[Q] age & trial limit for 2011 civil service exam of UPSC

Q. This is jai a regular follower of ur blog and appreciate ur effort . can u plz tell me how UPSC calculate the age of candidate …..My DOB is 11-08-1983 so upto which year i can appear in exam.

Ans. your age is calculated on 1st august of the given year.

i.e. suppose you’re general category then age limit for you is 21-30.
And for 2011′s exam your age on 1st August-2011, will be calculated.

(a) A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2011, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1981 and not later than 1st August, 1990.

I think, You can give 3 trials from 2011,12,13 if you’re in general category.

for SC/ST/OBC /Handicap etc, there are relaxation in age limit, check the official notification for it.

    for Age limit read this

Regarding your second question : Medical science has syllabus of MBBS and not pharmacy. Hence its not recommend for a non-MBBS student.

Hello, nice site you've got here. Since you're answering questions on the age requirements for UPSC prelims, I've got one too.

Is a candidate born in September 2011 eligible for the June 2011 UPSC preliminary exam?
I'm really confused, the internet tells me yes, but commonsense says no because I'll still be only 20 in June 2011.

  • akshay

    Greetings Mr.mrunal,

I am Akshay. Born in june 1991. I wish to join ias coaching centre to write upsc exam in 2012. I have read the upsc application form issued in feb 2011 which states that A candidate must have attained the
age of 21 years and must not have attained
the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2011,
i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier
than 2nd August, 1981 and not later
    than 1st August, 1990.

My question is that, when i sit for upsc 2012 prelims in may/june, I may/maynot be 21yrs completed whereas the eligibility criteria says that I am eligible for exam in 2012.

Kindly tell whether I am eligible to write the upsc 2012 or I have to wait till 2013?? I was born on 03-06-1991

Kindly solve my doubt regarding age limit. My dob is 14/10/1984. My first prelims try was in 2010, which i could'nt clear. I did not sit for 2011 prelims and plan to skip 2012 too. My second attempt will only be in 2013. If so, will i be able to give my third attempt in 2014 and my final attempt in 2015 because on 1st August 2014 i would still not have attained age 30.
