Introduction
- This R.T.I was filled by a reader Mr. Rakesh Singh, seeking official answerkeys for various competitive exams held by UPSC in last five years. UPSC on its part, continued playing Lord Curzon, said we keep answerkeys for last two years only and in that too, 2012’s answerkeys denied in most cases citing “Exam process” is not yet finished. Anyways, still 2011 keys were given.
- I’ve combined those official answerkeys, with the original question papers of UPSC and provided the download links below.
- While these papers are meant for IES, CDS and NDA, but their English grammar, comprehension, sentence arrangement, sentence correction etc. is also relevant for other exams such as BankPO and SSC CGL.
- Similarly, their General awareness portion (particularly the static questions from polity, geography etc.) should also provide practice to UPSC civil service aspirants as well.
- So I recommend everyone to download these papers, practice them @home and verify your answers with the official answerkeys provided by UPSC.

Dear, mrunal i’ve done graduation with history sociology and hindi from panjab university.Am i eligible to take literature of hindi in optional for CSM-2013.i studied hindi all three years as one optional(not compulsory)all three years during BA clairify my doubts.Thanking you
Yes you can take Hindi as an optional.
SSC is more transparent than UPSC. SSC provides answer keys within 4 days of exams. After results every ssc candidate can check their marks . Even a student residing in rural area can fill up offline form of SSC exams.SSC chairman is using twitter and replied every query raised by candidates .
When this will happen in upsc which now become URBAN PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION !!!
you are absolutely right. UPSC should emulate SSC.
thank you sir for the papers :)

Hi Mrunal,
I had filed an RTI for knowing whether i am covered under OBC or not. But they did not reply so on Feb 19 i filed 2nd appeal which is expected to heard in May or June.
Please tell me whethet i should appear in exam as OBC or General category?
If now i appear for OBC if later on i am not covered under OBC then whether i will be eligiuble for appearance in Mains under General cartegory or not?
If now i appear as General and later on can i appear as an OBC or not?
Please reply.

I don’t see why you’re filling R.T.I to find out whether you’re OBC or not. It’s straightforward procedure:
To get OBC reservation you need two certificates
1. OBC caste certificate
2. Non-Creamy layer certifcate.
To get these certificates, you need to visit local Mamlatdaar/ Tehsildaar/ Collector’s office or Zila Seva Sadan (whatever applicable in your city/town).
so go there, ask questions to concerned officials.
They’ll tell you whether your caste is under Central list of OBCs or not. (else check the ministry of social justice’s website)
http://socialjustice.nic.in/pdf/bc081211.pdf
I can easily get the certificate of OBC. But i want to know truth. Some of my friend made this certificate. Suppose i make a certificate if later on in some enquiry it is held that i am not covered under OBC then some problem may arise in future. So i applied for the same.
Further under 1st appeal to RTI, they replied that due to some technical reasons we are unable to provide details. If this info is not provided till Feb 15 you can go for 2nd appeal.
Please advice me what should i do?
Please reply as soon as possible.
It seems that you fall under the creamy layer. So be just and write the exam as a general candidate. In a later stage if you found cheating (somebody may complaint about your OBC status), your selection may get cancelled.
P.S: Reservation is meant for underprivileged candidates, false claims are a crime against them.
you can check your status on OBC on website of national commission of backward class.
http://WWW.NCBC.NIC.IN also you can search your category status on STATES websites every STATE has its own list

Hello Mrunal,
I am finding some answers from Official UPSC Answer Key as confusing. Take for example NDA 2011-1 q. no. 57.
The question is
Which one among the following is the major cause of blurring and unsharp images of objects observed through very large telescope at the extreme limit of magnification?
(A) Air Turbulence of Earth’s atmosphere
(B) poor optical polish achievable on large mirrors
(C) poor tracking capabilities of telescopes
(D) Varying densities of air in the Earth’s atmosphere
————–
Official answer key gives the answer as (B).
But my own logic and search on google gives answer as (A). What do you think ? Do these answer key also have mistakes?
Your help will be much appreciated.
Dear Mrunal,
I’m preparing for Engineering Services Examination. As you are aware we have 2 Technical objective papers and every year 10-15% of the questions are direct repetitions from previous year papers. So I’m desperately in need of authentic UPSC solutions (last 5 years). Can I file RTI so that I can get the official key for the 2 technical papers starting from 2007 -2012? If so, please guide me through?
UPSC destroys answerkeys after two years. so at most you can get last two years’ answerkeys.
please see this R.T.I reply:
