The question on ‘COUNTER EQUATORIAL CURRENT’ : Most of the institute keys says the answer is ‘Due to rotation of earth’ except VAJIRAM, where the key says answer is ‘Due to CONVERGENCE of currents’. In Class XI old NCERT of Geography: Principles of Geography book, it says “the North & South Equatorial currents cause accumulation of water in western parts disturbs the surface level and this difference in level makes the Counter Equatorial Current flow eastward”. So the closest answer should be ‘CONVERGENCE OF CURRENTS’, I think. Correct me if I am wrong.
See..after reading all the comments here and from pagalguy…itz my observation dat almost 80% those who have posted der marks is in the range of 85-98 …so i think the cut off shud fall within this range… Like 90 .. I kno the sample size m considering is too small but i think those who have posted der marks here and at pagalguy are serious candidate since they are so much concerned about their marks and have started their discussion…but since this is just a ‘ Matka’ i think those who have scored above 85 should start preparing for mains and others should also do the same since der is NO OTHER OPTION … And it will be too Early now to prepare for next prelims….in mean time optional subject can be perfected… So its high time..only 100 odd days are left for mains…so we should stop the speculations and at full thrust start preparing for mains….Best Luck all…Happy Preparing Mains to all…

According to me, cut-off will lie most probably in the range of 105-110, below 105 their is to much crowding hence don’t think cut-off will fall below it. This crowding effect going upto 110. Hence cut-off can go near about 110(107,108,109 something). Above 110 guys are 100% in, 105-110 very good chance and 100-105 moderate chances. However everyone scoring above 95 must start preparing for mains.
Anyone coming below 110 has some amount of uncertainty( even minute but it is their).

Iin pri website the objective is stated as people participation n democratic decentralisation…..

Accha to me two currents can also converge at distant places such as gulf current and Labrador current but they don’t generate counter equatorial current..
So in my view

4.introduction of gunpowder……..
Agree that there are instances of using gunpowder in the deccans in wars between vijaynagar n bahmani kingdom but they are not widely acknowledged n are disputable while use of gunpowder in first battle of panipat is a well established fact and one of the first instances known to historian…….
But upsc provides option only 3 so it is again a disputed question

3. the effect of rotation of the earth is seen in the form of coriolis force, however coriolis force is absent at the equator, hence that is never going to be the answer, convergence of two currents result in piling up of water mass , HOWEVER the presence of calm belt enables the piled up water to move in counter direction.

You have probably written prelims for the first time. Dont worry. When you write it 3-4 times, then you’d know better. See toppers’ marks in gs for past four years. It’s impossible for cutoff to be more than 95.

First I want to say that do not be frustrated guys cutt off may be 35 to 40 question correct in gs because paper was not so easy as predicted by guys lot of confusion and tricky question
this year cutoff will be around 199.99 which is tooo high for guys like u who r getting only 136…lol

2.Less equitable distribution of national income.
I think the answer should be
D) Neither 1 nor 2
Because:
->suppose a country is TAX HEAVEN, then there is a possibility of less taxes and more growth rate. Hence we can’t come to a definite conclusion.
->take the example of developing country like India. After 2008-09 crisis we have decreased taxes(stimulus measures)
but here GDP also decreased so wr can’t say any thing concrete about tax:GDP(ratio)
->to improve growth sometimes taxes are reduced
Then obviously tax:Gdp decreases, but growth rate
Increases.
Now we shall consider 2. Less equitable distribution of national
Income.
-> this is also not a definite conclusion because

Once the Civil Service Prelims get over, the immediate question in every aspirant’s mind is, what will be the cut off.
Last year many were guessing the cutoff to be 240 marks. However, finally when the UPSC released it was around 204 marks only. If we go by last year standard, then cutoff this year should be 204 divided by 2. So around 102 marks for this year. However, CSAT was also part of last year’s score and students used to score not less than 140 marks in CSAT. Therefore last year cutoff divided by 2 logic will not hold true.
Eventhough there were several easy questions in this year General Studies paper, there were also several tricky questions. Also many aspirants this year concentrated on Art & Culture(because of last year experience) during preparation. However, very few questions Culture this year. Eventhough several questions appear very easy, when we start working the key, it took hours for us to come out with the answer key even after using books and Google.
Considering all the above facts, I feel the Cut Off marks for this year for General category may atmost touch 100 marks. I dont think it will go beyond that. We are not UPSC. So it may come below 100 marks also .Those who have done reasonably well(from a good answer key), can confidently start their Mains preparation. Don’t waste next one month without reading until the UPSC results are out. Those who succeed in Mains Exam are those who start their preparation immediately after Prelims exam without waiting for the result. Start your preparation from today.

Yes dude. I m with management optional. Getting 114 in GS 1. I hope this much mark will help to cross the cutoff. But really very much scared of mains. It is really very huge n vast :(
