Prologue

  • As far as English, Maths and reasoning goes, the studyplan remains similar to PO/MT-with minor difference.
  • This article only contains the professional knowledge (IT) section MCQs from 2012 and 2013’s exam i.e. SPL-I and SPL-II respectively. It should help you gauge the width and depth of IT professional knowledge section syllabus, so you can prepare accordingly from your college books/GATE books/ Web resources. Avoid jholachhap publications giving “readymade” guidebooks, they didn’t help in provident fund commissioner exam (APFC), they will not help in specialist officer.
  • If any of the maestro, senior player, good samaritan wants to share some wisdom on preparation of this “professional section (IT)” please post comment below.

IBPS Specialist IT Officer Previous Paper 2012

Important: A specialist IT officer has to face four sections: Reasoning, English, Maths and Professional knowledge (IT). Following contains only the MCQs from Professional Section (total 50). Remaining sections to be uploaded soon.

What topics to prepare: Syllabus for IT section?

  • Official notification doesn’t mention full syllabus for the IT topics. Hence leads to confusion especially since candidates from parallel graduation streams are permitted: electronics, communication, and IT.
  • As a result, market is also flooded with variety of books for the IT topics- to quickly mint money from this confusion and uncertainty. (Same thing happens in APFC labour commissioner, FCI and so on).
  • overall these readymade books deal with following topics:
    1. basics of hardware software and operating system
    2. I/O system, microprocessors, circuits
    3. SQL, database management, data mining
    4. Communication, networking, security.
    5. Business-GK related social networking sites, smartphones, iPhone etc.
  • Common sense suggests that you’re better off going through your college text books / GATE guidebooks from reputed authors, rather than putting your future in such randomly copy pasted 200-250 pages. After all those 50 MCQs are worth 75 marks.
  • As per IBPS official notification, DOEAAC “B” certificate is also valid for IT officer post. This DOEACC Society is under HRD ministry and its “B” certificate is professionally equivalent to MCA Degree course. So, you can use its syllabus as the ‘common ground’, and do selective study accordingly from your college books.

Syllabus link: http://www.nielit.in/pdf/syllabus_b.pdf (Even contains Mock MCQs)
Compare the topics given in it with above MCQs and do selective study accordingly.
