- Those who could not make it in the list: there is more to life than just one exam so, don’t be a Devdas, prepare for the next competition exam and or whatever other career backup plans that you have.
- 18th June 2013: from this day, successful candidates can download their Call Letter and Bio-data Format.
- 3rd July 2013: from this day, The Phase II (Group discussion and personal interview) will start.
Importance of GDPI?
As per notification,
- your written marks (out of 250) are converted to out of 75
- and marks secured in Group Discussion & Interview (out of 50 marks maximum) are converted to out of 25.
- The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and Group Discussion & Interview out of 100 for each category.
- =As we can see, Written weightage =3/4th and GDPI weightage is just 1/4th.
But ^that should not lead to any laziness on GDPI preparation because notification further says:
- The qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview will be as decided by the Bank.
- The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-I and Phase-II separately.

Mrunal sir,is there any information regarding selection ratio. coz they have selected 3077 candidates for 1500 vacancies but in advertisement they mentioned it would be 3 times against vacancies…please do clarify

dude…get a reality check…many ppl who r confident of getting 130+ are not in d final list…accept tht the cut off of this year is much much more than the previous year…
All these bank openings are totally hoax. They just have to show that they are giving the opportunity but in reality they already have the candidates whom they want to select. For this reason they do not declare any cut off list, do not show marks of all the candidates and only after the selection process they publish cut off list based on their selection which also cannot be said true.
Talk about sour grapes .. I personally know atleast 20 people who have cleared SBI PO, who did not have any connections .. I have cleared SBI PO without knowing anyone in the entire banking sector, and I completed all my formalities without problem. If you did not clear the exam it means that you need to work hard. Do not demotivate others.

i ve cleared and i couldnt remember specifics of no of attmpts made or how many were correct yaar!!in such papers u dnt ve time to count attmpts, and if u ve such time thn ur compromising on ur attmpts.
every time i take exam ,i count my num of attempts and each time i get it right.

I cannot tellscore accurately but I have attempted 173 [38 in DI and 45+ in remaining]. I guess I might have got around 140+
That’s a toppers score! Can you please tell us your strategy. It will help others in future PO exams atleast.
@vijay I have been following Mrunal sir’s strategies for all exams.. Practised quant from Arihant, for reasoning – no specific preparation but thorughly solved old papers.
How do you manage to attempt such exorbitant no. of questions buddy ???

Started with General awareness, then English, then Reasoning, DI at last… First two can be done very fast.. So I could manage
I started with reasoning then DI ..that’s where i think i made a grave mistake…. These were very time consuming sections …..Anyways was my FIRST PO exam….as they say you learn with every passing day….hope i can reverse the trend in my NEXT attempt…& again CONGRATS to you buddy..hope you make it to the FINAL CUT !!! :)

Gosh, dont know what might have been the cutoff.. after missinf APFC this is another shocker for me. What is the level of competition has been institutionalised now. Hatsoff to those who qualified. I was expecting 120+marks but had not very good performance in reasoning section. So, very curious about the probable reason of failure. I got selected in sbi PO rural when it was conducted in 2010. Didnt thought it will be this much hard to crack it this time.. sheer disappointment
Cut off in objective should be >130 with high reasoning sectional cut off….!! Overall cut off might be well above 160 this time….!!! Competition in SBI has gone up manifold this yr. !! Reason for such a high cut off could probably be coz lots of IIT’ans and IAS toppers have applied to SBI PO this yr. coupled with less no. of candidates called for GD/PI…..

& normal preparation strategy won’t see one through in SBI now…SPEED is the deciding factor and one have to have insane speed along with accuracy to qualify SBI from this yr. onwards….It has become very tough unless one has practiced 1000’s of practice papers…..!!

Are u insane or what? Why would IITians apply for petty SBI job! I am one from the fraternity and let me tell you there are plenty of opportunities available. Also any IITian would never be interested in the profile of a PO. The way we live there for 4/5 years, this kind of job would never suit our lifestyle or satisfy us. The career prospects are pretty darn dull.
Can u tell me u r from which IIT and what kind of job opportunities available outside (except for circuit branches)?.
that is right even sbi gave in its notification 2 or 3 yr back that out of 8000 clerks recruited 3000 were btech students

See if you really have the Aptitude the I would say go for the Analyst profile @ Accenture, WNS, MuSigma. These are good for starters, once you have got enough of experience on R, SAP and other platforms then you can easily get an overseas opportunity.
What I am doing is I do odd projects at Kaggle. So that if my pursuit of CS fails then I can easily switch to some overseas firm. Also, Kaggle can give you about 1-2 lac each quarter. And the same looks like a medal on your CV

even i know ppl from IIT’s and even CA’s competing for SBI PO xm, may not be interested afterall in joinin but they ve dfntly increased competition and with such profile ppl in GDPI i guess the standard for GD is gonna go way up, if at all these ppl come for GDPI, as i think many who r preparing for other higher level exams wouldnt turn up!! Infact i know a couple of them…………

2nd let me tell you about the life @ IITs(Now I am not talking about the current scenario which has been corrupted by uncontrolled/abated dilution of quality)
We used to be free in more ways than you can imagine. I used to flunk papers because I was busy watching movies or playing Age(Age of Empires – LAN Game) or just wasn’t in the mood. We are used to submit things at our own pace. Yes you can had loads of liberties back then. This liberties ensured free and radical development of mind. There were students busy in their Research work, others busy participating in international competitions(like ME), some busy with weed, others on lan games(again ME) and so on. You would rarely find a “Silencer” character from 3-idiots movie. There are 2 things for sure: a) 2-3 students will FAIL even if they score 80 in the paper(unless the prof intervenes). Well thats relative grading 101 for you. b) If you are @ IIT you will get a job!
And You could screw with teachers like you used to in school – why? Easy mostly Prof don’t take classes – Its TAs who do. I can go on and on.
As far as caste system is concerned then IITs already have those – AAs, BBs, CCs…. You might enjoy their expansions.

I appeared because I felt it would give me an exam feeling before Prelims. Cleared it and will go for GD PI, but definitely not interested. After leaving a financial sector job where I could write strategic algorithms how can I join a bank which makes me do clerical work?
I guess many people appeared for similar reasons and will have similar reasons to not accept the offer. I guess SBI will filter us out after GD PI, knowing well that we wont join. But why lose an interview experience?
Exactly my point of filling RBI and SSC. Why should I refuse such great opportunities only to later enroll for mock interviews at some stupid coaching institute! Here we can get real evaluation for a meagre fee and we know that everything was real unlike those mock interviews/tests where you are subconsciously aware.
So you appeared for SSC/RBI & still think that SBI is too lame a job for any IIT’ian to appear for !! :) I can see what you mean when you say standard of IIT has really diluted over the years.& moreover you are filling the forms just for interview experience.Dude by doing this you are snatching a JOB oppurtunity from a candidate who REALLY needs it !!! You can have your interview experience in thousand other ways..!! If you are preparing for UPSC i must say you are too arrogant/boastful a person to serve the society.Might be good to rule them & unfortunately that’s what most administrators do these days.!! & you playing AGE of EMPIRES on LAN…hahah….Like mrunal says: Whaat an idea sir-ji !! ;)

I Qualified.. but given 75% weightage of written marks.. they should have provided the merit list too.. to get a better picture…
they don’t provide list so that everyone can appear in the interview with the same frame of mind. also it keeps the selected candidates very much neutral with respect to each other.
Exactly! Or else we’ll see Karnataka Public Service Commission kind of corruption, where you’ll start getting calls a week before interview to arrange for suitcases or to marry some girl.

cut off going so high for SBI PO together with less number of candidates being shortlisted is really shocking….i sincerely hope and pray dat the same doesn’t happen in upsc prelims….im expecting a score of around 220 in general category…fingers crossed
I cleared SBI and I didn’t think I had scored more than 125-130 (at max)…it could be that there have been higher sectional cutoffs (higher even in a relative sense since overall cutoff has also jumped)…UPSC Prelims had less competition than the year before…There will be a lot more vacancies in the IRS this year…cutoffs should not rise by much…you should be fine :)

yaar i have appeared 3 times in the prelims and have heard such rumours umpteen times. there is no point fretting about the cutoffs,u should start preparing for the mains right away.
Actually there is no increase in IRS vacancies this year UPCS civils exam….they will conduct a separate exam for IRSs…btw cutoff will not go beyond 215 in any case…just chill
cut off 215 ?? no way, 209 was last year’s cut off n abt the question -do they look similar in these 2 years ?? not at all, it was a cake walk paper (paper 1 ) with no currents , no tough question..
