🗞️ Current Affairs Terms in News 12–13 April-2024 for UPSC – CDP-Suraksha, Maidan, Statue of Valour
- CDP-Suraksha: digital platform for instant release of farmers’ subsidy for horticulture crops, with the help of E-Rupee gift card/vouchers.
- Mt. Etna: largest volcano in Europe. It is in news because of the volcanic vortex rings coming out of it.
- Mohan-Babu: Election Commission mascot for Cooch Behar. It is a black soft-shell turtle.
- Consolidation of capital budget: Before 2024, the Defence Ministry would make 3 separate demands for grants: army, navy, Air Force. But in the interim budget 2024, they are combined so that each wing has more flexibility for the utilization of money.
- Zero Orbital Debris: ISRO’s PSLV/XPOSAT mission didn’t leave any garbage/kachra/debris in space. This was achieved with the help of the POEM Platform.
- Statue of Valour: 125 ft statue of Ahom General Lachit Borpukhan (1622–1672), in Jorhat, Assam. He is famous for defeating the Mughals in the Battle of Saraighat (1671).
- Maidam: Earthen Pyramid. Ahom General Lachit Borpukhan was buried in it.
- Syed Abdul Rahim: Indian football team coach in the 50s and 60s. Ajay Devgn’s Maidan movie is based on his life.
- Chef De Mission (CDM): the leader/chief admin-member of a country’s Olympic team. Ensures the welfare of the athletes and firefighting against controversies. Originally, boxer Mary Kom was appointed as CDM for Paris Olympics 2024, but later resigned.
- Candidates Tournament: Chess tournament being held in Toronto, Canada.
