Prologue
- IBPS had conducted online examinations for the post of Probationary officers/Management trainees throughout this October & November 2014.
- Based on the exam experience shared by the players, I have consolidated all the questions asked in different shifts and divided them section-wise so it will help all the future aspirants who are planning to attempt IBPS PO/MT in 2015.
- First and most important thing is to understand the exam-pattern: what type of questions are asked and from which book/newspaper? Then prepare accordingly. For example- SSC requires different approach than IBPS. CSAT requires different approach than IBPS and so on.
- if someone has cleared CSAT and he thinks IBPS will be a “pappu” exam, then he’ll be making a big mistake- same is true for the reverse case.
- Anyways, IBPS PO/MT online exam consist of 200 questions (each right answer=1 mark, wrong=negative 0.25)which had to be answered in 2 hours.
- There were five sections viz. Reasoning, English Language, Numerical Ability, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge.

| Sentence correction | 4-6 |
| Para jumbles | 4-6 |
#1.Reading Comprehension
Read the following passage and answer the questions below it. A few words are given in the bold form to help easy location while answering some questions.
The first of the Great Debates, between Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts and the incumbent Vice President Richard Nixon on September 26,1960, centered around domestic issues. The topic of the next debate, on October 7, was a clash over U.S. policy regarding two small islands off the Chinese coast, and on October 13, this controversy continued. On October 21, the final debate, the candidates focused on American/Cuban relations. Few of the 70 million viewers could have fathomed what this first-ever televised presidential debate augured, not only for this specific series of debates, but more importantly for the preeminent role the fledgling medium would play in the future of the political arena. A pallid Nixon arrived at the Chicago CBS studios after a gruelling day of campaigning. The previous August a knee infection had sidelined him. He was still twenty pounds underweight, and he perspired profusely in an ill-fitting shirt. Moreover, he declined makeup to burnish his hospital pallor. The freshly painted studio backdrop had dried to an ashen hue that obscured his matching suit. The Democratic contender by contrast exuded a robust glow after a month of campaigning in California. He had spent his day rehearsing potential questions and relaxing. An aide later admitted that he supplemented his natural glow with a smidge of makeup. He was fit, trim, and confident. Despite the remarkably similar agends and arguments of the Republican and the Democrat, TV viewers unequivocally believed Kennedy to be the victor – whereas people who had followed the debates on the radio held the opposite opinion. The age of TV had arrived, and the subsequent party shuffle proved the undeniable potency of television.
Q : The author is mainly concerned about which of the following?
- The debating styles of John Kennedy and Richard Nixon during the 1960 Great Debates
- The effect of television on the results of the 1960 Great Debates
- The health of Richard Nixon at the time of the 1960 Great Debates
- The number of television viewers who tuned in to the 1960 Great Debates
- None of the above
Q : According to the passage, which of the following was true of Richard Nixon?
- He had a five o’clock shadow during the first debate.
- He wore a brown suit during the first debate.
- He lost his job after the election.
- He warned of the impending Cuban crisis.
- None of the above
Q : In context of the above passage choose the word which is most similar in meaning to the given word: freshly
- Healthy
- Garnish
- Beautifully
- Recently

After a journey of over 660 million kilometres that took 10 months, India’s Mars Orbiter Mission has swept with effortless ease into orbit ___(1)__ the Red Planet, making this country the first to achieve such a feat in a maiden attempt. Probes despatched to Earth’s sibling planet over the last half a century have often run into trouble of one kind or another, with only less than half of those spacecraft ending the voyage successfully. Thus far, only the United States, the former Soviet Union and the European Space Agency have __(2)__ in doing so. India and its space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), now proudly join their ranks. Although ISRO could draw on its experience with the lunar probe, Chandrayaan-1, __(3)__ six years back, the challenges involved in sending a spacecraft all the way to Mars are far greater. That includes propelling the spacecraft with __(4)__ velocity to escape Earth’s gravitational grasp, guiding it along the proper trajectory over vast distances, and then slowing it down sufficiently to go into orbit around that planet. The spacecraft had to be capable of operating autonomously as communication signals to and from ground __(5)__ could take minutes to reach it. All of this has gone remarkably smoothly, including the orbit insertion manoeuvre with the spacecraft’s main engine, which had lain idle for almost 300 days. It is a tribute to ISRO and the professionalism of its scientists and engineers that every minute detail for such a complex mission could be attended to in the course of a project completed in just one and a half years. India’s Mars effort __(6)__ Rs.460 crore, an economical price tag by Western standards.

Quants==> Damn time consuming, tough, no direct ques!
————————————————
topic=> Average,Aligation,Time n dist, Quad eqn , DI =4 set of quen(pie, graph, table, pie) , inequalities , Age prob, Data sufficiency( it is easy acc to me!)
Reasong==> Easy to moderate
———————
syllogism(moderate)
Assumtion, inferc, conc===> one ques with all angles

English=> Easy to moderate

senten arrange==>bit tricky(for me :( )
clze test = easy
grammar error = easy
Altogether, i attended 140 ques ( Aps=20 , Rea=30+ , Eng=25+ ,Com=15, GA=27)..
Thank you Revathi for sharing the list, best wishes for result.
PLz correct 28- BKS Iyengar received Padma vibhusan in 2014.
One suggesstion for Reasoning and Quants section—-“DONT OVERESTIMATE YOURSELF…Leave the ques the moment it takes more than 2 mins!!..” there are plenty of more easy ques, try to search and attempt those!!
Quant—–Normally questions came from familiar topics like percentage, Proft-loss, Unitary method, simple mensuration etc but calculation was very lengthy considering time constraint..so PRACTICE is must for quicker calculations..for DI there again practice is needed..and it wasn’t as tough as that of SBI PO exam.
Reasoning—Not that difficult if you are able to find easier ones out of 50. Also command over syllogism and those inequality types(eg: P>=Q>T<S=P, then some conclusion are given) helps to quickly solve atleast 10-12 questions…Arrangement ones are normally difficult and consume lot of time..try only at your risk!
Computer—Basic questions on OS/MSWORD/Input output devices/Internet protocols/Application and system software/RAM-ROM/Hacking-fishing-sniffing, etc..very basic types..mainly knowing definition and practical knowledge will suffice
GA:—if u are reading newspapers daily since the time of notification of exam..its a cake walk..but yes for banking related ques..as i have read Ramesh Sing's Economy..i didnt faced any prob…would suggest to buy it for Banking and Economy section..as now days questions are bit typical from Banking area
sir pls tell,
do thy ask same type of questions in SBI PO as asked in IBPS po ?
from where i can prepare english for SBI PO 2015
had my ibps xm. it was on lines of rbi grade b.
quant part was tough. questions totally bankng based
What about BODMAS type ques?? In sample paper they r giving atleast 10
What about today’s paper?? Did they ask??
No BODMAS type on 11th Morning shift..
yes dude…I could not locate them and was disappointed
IBPS PO Afternoon session.
GK
It was easy to moderate. one could easily clear cut off in this section if he had studied last 2 months paper.some of the q’s were
1) currency of 1europian country
2) lives of others author?
3) payment in any currency – sbi tied up with mastercard
4) sbi + reliance partnership for what?
5) us open men’s ?
6) Governer of maharastra?
7) in RIDF I stands for ? ( irrigation or infrastructure)
8) about ADR
9) padma vibushan awardee?
10) pandit ravi shankar related to?
11) highest population density state acc to 2011 census
ENGLISH
this section was also easy to score. 2 passages, no grammatical correction portion this time, 5 to 6 best suitable phrases, 10 fill in the blanks , 5 q about rearranging sentences …
COMPUTER
personally i dont like this section coz you need to remember all the short cuts and he also asks some silly questions from which one can not assess your computer knowledge.
this time there were 3 shortcut key q’s regarding excel, 2 short cut keys in ms word. dos full form,1 i/o device q,
Quanti
like last time, it was lengthy, but doable.
1) no q’s abUt BODMAS
2) nearly half of the q’s were frm DI ( 1 pie chart, 2 tabular , 1 line graph, 1 bar graphs )
1 tabulation was easy and another one lengthy
line graph was very easy
pie chart ( 2 crl chart ) 2 q’s lengthy, 2 were easy
bar graph – there was only 1 q frm it
3) 1 q frm time and work ( moderate)
4) 1 frm speed n distance ( difficult )
5) 1 frm ages in ratio form ( easy )
6) 4 to 5 q’s finding relationship bwn x and y ( didnt have enough time to do it )
7) data sufficiency – 4 to 5 q’s ( again no time )
8) 2qs from geometry ( difficult )
9) 1 q on S.I and C.I ( moderate, lengthy )
10) 1 frm partnership ( moderate, lengthy )
Reasoning
this part was much easier than last yr’s reasoning.
1) 6 to 7 syllogism : had to find 1 which was not true ( easy )
2) 1seating arrangment with language ( couldnt able to solve in time ..but doable , moderate )
3) puzzle – 7 persons, 7 living cities, 7 dogs ( easy )
4) 1 course of action, 3 to 4 statement which weakens authors story ( lengthy )
5) making sequences according to example
( like step 1 , step2, step 3 ….) ( melt, 12, roap, 44, rise, dent, …. )
( easy 5 marks )
over all ibps followed last yr trend, no major changes .
except reasoning, which was easier than last yr, other sections were of the same level as of last yr. so i think cut off could be around 65 ( last yr it was 61)
All the Best guys ….
thank you Balu for sharing list- including length and difficultly level in brackets. Best wishes for result.
thanks a lot….all of u………meet today’s evening after exam……………
I attended the afternoon batch n would sum up my experience like this.
1)
General awareness.
Strictly 3 months (source of confidence and training session held by Ibps where actual paper setters give insight on the same and my o wn experience)
No doubt that the books mentioned by you are very good and helpfull mrunal but am sorry to inform cost to benefit ratio was pathetic for this exam.
More than 70% of the questions were current events and as you have mentioned in your strategy recent productsnlaunched by banks = Very very important.
With that very basic gk like capitals and currencies.
Computer knowledge
Instead of studying books if we just open the software and look through it with the help of auto wizard all types of questions can be answered.
Quantitative.
Standard questions not so easy not so tough types a guy with practise could swim through it.
Reasoning
Same tactic of giving questions which surely an expert in reasoning would take 10 mins.
1 question on seating was easy(look for that)
Rest mrunal bhai is right on track.
English.
Lengthy passages even though we had ten questions on each cost to benefit was not good if u attempt passages cuz they were not actually bachuu types.
And few questions could be solved without reading the passage.
My say:
The paper has been set to trap people with lengthy and time demanding questions.your goal must be to avoid these questions even if you are sure that you can solve them.
thanks Karan for sharing the xp, you’re right one must avoid ‘sitter’ questions in such aptitude exams.
Thank you Muruga, Girish, Ankita,Sachin, Shalini, Lalu and others for sharing the list. Best wishes for your results.
bit apprehensive abt computer section. exam due on 1st nov. thanks ALKA for throwing some light.

Hi, even if you get 100% of the answers right there is very little chance that you will fare in the final cut off. That being said, it wouldn’t hurt for you to prepare for interview. Good luck, better start preparing for the next year.
Pls try next year…….
hey dont worry, hope for the best . ur accuracy matters not how many q’s u must have thought to attempt.

Hii, Gave Paper in Afternoon, My take on exam is as follows:-
1.After Seeing Last year Paper somewhere and comparing it with yesterdays paper,The latter is Easier. Not much Calculation intensive DI set expect One.Set comprised of a Pie one,A Horizontal Bar One,A Line one. Sets were Merely Calculation based though Pie one had a little logic. This year They asked a Arithmetic and Mensuration and left aside Simplification and approximation. Quant was of moderate level and no direct formula based question asked.I could attempt only 32 but looking at last year cutoff seems suffice.
2.As far as Reasoning is concerned,70 percent was easy and conventional as seen in other papers like SBI, RRB etc.however Syllogism was tough as it had 4 statements which made it tough to analyses in short span of time. One logical puzzle about 7 friends,Seven Dogs they like and Seven Cities, One linear arrangement question and one arrangement around square type.moderate to difficult.Rest I/O question and inequalities and logical reasoning was easy.
3.Computer was very easy.
4.GK was current focussed and had latest launching of bank card schemes and tie ups.One should know the currency of different country.Rest was about Book selected in Booker prize,What does I stand for in RIDF,With which Company SBI launched Multi currency supporting card,Instrument vs derivative,No Us market instrument for borrowing,..etc.
5.English :-The passages were not easy and time consuming. The world filling one was moderate level. As i was left with only 10 min so i could do only 26 and could not look more.

John Kerry is the Secretary of State of the United States.
Princy,
Just one correction John Kerry is the US Secretary of State and not the US finance secretary. The US finance secretary is Jack Lew.
1. Hafeez Saeed is the leader of Lashkar-e-taiba and jama’at-ud-da’wah is the new name for LeT.
Jama’at-ud-da’wah was not there in the options so the correct one is LeT.
2. BCSBI is for Banks commitment to customers.
BCSBI STAND FOR BANKERS CODE STANDARD BOARD OF INDIA
This last one seems to be the set that appeared in and around Kolkata. In GK there was one question: who had acquired a personal stake in Bluestone,The bank that starts with U,Jan Dhan yojna life cover , 10 year old deposit account having no claimants are called, interest rates can be decided by banks incase of all residents or..,two-step verification required incase of credit card transactions where..,Gross Settlement in RTGS done in what manner,Limit of the RTGS/NEFT (dont recall ),EBT stands for,Basic small savings bank account has limit of 10000 INR transaction in a week/day/month..
Computer Awareness was very easy.. NOS manages the network,Linux is an operating system,MS-Word undo option,MS-DOS what kind of OS,How to create folder in Windows.
Linear arrangement was tricky,English was easy,Quant (as far as i had attempted) doable.Advisable to do one RC and just do the synonym and antonym from the other.
PPF limit extended to what amount,Plug and take out devices while comp is on is called what kind of device, printer and monitor peripheral devices.
There were many series questions in quant (total sitters),advisale to throw them out.
Data sufficiency was doable.Request to someone from Kolkata: Please add to the questions that I have already put up.
payment bank capital, wholesale bank range of operations, differential banking definition
The para jumbles was about ebola and its origins. Was easy but time consuming,Sentence correction (5 i think) was a cakewalk,Reading comprehension was on Russia’s economic hardships and the author’s opinion on it.One interesting question was the term “too big to fail”was used for which type of banks in Banking Awareness section.mrunalbhai, sorry for these many posts, jaisey jaisey yaad aa rahey hai waisey waisey likh rha hu
Hi guys….just one off the track question –
When IBPS and SBI are almost on the same lines then why cutoff in IBPS is way low as compared to SBI? Last year it may be attributed to sudden change in question paper patter, but this year also many of you are predicting it to be around the same.
bcoz in ibps 30 Lakhs people are fighting for 20K post while in Sbi 30 Lakhs people are fighting for 2K post!!!!
Hi,
Oct 11th Morning Session (9 am(actually starts by 10 am) – 12 noon), Chennai – Kundrathur (very very far from city centre)
Last year sectional cutoff was as below for GEN catg:
QA=6; Reasoning=10; English=6; Computer=7; GK=8 and Total = 61/200 was required for going to next stage.
This year, the questions (mostly covered by people ^) were tough in QA section.
My attempt
Qa=7; Reas=15;Eng=19;Comp=16;Gk=26 | Total = 83/200
I proceeded in this manner Comp > GK > QA > Reas > Eng bcoz i wanted to feel a little bit better lol. (actually better to strt with QA n finish minimum set of questions..my opinion)
comp and gk u either know or u dont know simple..try to finish them quickly..like in 20 min i.e. 60 Q/200
i am weak with QA(lack of practice also).. pie chart stuff done.. next Number series takes time so skipped..but other questions were also similar in diff/time req..quadratic stuff came..then geometry stuff
Recommendation:
Practice Mixture problems
Practice couple of Quadratic eqns
And check all questions..i could not scan all questions.. i think a minimum of 10 questions is req to be answered
Reasoning
—————-
I had prepared syllogism using MK Pandey book..so was confident..but tada..they changed the ques..they asked “which option does not definitely follow logically from given statements”.. this took some extra time…but not to worry
Still i solved 3-4. This section is easy – moderate.
Recommendation:
The condition statement were easy..target them
Data sufficiency problems easy..target them
English Section
———————–
passage easy
recommendation:
target the fill in the blanks questions..around 8 Qs..it will be done in 1.5 min
*****
Those weak in QA..nd taking this exam seriously..start prep selected topics to score & scan the questions quickly to find easy problems..and keep gk and comp at end(if u r good with them to an extent) | once you think you have cleared the sectional cutoff..then u r free to do wat u want eh?
*****
forgot to add…
ppl sitting in circle and line questions were a bit tough…u might want to skip them initially
Dude even I attempted 84/200
QA-12,REASONING-13,ENGLISH-23,COMP-13,GA-23.
Is there any chance of getting interview call… ?!
