Sir,
I am starting from September 2012 for UPSC 2013. Is it best time? Can one complete syllabus in 8 months? How many hours should I read. Please help.
My dear friend,
I too have started the preparation recently and would like to tell you that number of hours will matter less than the number of “quality hours.”
Every individual has his own capacity of learning. You will have to find your own. Mrunal sir, always tell the focus should be on finishing the topic and not on finishing the hours.
I also feel yes we can do it. The time is enough for getting it thorough. Just believe in your preparation and for rest Mrunal sir’s site is there to keep you updated with. :)
hi mrunal
just want ur help
i want to prepare for civil service 2013. i am a govt servant and cannot find time to join any coaching.
i just want to know is it is mandatory to go for coaching or self study is sufficient?
i lived in delhi near mukherjee nagar ias hub and seeing students in lots of number going to these coachings.

Guys i think i all of us follow HINDU & MRUNAL’s website judiciously we can write the max. questions. But one thing is also right that to read the question is one thing but to write is another.
well, i see major change in this pattern is words limit to write is reduced to 3000 as compared to that of last year’s 3490
but difficulty is increased as questions are more on our thought process at the time of exam…so need more thinking & writing speed…
but i loved this paper as its simply based on newspapers, magazines more than static books…
Mrunal sir is such an awesome person ever saw on planet…can’t wait for ur analysis of GS papers..
God bless u sir :)
hii sir, thanx for ur great work…sir kindly suggest the resources from where we can get the current analytical questions of science & tech.,like this year we have the question”The human population is slated to grow to 9 billion by 2050. In this context, many scientists predict that plant genomics would play a critical rule in keeping out hunger and preserving the environment. Explain.” kindly reply sir…:)
thanks sir …sir there are rumours about elimination of optionals can u provide some thing true???
Sir,can you please post an article on caste system in India and its facets like reservation,A.C. Atrocities Act
Several questions such as
1]Is Reservation increasing casteism?
2]People who oppose reservation do they oppose casteism also?
3]What has government done to curb(if not end)casteism so far from 26 Jan 1950 till date?
4]How the Arotcities act have ensured the protection of the SC’s and ST’s?
5]How a civil servant must take on this issue?
Thanx Mrunal Sir great work by postin G.S. question papers
I relied mainly on Hindu, VnR notes and your site mainly.
Hindu portion got diluted later, and I suffered for my ignorance.
I have met with candidates claiming >560 confident attempt in GS.
Do you think that due to this, avg GS marks could end up in >270 bracket?
If it happens, mains qualifier would sky rocket to >950.. Buhuhu.. :’(
sir i had 1 and half year for appearing in upsc but i want to skip reading of ancient / medieval history and seeing the last papers they had not asked so i can only prepare overview its enough th factual thing which are asked
I too agree with .. reading question is one thing and writing is other ..
I think Hindu may be necessary but not sufficient one .. esp for Paper II
I think We need to pick up as many issues and angles to it, as we can from different sources (like MEA sites, wikipedia ) .. and link it with what we already know .. and make a comprehensive viewpoint
you’re right.
