As per the handout, there are section cutoffs, negative marking but there is no ‘sectional timing’. They’ll throw all 200 questions you to at once. You can solve them in any order within 130 minutes
- Save your roll number
- Items to bring @Exam hall
- Computer Tests: A few tips
- GA: Don’t Mark n Review
- Comprehension: Mark n Review
- Online Exam structure
- General Awareness Sample Questions
- English
- Maths
- DI (Data interpretation)
- Reasoning
- Instructions for computer Exam
- General Instructions:
- Note for Person with Disability (PWD):
Save your roll number
AND after the exam is finished, please don’t misplace your hallticket/callletter. Note down your roll number in 3-4 places eg.
- your drawing room’s wall calendar
- as a contact no. in your mobile phone,
- In your certificate file (where you keep your graduation certi. etc.)
- in your google docs/ as your gmail contact
Otherwise when result comes, panic comes “I forgot my roll number, how I can check my result?”
Items to bring @Exam hall
- Admission Letter (you Must paste a passport sized photo on it)
- Photo ID card.
- One Ball point pen (although my advice, also bring pencil with rubber, that way, even if you have to make correction in some calculation you can do easily- comes handy in sitting-arrangement- blood relation type questions otherwise diagram becomes too messy, then you’ve to rewrite everything=time waste.).
Computer Tests: A few tips
COPY pasting the same tips from RBI assistant article
- In the pen-paper based test, if you don’t know answer to a particular question, you could mark it in the question paper, or write its question number at the end of question paper (in the rough space). And at the end of the exam, you’ll review that question and try to solve it again.
- In the computer based test, they also provide same facility. Under every question there is button for “mark/review”. You must make efficient use of mark/ review button. There are two ways to do it (whichever works fine for you).

GA: Don’t Mark n Review
Don’t put GA (General awareness) question on “mark n review”. Reason: if you don’t know the answer for a general awareness question on the first time reading, there is very low chance that you can solve it by “mark and review” (unlike mathematics or reasoning question). Here in GA question, you’ll just waste time in mark-n-review, and in the worst case, your mind will seduce you into ticking some wrong answer based on guess-work, just to overcome to the imaginary cutoffs= score goes down thanks to negative marking.
Comprehension: Mark n Review
- Suppose, after reading the English paragraph, you’ve to answer five question but You can answer only 3 question. Remaining two question are difficult. Now you decide to put other two question on “mark and review”.
- Problem= when you come back to review the same question at the end of exam, the passage would have evaporated from your head, and you’ll need to re-read the whole passage again just for those two question =lot of time wasted. Therefore, solve all Comprehension questions at once after reading the passage, if you can’t solve any, then just leave it, don’t come back later for mark n review.
- ^Same advice for “sets” based on sitting arrangement, blood relation etc. Because if you mark any 1-2 question for review, you’ll have to re-read the whole description to make a new chart on sitting arrangement.
- Same advice for “sets” based on Data interpretation tables/graphs. (unless you’ve framed the equation correctly and just stuck because of lengthy calculation or division and hence decided to put it on mark n review.).
Online Exam structure
- Time limit: 130 minutes
- There is sectional cutoffs=Yes.
- Negative marking: -0.25 marks for each wrong answer
- Result for phase 1 exam will come in Sept/Oct. 2013
| section | No. Of Qs | marks |
| General Awareness | 80 | 80 |
| English Language | 30 | 30 |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 30 | 30 |
| Reasoning ( verbal ) | 60 | 60 |
| total | 200 | 200 |
- The time for the test is 130 minutes; however you may have to be at the venue for approximately 180 minutes including the time required for logging in, collection of the Admission letters, giving of instructions etc.
- The tests will be provided in English and Hindi.
- You can attempt any question from 1 to 200 at any point of time within these 130 minutes. (unlike CAT, in which you’ve to face two sections Quant + DI and Reasoning + English.)

DI (Data interpretation)
Given below is a table showing percentages out of a total of 700 employees ranking six attributes that help promotion. Rank I is the highest. Study the table carefully and answer questions that follow :
Q. Which attribute for promotion has received the highest rank ?
- Perseverance
- Seniority
- Honesty
- Sociability
- Efficiency
Notice the percentage for rank I given in the table. You observe that seniority is the attribute with the highest percentage. So your answer is ‘Seniority’, which is answer No. (2).
Q. How many employees gave rank III to intelligence ?
- 119
- 98
- 77
- 70
- 10
Look at the intersection of the column giving percentage for rank III and the row giving percentage for
intelligence. You find that 10 percent of the 700 employees have given rank III to this attribute. 10% of 700 is 70. So your answer should be (4).
Q. Which attribute is considered the least important for promotion?
- Honesty
- Intelligence
- Perseverance
- Efficiency
- Sociability
Reasoning
For reasoning, RBI simply copy pasted the same questions from Assistants’ Exam handout.

- black
- red
- green
- paint
- yellow
Ans. Of the five, ‘black, ‘red’, ‘green’ and ‘yellow’ form a group as they are names of colours. ‘paint’ is not the name of a colour. Therefore, is the answer. Now try to solve the following questions.
- Find odd
- BC
- MN
- PQ
- XZ
- ST
- Find odd

- Orange
- Guava
- Rose
Directions : In each of the following questions, there is a question mark in which only one of the five alternatives given under the question satisfies the same relationship as is found between the two terms to the left of the sign :: given in the question. Find the correct answer.
- Foot : man : : hoof :?
- leg
- dog
- horse
- boy
- shoe
Ans. In the above example, ‘hoof’ has the same relationship with ‘horse’ as ‘foot’ has to ‘man’. Hence the answer is (3).
Now study to solve the following questions.
- Day : Night : : Kind :?
- Dark
- Bright
- Cruel
- Generous
- Gratitude
- Hut : Mansion : : Rabbit :?
- Hole
- Carrot

As the admit cards have been issued, whether I can rectify the above mistake.
If there is anything which can be done to rectify the above mistake, I would appreciate for the help.
Pls let me know.
Thanks

Thanks Mrunal.
I’m sure, this time overall cutoff will increase by 30+ marks. till last exam people generally solve 80 general awrness questions in 20/25 min and sat idle for another 25/20 min. This time they will utilize those 20-25 min in solving other problems. so cut off will rise.
Cut off ki Tension na lo bhai aur na do :P
MAX 120 jayegi….agar isse zada gayi to saabu ko gussa aa jayega aur RBI namak jwalamukhi phoot jayega :P
Chacha..please Tell me ye sectional cut off kaise nikaalen for example General awareness mein kitne question karne honge..iss baar cutoff ke mutabik ???? Iss baar ka cut off jyada ja sakta hai as per students comments after exam ? Please example dekar bataiye..
Relax dude., Time will solve everything., You are childlike in telling ” I”m going to study”., Who stopped u earlier ? ? .,
you relax buddy with a target 124.
What stopped me earlier?- it was upsc result. I’m almost out of study since july.
Anyway cleared prelims- but now gearing up for rbi.
god bless u bro.

Dear Mrunal,
It is written in the handout that,
“A sheet of paper will be provided which can be used
for rough work or taking down the question number you would like to review at the end of the test
before submitting your answers.”
Is it so that only ONE sheet will be provided for rough work, just one sheet is not adequate, please guide.
regards
Rohit Kumar
Buddy, save trees !
I gave the RBI Assistant paper earlier, you can always ask for more sheets man, choti cheezon ki tension mat lo yaar, just concentrate on studies
They will give a sheet running into 4 pages (i.e, 4 sides) as per my knowledge. I guess its enough for rough works.
alisha kuanar is correct. For RBI assistant they provided a sheet containing 4 sides.
Thanks!
thanks sir.

hello friends/ sir,
I am prepraing for upsc exam. one friend of mine got interest to write this exam. But he is a business man(Age-28), who gets his loan under state government scheme. Whether he is eligible to write exam? Can he compete for government exams?
Please do reply friends
THANKS FOR YOUR FULL PLEDGED DETAILS..
Of what duration current affairs will be covered in this exam. do we have to go back all along sept/oct or from jan will be fine ?
Guys , Please dont start speculation about cut off ‘ll rise +30 ., They’ve given 130 minutes for 200 questions., RBI will decide the max number of questions one can attend., May be the sectional cutoff’s might rise marginally.May be these would rise to say 12-14 this time for English and QA.. I feel the overall cutoff will depend on question paper’s standard and it may not go way beyond like +30… It may be 114(last year’s general cutoff for phase-I) +/-10., That’s it.. Max cut off would be 124. Min it may go to 104 citing increase in vacancies. RBI does recruit 1:20 for phase-I., Of course, some candidates can go on scoring 150 owing to their speed and accuracy , but it is only for a mere display in site for highest mark scored, but what we bother here is the mark of last selected candidate for phase-I . Cut off will not be that much., Mains is important here.
All the best friends.,

Working @ SBI
Seriously , to solve 80 GA questions , it takes at least 30 minutes to read out fully . In that case , 15 mins would remain which you can solve 10 questions in other sections (for sake consider like this), Then how on earth cut off goes beyond +30 marks.,????
104 cut off is of Feb/2011 RBI exam and not Dec/2011, which is still unknown. In Feb exam there were 50 GA questions and in Dec there were 80. So in Dec exam cut off should be > 104 (due to more GA questions). Have u seen any exam where cut off decreases- SSC/SBI/any exam?? in this year UPSC cut off increases by 25-30 marks. only 1500+ will pass prelims- of which many can solve 80 GA questions in 25 min.
You have totally misconceived my comment..,Pls read my comments again. I have said cutoff for last year was 114 for general category. It may go below to 104 or 124 this time. Not more than that., cutoff was published by RBI for dec2011 exam., Check it out in mrunals study plan for RBI Gr.B dear., You have said unknown., Pls clarify it with you. Lets be very frank. Only a very few say some 100-200 can solve 80 ques in 25 min and i appreciate your confidence and i wish you are one amongst it. But the selecions will be 1:20 range in phase-1.UPSC cut off is still not out. and even if it got increased it would have been in range of 225-235 for gen. Dont compare UPSC with RBI. UPSC gives you 2 hours for 80 ques in each section and RBI gives 2hr10min for 200 questions.,I’ll give you cutoffs for last year here.
Phase-I -> 114(200) , Phase-II->170 , Final-> 206(300) for selection.
It may reach 125 this time but surely not 144 as you”ve said.
I might not be an expert dear but i’ve cleared SBI/RBI prelims in 2010.
My best wishes.
I mean to say 104+30 = 134. and not 114. this is my last comment regarding cut-off. i’m going back to study… “time’ will answer the question..
Correction: I mean to say 104+30 = 134. and not 144
Hi,
I have seen in one of the mrunal’s articles that the last year’s cutoffs were 104 for RBI grade B exam, and u r saying it was 114
can u clarify

Correction : 206(350) for final selecions.. in Dec2011 exam
Hi Kumar,
Since you have cleared RBI Prelims earlier I am asking this question to you as you may be aware of what is going on.
I have seen in a couple of forums that RBI has an unwritten rule wherein they prefer only candidates from economics and banking background while they discourage guys from other background (with or without job) by awarding very low marks in the interview (less than 10 out of 50).
Has any of your friends without any economic/financial background got selected as Grade B officer finally after the entire process? Any clarification on this regard will be very helpful
hi… i have few of my frnds who got the post.. they are B tech nd wre preprng for UPSC.. so nthng like that…
@rs kumar the final cutoff for selection in general cat for dec 2011 exam was 203
Hello sir,
I have started using feedly after reading one of your wonderful article on “how to use google reader”.I have a query.Even though i am maintaining notes from newspapers and websites,is it wise to buy india yearbook now (my next attempt being 2014 CSE).How much data will change until next yearbook ??
friends ,when i filled my NICL exam app. form..
i made a mistake by choosing engineering instead of generalist….
i want to give exam as a generalist … wat can i do…?
apply again..sorry, now you can’t.
When I registered to RBI grade b, I received SMS which contained registration no and password but when I login with the same registration no. and password,it is saying Invalid login and I kept on trying but no use. Can you pl. tell what to do?
If u want to download admit card just write ur registration number and DOB.
@ Anug Garg
No other way , you have to submit the application form again and pay the fees again. Do it immediately dear , time is running out..
but if they found 2 app no with same name, address, email id then….
will then cancel my both forms… or select the last filled form
They will take only your last filled application . Don’t worry.
i did the same mistake.but now the date of online registration is over..anyway we have to fight for that small no. of seats. an Engineering graduate always has to reorganise his resources at the last moment. you must have experienced this in your college days.. write the exam with full confidence. gud luck
raj… any idea about what type of questions they ask in NICL AO… can u provide some thing here..?
Hello Sir,
I have doubt, in case we dont have time for answered/revisit to those mark and review questions, after exam time is over then system will be automatically summit answers and closed, at that time our mark and review questions are take it as a answered or unanswered?
I am bit confused, the advt by RBI say that the test is of 180 mins but here its stated 130 mins. Please clarify.
What is the sectional cut off…on the safe side how many minimum questions should one solve for QUANT, REASONING TO pass these sections while scoring much in the other two.
My exam center is in Greater Noida and I have to go from New Delhi. There is Metro route till Noida. After that, one has to take an auto which will cost Rs. 200+ for one way. I know it because, I have attempted IBPS exam on 16th December 2012 in the same center. But this time I won’t take that risk. I have decided not to appear.
My advice to all the female candidates going from New Delhi is that, don’t go alone. Accompany somebody with you. Stay alert and stay safe.
Friend
Don’t misguide people. There is bus facility from botanical garden metro station that takes you to pari chowk. the center is hardly a km away from there. you can get auto at pari chowk. I myself is going to the same center on 24th. it’s completely safe as there are large no of education institute located there. Correct me if i am wrong.
hello Dude……… let xam happen first then we will talk about Cut Offs
what will be the weightage of different sections ? how is it calculated? any idea guys ?
