Correct
toppers can you please guide us for the forestry optional.
Actally one doubt… If a person cleared IFoS exam and later when IAS results come cleared that also, will he be relieved from training in Dehradun? Or is it compulsory that you complete the training once you join? When will the training start? Please reply if anyone know…
The officer trainees (OTs) of the 3 All Indian Services (AIS),i.e IAS, IPS and IFoS are required to undergo a foundational training of three-and-a-half months at LBSNAA in Mussourie. After that only the OTs of each service are sent to their respective training academies, which in the case of IFoS OTs is IGNFA Dehradun. Therefore, before joining either service, the results of both will be out so that you can choose one of them, in case you make it in both.
There is no compulsion/contract obligation if you choose to join. You can resign from the service any time you wish, even while in training, with no liabilities. The foundation course at LBSNAA usually starts on September and the main course on December.
Thank you…
I am sorry there is an error in what I said. Actually, the OTs of IFS are trained in LBSNAA and not that of IFoS. Foresters are made to undergo foundation course held in parallel in other LBSNAA approved institutes at the same time. Rest of the answer remains the same.
Is it at Faridabad ?
Mrunal sir,I have electronics engg as degree so will I be able to write indian forest service exam next year.i have a doubt whether only agri.,civil and mech.engg graduates are permitted,
Any engineering and science graduate can appear in IFoS. Believe me, I am B-Tech in Engineering Physics- an obscure branch- but I bet you will find my name in the above merit list at the 27th position.
Congratulations Akash!!!!!!
Good going Akash, with ur reply to Rose’s comment I’m sure u r gonna sail through CSE too. Anticipating ur interview as Mrunal’s next. By the way, since IFoS and CSE both have the same prelims, is an attempt for IfoS counted as an attempt for CSE too ?
Definitely not. While applying for the prelims you are presented with two boxes- one for civils and other for forests- and you are permitted to tick either of them or both. You will be considered for admission into main exams of CSE and IFoS only if you tick the corresponding box. Therefore, if you apply for prelims and tick only the IFoS box, your attempt will be counted only for forests and not for civils. If you tick both you are deemed to have attempted both the exams.
@akash Sir. In that way don’t u think people with engg. background have an advantage over others in experiencing the prelims paper without wasting there attempt for CSE?I feel upsc notification for last year is not clear on this thing.
Is there any separate cut – off for Paper 1 and Paper 2 of Prelims or is it overall ?
@ Sanghamitra: To the best of our knowledge, there has been no individual cut offs in preliminary exam so far. But UPSC reserves the discretion to play with it and do whatever they want, including setting separate cut-offs. I, therefore, think it to be wise to pay attention to each of the papers to be on the safe side.
Thanks and Congrats :)
Why only 54. Original List has 85 names in it.
mrunal sir, kindly file a RTI asking for cutoff of the exam and marks of successful candidates..
thanks in advance!!!
SIR I M A STUDENT OF B.PHARMACY.CAN I ELIGIBLE FOR IFoS EXAM.
same quiery from my side…hav u any idea????@ ankit
@akash wats your optional subjects?
My optionals were Mathematics and Physics.
Dear sir, if may i know..hw much did u attmpt in those optionals and how much were correct of that…
hi akash , i heard the cut off prelims for IFoS was more than civil services. what was your approximate total in prelims?
thanks and congrats
Yes, I too believe that cut off of IFoS were greater than that of CSE because of lesser no of seats in the case of former. My marks were around 300. Around 110 for Paper-I and 190 for Paper-II
Congrats :)
congrats aakash…
Congrats akash
Thank you for your kind words.
Thanks akash sir.cn u suggest me which optional is good for someone frm engg background.
In IFoS you are required to take 2 optionals, that too only science and engineering subjects and certain combinations are forbidden- the details of which are available in UPSC website and elsewhere.
Regarding the choice of optionals, it is definitely a personal choice and you should be the one making the decision depending on your interests. But I will give you my opinion.
What I feel is that if you are an engg graduate in any subject listed as IFoS optionals it may be a good idea to take it since you’ve been learning it for 4 years. Regarding the second one- engineering guys are generally good in maths, if not physics or chemistry. Therefore one of them can definitely be considered, especially if you have solid foundation in them while mugging them for JEE, AIEEE or state engineering entrance examinations.
@akash sir – please give some details about 25 km walking test and in how much time u managed to complete it .
kindly wait for me to finish my interview with Mrunal where this question is addressed.
Akash sir can u plz suggest strategy for paper2prelimns, how to score in passages. Can u plz provide some suggestions in writing mains.
The best technique, in my opinion, to score in CSAT-II is to practice papers – I mean, mock tests. Then evaluate your attempt and critically analyze your weaknesses and try to improve. Getting passage questions right requires a lot of effort, patience and practice.
In mains, you need to articulate succinctly and that too within the prescribed time limit. So it is better if you hone your answer writing skills by practicing writing on a daily basis.
just wanted to thank you for answering the queries of fellow IFoS aspirants! Its really appreciated.
akash sir…kindly tell us your attempted n expected correct marks in both d optionals as this could become a bench mark for aspirants like us..
thanks in advance
yes I will. I am waiting for the detailed marks of IFoS to come out and then I will send the detailed interview to Mrunal, including all the facts that you are curious to know. So kindly be patient and you will know everything in 2 weeks.
@Akash Sir. Don’t u think people with engg. background have an advantage over others in experiencing the prelims paper without wasting there attempt for CSE?I feel upsc notification of last year is not clear on this thing.can they this time around?
True novice. I do agree that people form engineering background would find the second paper easier but even they would require some practice to get in the mould to solve CSAT paper with maximum accuracy. But since the aptitude part is less mathematically intensive, others (non engg people) will also be able to catch up with the rest of the junta with some patience and effort.
@Akash sir.I think u did not read my full query or may be i could not express it that well,so aplogy from my side but my question was because of dis changed pattern of IFos last year (screeing through CSE prelims),don’t u feel sir that B.Tech graduates enjoy unfair advantage over simple academic BA ,B.Com etc as they can write prelims as a practise for their long term goal of civil services without wasting their attempt for civil services?I feel upsc notification of 2013 was silent on this? Can they change this time around?
Yes novice. Now I got your question fully well. Since the UPSC notification on March arbitrarily imposed the prelims on IFoS aspirants at such a short notice it seriously vitiated the chance of non engineers. I fully agree that it was patently unfair and grossly discriminative. I have articulated thus in my blog and elsewhere as well. Kindly visit my blog to read my views on changed IFoS pattern
http://akashacharyaindia.blogspot.in/
Also I take note of your point that civils aspirants from engineering background can take prelims, tick only IFoS box claiming to be forestry aspirants, and then get an extra chance as a prelims practice. Apologies for not considering it in my earlier reply. Of course, it is a very valid point and need serious consideration. I need to think a bit to say something sensible about it. But if one goes by my suggestion as detailed in the blog- to conduct separate prelims with less emphasis on aptitude and more on relevant subjects- then, I believe, the concern raised by you can be addressed.
And regarding any potential change this year, well, it is within UPSC’s mandate to do so and any attempted prediction is a futile exercise.
@Akash:-congrats for your ur much deserved success in IFoS.U said u had mathematics as your optional alongwith physics.
I’ll be writing IFoS this year. I have Mathematics and Forestry as my optional.
Can you please guide me for Mathematics. You can drop me a mail on pankaj.071987@hotmail.com, where i can easily convey my messages.
Many Thanks.
