What to prepare for interview?
From the 2012’s recruitment round, many Players had posted their interview experiences in the comments below the following article:
https://mrunal.org/2012/08/studyplan-acio.html/comment-page-5#comments
so just go through them to get a feel of how the interview goes. Note: every page contains 50 comments and interview experience sharing starts from comment page number 5.
Some tips (from those comments)
- 60% on your biodata. (Why do you want to join IB? Educational background, terminology, hobbies)
- 30% on current issue (mostly national and regional. + some current related to neighboring countries from IB/security/terrorism angle.)
- 10% intelligence system of India.
- If you are not fluent in English practice it, as sometimes panel member may insist that you answer a particular question in english.
- For some people it was for 5 mins and for some it went upto 20 mins.
- In the panel, one member will be observing you and taking notes.
(for more, go through the comments in the link I gave above.)
How to prepare the “introduction or tell me about yourself?”,

Result will be out within 1 month.
last time it came one week after the interviews got over.
Thanks for the info.
hello golden eye .what is this reserve list are u talking about? plz elaborate
I was going through the last years comments page on mrunal.org and I found that they discussed about a reserve list. Its specially kept as a standby for taking in candidates incase the main list candidates fail to show up for training for any reason. I Guess every usually recruitment usually has this method. I still dont have any authentic proof as to whether they really have. Its just that I went through the comments.

asked me about headlines of todays news paper. I said didn’t read it.
Chairman got a bit angry with my reply and advised me to atleast get a newspaper because available in every street. (so guys do read that days news paper)
problems of j&k and initiatives taken by govt.
While i was replying and quoting some schemes chairman again interrupted me and asked about a scheme wholly funded and implemented by jk govt which i was not aware of and said didn’t heard about any such scheme. Then he said the name of a scheme and said that it is an age old scheme so you must be aware of it. I smiled and said never heard of it.
Finished.
All in all it was good cm tried to pin me down but every time i replied with a smile and kept my composure. Nice experience although. Now back to my occupation my dream work of beini IAS. Best of luck to all.
My analyzation of ACIO interview.
I guess most of us faced two types types of interview.
a) Very basic questions like name, why to join IB, Kejriwal etc.
b) slight hard questions and more in number.
I assume it has some thing to do with the marks of the candidates.
“I assume it has some thing to do with the marks of the candidates.” what is that fazan?
Matlb there may be sme criterion of asking such questions to the candidates. They have asked some very loose questions to some candidates on the other hand they have grilled some candidates very properly. To some candidates questions were even asked from the essay they wrote on the written paper.
True. Questions patterns really varied from candidate to candidate. Some centres had interviewer boards which really had good technical questions to ask like Hyderabad and Chennai. Mumbai was the worst. Questions were really shallow and just bio related. Delhi was the most unpredictable. some candidates were asked opinion based questions and some were asked out of the box questions.
Interviews over now……Now the wait for interview continues. Hope it comes in a week like last year.
My Interview last for 40 mins…..Ido not know how long wo have to wait….R u sure the results were declared within a week last year????
I was asked to choose a political party that I’d vote and I was forced to choose one without taking sides….They gave me options of Congress,BJP or AAP….Even though I’m not political at all I still gave an answer and I defended that this party is secular , promotes peace and harmony…………Even before I finished defending my choice, they asked me to leave………….There goes my interview in thin air :( …………Probably,I was not supposed to give in no matter how much they forced………But they’ve mentioned not to misbehave with the interview panel so when I was forced to choose a party I had to go with one of the choice after all………Before this question there were lots of other factual questions and I answered everything……..But I think the last question was meant to trick me……….Probably,I wasnt supposed to choose any political party no matter how much they forced me……Your opinion guys ?
no problem i think.because i was also forced to choose one party between congress and BJP.but i maintained some balance.
They asked you to make a choice. so you did. No harm in it. Afterall one has to choose whom to vote. It was an opinion based question. Though how it would affect the marks nobody knows.
You should have told the answer because whom you vote should always remain a secret(For no reason it is called Secret Ballot).
You may have had your affiliations to the above said party but what happens in the ballot room is between you and the ballot.
Between your being interviewed for a post in Intelligence Bureau, irrespective of you being forced or persuaded to answer, you should have simply told it is secret and it can’t be divulged to anyone.
Maybe this is what they were looking for in the interview(how well you could keep a secret)
This is my view but anyways best of luck cos u never know
*should not have
Most of the panels grilled about AAP. In my view it was more about our bent towards the current scenario. Whether we are AAP sympathesizers or not. (Anti Government/Anti system) mentality.
I guess you have a valid point there. But I doubt if they asked the question with the same intention of us being secretive about our choice of vote or being point blank in answering.
i think u r ryt…………..they r just checking,his power to keep information secrect
You should have not told the answer because whom you vote should always remain a secret(For no reason it is called Secret Ballot).
You may have had your affiliations to the above said party but what happens in the ballot room is between you and the ballot.

Even I think so……I should have told them it’s a secret ballot………..Ha ha……..But then again I didn’t wanna be hostile by saying I wont answer since it was the interview panel and also they forcefully asked me to choose one rather than opting for a safe way out of this question…..
Voting is a secretive process and if you out divulging personal information at the blink of an eye imagine what you would do with IB information.I think that’s why they asked you to leave as you didnt fit the kind of person(secret agent) they were looking for.
On second thoughts IPS officers have come to hate this “aam aadmi nonsense”.
IB does not respect human rights, against all the clamour on the discontinuation of AFSPA and decentralization of power to people(aam aadmi). That makes the attitude needed for IB interview different from typical UPSC IAS/IPS interview.
i dont agree with u on this they just wanted to see whether a candidate is sincere in his answers and confident about it u dont have to be critical in every aspect..if they want they can choose a candidate in 2 minutes intrvw..and let go a candidate whom they have interviewd for a gud 10 minutes ..(A guy working there told me that)..and like mrunal bhai has said they want a workhorse not a person who is critical of every question..
Dude read my comments below. My point was not about being critical but being APOLITICAL.But you cant deny that most IPS officers are overtly critical of AAP.Every human has their prejudices and those interviewers too have. Its a different thing whether they get affect the marks..
As far as time is concerned if they are able to make an opinion about you(either good or bad) they will let you off in 2 min and if they are unable to know you, they will question you for 10-15 min.Its as simple as that, isn’t it?For me it was not more than 5 min and only 4-5 questions.
It was my first time-killing rendezvous outside UPSC so i may be wrong too.
Bottom line is nobody’s sure what the selection criteria is. Everyone puts in their input. Finally it is the interviewer’s final call and our marks that affect the selection procedure. If selected the strategy applied during interview seems correct and if not we introspect as to what went wrong.
so bottom line is when they seriously asked me to choose one inspite of my dilly-dallying , I should have refused to answer this question ? :)
In my view,NOTA would have been a good apolitical option and a diplomatic refusal to answer the question.AAM is yet to deliver and its too quick to judge it for its successes or failures. While certain promises like secularism etc are laudable yet its performance on other grounds are yet to be seen. Some people have been very critical about it (https://www.facebook.com/IITagainstAAP)
But its difficult to think in those moments,so relax :).It shuldn’t affect much.Even those interviewers also knows that as they were also aspirants once. But AAM has been the most common question asked.
Secularism of AAP
http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/kejriwal-receives-ec-notice-for-seeking-muslim-votes-on-grounds-of-religion/1/325789.html
Corruption is the only good thing but can india be like hong kong is yet to be seen

I started but he interrupted and said directly come to point, tell me whats their ideology?
I started with marxist leninist to maoist. Again he interrupted directly cm to point.
After i answerd bout that , he asked what cn b done for that ?
I replied wid govt has already done a lot. Again he interrupted, forget it, what should now govt do ?

My interview was in bangalore on 25th of January. They asked me to introduce myself..then asked me about PFI (Popular Front of India- an extremist group much popular in Kerala, since I am from Kerala), on Abdul Nazar Ma’adani and Bangalore blasts, on carbon credits, carbon dating, many questions on nuclear reactors ( coz they found that I am little weak in that area:)). after that on who Narendra Modi.A comparison question was on who will the best PM- Modi, Mayavathi or Jayalalitha. and the last one was what you will do if you become the Home minister of kerala for the improved security in the state.
Thankyou

When will the interview results be declared?
Last year it was published on the website within a week of concluding the interview rounds. I hope we get within this week or atleast by next week.
Hello friends :)
I’ve been constantly following this update and i should appreciate the efforts put in by all of you.
My interview was okay and one of the panelists asked me to name the best book I’ve read so far apart from study books. I named to kill a mocking Bird he asked me for the name of author I fumbled and finally i said sorry I don’t remember at this moment. He named Harper Lee and then asked the gender of author.I again gave the wrong answer and said male he said female though I like your choice.
In between one of the member asked me if i can drive vehicles I said all light vehicles apart from trucks and trailer. Then that north eastern fellow wearing a tiger suit asked what I can offer to ib initially I answered for what I expect then after other members intervention I answered i can give 100%dedication and a short speech.
The only thing I want to ask from you all that if they ask if drive vehicles shall I be hopeful?
Thanks in advance :)
Hi Saurabh.
Funny coincidence, even I was asked if I can drive.
I was wondering the same thing whether it means something or not. Any way lets see what happens. Wish you luck.
