Copy pasting the passage meant for English to Hindi translation (20 marks)
Raman completed school when he was just eleven years old and spent two years studying in his father’s college. When he was only thirteen years old, he went to Madras (which is now Chennai) to join the B.A. course at Presidency College. Besides being young for his class, Raman was also quite unimpressive in appearance and recalls,…..‘in the first English class that I attended, Professor E.H. Elliot addressing me, asked if I really belonged to the junior B.A. class, and I had to answer him in the affirmative’. He, however, stunned all the sceptics when he stood first in the B.A. examinations.
Seeing what a brilliant student he was, his teachers asked him to prepare for the Indian Civil Services (ICS) examination. It was a very prestigious examination and very rarely did non-Britishers get through it. Yet Raman had impressed his teachers so much that they urged him to take it up at such an early age. In spite of their student’s brilliance, the plan was not to work. Raman had to undergo a medical examination before he could qualify to take the ICS test and the Civil Surgeon of Madras declared him medically unfit to travel to England! This was the only examination that Raman failed, and he would later remark in his characteristic style about the man who disqualified him, ‘I shall ever be grateful to this man,’ but at that time, he simply put the attempt behind him and went on to study Physics.

“niyukti hetu aharta” wat does it mean? Please anyone tell me the meaning of this.
“Eligibility for appointment”
Thanks DC.
Yes, but it’s ‘ARHATA’, not ‘AHARTA’. Mind you, the ‘ra’ comes b4 ‘ha’ and not the other way round. Pay attention to where the ref(symbol for vowel-less ‘ra’) is – I mean to say it is over ‘ha’ & not ‘ta’. I Know it may b confusing for some but it’s about nuances of Hindi spelling.Hope u got it! :-)
It means ‘Qualification for Appointment’.
Thanks Nitin

I am so scared about Hindi. I did not understand the précis at all, just filled in random lines that made the slightest sense. Comprehension I wrote one line answers, of which I only have two correct. Could not understand the last para of the Hindi translation. Gave two very average essays, did an okay job with grammar, gave a passable English-Hindi translation.
@nitin…same wid me dude..mentioned hindi as medium wen ma medium is actually english…does ds cause any harm
The toughness of the English paper can be understood (I mean… high profile meetings with international organizations…. etc…;-)) but I thought Hindi was for interacting with the masses. I studied in ICSE board and I had hindi as my second subject. Usually, we talk in hindi at home and I have also translated a number of church sermons from english to hindi… However, the precis was beyond me and the passage was quite confusing… I can’t imagine how the masses will understand us if we talk in hindi of such high level :-(

But I am not strong in Hindi. I would like to know what is the pass mark (qualifying marks) for the language paper. Also will it be of the same difficulty level as of 2013 every year?

It’s futile to expect a reply but anyway’s, how should i prepare Hindi Compulsory paper ?
My vocabulary, grammar are at the level of a 1st grade kid, not a 10th grade boy.
I am getting stressed out because of this paper.
Could someone please let me know what is the difference between है and हैं ?
Appreciate your reply. Thank you.
The difference between those is , the first one is used when referring to a thing and the second one is for a person (with respect)
