Prologue
- IBPS had conducted online examinations for the post of Probationary officers/Management trainees throughout this October & November 2014.
- Based on the exam experience shared by the players, I have consolidated all the questions asked in different shifts and divided them section-wise so it will help all the future aspirants who are planning to attempt IBPS PO/MT in 2015.
- First and most important thing is to understand the exam-pattern: what type of questions are asked and from which book/newspaper? Then prepare accordingly. For example- SSC requires different approach than IBPS. CSAT requires different approach than IBPS and so on.
- if someone has cleared CSAT and he thinks IBPS will be a “pappu” exam, then he’ll be making a big mistake- same is true for the reverse case.
- Anyways, IBPS PO/MT online exam consist of 200 questions (each right answer=1 mark, wrong=negative 0.25)which had to be answered in 2 hours.
- There were five sections viz. Reasoning, English Language, Numerical Ability, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge.

| Sentence correction | 4-6 |
| Para jumbles | 4-6 |
#1.Reading Comprehension
Read the following passage and answer the questions below it. A few words are given in the bold form to help easy location while answering some questions.
The first of the Great Debates, between Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts and the incumbent Vice President Richard Nixon on September 26,1960, centered around domestic issues. The topic of the next debate, on October 7, was a clash over U.S. policy regarding two small islands off the Chinese coast, and on October 13, this controversy continued. On October 21, the final debate, the candidates focused on American/Cuban relations. Few of the 70 million viewers could have fathomed what this first-ever televised presidential debate augured, not only for this specific series of debates, but more importantly for the preeminent role the fledgling medium would play in the future of the political arena. A pallid Nixon arrived at the Chicago CBS studios after a gruelling day of campaigning. The previous August a knee infection had sidelined him. He was still twenty pounds underweight, and he perspired profusely in an ill-fitting shirt. Moreover, he declined makeup to burnish his hospital pallor. The freshly painted studio backdrop had dried to an ashen hue that obscured his matching suit. The Democratic contender by contrast exuded a robust glow after a month of campaigning in California. He had spent his day rehearsing potential questions and relaxing. An aide later admitted that he supplemented his natural glow with a smidge of makeup. He was fit, trim, and confident. Despite the remarkably similar agends and arguments of the Republican and the Democrat, TV viewers unequivocally believed Kennedy to be the victor – whereas people who had followed the debates on the radio held the opposite opinion. The age of TV had arrived, and the subsequent party shuffle proved the undeniable potency of television.
Q : The author is mainly concerned about which of the following?
- The debating styles of John Kennedy and Richard Nixon during the 1960 Great Debates
- The effect of television on the results of the 1960 Great Debates
- The health of Richard Nixon at the time of the 1960 Great Debates
- The number of television viewers who tuned in to the 1960 Great Debates
- None of the above
Q : According to the passage, which of the following was true of Richard Nixon?
- He had a five o’clock shadow during the first debate.
- He wore a brown suit during the first debate.
- He lost his job after the election.
- He warned of the impending Cuban crisis.
- None of the above
Q : In context of the above passage choose the word which is most similar in meaning to the given word: freshly
- Healthy
- Garnish
- Beautifully
- Recently

After a journey of over 660 million kilometres that took 10 months, India’s Mars Orbiter Mission has swept with effortless ease into orbit ___(1)__ the Red Planet, making this country the first to achieve such a feat in a maiden attempt. Probes despatched to Earth’s sibling planet over the last half a century have often run into trouble of one kind or another, with only less than half of those spacecraft ending the voyage successfully. Thus far, only the United States, the former Soviet Union and the European Space Agency have __(2)__ in doing so. India and its space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), now proudly join their ranks. Although ISRO could draw on its experience with the lunar probe, Chandrayaan-1, __(3)__ six years back, the challenges involved in sending a spacecraft all the way to Mars are far greater. That includes propelling the spacecraft with __(4)__ velocity to escape Earth’s gravitational grasp, guiding it along the proper trajectory over vast distances, and then slowing it down sufficiently to go into orbit around that planet. The spacecraft had to be capable of operating autonomously as communication signals to and from ground __(5)__ could take minutes to reach it. All of this has gone remarkably smoothly, including the orbit insertion manoeuvre with the spacecraft’s main engine, which had lain idle for almost 300 days. It is a tribute to ISRO and the professionalism of its scientists and engineers that every minute detail for such a complex mission could be attended to in the course of a project completed in just one and a half years. India’s Mars effort __(6)__ Rs.460 crore, an economical price tag by Western standards.

INPUT-OUTPUT
When an input is given to a word & number arrangement machine rearranges them following a particular rule in each step. The following is the illustration of the input and the steps of arrangement ::
Input : with the 19 2 man 17 30 to behave.
- Step I : to with the 19 2 man 17 30 behave
- Step II : to 2 with the 19 man 17 30 behave

- step VII : behave 30 with 19 the 17 man 2 to
- Step VIII : 5 30 4 19 3 17 3 2 2
- Step IX : 5-3-4 1 3-83-2-2
and step IX is the last step of the arrangement. As per rules followed in above steps, give answer to following question
If the step II of an input is,‘is 3 minute lucky 13 15 7 one of’, which of the following will be step VI?
- is 3 of 7 one 13 lucky minute 15
- is 3 of 7 one 13 lucky 15 minute

which bank’s taglined is “The bank that begins with u.”?
This is the passage they asked in English comprehension on Saturday evening . They asked meaning of persist, propensity etc
Any company that aspires to succeed in the tougher business environment of the 1990s must first resolve a basic dilemma: success in the marketplace increasingly depends on learning, yet most people don’t know how to learn. What’s more, those members of the organization that many assume to be the best at learning are, in fact, not very good at it. I am talking about the well-educated, high-powered, high-commitment professionals who occupy key leadership positions in the modern corporation.
Most companies not only have tremendous difficulty addressing this learning dilemma; they aren’t even aware that it exists. The reason: they misunderstand what learning is and how to bring it about. As a result, they tend to make two mistakes in their efforts to become a learning organization.
First, most people define learning too narrowly as mere “problem solving,” so they focus on identifying and correcting errors in the external environment. Solving problems is important. But if learning is to persist, managers and employees must also look inward. They need to reflect critically on their own behavior, identify the ways they often inadvertently contribute to the organization’s problems, and then change how they act. In particular, they must learn how the very way they go about defining and solving problems can be a source of problems in its own right.
I have coined the terms “single loop” and “double loop” learning to capture this crucial distinction. To give a simple analogy: a thermostat that automatically turns on the heat whenever the temperature in a room drops below 68 degrees is a good example of single-loop learning. A thermostat that could ask, “Why am I set at 68 degrees?” and then explore whether or not some other temperature might more economically achieve the goal of heating the room would be engaging in double-loop learning.
Highly skilled professionals are frequently very good at single-loop learning. After all, they have spent much of their lives acquiring academic credentials, mastering one or a number of intellectual disciplines, and applying those disciplines to solve real-world problems. But ironically, this very fact helps explain why professionals are often so bad at double-loop learning.
Put simply, because many professionals are almost always successful at what they do, they rarely experience failure. And because they have rarely failed, they have never learned how to learn from failure. So whenever their single-loop learning strategies go wrong, they become defensive, screen out criticism, and put the “blame” on anyone and everyone but themselves. In short, their ability to learn shuts down precisely at the moment they need it the most.
The propensity among professionals to behave defensively helps shed light on the second mistake that companies make about learning. The common assumption is that getting people to learn is largely a matter of motivation. When people have the right attitudes and commitment, learning automatically follows. So companies focus on creating new organizational structures—compensation programs, performance reviews, corporate cultures, and the like—that are designed to create motivated and committed employees.
But effective double-loop learning is not simply a function of how people feel. It is a reflection of how they think—that is, the cognitive rules or reasoning they use to design and implement their actions. Think of these rules as a kind of “master program” stored in the brain, governing all behavior. Defensive reasoning can block learning even when the individual commitment to it is high, just as a computer program with hidden bugs can produce results exactly the opposite of what its designers had planned.,,
This is the another passage they asked…
Before the crisis, the logic of nancial globalisation seemed impeccable. Businesses were increasingly operating across borders and needed banks that could travel with them. America and Britain, which excelled at nance, were anxious to market their expertise abroad. A more integrated global economy also needed a nancial system to funnel capital from countries with a surplus of savings to those with a surplus of investment opportunities. Banks had long played that role within countries, taking in deposits in one market and deploying them in another. It made sense to do the same thing across borders. Recipients of such ows beneted in other ways, too. More ecient foreign banks could force local ones to raise their game. That was why China, for example, listed its state-owned banks on stock exchanges and permitted foreigners to hold minority stakes. In short order Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, UBSand Royal Bank of Scotland took up the oer, though some of them have since sold stakes. In Europe the logic was especially powerful. The benets of asingle currency strongly suggested that there should be a single banking market as well, so that the interest rates which businesses and households paid were determined by the European Central Bank (ECB), not the relative health of their local banks. Financial globalisation did just what it was meant to, perhaps a little too well. Cross-border bank ows expanded enor4 mouslybetween 2000 and 2007, with 80% of the increase coming from Europe, according to McKinsey. Those ows enabled debtor countries such as America, Spain and Greece to nance housing booms and government decits without paying punitive interest rates. But a large part of those ows reected banks’ own leverage as they both borrowed and lent heavily abroad. Tellingly, the event that touched o the crisis in the summer of 2007 was an announcement by France’s BNPParibas that it was suspending redemptions to an investment fund heavily invested in American mortgage securities. Eventually a number of banks across Europe needed government bailouts because of losses sustained on mortgages in America and elsewhere. The cost of bailing domestic banks out of foreign misadventures exposed one risk of nancial globalisation; the losses sustained by domestic creditors and savers when foreign banks went bust showed up another. In 2008, when Landsbanki, an Icelandic bank, went bust, British and Dutch depositors had to be bailed out by their own governments because Iceland would guarantee only Icelandic deposits. Sir Mervyn King, the former governor of the Bank of England, famously commented that global banks are international in life but national in death.
But they omitted some minute fact based details here…
This is the para jumble, they asked.
But India in 2012 was similar to China in 1977 in terms of the average person’s longevity—putting India 35 years behind.
In 1991, when India kickstarted economic liberalization, the gap between the two countries was only 23 years: An Indian born that year was expected to live to be just short of 59, comparable to the average life expectancy of a Chinese person born in 1968.
Likewise, the share of the population that was undernourished was 5.6 percentage points lower in China than in India in 2012. The difference, in 1991, was less than three percentage points. But for India, it’s certainly worth considering whether simply continuing on its current path of reform and economic advancement will allow the country to make up for China’s early lead as swiftly as its hundreds of millions of malnourished, undereducated and vulnerable people require.,
in your parajumble your first sentence starts with but….is the same in the exam too????
if that so we should not suppose that sentence will not start with but???

what type of question ask in GEOMETRY?
Like finding angles or something else
Tough or easy?
No questions from geometry. Prepare DI , data sufficiency , algebra (find square roots) , simple interest and profit and loss. That will be sufficient for quantitative analysis.
Please tell me where can I get” IBPS po like” DI and seating arrangemet problems for practise??
Buy the online test series of may be test funda….it is really effective in building your speed and it also gives you your rank based on the people who have already taken that test, which really helps you gage your performance vis a vis others.

Yes certainly! But the questions in quants or maths as you named it are very lengthy. Very time consuming to read but the calculation was very simple. It was just that group questions were less and every question required lengthy reading.

attended the ibps po on 12th morning session.
exam was tough one for me.
ga-30(have negatives), comp-15, QA(maths)-12, Reasoning-15,Eng-20
I think getting par the QA cutoff will be difficult.
Reasoning and QA are time consuming.
GA-more banking related questions, need to have good knowledge and abbreviation related to banking.
Some question in current affairs is very much irritating for me..
Hafeez Saeed is the leader of which organisation?
i answered Lashkar-e-Taiba, but he is of Jama’at-ud-Da’wah…
Living in independent nation, but for getting job we not only we need to dig out the dirty terrorists but also which organaisation he belongs to..
computer-EAsy
QA- you have to avoid the time consuming questions, otherwise it will refelect the result very badly.
All the questions are standard questions, but some portions/ questions will eat the time more, so just try to avoid that.
I lost 5 miniutes for a single question, otherwise i would have scored more in QA. so be cautious. Have 4 set of charts/ graphs.
One chart will be easy one(because have only one table, others have pie chart etc and additional one table/values), so dig it out and do it first and here comes the bad effect of online exam. try to navigate all the questions by randomly clicking on question number so that you can find your comfort portion and score more.(If there is a chart with Qn no.51 then 4 qn after it will be based on that chart, so you can click on qn no.56 to check the type of question)
English-It depends upon you knowledge in the language-it contain paragraph(economy related), sentence re arrangement to form a paragraph, fill the blanks(cloze test), bold part correction to make the sentence correct, etc..
All The Best
Reasoning- It was a twist this time.
IBPS have made some minor changes in the question/ answer pattern.
minimum two puzzles(circle/square etc)
Syllogism-sure 5 question- answer is in different way. statements will be given, and 5 options will be given and you have to find the CONCLUSION THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT TRUE. and in those options we can simply cut out 2 options, from rest three need to find the one that do not follow, in that two will be with possibility conclusion.
Was there any non-verbal reasoning questions as well? What was the standard of GK questions?
How many languages contain Indian currency note, apart English and Hindi?
A.15. B.14 C.13 D.16 E. NA
15
i attempted 110 (ga 35, comp 20, eng 18, maths 21, reasoning 16). mathematics & reasoning was though. general awareness timeframe- after general election to present.
How u attempt 21 in DI can u share ur strategy ???
I Also Attempted 23 in Math….

thanks to all in advance………….
My exam was on 12th – evening session
##GA- 25 questions were easy a revision of previous 3 months current affairs might help .
##Many Financial awareness and banking awareness questions were asked
##The new name of Ing Vysya’s life insurance – Exide Life Insurance
##Card issued by railways to reduce the transaction time- Go India smart card
##The Bank operated by BRICS States – New development Bank
##Currency of Saudi Arabia – Riyal
20 questions would be a decent attempt
English – Comprehensions were a tad hard and time consuming
##Attempt the questions which ask for the synonyms and antonyms from the passage first as the words are marked in Bold it wont be time consuming and we can just skim a few lines which have the word in it and may land at answering 4 questions in 30 seconds. If time is left go for the remaining questions.
##Error corrections were easy – 10th level English
##The para jumble was also easy – it was about Ebola and its symptoms in my session.
##Cloze test was easy too.
Overall 25 questions were possible. 20 to 25 would be a decent attempt
Reasoning
##One Machine Input and output question
it had two shifts in each step. a bit time consuming
##A square table arrangement with 4 facing outwards and 4 facing inwards, with the ones sitting in the corner are facing outwards and the ones sitting in the middle of each side is facing towards the centre, also each of them belongs to a different place
The question was somewhat like this- Y sits in one corner of the table .There are two persons sitting between y and the from Kanpur . The neighbours of the person from Kanpur are not x…..
Might take 8 to 10 mins to solve this . But it is worth it because roughly 7 questions follow it.
##One linear arrangement with Persons facing North and south . This one was easy.
##Cause and effect questions
##Questions On Syllogism. 4 statement syllogisms with direct conclusions as options. None had Complimentary Pair.
The Venn diagram Approach Might save time. The UP UN PP PN method might take more time. This is what I felt.
Overall 25 Questions were possible to mark and I would consider that to be a decent Attempt.
Computer Awareness was easy every can mark more than 13 questions. Just basic level.I/o devices, Functions of hyperlink, webpage, home button etc.
Quantitative
The Sequence and series were the easiest 5 questions were asked out of which at least 4 can be answered.
one problem on time and work, one problem on ages, one on time and speed, DI was solvable but had heavy calculations similar to that of the DI in SBI po exam.
Overall 15 would be a decent Attempt in this section.
Thanks buddy.
It was really helpful.
attended 12th morning session, GA, ENG, CA were relatively easy, reasoning was moderate, quantitative apt. was a bit tough. Some of the questions i remember are as follows – from GA – YUAN is the currency of which country, HANOI is the capital of which country, hafiz mohmd sayeed is the founder of which terrorist org., who is JOHN KERRY,which of the following is wrong about RTGS(Real Time Gross Settlement), what is R in MICR, fullform of PMGSY,life cover under PM-DJY, a couple of more questions on schemes in India which i dont remember, a question on a paki cricketer who was recently banned or something- i dont remember exactly, one book – author question, a question on a recent Indian movie – finding fanny, a fixed deposit account not operated for ?? time period is called as ___ account, which of the following places has a nuclear power stations in India, a question on insurance for exp. imp. industry. this is all remember there were a few more question on day today banking terms, happenings and processes, no much scope for pure economy theory.
no question on manggalyaan, no que on defence, no que on asian games and commonwealth games, no que on recent change in central politics and new cabinet ministers, u can expect these in next slots and consistent with their previous patterns i guess they will also ask one que each on country-capital, country- currency, book – author in all of the coming slots.
Coming to CA- dead easy anyone who has a basic knowldg of comp can answer a good 15 out of 20, some que i remember- software developing companies release ___ to rectify the problem in their OS(PATCH), some people intentionally write codes to cause harm to others comp, wat is it called? (VIRUS), a light and dark coloured code which can be read optically___ ( bar code), LINUX is ___ (OS), which of the following is not a famous OS?, DEVICES such as printer, monitor connected to CPU are called ____, ___ is the smallest addressable thing on monitor(pixel), 3 questions on short cut keys in EXCEL 2007,
reasoning and english was as usual nothing much to say but aptitude was a bit different this time they have taken data inter. to the next level this time.
I had earlier posted a few questions i remembered, later some more questions flashed – 12/10/14 morning session
CA- bits to bytes conversation, which key to be pressed to make internet explorer full screen.
GA – what is REPO RATE?, where can a person look for his credit details?(CIBIL), what organisations are know as ‘too big to fail’?(SYSTEMICALLY IMPORTANT BANKS), as per RBI guidelines what is the capital for PAYMENT BANKS?, who bought e-jewellery trading bluestone recently?(RATAN TATA), who got a word of appreciation from SUPREME COURT for his contribution to bring to light @#$(maybe coalgate, i dont remember) scam recently?
