Prologue WARNING
- DONOT apply for this EXAM before knowing the job profiles of various posts offered under this exam (Assistant, Inspectors, Auditors, Clerks etc.) Otherwise, Even if you get high marks, you’ll get lower job IF you tick job preferences foolishly. Job profiles covered in separate article CLICK ME, read it thoroughly before you tick the preferences in the application form. They’ll not allow you to change job preference at later stage.
- DONOT tick job preference for Statistical invigilator/compiler posts UNLESS you’ve relevant eligibility. (minimum 60% in class 12 maths OR studied statistics at degree level.)
- DONOT Apply for this exam IF You are in last year or last semester of graduation. (Because candidate must have finished the bachelor’s degree on or before 1/1/2014)
- and most importantly, DONOT misplace your registration id and roll number after the exam is over. Write it down down at multiple places: in your mobile contact list, in google docs, in the wall-calendar in drawing room and in your bio data/certificate file. (Same principle for all competitive exams you appear in.)
In short, first get familiar with this exam-system, SSC technicalities are bit different than UPSC and IBPS. So, don’t make haste in filling the application form, read the official notification first.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I apply multiple times?
Q. I filled up the form but then xyz error happened OR
I’ve already applied but now I want to change the job preference now. Can I apply again? OR
I made some mistake in tying date of birth, graduation marks or xyz thing, can I apply again?
Ans. In case of multiple applications for on-line application, the last application for which part-i and part-ii registration have been completed will be accepted.
For example
- you applied first time and got registration id: ABC1000.
- You applied again, after a few days and got registration id: ABC5000. <=They’ll send you hallticket according to this application.
For off-line applications, the regional director/deputy director at his/her discretion, will accept only one of the applications.
Validity of Distance Education Degree?
Q. I’ve done graduation from xyz postal/distance Education University. Is my degree valid for this SSC CGL exam?
Ans. Yes IF your course is recognized by Distance Education Council, IGNOU. You can see the list of valid courses here: http://www.dec.ac.in/Documents/currentstatus.pdf
Confusion in Job prefrence codes
Q. Which job should I give first preferfence to? so What preference should I give to xyz post?
Ans. Job profiles for individual posts, given in a separate article CLICK ME,
Rule of thumbs are:
– Want uniform?= Preventive officer (white), Excise inspector (Khakhi)
– Want adventure/risk= CBI, Nacrotics, Preventive officer, Enforcement directorate. (although in real life, its more stress than adventure.)
– Want peace of mind, family life, permanently settle in Delhi= Assistants in Group B in certain ministries.
– Want posting in foreign country= Assistant in Ministry of External affairs.
– Non interview posts should be given last preference because they get less salary, power, promotion than interview posts.
Age and Attempt limit
For Assistant (CSS) posts: Three attempts.
Age is counted on 1st January 2014.
| jobs | Age limit for General Category | OBC (3 years relaxed) | SC/ST (5 years relaxed) |

| CBI sub inspector | 20-30 | ||
| Statistical invigilator Group II | not above 32 | ||

Timetable
Q. What is the time table for Tier I and Tier II exams?
Tier-1: 27th April and 4th May. (Given the large number of applicants, it is conducted twice and there also morning and evening session). BUT you’ll have to appear for only one paper.

| 31st August | English paper (afternoon) |
Tie in score
Q. What if two candidates get same final score?
Ans. Final merit list is prepared by combining the marks of Tier-I + Tier-2 + Tier 3. If there is tie, then it will be solved in following sequence:
- Total marks of Tier-II Examination.
- Total marks in Tier-I Examination
- Date of Birth, with older candidate placed higher.
- Alphabetical order in which the first names of the candidates appear.
OBC creamy Layer: Avoid Mistakes
To claim OBC reservation benefit, you need two certificates.
| Name of certificate | Important thing to keep in mind: |
|
State’s own list and Central government’s list are different.Your caste MUST be in central list. Check here http://www.ncbc.nic.in/centrallistifobc.htmlFor example,
The Commission has decided to accept OBC certificate, in the prescribed format, issued after the closing date for receipt of application but issued on or before the date of completion of last tier of the examination i.e. Interview/Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test/ Document Verification, as applicable , in the concerned SSC Regional Office, as valid proof of belonging to non-creamy layer of OBC. NOTE:- Candidates are warned that they will be permanently debarred from the examinations conducted by the Commission in case they fraudulently claim SC/ST/OBC/ExS/PH status. |
|
|
- In short, make sure you’ve these certificates, else make trip to Tehsildar’s office/Collector Office/Jan-Seva Kendra and get the proper certificates.
- Otherwise, SSC will reject you at the last stage, during document verification and your entire year will be wasted for nothing.

RTI
Q. I want to file RTI to SSC for xyz matter
Ans. How to file RTI, is explained in following article click me
No. of vacancies?
Q. How many vacancies are there, for those individual posts?
Ans. Firm number of vacancies in each category of posts will be determined at least one month before the declaration of the final results.
Last Semester
Q. I’m in the last semester/ last year of college? Can I apply?
Ans. No. You must have completed graduation on OR before 1st January 2014. Otherwise, they’ll reject you at document verification stage.
Let’s assume you prepare extremely well and clear tier 1 and tier 2, still they’ll reject you at document verification stage. So, instead of occupying a seat at tier-II, tier III, better let a needy person get those seats.
Besides, SSC will release official answerkeys and cut-offs. So, you can practice the same question paper at home. (instead of appearing in the exam just for the sake of “experience”).
additional FAQ

Q- I have not filled the non interview post as my preference , can i get that post because now i am planning to change my preference order?
No , SSC strictly followed the preference order , if you have not filled the post then you will not get it .
Q I have a backlogs in my graduation , that i have still not cleared , can i fill this form?
No, if you have back it means you have not yet completed your graduation .
Q i have 45% marks in graduation , can i fill this form ?
Central govt recruitment is based on merit system , for this they conduct written exam . Less marks in graduation / 10th / 12th does not create any problem . There is no such specific criteria, you can go ahead.
Q I use -5D spectacles , will it create any problem in income tax inspector or any other post ?
No , no problem at all. Your vision should be 6/6 using glasses.
Q i have not filled CSS cadre in my preference in 2012 exam , will it be count as a used attempt for CSS cadre.
If you have not filled CSS cadres in your preference / you dropped the idea to give T1 exam then this attempt will not be counted as a used attempt.
Q – i have filled statistical investigator post in my preference but i don’t have statistics as a subject in my graduation ?
Give T1 exam and don’t appear in statistics paper of T2. not a problem at all.

sir m btech in ece!!!!!!!for what posts m eligible???????
by mistake i have also ticked for compiler post(last preference),my academic background is b.tech(information technology).please help me ,what should i do???
Same happened for me.. Me too BTech IT..
If you pass in Tier 1 , Tier 2 exam will be of 3 parts, including statistics paper.
But if you have not appeared or you have not qualified for the statistics paper, they will not consider for the compiler post. And they will post you according to the marks you got in the other two papers.
Means either you appear for stati or you wont appear, it will affect your chances in getting selected in statistical investigator/compiler position only…
So dont worry about that. If you qualify in Tier 1, write english and maths papers in Tier 2…
all the very best..
my father is a group c employee in railways but his gross income just exceeds 6 lakhs. sir my doubt is can i claim the obc reservation. am i eligible to compete under obc reservation.i have read ur article but iam not clear if a groupc employee’s son who earns more than 6 lakh will come under obc plz clear this
Source from Internet: http://obcreservation.net/ver2/forum/6-ncl-what/2133-can-i-get-obc-reservation.html
The criterion (2) & (3) clearly speaks that only the sons and daughter of following “government servants” will be treated as creamy-layer.
(i) Parents, either of whom is a Class I officer. (Direct Recruitment)
(ii) Parents, both of whom are Class II officers. (Direct Recruitment)
(iii) Parents of whom only the father is a Class II officer and he gets into Class I at the age of 40 or earlier.
(iv) In military, colonel and above.
“Other than the above 4, all the government servants are not creamy-layer.”
thank q nikhil.can u clear my other doubt i.e in this article written by mrunal sir it is said that two certificates are needed for claiming obc.one for caste n the other for non creamy layer.3 months back when i took obc certificate they did not give me two certificates but they gave only one in which there is a clause of non creamy layer is it ok.last time when i approache the regional tehsildhar office they said this is the only certificate for obc.what to do.
i request mrunal sir if he ssee this post to reply me how to approach regarding this problem
to keep it simple i have a obc certificate whic clarifies about the caste at state and central level, and also about the non creamy layer status in one certificate is it ok.
my father is in public sector undertaking and have income more than 6 lakhs
so will i be eligible for obc non creamy layer reservation
you can avail reservation facility as creamy layer concept is not for group c employees. 6 lakh rule is only for business.
u would have been excluded if
1. your father/mother(or both) became class 1 officer before 40 years of age.
2. your mother & father both are class 2 officers(becaome before 40 age)
3.
.
.
.
.
check dopt website for more details(why to even check when u know u can avail reservation facility).
thank q tushar for ur reply.plz chek the above comment from me.

Thank u very much sir ……….how to preapare for mathematics with more qs less time technique
Do the tier I marks get added to the tier II marks when calculating the interview/merit list?
yes tier1 marks get added to the merit list. This is not UPSC where your prelims score gets discarded after you write mains exam while preparing merit list!
hi plz anyone tell me the list of jobs that comes under Statistical invigilator/compiler
@Pawan, only two:
1. Statistical Investigator Gr.II (Job code R)- interview post.
2. Compiler (job code $) non-interview post.
Do they have separate cut offs for persons who opted for Stati Invest/compiler in Tier 1??
If we opted for these posts and if we dont appear for statistics paper in Tier 2 , only thing happens is they wont consider us for these posts, No?
They will consider us for the other posts if we write the other two papers in Tier 2?
Yes they do have separate cutoff for these posts and yes even if you don’t appear for paper 3 you will still be considered for other posts on account of your appearance in paper 1 and 2.
Oh..Thanks for answering my questions MJR..
i applied cgl 2014 ..today morning i also received email verification .but i did’t take printout my app.so i try to login but it saying you entered information wrongly . wat should i do?
Mrunal SSC counts attempts even if one fills the form…I have applied it during my graduation years also…though not appeared…back then I wasnt aware of their counting method…I thought it will be like UPSC.
So I think I may not have attempts left for CSS…
Suppose if I still opt CSS as 1st preference…will they reject my candidature for CSS or for entire CGL exam.
Dear sir, can you upload the current affairs for 2013-2014 and if it is already uploaded please give me the link.
dear sir,i am interested in inspector jobs, how many options can we give by filling the application form?
last year i filled but did not sit in the exam so will it be counted in 3 attempts or not??
no …. (condition is same as upsc) . if u hav not mentioned CSS cadre in ur preference then also this attempt will not count
is this 3 attempt rule is applied on central govt. employee also(not in ministry post)?
yes , this rule also applied for central govt employees
Thank you very useful information
my age is 32 years category obc work exeperience 6 years in nationalised bank
am i eligibel for this exam
@Amit you’ve over-crossed the age limit for OBC. And Bank employee= doesn’t get age relaxation benefit of central government employees. so you’re not eligible for CGL-2014.
Hello Sir,
Online error.. while submitting the age relaxation I made an error…I gt the reservation ST.
Can I correct that? Or It will be a problem for SSC CGL 2014..
I also want to know.. I need to mail for SSC for the Error?
@Mrunal: I have been studying from IIITM Gwalior. It provides integrated postgraduate 5 year course.I will passout with dual degree(B.TECH. +MBA) in the May 2014 which will be in combined .I want to know whether I am eligible for SSC CGL 2014 or not ?
I think you cant apply as you don’t have degree certificate.
if u will get a separate degree of btech which will mention that u have passed the graduation on or before jan 2014,only in that case u r eligible other if u will get combined degree of btech +mba the u r not eligible.u will be eligible next year.
sir,now i am applying for interview posts, does it mean i am eligble for all non interview posts
if u hv not mentioned non interv posts in ur preference then u will not be considered in non inter posts.
sometimes tax assist vacancies they considered all who hav crossed the cutoff of tax assistant but such things not happened for other posts
i am not able to fill form, always i get error”netscape not supported please use IE or opera”
i tried both the browsers, but still i get same error.
please help me out.
rohan sir, ie version 7 supports, kindly try
Don’t use google crome and any other browsers…. only use Internet Explorer and opera mini ok..
same problem wid me dude.. bt dnt worry… i thnk there is some glitches wid the site.. hope so it will be rectified tmrw..
Hi Tejesh,
I got the same error with Opera and IE. What I noticed was that my friends could fill the form with IE8/9 but I could not as mine was IE 11.
I went to CONTROL PANEL ->UNINSTALL PROGRAM ->VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES of my computer and then searched for and uninstalled the latest patch for “Internet Explorer”. My current IE version is now IE 10. Now I have no problem in filling the form. In short, you need a lower version of the browser due to some compatibility issues with the SSC website as the site itself is built on an older version of the browser.
You may google it too.
hi anubhav …
should i uninstall my internet explorer and download it again ?
Use IE and Add the website address in Compatibility View Settings under Tools(Alt+X).Reload the Page.
thankx venkat…your suggestion worked :)
@venkat,thank you very much.your solution worked

@Venkat
Thank you so much for your usefull information, keep up your good work, Thank you.
wonderful solution, it worked, thank you very much.

IF I opt CSS as my 1st preference then, I want to know the order of CPT and Interview. i.e
1. after qualifying tier II, which one is conducted 1st, CPT or Interview ?
2. Whether CPT is conducted before final allotment or , after one is selected for CSS(i.e. after final result).
If I fail in CPT, but qualify in interview, then will I be eligible for other posts in my preference list?
mrunal ji,
it is been informed computer proficiency is must for css post, but i could not find what ssc means by computer proficiency, kindly update us in this matter. thanks in advance

Mrunal Sir…
My first attempt at SSC CGL was in the year 2011. The Tier 1 paper was not evaluated as I had not mentioned the Test Form Number and hence I was awarded Zero marks. My question is that will it b considered as a valid attempt for one of the three attempts for the post of Asstt in CSS?
Please reply
