Booker Prize 2014 for Fiction

  • Australia’s Richard Flanagan wins Man Booker prize 2014.
  • His novel: The Narrow Road to the Deep North
  • His father was a Japanese prisoner of war. He worked on the  Thailand-Burma ‘Death’ Railway. Novel’s revolves around similar plot.
  • Novel title named after a travelogue of Japanese Haiku poet “Bako”.
  • Indian entry to didnot win:The Lives of Others by Neel Mukherjee .

  • Booker has decided to accept entries of American authors as well.
  • Hence authors from common wealth nations are angry. Because they can’t compete in America’s Pulitzer prize.
