[Statistics for GS] How to draw Cumulative Fr.Graph and Find median (Youtube)

This question was asked in 2011′s GS (Mains) Paper II.

Draw an ogive for the following distribution.
Read the median from the graph.
How many students get between 60 and 72?

Marks	No. of Students
50-55	6
55-60	10
60-65	22
65-70	30
70-75	16
75-80	12
80-100	15

thanks for explanation. i face problem in deciding on interval while drawing graph. in this problem if we take 5 marks per cm as you suggested, it would require 24-25 cm height graph sheet. but an ordinary graph sheet has only 20 blocks. is there a quick method to decide the interval for x and y axis?

INTERVAL OF 10 IN Y AXIS WOULD HAVE SUFFICED.

1. u cant break values on any axis as u did on Y.
2. u must draw a zigzag if you are starting values other then zero. Here this zigzag will start from (0,0) till (0.5, 0). Afterwards values starting from 50 is okay.
3. Still a gud job done :)

I know, but drew the graph for explaining the concept only and got tired writing 5-120 the board.

the line for 72 should meet the cumulative frequency for lesser than…..only then it will give values for people lesser than 72….and then subtract to get the number of students within that range 60 to 72…..
