Introduction
Q. Tell us something about yourself, your family, when and why did you enter in this field of competitive exams?
I am born and brought up in Gorakhpur, hold a master’s degree in Microbiology. I have 2 siblings, My father has served the IAF and my mother is a homemaker. I was always fascinated by the idea of representing India on the world platform, it’s the ultimate privilege for me. I always thought of appearing for the CSE but it was only after getting my MSc degree (2011) it became obvious that I was never too interested in pursuing research as a career and hence it was my time to chase my dream. I was lucky enough to seek initial guidance from a friend (now senior) who happened to qualify in the same year.
Electronic Vs Paper material
Q. In recent times, there is spur in electronic material- blogs, sites, pdfs, RSS-feeds. Many aspirants feel bogged down by this information overload. So, how much do you rely on electronic material and how much on the paper material (Books, newspapers)? If possible narrate a typical day in your studylife. What is your style of preparation (e.g. I continue making notes no matter what I’m reading, I just read multiple times but don’t maintain notes, I make mindmaps on computer …or xyz style)
I have a habit of reading online for quite some time now, though m a firm believer that ebooks cant replace the actual ones still I find it easier to search and read e-material. So, the answer is YES, my whole preparation revolved around the internet.
- I used to visit blogs like Mrunal.org, gktoday.in, halfmatnr.com (for ethics case study).
- Maintained account on Evernote (to maintain my notes, I would just read and save links in respective notebooks. Ease of access makes it a good source to revise) and Feedly ( RSS feeds from various sources – AIR news spotlight, newspaper editorials, IDSA, Mrunal, CFR, The Diplomat, PIB etc . used to read from here then save good articles in evernote to revise).
- I subscribed to few youtube channels and made rough notes while watching these:
- for MAINS: CEC UGC (for Sociology videos and few on Indian art, architecture, history, ethics
- for the INTERVIEW: Rajya Sabha TV (for India’s World, Law of the land, the big picture) , Indian Diplomacy by MEA
- I have relied more on the internet than the books. But I don’t promote this way, everyone should choose according to their convenience.
- I tried covering The Hindu thoroughly, would save the articles in evernote for revision.
A typical day would begin with reading the newspaper, saving articles, reading the topic at hand 2-3 hrs GS, same for the optional, checking feeds for updates, practicing answer writing for 1-2 questions, watching videos of interest.
Tempo and style
Q. People know what books and syllabus points are to be prepared. But most of them lack consistency in their preparation. So, how do you keep study momentum going on? How do you fight against the mood swings and distractions?
I had my share of ups and downs, there were days of no study too, but I promised myself to atleast complete the newspaper daily because it’s one thing that troubles the most in backlog. To keep the sources minimal I stuck with materials that kept my interest going, for instance – watching videos, reading a less formal article on the internet instead of reading same thing from a book, as long as I could solve a question, it was enough.
It’s also very imp to know your strength and weaknesses- I can understand things really well but have problem remembering the basics and facts at times, so to resolve this I used to read things from various sources to get a better understanding, then write down things to remember on flash cards (for eg – census figures, economic datas, acts, bills, schemes etc )
I tried to avoid distractions as much as possible, but when encountered with…. used to take few time off, clear the thought, watch LBSNAA FC videos (to remind myself of the goal) and move on.
Struggle of a Senior player
After 1-2 failures in any competitive exam, a phase of mental saturation comes. The person knows the booklist, he knows what is necessary to succeed. But it doesn’t yield result. The armchair ‘experts’ would point out UPSC is ‘testing’ emotional intelligence of the candidate or UPSC wants to break the backs of senior players, daily conspiracy theories on orkut….…Not to mention all the emotional struggle-against those irritating neighbors and relatives…MY question are two:
Q1. How did you survive through this mental prison and what’re your words of wisdom to other senior players? If any specific inspirational incident(s), please share.
I qualified in my 2nd attempt, was too sure in the 1st one (without much preparation), it was shocking and heartbreaking, but thankfully my friends and family came to my rescue and made me realize that my preparation was not enough to make it too the list in that year, there were more deserving candidates than me. Also that results came out on 3rd of May and Pre on 25th I hardly had any time to grief upon, time heals everything.
Q2. What went wrong in your previous attempt? What changes did you make in this current attempt?
Lack of revision and answer writing practice for the mains, I couldn’t even complete the syllabus. Even the interview score was not that good because I was quite nervous.
In my current attempt I tried to
- complete the whole syllabus,
- enrolled in a test series for answer writing,
- practiced 5-6 essays.
All this helped me gain confidence.

Mains answer-writing?
Q. How was your experience with the ‘fixed space’ answer sheet?
I focused on completing the answer, wrote mostly in point format, couldn’t fill the complete space provided answer for any question.
Q. Did you write answers in bullet points or in paragraphs? Some players (who cleared mains and got interview call letter) were claiming that they wrote entire paper in bullet points, so it doesn’t matter….whether examiner is asking ‘examine, comment, discuss or xyz’….simply write in bullets and points.
Mainly bullet points, depending on the question. If its descriptive, 5-6 line introduction followed by points and conclude with a small paragraph.
Q. Did you follow the “introduction-body-conclusion” format? because some mains-qualified candidates claim they simply wrote the points they could recall within the time, instead of bothering with proper introduction and conclusion.
I had no 1 best method, it basically depended on the question asked.
Q. In GS papers, Since UPSC came with those 100 and 200 words questions. What was your approach in the exam (I wrote all, I only focused on the questions where I could answer perfectly, I just not to high quality points to reach the word limit etc.) Because the UPSC aspirant Community is divided over what counts as a ‘good’ paper. Some experts claim you should attempt all- even if it involves “making up” an answer with filler lines, some claim attempt only those questions you know perfectly. Where do you stand on this? [Based on your experience and of your seniors/buddies]
I attempted all the question because my main aim was to complete the paper, for the questions I wasn’t too sure about wrote limited content mainly in point format.
Q. How many marks worth questions did you skip/couldn’t finish in the GS papers?
GS (Mains paper) | Couldn’t finish __ marks |
GS1 | complete |
GS2 | complete |
GS3 | Left the abbreviation one |
GS4 | complete |
Q5. Did you use highlighters / sketchpens in your answers?
2 pens : black n blue
Q6. Did you draw any diagram in any paper? (e.g. in GS1 Geography)
Yes, small charts and diagrams
Q7. If yes, Did you draw diagrams with pencil or pen?
Pen
Q8. Did you use ruler to draw the lines in diagram? Or did you just make it by hand?
no
Q9. You wrote the answer in blue pen or black pen?
Mainly blue
(Mrunal – since readers keep mailing such queries, therefore I’m asking the topper to clear all the air haha.)
Mains Optional Subject
Q. Booklist and How much of internet-research / current affairs is necessary for this optional? OR can one simply rely on the books and be done with this subject?
Internet was my main source of preparation
Q. How many months did it take to finish the core optional syllabus?
I was preparing both together so can’t say exactly, 3 n ½ months should be fine.
Q. How many days/ weeks before the exam, you started answer writing practice?
Just after the prelims I began preparation of this subject.
Q. Do you maintain self-notes for revision of optional? In which format- electronic or paper?
Mostly electronic and few loose papers with scribbled notes
Q.How much did you skip OR couldn’t answer properly, in the optional paper?
optional paper | Couldn’t finish __ mark. + comments on any weird questions |
Paper I | complete |
paper II | complete |

I had two months’ time (interview was on 3rd June). Collected all the possible questions from various books and interview transcripts, tried penning down all the answers and also practiced them in front of a camera recorder.
Q2. Did you attend any mock interviews by coaching classes? How were they similar / different than official interview? Do you believe it is necessary to attend such mock interviews?
2 mocks at vajiram and ravi, mocks give a simulation.
Q3. What did you wear? Some experts say coat is must, some say tie is must, and some say black shoes must. What attire did you pick up?
Light colored cotton suit

Career Backup
Q1. If you were not selected, what was your career backup plan?
Nothing as such
Views on UPSC reforms
What are your views on following issues?
Q. Optional subjects should be removed altogether. The present stalemate is helping no-one, except coaching-owners, book publishers.
Yes
Q. Despite what UPSC has done in recent years, it has failed to curb the nuisance of Delhi’s coaching factories. In fact it’s increased under the new syllabus in 2013. Let’s face it, most candidates who gave Mains-2013 have relied on (authentic OR Xeroxed) coaching notes because there was hardly any time left to prepare so many topics in such short time. This system work against an individual preparing from far-away area, without any financial resources, high-speed internet or contacts in Delhi.
True
Q. UPSC should disclose official prelim answerkey and cutoffs, immediately after prelim is over, instead of postponing it till interview phase is over.
Agree
Q. UPSC should be conducted online like IBPS and CAT exam to shorten the duration of exam.
Might create difficulty for people from rural areas
Insecurity about profile
Q. Many candidates prepare sincerely but constantly live under fear about ‘profile insecurity’. I’m not from a big college, I’m not from English medium, and I don’t have work-experience. What if they ask some stressful questions in the interview about this? Did you suffer from such insecurities? What is your message to these candidates?
Thankfully I didn’t suffer much and I personally don’t consider profile is too imp as long as you know your content.
Wisdom
Q. Through this struggle and success, what have your learned? What is the wisdom of life and competition? What is Your message to the new aspirants?
Focus on planned study, as variety to your sources. Have faith in yourself and constantly find your weaknesses and try resolving them.
Credit: Friends/family
Q. Behind every topper are many people who stood by during those uncertain times when he/she was merely an ‘aspirant’. Would you like to tell the world, who were those people in your case? Any specific incidence that you would like to share with the readers?
God, family (My Brother- Anurag who stood by me in every thick and thin) , my lovely friends – have few but all of them are gems, owe quite a lot to them, teachers: it was because of their faith in me that gave me confidence.
BOGUS Marketing Propaganda
Q. You are well aware of the sacred rule – the last question must be about self-marketing. So, Did you use Mrunal.org for your preparation and if yes, how did it help you? And you can even reply “No”. I’ll still publish your answer without tempering.
I regularly visited your website for updates, it was an integral part of my preparation. I am thankful for your guidance, keep the good work going.
sir result kab tak aayega…….?……..any idea……kisii ko bhi kuch ho to batooooo

Ccs is civil services chronicle magazine
Congrats mam on this huge success. You have scored very good marks in sociology. Kindly share your strategy . If possible do provide us your notes also. Thank You mrunal….
@/mrunal and Neha madam: your interview question were really easy. I have found that upsc always asked analysis based questions and not these objective type…
how could that be possible.
Was thinking the same, most probably it seems the board members got increment in salary or had real good food to eat before she walked through the door .
I was the last person to go that day, they spent least time interviewing me , so from where I look they jus wanted to get over with the interview.
Aapne kaha ni ? Sir mujhey b drop kar dena agar abhi nikal rahe ho to :P
dude pls behave decently. dont forget she is now an IAS… dont talk in an insultive manner just because you are anonymous here.
its inspiring……thanks to mrunal.org and neha mam ….wising her a succesful diplomatic career….
Only if she had been a general quota student, she wouldn’t have even QUALIFIED for mains. This is not a fair play game. Shame on such a system that gives losers who can’t score even 40% marks in mains examination a chance to write the papers and eliminates the deserving candidates just because they were borne in a ‘upper caste’.
@calvin
I absolutely agree with you buddy..i got 234 in the same prelim and did not qualify for mains..in 2012 i got 202 and again lost out there also as open cut off was 209..this bloody reservation system stinks and the problem is that we cannot do anything about it..the only thing we can do is just comment on such blogs to vent out our frustration..today if you are born in open category you just cannot afford to be an ordinary or normal guy..you have to be extra ordinary or supernaturally gifted..while on the other side MOST candidates belonging to reserved categories who have all the resources to compete who have had a decent life uptill now with good schooling and college education born and brought up in metro or tier 1/2 cities having 3G internet connection on their desktops /laptops /iphone5 etc to comment and criticize this comment of mine on mrunal and some of whom have parents already working as class 1 or class 2 employees in government have the PRIVILEGE of reservation..its like providing walking sticks to a person like usian bolt!!..actually the real persons to blame are our forefathers who lived in around 500BC-1947 AD and who SUPPOSEDLY have unleashed terror and inflicted severe pain and disability on some of our other forefathers..so now for the coming 2000 years the reverse process has to go on to level the scores..unfortunately we are born in this era..it would have been better if we would have been born 2000 years earlier or later…so in short the only solution is raise your standard to your max and if you thnk that is not good enough better pursue a career in pvt sector or look for a job abroad where merit is much appreciated.
providing walking sticks to usain bolt ? What has sticks got to do with bolt ? An epic wrong example, as instead of helping sticks might hamper his speed . next time apply more brain power while coming out with your creative example.
@caligula
firstly i meant enabling a person to walk (with the help of walking sticks) inspite of the fact that he can run like bolt.
secondly u are talking about her mains score of 338 whereas our argument is over the prelim score where she would have not qualified in the first place with a score of 235 to go into mains
think u should apply more brains and a little creativity before commenting
Hah! Dusre attempt mein b fail
yaha reservation ka raag alapne se qualify kar loge??50% seats are there for you..get through them.I m a general candidate n seriously i hate sadists.
Open category candidates can do one thing..if they get selected and become IAS (or in future may be renowned politician)..than they must remember their struggling days..struggle because of reservation..struggle because of corrupted and selfish politician..who looks their benefit in giving caste based reservation rather than providing a genuine socioeconomic based reservation..AND you can do one more thing sign a petition on change.org in favor of giving reservation to needy people without giving priority to caste and if you get more than thousand people signed your petition you can file a PIL in HC to review (that they have forgotten to review at every 10th year) this reservation system..hope one day India will become safe place for talent
You better know why you failed , Look for positives and stop blaming others for your failure. The very system you are trying to be part of and failed twice (that too just at entry level,, that sucks man !!! ) , is the proponent of reservation system. so if you are so against reservation , may be this system does not have a place for you as is evident from your two failed attempt.
Gaurav aggarwal ? bhai , seriously sorry mujhey apna point strong bnane k liye aapko beech mein lana parra aur aapka yaha aana hua
AGGARWAL JI SE SOORRY MANGNE KI KOI JAROOT HAI…………… FIRST RANKER SPEAKING LIKE BHANGI………..
HE HIMESELF CAME FOR JOB SECURITY HERE …… LET ALONE FALSE PROPOGANDA OF SERVING NATION ……..
WHICH HE REMEMBERED AT AGE OF 29………..
Mr. Calvin incase u haven’t notice she secured better marks than most of the students in general category so don’t reduce this forum for airing your stupid anachronistic casteist mindset.people like u can never look beyond caste of a person. There is a lot you can learn from her.People like u will never succed in life because you will blame one thing or the other for your failure. If you are so peeved by reservation policy why don’t you speak against caste system eliminate it and any social inequality will disappear and so will reservation
Roman saini (4th highest GS marks in country) – 364 / 1000 i.e not even 40 % . Gaurav Aggarwal – 338 / 1000 i.e way below your criteria of 40 % . Now with open eyes read her GS score ; 348 in total . i.e 10 more marks than 1st ranker . Go and dump your ass somewhere else .
caligula you didn’t get the point. What they are saying that if she would have been UR she wouldn’t have been able to sit for mains examination. There is no doubt that she has scored quite well in mains but the thing is and this is not to belittle her hard work, there are several deserving UR candidates as well who couldn’t even qualify prelims. Even i have a friend who belong to OBC but has given exam from UR category as he is from IIT he rightly believe let the real disadvantaged candidates utilise it. He got around 134 rank but being UR couldn’t get IAS.
And we all know that the people who actually require it are not benefiting from it.
Hi sks, I answered particularly to the the 40% marks issue she/he raised.
There is no point talking of reservation and venting your frustration. How about OBC students venting against SC/ST, and likewise SC/ST against PH candidates, for the cut-off is less. This can’t be a forum to debate on reservation, and also it is a waste of time. Rather put all your strengths and work harder for the goal. All the best and Good Luck.
Don’t post such negative comments to embarrass her. It’s not just you alone who lost in the first phase,I know many brilliant people who scored 238 and fell short of 1-2 marks.
Point is compete with yourself as reservation.
Brother, Tumse naa ho paayega!!!
CALVIN BHAI I AGREE WITH YOU…………… BHAI THIS 40 % POINT IS NOT JUSTIFIED ……. BUT VAISE YOU ARE CORRECT………… SOME RESERVATION BHAKTS ARE THERE BUT WHY
1) EITHER THEY THEMSELVES UNDER RESERVATION
OR
2) HAILING FROM INFLUENTIAL FAMILY
OR
3)HAVE GOT SUCCESS IN LOLLY POP ATTEMPT LIKE 2013 MAINS
OR
4) IN CONTACT WITH AND IN POSSESSION WITH GOOD COACHING MATERIAL( SO NOW THEY ARE PREACHING BCS THEY ARE SURE ABOUT THERE OWN CHANCES)
OR
5) TOO AFRAID TO ACCEPT THIS FLAW IN SYSTEM( SOME INSTRCTIONS FROM PARENTS ETC)
OR
6) SPOUSE OR GIRL FRIEND BELONGING TO RESERVED CATEGORY.
OR
7)STILL NEW TO THIS UPSC GAME STILL NOT FACED HEAT OF THIS RESERVATION DRAGON
OR
8)HE / SHE IS TOO SMART AND PRATICING MAINS / INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
OR
9) WANT TO GET SOME POLITICAL MILEAGE ( AS OUR BELOVED NETAS DO DESPITE KNOWING FLAWS AND DESPITE BEING FROM UNRESERVED CATEGORY)
OR
10) NEWLY SELECTED INTO SERVICES AND THEY ARE REPLETE WITH NEW JOSH, VIGOUR, OVER SINCERITY ETC ETC.
OR
11) AT MRUNAL BLOG MANY RESERVED CATEGORY FRIENDS ARE ALSO ACTIVE….. SO TO AVOID THERE WRATH AND MISUNDERSTANDING….. THEY ARE POSING AS DUBIOUS BHAKTS.
BUT ONE WHO IS FROM HUMBLE BACKGROUND, BUT GENERAL , NOT ENOUGH CONTACTS AT DELHI , FATHER NOT WORKING AT CENTRAL SECRETARIAT, KNOWS REAL SITUATION
WILL ACCEPT THE FLAW ( PROVIDED HE / SHE NOT BEING INSTRUCTED BY MATA JI/ PITAJI TO BLURT OUT ABOUT SENSITIVE ISSUE AT PUBLIC PLACE)
And How you define yourself?
And how do you define yourself?
And how do you define yourself?
have patience …… final result is well displayed with name on UPSC website !!!!! wen one doesn’t have answers one often question others credentials !!! can u take the challenge of writing UPSC without taking benefit of reservation ??
Like you are not giving your roll number to check your marks and questioning reservation ?? :D seriously funny!! :P I am already taking exam without reservation and also without questioning others or system. Dude get some brain and focus your energy on exam. If you really feel about all these issues more than the exam then raise your voice at the right place and appeal to the right people. Dont choose easy way out of posting here and demeaning the efforts of Mrunal Sir or Neha.
Signing off!! Bhagwan tumhari aatma ko shanti de:D
for me UPSC exams r a means to an end and not the end itself like u …..u haven’t answered any of the points raised by me …and r attempting to shift the goal post itself by insisting on a singular thing …. i havn’t ever claimed that i will be the next superman …. nd yes please tell me the right place to raise the issue … i have never demeaned the efforts of mrunal … he is doing an excellent job …. regarding neha yes i will always say that she owes her success to reservation(clearing the first stage) and then her hard work …. there are many neha’s who could not write mains last year in spite of having scores like 240,239,238 etc(and not necessarily they all belonged to likes of tata and ambani )…… and that’s not at all funny !!!! i see no merit in arguing with people like u any further …… so GUD LUCK and enjoy CASTOCRACY !!!!!!!!
Mrunal….. there is an urgent necessity….. dont let comments be posted directly. Those who want to
comment let them get registered with a profile…..with a facility of banning it permanently.
few people here are commenting what ever they want with out respect… guys get a life.
you clear civil services and then comment….or give your bio data and then comment. lets see how courageous u are…..
” lets see how courageous u are “.. madam u should not have written that ……
Courage status of SC,ST(the elite among them) ..
1. in spite of guardian being class 1 officer they claim reserved status ,wards of IAS , IAP , IFS , IRS claiming sc,st reservation without any shame …and thereby denying the real needy among the sc,st a chance to improve their economic and societal status !!! is this the concept of like to be treated alike, is this social justice ?? …… ANSWER me if u support creamy layer criteria among the sc,st ???
Courage status of OBC (the elite among them)….
1.Creamy layer set at 6 lakh ….wen the govt says that the nearly 37% of population lives on less than 100 rupees daily (govt figure is much lower !!! ) .
2.Most show creamy layer status only wen they r compelled to becz of their guardians being govt servants and income cannot be hidden ….for non govt employees ,businessmen getting a false income certificate is certainly not difficult in our country ..which saves them from being counted in creamy layer .
3.Agricultural income is not counted to measure creamy layer status …resulting in many OBC from UP,HARYANA,DELHI being outside creamy layer in spite of being awarded crores in land compensation by govt !!!!
4.In spite of OBC list being very big the chunk of reservation benefit is taken by students from a handful of caste only because of being relativity more advanced than fellow obc ..check for YADAV title in any OBC list or MEENA in any sc,st list !!!!! can u dispute that ?????
5.Once an OBC gets reservation benefit in class A job ,his next generation is excluded from reservation benefit …….but the further generation r once again allowed to claim OBC status !!!! whereas u r in GENERAL category for perpetuity !!!!!!!
Some other aspects ….
Number of seats in LS are fixed on the basis of 1971 census …..with a aim not to adversely affect the southern states from being at disadvantage because of being more successful in controlling birth rate than their northern counterpart….very gud logic and everyone should support it
Now consider this ………..
Number of reserved seats in LS for SC,ST before 2008 delimitation SC=79 , ST=41 TOTAL=120
Number of reserved seats in LS for SC,ST after 2008 delimitation SC=84,ST=47 TOTAL =131 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is this fair ….on one hand u r promoting population control measure to be uniform throughout the country and on the other hand u r awarding certain section of society who have lagged behind in population control(though not deliberate) measure by making them politically more strong …………..?????????? any comment on this ?????
No one in against the reservation system but if the ideology behind the same is not implemented in both letter and spirit then the problem arises ….reservation for all category should be better targeted so that it really achieves its purpose of societal integration and the demon of caste based discrimination could be completely wiped out ….. but sadly wat we r witnessing is an attempt to reverse the caste hierarchy in the name of social justice and mere jugglery of words ……..
MAY BETTER SENSE PREVAIL
You are funny :P it seems you are sure that you will not get through prelims, that’s why wasting this much time here. As spirit breaker told you to be courageous, why don’t you Just share your roll number so that we would come to know if you could clear even cut off of any of the categories :D
Completely agree with u…All the points u raised r convincing..i have seen ppl claiming reservation benefits even if their parents are at very high posts..they drive expensive cars..and while debating on reservation policy they claim it to be their right becoz of all the injustice that has been done to their ancestors…And moreover concept of 27% reservation for OBC is misleading..I have seen the data of many PSUs …OBC candidates selected r between (40 – 50)%..and general candidates between (30-35)%…This is not in accordance with the proportional representation which has been claimed as the greatest benefit of Reservation…The policy which was started in good faith has become evil..But I agree with many here that this is not the right place to discuss about that all..the only result would be waste of time and energy…
THEN POST YOUR BIO-DATA….. I AM GENERAL CATEGORY FOR YOUR KIND INFO. Possibly you have a feeling that everybody has reservation except you. now i don wana talk too much. Quickly post your entire bio data and then start commenting on others aukaat. Merit list mey dek ke pata chalega baadmey tum hi ho.,…. and we will be proud to accept our defeat….. aja post karo beta….pehle prelims ke result to aana hai…we all members will post your result here itself cos upsc server will be busy you see. jaldi post karo ….. bio data wit roll number. you will also reduce mrunals work load of collecting your bio data “after” your name is published in merit list…… :) … best of luck buddy.
Gr8! Highly candid thoughts. You have hit the nail on the head and shown a mirror to the pseudo-crusaders of the so-called ‘Social Justice’.
she is obc and m seeing lot of obc guys supporting her, they are the same people who abuse sc for getting 5 marks lesser than them.now they are abused for getting 5 marks lesser than general. why v forget when abusing other social group.i could have commented on her reservation but i will support her spirit.nowadays obc r behaving more on casteist ways than generals do.jats got reservation by blocking the way and trains but nobody whined for their this beg. so the solution is either abuse every type of reservation b it b PH or none.later one is best option.becoze getting 8 10 marks lesser dosnt make one incompetent.thanx
neha mam kindly provide us ur strategy regarding sociology as optional and booklist….plzzz as i m newto this subject…..i hav completed my grads with electrical engg….and is willing to go for socio as optional…..
G.S. teacher at synergy coaching class told result out on 7th oct .lets c whn it comes??
Firstly, congratulation ma’am for your success. After Gaurav agrawal sir, i find your article, which give importance to internet sources.
Thanx for sharing new sources for aspirants like me.
Neha could u please elaborate on the sources u reffered for sociology optional?
Congratulations on ur success Neha!!
Just a small query…y didn’t u go for Anthro as optional since u have a background in Biology…any special reason apart from interest factor?? And to what extent did u find classroom coaching essential ..in GS as well as Optional?
I am confused between Anthro and Socio….plz guide!
Go for anthropology dude, it’s way more variegated than socio and very scoring too. Only if you have graduated from socio, then should you choose socio. Only problem in anthro is huge number of miscellaneous topics. These are very shallow, sometimes one topic can be covered in only half or one page. And you will need to search internet for miscellaneous topics and make your own notes. If you have ever read biology, you can score 220-230 easily by one time study of 3-3.5 months. I myself scored 194 in 2013 without any serious preparation, way more than even I expected. I myself had never read biology.
Hi Neha,
Congratulations on your hard-earned and well-deserved success :) Best wishes for future.
well done neha…..congrtttt!!!!!!
Congrats for your great success! I think we shared our Mains centre. If I remember correctly, you were the one to wish “All the best everyone” in the Socio paper. I was pleasantly surprised to see the generosity and etiquettes.
I missed by a narrow margin. It seems that you have got the highest or close to highest marks in Socio paper I. I could get 94 (though I was unwell and could not attempt 2 questions worth a total of 25 marks). It would be of immense help to us if you could share your strategy for both the Socio papers.
Thanks in advance!
All the best for serving the nation as a diplomat.
neha madam/anyone else– please tell when writing an essay do we also write headings before each paragraph/group of paragraphs devoted to same subject matter.

mere bhai mrunal ji se achcha guide koi nahi kar payega
hey ……. guys those against reservation and those for it. every one knows that reservation should be eliminated. I am from general category i just wanna say to all general category one thing DON’T CRY ON CATEGORY ; its sheer talent and hard work one will get in IAS and that person will be standing with pride. we might fail but don’t worry success just gets delayed and not deleted because only difference between success and failure is faith, attitude forgiveness both to receive and to forgive and not some stupid cut-offs shit. And people like @caligula your way of speaking determine that u have more faith in your Category than you have in you. And your language indicate ( as u used offensive terms while chatting ) u need to learn manners and LBSNAA is a ecology of good minds and fishes like you create interventions through ur sick mentality. Learn to behave when you are in company of IAS aspirants don’t show ur certificate every where
Listen you popcorn, i don’t need to mention to you upon whom my faith relies . I am thankful to myself for not being so much obsessed with lbsnaa , and living a ‘pretend ias’ life while carrying bag full of needless advises . Stick them to yourself, and don’t buzz until someone ask it for. ahaha, your comment shows you visualize lbsnaa every night and roam inside it with a big smile on face, acute schizophrenia .
