Economy : All Articles written by Mrunal Patel

List of All Economy Articles written by me, useful for various competitive exams, UPSC, GPSC, UPPSC, KPSC, TNPSC, MPPSC, and for interview and group discussion stage of IBPS (Bank PO and Clerk / CWE), CAT, CMAT and other MBA admission Tests.

If someone is totally new, I suggest you start reading from bottom to top.

Recommended Books for preparing Economy

  1. NIOS (National Open School) study material for Economy (can be downloaded for free by clicking ME)
  2. And NCERT text books. Without going going into all formulas, minute-concepts, just read them atleast once. (They can be legally downloaded for free by clicking following links)
  3. and finally,Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh (TMH Publication)

E $

  1. Out of all the books on economy, that’re in market right now,  Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh (Tata Macgrawhill Publication),is the best in my opinion. Because
    • It gives comprehensive coverage of all the important topics of Indian Economy from exam point of view- without getting into numbers and dates.
    • Whether you’re preparing for UPSC, State PSC or Bank/MBA interviews, it’ll be of great help to you.
  2. And then just keep reading either Indian Express or The Hindu on daily basis (How to read Newspaper for exam? That is covered in a separate article CLICK ME)
  3. and subscribe (Free) to my website by clicking me.

NOT Recommended Books: Mishra Puri, Dutt Sundaram, Uma Kapila. Because they’re written from academic point of view, we only need some basic and essential concepts from “Exam point of view”. Similarly I donot recommend Pratiyogita Darpan’s “Special” book on Indian Economy for its obsession with numbers and other trivial information.

Sir, you are something else. The way you put your efforts behind this site, highlights your diligence behind any work that you do. For us aspirants, this site has become the mai-baap, and I am not kidding. We all flock to this site in terms of any ‘misunderstanding’ with any topic. In the present day, when nobody looks beyond the financial aspect of labour, we come across this only odd place, where we know we will get our doubts cleared, free of cost.
    Thanks a million.

  • Anmol

    Hey Mrunal,
Am a current engineering student. I read your posts regarding preparing for economics and your referral of Ramesh Singh. Thing is am aware of all economic terms but not fully conversed. Like I know CRR, Inflation, Banking system and all out of daily use in news and all but then am not very good with the details.
Since am now starting for CSAT 2014, I would like to ask whether the knowledge of these terms is required or what else? And in any case, which are the topics to be read from Ramesh Singh?
    Thanks in advance.

    • The expertise over economy, international relations and current affairs, will come with time. Don’t worry, just stick to daily reading habit.

      • Anmol

I think you got me wrong with that. What I asked was-
        a) Topics to study from Ramesh Singh?
        b) Pattern of questions asked in CSAT, whether based on definitions (with which am good) or details (for which am asking topics of Ramesh Singh) or on something else like definitions applied to Indian context or maybe anything like that?

    • CA. AMIT LATH

      Shashi,
The word most favoured nation is confusing. this terminolgy basically means treating equal to all the nation say u charge 15% custom duty on a good imported from US . then you have to charge 15% only from other MFN countries .If u charge more than that to say pak, then pak willsay u are not giving me MFN status but the US on the other hand say we charge 14% from pak US will start shouting …..

  • debdeep

    Sir,
Recently RBI has slashed CRR without making any changes to the repo rate.
If liquidity of money was the primary goal, then why did RBI not change the Repo rate instead?

What are the major difference in consequences in changing Repo rate and CRR?

  • dhimman

Sir as i got from The Hindu that CRR is very crucial as it has Regulatory, monetary effects and also check Liquidity …….Sir plz can you explain how (as Repo and Reverse Repo also perform the same task …..) CRR is so Important for RBI besides having Repo and reverse Repo…….
