Navdeep Singh Suhag (4th Rank, 2012)
- I started my preparation for PET only a week before actual date as I was involved with my State PCS Mains and then Civil Services PT preparation. I have sports background so I didn’t feel much trouble in getting into shape soon
- but I would suggest other candidates to at least try all the events in a quick succession so as to stimulate the real test conditions. Otherwise, the officials present there are also very cooperative in the sense that they give time lag between events like 800mt and 100mt.
- My PET was held at Basic Training Centre of ITBP, Bhanu in Panchkula District. Ours was first batch of this recruitment. Officials were very cooperative in matters like sending few of their employees to get our documents photo stated in case one missed some.
- One important thing to be remembered is to furnish all important documents, originals, at time of PET or else you will not be allowed to undertake test.
- Take PET as test of your courage and determination rather than physical ability as it is more related to mental toughness. Here it pays more is to be determined mentally in comparison to physical preparedness. So focus on this aspect too while preparing.
Kartikeya Mishra (Rank 4, 2011)
During graduation, I worked out almost none. So the first day in field for PET preparation(20 odd days before the PET) was forgettable and I clocked about 10 minutes for 800 meters.
But I relied on muscle memory and 15 days of running (2 Km a day) brought me within the clocks. One day prior to the tests, I worked exclusively for long jump (which is toughest part of PET, because of people not knowing the technique). For non-regular sportsperson, it is mandatory not to push their bodies too far in first few days to avoid sudden injury. Fitness test is of medium toughness but it is conducted in the month of June often starting in the afternoon so it becomes a nightmare once the cloud cover is not there.
Mani Barathi (Rank 5, 2012)
- My PET was held in NISA, CISF, Hyderabad on 09/05/13. I got approximately one month time after result declaration to prepare for PET.
- Since I was an athlete from school days PET was not difficult for me. 15 days would be sufficient to fit in the requirements for an average person. 800 m and long jump are the events in which most people fail. There are lot of tips in net for long jump.
Vishal Bansal (Rank 9, 2012)
- It was the hardest part for me. Due to the very nature of preparation of civil services one hardly gets time for physical exercise. So confidence in own physical capability was surely an issue. However with the help of friends, their motivation and firm resolve, all went well.
- I used staircase running to build up stamina.
- Completing 100m sprint was always a grey area after running 800m. I never finished the line before 14 secs. Luckily at the PET, 100m sprint was the first event.
- High temperatures of summer noon and blowing air mixed with dust, drained much energy during 800m. I cleared long jump event in my last attempt. I need not mention shot-put event as no one fails in this ever.
Viplav (Rank 47, 2012)
- Before the results of written test I had never run even 500m at a stretch in my whole life , so I had to start from scratch. I focused on building my stamina by doing push-ups and running by the clock.
- PET takes place on a hot-sunny day so chances of nasal-bleeding are very high.one should keep a wet handkerchief and put it in his mouth while running.it helps in keeping the mouth moist and avoids any chances of bleeding. Do not take take rest between the events.
- While practicing alone you may not clock the required timings but don’t panic.on the PET day you are made to run with 20-30 people so your timings will automatically improve without you even realizing.
- While practicing don’t push yourself too hard, try not to get hurt before the PET.
- On the PET day keep yourself motivated every minute and don’t lose hope even for a second.
Some more
- I have been a regular member of school and college football and cricket teams so it was easy. Anybody involved in field sports would find it a cakewalk. Although I saw most aspirants failing in long jump which was merely coz of not being familiar with technique. (Dharmendra Singh Rank 25)
- I’m an avid foody. An aspirant puts up weight faster. I was 90 kg so i reduced 23 kg in 3 months. I followed salad n low fat diet. I was studying for mains . Jogging 5 km daily n dieting. It helped me get fitter and enhanced my focus. I felt better about myself and confident. Sufficient practice for 1 month can get an avg built person through. (Swachhand Chavan Rank 99)
- I had taken tips from my PET sir (School) and practiced at home for about an hour daily. It is not that hard to clear PET but one has to follow the rules of the game. While practicing remember one thing, try all the events at one time, I mean don’t take rest in between the events as it is the same on real time. (Gangavarapu Vikram Rank 137)

yup u ryt…before 8th hope so…
Even I think so..
All d best guys
Interview is over by 2nd July.1030 candidates called for Interview for 424 posts. Atleast 50 will be absent because of Civils Selection and Review(Color blindness , enormously over weight etc).so competition will be between 980 candidates. By next Wednesday results will be published for sure.
my interview:
Hemchandra Gupta panel:
C: why did you leave your job?
C: so you will leave the job of assistant commandant also?
C: what is the difference between ICSE board and CBSE board?
C:why should we select you?
M1 :why don’t you have an NCC certificate?
M1:hobbies?what is a anand’s ranking?
M2:why cisf?
M2:is the role of CISF changing?
M2:what is the difference between revenue and turnover?
MP3:what is discipline?

M2: where do u see yourself after 8 years?
M2:give an example from your life when u have led your team?
M2:what did u do in TCS?
C: what r ur achievements in athletics?
Overall the interview was cordial and 80% of the questions asked were expected by me.
Is dere anyone here who had also given IAS interview..
Wasnt that muh lucky but i know few who have given both i.e. ias as well as capf interview. Most of them are even expecting a good rank but they wont join
In my opinion cut off should be around 265, cause more vacancy this time and paper 2 was a bit lengthy. Result in next week. Stay cool, just wait & watch ….
Around 940-950 will be left for merit formation after re-medical So yes ratio will be near to 1:2. This time cut-off will be less than 270. As last year for 375 selections cut-off went at 274 So for 424 seats it will be below 270 for sure, as paper-1 cut-off this year was almost similar to last year. So friend as per my estimate cut-off will be near to 264-265 if we consider reserve list as well otherwise 267-268 approx.
Further most probably seat with not reduce rather they may increase So yes we will see a less cut-off than last year. Your comments invited.
Till 2011, UPSC used to recruit atleast 80 candidates more than the declared no. of seats. But in 2012, they recruited 50 less than declared vacancy.
e.g. in 2009 there were 470 seats and 540 selection,(Excluding reserved list).
in 2010, 740 seats and 840 selections(excluding reserved list).
in 2011, 490 seats and 560 selections(excluding reserved list).
But in 2012, 401 seats and only 370 selections and that too INCLUDING reserved list candidates.
Despite many candidates seeking extension and half of them leaving the service in between, they recruited less no. of candidates last year vis-a-vis other years. Lets see what happens this year..
Nishat bhai…
Itni kya tension wo pura csat laga diya ..
hahaha…aashu bhai csat shuru kar diya hai isliye thoda practise kar raha tha…
Very nice analysis…..last year only crpf recruited less than advertised.
I feel paper 1 was bit difficult than last year. So it may be 90 to 94 for first paper.
Last year many camps of paramiltary forces were washed off due to heavy rain and cloud burst in J&K and Uttarakhand so recruitment was less dan notified… but dis year probably dis will not be de case..
friend there is a difference bw CAPF and paramilitary…as per GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION IN 2011 PARAMILITARY FORCES ARE THOSE WHICH ARE HEADED BY MILITARY PERSONNEL…THERE ARE THREE SUCH FORCES ..SFF, COAST GUARD,ASSAM RIFLE..CRPF, SSB,BSF, CISF, ITBP ARE CALLED CAPF…THIS ASPECT CAN B CHECKED IN MHA WEBSITE
you are right Sam.
AT POST DIVAD, TAL – MAN, DIST- SATARA

Fingers crossed now….interview and remedical finally over….result will be declared in a week…All the best to all.
All the best everyone :)
Lets wish that vacancies should be atleast what they have mentioned, not less. :P

To be honest.. i gave it as a mock test.

though i didnt prepare dedicatedly for this exam, after putting so much of effort for physical and spending time and money on interview i dont want to go back empty handed
@bhaz: u r ryt…after putting so much effort nobdy wana go back with empty hands…..Jaldi se result aa jaye yaar tnsn khtam ho…preparations bhi nhi kar paa rha hun mein toh civils ki….
better you go for real estate sector you will get good return.
I just wanted to experience upsc board panel interview… it was really awesome … but wil join if I get cisf..
My Board was headed by Manbeer Singh (30th June). I found the members very serious (I mean expressionless) and they dug deep into my previous job experience and RTI Act. Overall the interview lasted for around 20 minutes. Though I replied almost all the questions, I do not know how pleased they were with my replies. I also came to know that Mr. Singh was quite harsh in CSM2013 Interviews Marking. So, after all this I am confused and just hoping for some good news to come-by next week.
all d best RJ…Hope u will go thru….
I got d same board….n I hav heard tat he ll giv average marks to most f them…. I.e 75-85..safe board u can say….Nt like rajini mam….where u ll get either very high score(cisf) or very low (out f list)…
So if ur written marks s above average then definitely u ll b in d list
What about chattar singh board in terms of marks ????
No idea about his marking style (esp in CAPF) as I encountered only one person who had Chattar Singh. He got 162 in civils interview. BTW, what may be considered as a safe score in Objective to clear CAPF (assuming 80 marks each in interview and subjective).
Thnk u RJ…..Lets see wht will happen…jst keep fingr crosd…may by 2mrow v will have our result….Gudluck to all….
congrats dear….neither dubious x-ray report nor harsh interview stop u from getting 30th rank ….
and your epic reply…..do well , this time for love :P
salute
All the very best guys for d final result…
If I get CISF then only I am planning to join it…
can u tell me how is the life in ITBP and BSF. Is it not good or what…thhat u r planning to join cisf only…am new and have no idea
My friend is in ITBP. Quality of life is good if you like hills. Initial training will be very hectic and very much like the other CAPFs.Almost an year so you wont be able to prepare then.
After that as an AC you will be sent to remote posts (which can be very cold in winters) for 3-6 months. There you get sufficient time for preparation. As far as cold is concerned, your accommodation comes with BUKHARI which will keep you very warm so shouldn’t be a problem. At your base the work load depends upon your performance – perform well and you’ll get quality work (less time for studies), perform moderately and you’ll be assigned lighter work where you can prepare. Also these guys retire to their rooms during afternoon for almost 2- 3 hrs (opportunity for studies). Evening time is reserved for games mostly depending on your CO. Takes care of your physical side.
Point is, if you want you can study that too properly if you want. You will get a lot of time (as compared to other jobs) in between regular jobs and trainings provided you stay focused.
I’d have preferred ITBP had it been open for girls.
Also it can get a little isolated and lonely on the hills.(but that again will enable your studies). Remote postings and forward location – usually based near a small town- u may not like it if you are used to metropolitan cities. You’ll have company of the battalion people though,
Thanks a lot pari88.Thanks a ton for your valuable feedback
I don’t meant that, by joining CISF which is mainly posted in metros or industrial hub I just wanna focus for civil service exam with the required study environment UNLIKE that of ITBP n BSF where u wil b posted in the border areas, where the study materials are not easily available.
Btw both of them are equally good in other perks n facilities.
All the best 4 d final result….
What is ur expected marks in paper 1???
@ranswitzer and @Param – study material procurement will be an issue. I used to scout for material here in Delhi and then send the relevant stuff to my friend including question papers, current affairs coaching notes. Delhi -> transit camp -> forward post; easily done but someone needs to make efforts. On forward locations even getting THE HINDU will be a problem. But VOILA! you do have good internet (atleast ITBP does) so you can go for epaper and take printouts from sources like mrunal, follow PIB etc.. Configure your feedly.
What I’m saying is if you really want then you can make it work. Use technology and take help from few friends residing in coaching hubs. CISF will definitely be better in terms of ease of getting study material (which is really important). All the best.
@pari88
I second you..
But still m fully focusing for cse, else r secondary
can any one tell me how is life in itbp and bsf.can one continue preparation of upsc civils in these jobs.please reply am confused
Can any one tell me about the life of AC in ITBP n BSF .guys pls tell.can one continue with upsc preparation after the job .

Ankit pls answer 1 query
Those who clear this exam are not allowed to take the next exam (i.e 2014) or are debarred from further capf exams also i.e2015-16 also
Yes brother.
Once you get selected, then it debars you from taking this exam again in your life.
As per UPSC Gazette notification.. here goes the note:
A candidate who has been finally selected on the basis of an earlier examination to the post of
Assistant Commandants in any of the Forces participating in the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant
Commandants) Examination will not be eligible to appear at a subsequent examination for recruitment of
Assistant Commandants in the participating Central Armed Police Forces.
thanks ankit
