thanks a lot..i felt the questions are pretty simple and majority being directly picked up from Hindu paper
i felt the same too..
i felt the same..
i felt the same tooo :p
Only one thing required to tackle this paper :Extensive knowledge.
Apart from this i think notes of Mrunal ji clearly targets what UPSC wants…
Great work !
UPSC should rename the GS paper as The Hindu 1 and The Hindu 2 paper :P
the hindu1 & hindu2 is more appropriate as u said ha3
thankx alot..and gud one ravi…hindu 1 and hindu 2 paper…like it
the only thing one need to get good marks in GS is to read Hindu. Nothing else is required. every single question has been published as an article in Hindu other day.
ok guys, relax… every body reading hindu make it even more difficult to score..i dont know y do people consider upsc people as moron…they are baap of everything…
absolutely ….don’t be too deterministic….unpredictability is the only predictable thing about upsc….so have ur eyes open….don’t take things for granted….
WOW….WHAT A PAPER….ITS ALL ABOUT CURRENT AFFAIRS…..
IMO…till date most balanced and way to go forward paper…each and every topics was treated merit wise and pattern of question better than previous years…
questions seem to be simple but definetly the ans need to be strictlty accor to the demand of question.they had to be crisp n to the point n moreover conceptual n contexual.
Reading Hindu and Indian Express is important, moreover Mrunal’s notes also also very important in order to score decent marks, the combination of newspapers with Mrunal’s notes will certainly help candidates
very easy to comment on paper being easy ,try completing 2nd paper in ur drawing room taking 4 hours instead of 3 ,you will come to know about the depth of paper
so true..certain so called pandits have can post in such forums that the paper wer easy..but i thnk they havent crossed the preliminary stage yet..
i too feel the same
There will always be different perspectives of those who has written exam and those didn’t. Its second category that find it relatively easy .
True.
every one knows that upsc is asking question from the hindu but why air 1 not able to score 300+ marks why?

Using a software, I convered the scanned images into the text. that’s how it ended with Cyriia Mietry. Thanks for notifying, it has been corrected now.
as said by every1 the paper was definitely not very difficult and i thanked mrunal and hindu so many times during the paper, however the 2nd paper was lengthy and stats were not so very straight forward esp if u attempted it towards the end …….i got so panicked even when i had more than 30 mins for it that my hands were shaking and cud not complete the paper….dot leave it till the end ever……..as for the paper it was very analytical most of the tym it was wat u think abt the issue……coachings were absolutely negated in effect……if i can make it through.i have really mrunal to thank for…..his work came in real handy and also all those suggestions from io.
following this site, i feel no need for coaching … hopefully I wl be well prepared for my 2013 IAS exams !!! Thanks Mrunal Sir for such an eye opener site :)

UPSC brings a diverse paper every year . Question is simple in first look but How answer written by you Make IT Tough to Score !!!
hi and thank u sooooo much…
wat i feel, questions were mostly analytical as in case of foreign relations while those of sc n tech, envt and polity were quite easier..
topics lyk surrogacy,transfats,CBD,doping,CDM,IWT-1960 were traditional but one shud b updated
i felt art n culture part more difficult,,evn m POOR in stats….
questns were moulded frm hindu,frontline,eco.survey..
govt policies/missions/schemes/programmes hav always been the fav topic of UPSC,can b checkd out frm ministry’s websites..
overall, questions were quite gud n if u hav really burned d midnight oil u cn do justice to d papr..

UPDATE
@To all,
The answerkey for all 1 marker, 2 marker and 5 marker questions, have been published on following link:-Click ME

Lack of any accountability towards aspirants makes it possible for UPSC to do any thing and we poor souls have too accept it and in public forums , even praise UPSC’s intelligence.
I feel that so many open ended subjective questions would further increase luck component, as during their evaluation a lot will depend on evaluator’s personal beliefs too , even if so called model answer’s exists ( though for which UPSC has already denied in Mrunal’s RTI ).
And scattered graph for so many variables was like a cherry on top !
All in all , change just for the sake of change , not in sync with the spirit of required administrative reforms.
Btw , those people who are claiming it to be easy , please just stay cautious of the trap…
~Abhi
I am following mrunal ji notes..by looking at the question i found reading hindu paper is very important..mrunal ji plz help m…m trying for next year
How to use newspapers for UPSC, is explained in this article:
https://mrunalmanage.wpcomstaging.com/2012/06/current-affairs-ias.html
questions are simple for sure but what was important in exam hall was to manage tym..in paper 2, stat shud be attempted at last even if u are good at it..i m from iit bt still those stat questions took more tym compared to marks assigned to them, and for the rest of paper 2, i knew 90 % with surity bt had to compromise on a few 2 markers because of tym…
So, guys, manage ur tym wisely…
Its wrong blaming UPSC for giving a general paper without asking much from standard news and datas, bcoz an ias officer would not be expected to remember all the facts, just knowledge about whats going around him and capability to make a decision and put up his opinion. thats exactly what this paper was about.
i think questions are excellently prepared and appropriatly framed for knowing the intelligence(interpretation n gathering info),intellect(rational thinking) and indepth knowledge( of evry subjects involved), of an aspirant….
though completing the exam in 3hrs is very hard..
all the best to all whole wrote it.
p.s-in your`what to prepare from column/editorial?`,u have mentioned somthing abt nepal and politics, plz revisit.
that example i think mentioned to avoid trivia and repetition and not to avoid developments taking in nepal.
Hi Mrunal pls provide solutions to stats part.
thank you sir.
