Introduction
- The previous list of [PIN] Persons in News (2011-12) was given in separate article, click me (some names will overlap here).
- Now this new article, is for [PIN] 2012-13, mainly keeping the upcoming SBI-PO, SSC-CGL exams in mind. It contains list of PIN + Sports + Books + awards.
- This list is not exhaustive. This is just “minimum essential system requirement”, otherwise Government gave more than 6 dozen Padma Shris in 2012, but time is not a luxury we cannot afford right now.
- This is list is subject to revision (based on your additions via comments.)
Drawing the line
- As the exam date comes near, people start making more and more ambitious plans (like I’ll finish all Pratiyogita Darpan issues of last 2 years. I’ll cover all The Hindu newspapers of last 12 months from its website and so on…).
- But, Ambitious studyplans =often unrealistic studyplans= #EPICFAIL.
- So, when it comes to Persons in News (PIN), Sports, Books and Misc.GK , you’ve to draw a line somewhere otherwise book market is flooded with “current affairs” material worth 10000 pages (and more will come, as the March-April floods approach.).
- But beyond a point it starts giving “diminishing rate of return”.
- The “core” areas for GK/GS for the upcoming exams are following:
|
NCERT+NIOS+Laxmi+YearbookCurrent Affairs (Polity, Economics, Enb, Sci-Tech.) |
|
Static+Science+Crap (already explained in separate article. Click me) |
|
Economics (Current + theory) + International Affairs + Marketing + Computer. (elaborate plan coming soon). |

Mrunal, please comment on this
http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/NewDelhi/For-a-level-playing-field-PM-set-to-clear-UPSC-makeover-this-week/Article1-1017461.aspx
what this link simply says is that there is high chance for a remodelling of the mains exam pattern. But instead of removing the optionals, they have reduced its importance, and uplifted the importance of GS. thank you.
Yeah! This seems too much out of order. If they have to take out take out entire optionals or else leave it as such. I can’t even think about 1 optional because I am sure most of them would be choosing regional language and subjects like pali. If its really level-playing-field that is expected cut down all optionals. Make it common to all.

hello sir,
What is mean by Consolidate fund and Contingency fund?
contingency fund is maintained for emergencies and natural climalities and it is administered by president of india , Consolidate fund maintains govt exp and income and it is administered by govt of india
there is also a public account for govt of india…can someone explain its importance and what debits n credits from this acc?
public accounts means banks, post office,….(except private)
here people put their money for their saving.the money is here called/this area called public accounts.
union govt has the right to take money from consolidated fund with the approval of parliament.president maintained
contigency fund.(here you should know the important of finance secretary role.)
but govt DON’T have any right to take money from public accounts
