Navdeep Singh Suhag (4th Rank, 2012)
- I started my preparation for PET only a week before actual date as I was involved with my State PCS Mains and then Civil Services PT preparation. I have sports background so I didn’t feel much trouble in getting into shape soon
- but I would suggest other candidates to at least try all the events in a quick succession so as to stimulate the real test conditions. Otherwise, the officials present there are also very cooperative in the sense that they give time lag between events like 800mt and 100mt.
- My PET was held at Basic Training Centre of ITBP, Bhanu in Panchkula District. Ours was first batch of this recruitment. Officials were very cooperative in matters like sending few of their employees to get our documents photo stated in case one missed some.
- One important thing to be remembered is to furnish all important documents, originals, at time of PET or else you will not be allowed to undertake test.
- Take PET as test of your courage and determination rather than physical ability as it is more related to mental toughness. Here it pays more is to be determined mentally in comparison to physical preparedness. So focus on this aspect too while preparing.
Kartikeya Mishra (Rank 4, 2011)
During graduation, I worked out almost none. So the first day in field for PET preparation(20 odd days before the PET) was forgettable and I clocked about 10 minutes for 800 meters.
But I relied on muscle memory and 15 days of running (2 Km a day) brought me within the clocks. One day prior to the tests, I worked exclusively for long jump (which is toughest part of PET, because of people not knowing the technique). For non-regular sportsperson, it is mandatory not to push their bodies too far in first few days to avoid sudden injury. Fitness test is of medium toughness but it is conducted in the month of June often starting in the afternoon so it becomes a nightmare once the cloud cover is not there.
Mani Barathi (Rank 5, 2012)
- My PET was held in NISA, CISF, Hyderabad on 09/05/13. I got approximately one month time after result declaration to prepare for PET.
- Since I was an athlete from school days PET was not difficult for me. 15 days would be sufficient to fit in the requirements for an average person. 800 m and long jump are the events in which most people fail. There are lot of tips in net for long jump.
Vishal Bansal (Rank 9, 2012)
- It was the hardest part for me. Due to the very nature of preparation of civil services one hardly gets time for physical exercise. So confidence in own physical capability was surely an issue. However with the help of friends, their motivation and firm resolve, all went well.
- I used staircase running to build up stamina.
- Completing 100m sprint was always a grey area after running 800m. I never finished the line before 14 secs. Luckily at the PET, 100m sprint was the first event.
- High temperatures of summer noon and blowing air mixed with dust, drained much energy during 800m. I cleared long jump event in my last attempt. I need not mention shot-put event as no one fails in this ever.
Viplav (Rank 47, 2012)
- Before the results of written test I had never run even 500m at a stretch in my whole life , so I had to start from scratch. I focused on building my stamina by doing push-ups and running by the clock.
- PET takes place on a hot-sunny day so chances of nasal-bleeding are very high.one should keep a wet handkerchief and put it in his mouth while running.it helps in keeping the mouth moist and avoids any chances of bleeding. Do not take take rest between the events.
- While practicing alone you may not clock the required timings but don’t panic.on the PET day you are made to run with 20-30 people so your timings will automatically improve without you even realizing.
- While practicing don’t push yourself too hard, try not to get hurt before the PET.
- On the PET day keep yourself motivated every minute and don’t lose hope even for a second.
Some more
- I have been a regular member of school and college football and cricket teams so it was easy. Anybody involved in field sports would find it a cakewalk. Although I saw most aspirants failing in long jump which was merely coz of not being familiar with technique. (Dharmendra Singh Rank 25)
- I’m an avid foody. An aspirant puts up weight faster. I was 90 kg so i reduced 23 kg in 3 months. I followed salad n low fat diet. I was studying for mains . Jogging 5 km daily n dieting. It helped me get fitter and enhanced my focus. I felt better about myself and confident. Sufficient practice for 1 month can get an avg built person through. (Swachhand Chavan Rank 99)
- I had taken tips from my PET sir (School) and practiced at home for about an hour daily. It is not that hard to clear PET but one has to follow the rules of the game. While practicing remember one thing, try all the events at one time, I mean don’t take rest in between the events as it is the same on real time. (Gangavarapu Vikram Rank 137)

1st thing: form and docs
Make sure u have DAF form printout;
Ur style of signature should not change;
Originals and one copy of docs attested by a gassetted officer;
If u r not from gen category then u need to bring an annexure filled.
2ndly: the chest expansion test
Inhale as much air u can while giving reading for expanded chest.
100 m:
It depends upon the commandant how lenient or strict they r regarding timing;
Do not forget to do good amount of stretching and warm up -is most important.
800m race: maintain a moderate pace, so that u do not decelerate later.
Do not sit or pamper urself between events! Keep moving.
DOnT drink a lot of water between events, only a sip will do.
Long jump: after 800m race and hot sun on head, this is turning point of ur journey. Do practice it in the same scenario I.e. try doing long jump after a 100m and 800m race under the sun!
Maximum unfit was from it, though there were 3 chances but no relaxation on length for jump.
Shortput: its easiest but don’t forget there is no scope for error here as there is only one attempt!
Have a good gap between ur legs that u dont fall forward with the jerk while throwing.
50 candidates called
Above 40 came
Only 13 cleared the pet today.
Medical may or may not start the same day of PET.
Best of luck all, DOnT forget elimination rate for PET is much higher than interview.
Extra note: looks good when we see everyone stands up and salutes when an officer (commandant) comes in. This is what we are sheding sweat for!
Go for it!
thanks for sharing
1. is it mandatory to get attested frm gaz officer or self attst is fine?
2. how much gap between events esp btwn running and long jump
thanks alot…dear must tell Everthing abt medical 2mrw…I am worried due to some problem. ..thanks…wl w8 for ur reply 2mrw..
Medical experience: vedict- Fit.
I Dont have anything to share though,
U can’t do anything to change to verdict of medical.
Just that…bring newspaper or some book along to avoid major waste of time and boredom.
Tests list:
Blood test, urine test, chest xray,
bp test: bp in normal conditions, bp after 25 spot jumps
Eye test (very standard)
Body checks- ears check, teeth check, knock knees, Flat foot, arm angle, arm movement and others.
That’s it. Then wait for verdict for the rest of the day.
congrats.. i wanted to know how many got rejected(out of 13 from ur batch) in medical..?
for what all medical conditions the appeal can be made…?
1 got unfit because of some major problem in little finger of his hand
2 got unfit for above 10kg over weight. They will appeal.
10 got fit.
At what time did they leave you?
The medical started the same day of PET
And ended the next day by 6pm (involves alot of waiting)
Thanks bro for sharing the info :)
Further, appeal can be made for anything.
Its Up to one’s capacity to prove oneself fit in another attempt.
Details of filling appeal, u will come to know there only.
Thnx a lot keshav..
All the best for interview and final selection..
plz tell me how they are testing eye.
They are doing wt machine for every1 or only guys with spectacles
hi keshav, what does body checks involve? when do they check testicles? should we get nude for that check up?
i dont meet the condition of testis(they are not same in size), do i have any chace to get in?
in rest of all conditions am fit… am good in the events too..
Thanks for sharing
Some queries
1. Is it mandatory to get attestation from gaz officer or self attestation is fine?
2. How much time gap is given between events esp running and long jump?
Yes it is mandatory to get a sign by attested. Still if someone couldn’t so the commdant himself is a gassetted officer, they verify with ur original docs and attest it. But Dont take chances, get it done in advance.
Not even more than 5 mins of gap. Its max 5 mins.
One more thing, eat ur light breakfast by 7am so that there is no generation of gas, else it will trouble you just after 800m.
Yes it is mandatory to get them attested by a gazetted officer!
Congrats yaar…. just want to know were they lenient in 100 m race in ur group as well? if yes, how much relaxation was given?
I did it in 13-14 sec.
But when I saw for the next batch, they gave relaxation for one extra sec (17sec). Rest it depends all on mood of commandants- there were 3 commandants (of BSF, ITPB & SSB) steering the events.
so i need to bring sc certificate along with me?
@keshav
What does u meant??
If u r not from gen category then u need to bring an annexure filled…
Do I need to bring any other certificate in addition to ST certificate? ?
Plz do reply asap…. I got my PET 2moro at d same venue
Yes u need to bring.
may i know how many got rejected in 100 m in ur group?
@keshav
What does u meant??
If u r not from gen category then u need to bring an annexure filled…Do I need to bring any other certificate in addition to ST certificate? ?Plz do reply asap…. I got my PET 2moro at d same venue
No, just st certificate. After reading keshav comment, i called upsc office regarding this and they asked me to being sc certificate only as annexure is for obc candidates only. :)
Check out the notification once again, there is an annexure for OBC candidates that need to be filled.
Thanks keshav n Ankit for ur valuable suggestions…
All d best 2 both of u…
M leaving 4 PET now
Congrats Keshav!
Are they lenient in measuring chest expansion?
I am unable to expand it by 5 cm. My maximum being 4.5-4.9 cm.
Please reply.
Same problem with me :/
Congrats Keshav!
Are they lenient in measuring the chest expansion?
I am unable to expand it by 5 cm. My maximum being 4.5-4.9 cm.
Please reply.
I think u will clear it with that much of expansion. U will come to know that u are fit in chest expansion or not before ur 100/800 m race.
How before 100,800 m?
Is there anybody fro.hyd who has pet on 23rd
Plz reply me
hi keshav.my pet is on 23rd at the same place.can you tell me at what time does pet starts and condition of track on which we have to run? thnx
You reach at 8
-a booklet form is given to be filled
-documents verification and collection of a copy
– chest expansion test, height and weight test—-if u pass—u are given a chest number and 100m race starts shortly!
I remember my 800m ended at 10:13 AM
All events were over somewhere around 11am.
now it depends all upon the speed clerical staff to finish the docs work though the commandants seemed concerned about the fact that events should be over as soon as possible in the interest of candidates.
Now track and race:
Track is basically a parade ground in rectangular shape (if very curious u can see it in Google maps satellite mode or go to Youtube and search ‘ITBP day tigri camp delhi’ you can see the parade happening on the same so called track)
For 100 m, 10 candidates run together and for 800m around 20. So for 100m there were 4 groups who ran and for 800 m only 2 group. Groups allotment naturally depends upon your chest number.
In 800, try to run the shortest path, taking turn at the edge, if u follow it the 800m will automatically become 760-770m race for you.
ok thnx alot…by condition of track i just wanted to know that whether they will make us run on hard surface or clay/muddy surface..since it is a parade ground so certainly it is a hard surface.thnx fr d elaboration
PET qualified..
at 25th bsf camp,chhawala
dwarka metro>>bus for najafgarh>>bus for bsf camp
sequence:100m>>800>>long jump>>shotput
break between events:2-3 min
make sure to bring all your>> original marksheets+photocopies+DAF+OBC FORM
special note:bring your 10th passing certificate otherwise they will give u another date…
congrats… :) … may i know which event had d max rejection rate? and also how flexible were those guys regarding timing in 100 m timings in ur pet? were they lenient enough to give one extra sec(17secs) in 100m?
Max rejection rate long jump.. Be ready for exact time …
thanks nishant…still stuck with medical..BSF doesn’t conduct medical at its camp, they will send you to either at jhroda kala or itbp tigri..
leniency depends on their mood..on 20th they selected guys who completed in 17 sec also..but on 21st they rejected at 16.34sec..but sometimes it depends on the position at which one’s end up the race n the kind of physic you have..like suppose you end up last n its 16.6sec then they will surely reject you bt if you don’t appear bulky then they do ignore the extra second..but dont loose hope just try to maintain your rhythm till the end..best of luck
In 800m race how many groups were there? Are they divided in the groups ? how many were present and how many cleared it?
Congrats Amit! Can u tell me how were the female candidates performing on your PET day? What according to you was the rejection rate for female candidates? were they nailing 800m on time?
thanks usha…there was one girl at my camp at bsf….the officials were very supportive of girl..they ignored the extra time taken by the girl(100~19 or 20 min)..she completed 800 m but not within required timeframe. they gave extra attempt for long jump bt she was not able to jump so they had to disqualify her finally..there was one another girl at jhroda kala camp n she completed everything within required parameter..best of luck!!
Thanks Amit..! Its good to know that they are actually supporting female candidates. M goin tomorrow for the PET at ITBP Camp Tigri. Fingers crossed.
I wanted to ask… whether dey disqualify female candidates if dey jump on exact 3 m line…as last shoe imprint is lil behind d line??thanks in advance… Usha kiran all d very best.. wen in ur pet?? Mine on 27 bsf najafgarh
They are quite lenient when it comes to female candidates, so if you are stepping on the line of 3m, they ll mostly let you pass!!!
Thanks a lot….
Amit bhayya . I didn’t filled my annexure form . I belongs to obc . I have old obc certificate. Is it valid or not. Plz mes me
a doubt regarding mark sheets, in our state they provide us only marksheets not the passing certificate for 10th standard, is it mandatory.

Any relaxation on weight??
There is a chart in the notification as u may know, there is around 5% relaxation on that no doubt. As observed at base hospital itbp tigri camp.

you can find your call letter here
Anyone completed medical at hyd? How long did it take?
My experience at CRPF Camp, Jharoda Kalan, New Delhi.
Authorities: Co-operative and motivating!
Result: Committed two minor fouls in the long jump (though jumped more than 3.7 m, in each:(), hence not qualified:(.
100 m: Easy, Do warm up otherwise may get cramp, drink a few sips water
800 m: Test of your courage and determination (also stamina!). Don’t stop in between. If you stop, then not for more than 5-10 seconds.
Long Jump: They say, depends on practice. While practice, in the last few days, I rarely committed foul and always jumped more than 3.6 m. So, work on technique and try to jump more than 3.8 m, so that you never touch the line while you cross 3.5 m.
Those who have their PET after 26th may try all the events simultaneously because they hardly gave any break. Maximum 5 min. After 800 m it seems that you cannot even move. Practice at 10-11 am beneath the sun.
I hope this helps.
track length? 300m or 400m?
hi
are they taking the pet on the parade track (road) or the newly built ground?
track length = 400m and pet is held in sports ground (new ground)…
any place to practice long jump in Delhi? my pet is on 28 tigri camp.
Dude I am in Delhi Karol Bagh. Can you please tell me which metro line is use to reach there asap.
Go to Dwaraka Mor and from there get an auto to either directly to jharoda kalan or else go to najafgarh and from there to jharoda kalan….
I got a “re-medical” yesterday due to a tattoo and have been asked to file the review notice in 15 days. I am planing to remove the permanent tattoo now. Can some one help me in answering –
1. When does the re-medical actually takes place?
2. Would I be allowed in interview along with others (who cleared the medical in the first attempt) or my selection procedure will be delayed?
3. Even if interview is delayed, do they accommodate re-medical guys in the final selection list or would re-medical guys be pushed to next year’s list?
the sooner you get your tattoo removed the better, re-medical will take place in a months time.
the interview list will be prepared after all the re-medicals are done! so no worries there!
Pet over at pune but they dint take my obc anneure ..they said its not needed
After selection in CAPF,Will they allow me to appear in the
UPSC-Civil Service Examination in future?
m flat footed.. my physical is on 28th….i dunno whether shud i go or not…it isnt even partial…its a total flat foot…..suggestions please
try this and see how flat it actually is!
put both feet in the water and then walk on a dry surface, if you see the arch of the feet not getting imprinted on the surface then i think you are good to go!
Didn’t get u. Do u mean to say if there’s arched foot print it implies flat foot? I think its other way round
i said if the arch is” not getting “printed then that means the whole of foot is not touching the surface meaning no flat foot!!!
