Many a times, sincere candidates fail in Government job exams because
- Relying on readymade guidebooks by “jholachhap publication”.
- They underestimate the level of competition and hence their preparation is not upto the mark. [although personally they may be believing that they’ve studied hard.]
Know that whether it is IAS exam or Bank clerk’s exam, competition is always tough and life is always cruel [thanks to our population]. Hence, The only way to make life easier, is studying harder and harder.
Readymade guidebooks for ACIO exam
As I keep saying: DONOT USE any readymade book such as “ACIO/APFC/CPF guidebook by XYZ bogus publisher. ”
Reasons:
- They merely copy paste few chapters from here and there, donot provide you comprehensive information / theory on any topic.
- Secondly, many candidates simultaneously prepare for SSC, LIC, CPF, IBPS and similar exams, so they’re really good both in GK as well as aptitude. You prepare from some ‘jholaachhap” book then you loose in the competition.
How to approach the Objective paper of ACIO exam?
I’m grateful to the good friend CSL180 for providing the inputs on previous papers of ACIO exam.
From the previous trend, it seems ACIO is more about GK than GS.
Difference between GK and GS
| General Knowledge | General Studies |
| Kaun banega crorepati kinda things. Mere knowledge of facts. “Who, Where and When” type of questions. | encompassing much more than GK, deals with important things of life- science, Constitution, History – why this and why that – so you need not only the knowledge of facts but understanding of events. |
| Who invented Telescope? | How does Telescope work? |
- In, CPF (assistant commandant) or UPSC (IAS/IPS etc.)- the questions are less related to GK and more related to GS.
- Usually the Class I and II officers’ recruitment exams have more GS than GK but for god knows why, ACIO paper almost entirely made up of GK questions only.
- For example “NABARD was setup under which five year plan?”,
- “OPEC was established in which year?”
- May be because ACIO exam isn’t conducted by UPSC and the Old professors who setup the ACIO papers, haven’t grown out of the 90s era yet.
- Anyhow, the moral of the story is, you shouldn’t prepare for ACIO exam, the same way you prepare for UPSC, CPF or APFC. This one requires similar books but different approach.

The NCERTs contain GK information scattered throughout their chapters, Besides they’ve colorful photos and text, so they’re interesting to read.

Aptitude and English
The trivial GK is limitless, but brain’s memory has limits, so how do you improve your score?
Obviously, you’ve to score huge in English Grammar and Aptitude.
There are aspirants in this “competition business” for 2-3 years, trying for Bank, LIC, CPF, SSC and similar jobs, and they’ve impeccable command over English grammar/Reading comprehension and aptitude.
So if you make any excuse ki “meraa English thik nahi hai” or “meraa maths kamjor hai”, then you’re digging your own grave. Toppers donot fall from sky, they’re among you, but they’re just studying harder and not wasting time in giving such excuses or doing cut off speculation. So, If your maths/english is not good, then study hard and improve it. Know that every master was once an amateur.
English Grammar and Vocabulary
Sentence correction, Sentence arrangement, Reading comprehension, synonym, antonym, fill in the blanks etc.etc.etc.

Aptitude
Since you’ve applied for ACIO exam, I assume that your end goal is Government job of some kind.
So even if you fail in ACIO, you’d continue pursuing similar competitive exams such as IBPS, SSC, LIC, CPF etc.Therefore, I would suggest the aptitude books that can be used for all such exams.

For ACIO exam, prepare upto level 1 exercises only from each each chapter. Ideally you should do all the sums from all the chapters, Including the Non-Verbal portion i.e. figure based questions.
And most importantly, no one can master aptitude by reading the solved sums alone. You’ve calculate them by your hand. |
Sidenote:
- If you’re running out of time, you may use IBPS Manual by Disha Publication
instead of the book #1 and Book #2 given above. But that’s like firefighting and such shortcuts are luck dependent, hence should not be used in normal case.
Essay
The ACIO 2012’s notification specifically mentions that
ACIO-II/Exe contains two papers namely
Paper I (Objective type) and
Paper II (Descriptive type on English language only).
The total duration for both the Papers is 1 hour and 40 minutes.
- It means you’ll have to write Essay in English (Paper II).
So how to approach this essay?

This book has around 100 essays on various themes and topics, so you get enough fodder material for writing essays on conventional topics.
Apart from that daily newspaper reading: Either The Hindu or Indian Express.

that guy called for 2nd batch or 3rd ??????
any IDEA ABOUT THE TRAINING LETTER FOR THE THIRD BATCH…?
I will giv u first hand info about experience in IB for an ACIO-II.
1. your initial training in Shivpuri will be mostly physical. running for 1.5 KMS in the morning, followed by 2 hours of exercise. then “classes”-totally useless 5th standard stuff taught. Utterly useless. Again, exercise in the evening and bed by 10.30PM. This is for 2 months in Shivpuri.
Salary in hand: 20,000/- to 25000/-. Good news is, most of your salary will stay in your bank account as you will not have to spend on anything except food (mess fees- 5 thousand per month). save this money, it will be useful if you want to pay the bond amount and leave in the first few months of job posting. You will more or less enjoy this period of training and make good friends. For UPSC candidates, bad news. NO TIME TO STUDY AT ALL!!! NOT EVEN 30 minutes per day!
2. Second training in Delhi. Theory classes from morning till evening. NO PHYSICAL TRAINING. Some lectures by IPS officers are worth listening to, rest are crap. You will be allowed to roam around in Delhi in the evening. This is for 2 months also. UPSC candidates, here also, no time to study.
salary in hand: same as in shivpuri( 20 – 25 thousand). you will enjoy this period of training too, have fun with friends you have made in Shivpuri. But sadly, you will not have any more fun in IB for 3 MORE YEARS.
now getting to the SERIOUS STAGE. This stage will teach you a lot about yourself. You will go through some seriously tough circumstances.
Enough build-up, here it is-
3. FIRST JOB POSTING: 99% border area, (kashmir or northEast).
superiors are arrogant, subordinates are kaam-chors. You will be given accomodation in police quarters. Kashmiri people are very hostile. there is danger at work, but nothing to be scared of as long as you dont do anything STUPID. you will have to go and collect info from people whenever your superior (DCIO) asks you to. He might make your life difficult. You WILL be very lonely. You will have no friends to help you, no one to care about you. noone will teach you how to collect info. you will have to learn on your own. you will feel that your work is useless. You will have ZERO power. Even police constable will have 10 times more power than you. Aap bas naam ke hi “OFFICER” honge. You will be not be given ANY important work. you will feel useless No desh seva and all. Saari desh Bhakti tusssssss ho jaayegi, aur aap bologe, “mujhe iss jungle se bachaao!!”. But good thing is, noone will punish you if you are unable to collect info. You WILL be yelled at by your superior, but he CANNOT do anything more. DONT DO ANYTHING STUPID THERE. YOU MAY DIE. the police and army people will know who you are (IB guy) and they WILL NOT cooperate with you. You will go through hell. Most of the time, you will not know what to do. On the bright side, you will not have too much work. You will have time to study. But most probably, you will be so depressed that you WILL NOT be able to study. This will go on for 3 years. 80 – 90 % of people pay the bond amount (60,000 rupees) and quit before the first year, Good thing is, IB will not create problems if you want to leave. you can even quit one month after your job posting if you find it difficult. No one can stop you from leaving your job, so dont worry. Just keep the bond amount (60,000/-) ready. Also, NOC certificate to write other exams will be given without much problem. you will have to write a letter to your boss. He will have to compulsorily give permission within 15 days. but permission will be given only if the job you are applying for is of higher pay grade than ACIO-II, i.e 4,200/-.
Salary: 30 – 32 thousand.
4. If you survive the 3 years IN HELL, you will be given the actual IB training. James Bond ishtyle!! Your job will 90% be in your home state. you will do ACTUAL IB work. chasing terrorists, keeping country safe and things like that.

hey deepak thanks a lot for such useful info. i think every job has its own pros and cons. its common when your superior or seniors yelled at you cuz thats the only way then can show they are superior and it happens in every field whether it software, telecom, management etc. so its not matter of concern.
you are right kashmiri are hostile. only main concern is how to collect info and i guess time will teach us.
right now my concern is appointment letter. i am eagerly waiting for it.
Hey pirate, you’re absolutely right. All Bosses are creatures from hell :D but sarkari bosses toh hell ke headmaster hain! ;) and DCIOs are no different. My intention is to give my dear fresh ACIOs as much info as i am legally allowed to, so that
1) they can come in mentally prepared and know what to expect.
2)they know their rights and strengths. (regarding leaving job, getting No Objection Certificates to write other exams etc.) bcoz no one will tell them these later on.
I do this bcoz no one gave me this info when i joined and i faced difficulties.

Im not in recruitment wing, so i dont know exactly. But every two months, 120 people are called. Nxt batch might be in aug-sept. U hav to wait a lot, its frustrating that way. i know ppl who got offer letter 2yrs after interview. Use this time to write other exams. Check out notification for FCI and RBI officer exams right now. They are bettet than IB acio. Dont depend FULLY on IB letter. Khud ke kaabiliyat pe bharosa karo, ib ke letter se zyaada.

many ppl posed Acio job profile as the most dangerous,heinous and low life type,but i would like to express my concerns for aspirants of govt job. lets say ppl who want to be IAS must know that it is very dangerous job you may get abducted by naxalites or IT ppl may raid ur house or any NETA can squeal you for not being in accordance ……….
so the point is all the jobs on this planet have some pros and cons but the thing is sarkari job is still matter of social recognition and money rather than interest and hobby.
so ppl who got seleced as AcIO dont feel bad or low for so called job profile posted by mr deepak ji aleast he highlighted most probable dangers available onsite
keep posting and prepare for UPSC

I’m not discouraging anyone from joining. I’m trying to give ppl an idea of what lies ahead so that they are not overwhelmed later. If some guy who lives in a fantasy of johnny depps and james bonds cant digest it, not my prob, and my dear, fresh ACIO, not your prob. You have useful info about IB job, plan accordingly. In fact i want this “jack sparrow” to join just to see how he handles dealing with mujahideens 24×7, day in and day out. Rest of you who live in reality will survive. Just be mentally prepared.

Im still in service. And you will have about 4 hours of physical exercise everyday. 2 hr morning, 2 hour evening. Nothing too difficult. you need to be fit enough to run 1.5 kms.

Dont worry about medical tests, theyre just for namesake. Ur offer letter will have info in detail. But if u hav a serious condition like asthma, heart problem or low/high bp etc. Get test done PROPERLY and tell IB about it when they ask u. Because during posting in border area, medical help may not be readily available.

I told them all these apprehansions they realy cooperated me and told me that nothing is dangerous and even guy who came cracked ICS 2012 pre exam during job. he was an ACIO 2.
secondly some ppl who are not selected in IB even after interview posted a fake kind of picture of IB so that selected ppl will leave and they will get a chance in waiting list
and believe me i dont live in fantacy world and i will do IB work 24×7 and 365 days.

My intention is to give new recruits a complete picture. I hav seen ppl coming in wid high expectations only to end up disappointed. You can notice that i hav given both positives and negatives. Although, i admit, negatives seem more in number. Like i said, after posting, ull hav ample free time, but in a difficult situation, its difficult to enter a studious mindset. But serious candidates will clear upsc even in such situations. I gave that picture from an average candidate viewpoint.

Dear Deepak Sir,Thanks from the bottom of my heart for your invaluable information…..cannot agree with you more that the real world is much different than the fantasy world…however I have a few questions for you if you don’t mind to answer….
1. I am going to get married soon…may be after the completion of the training…will it be possible for me to carry my wife to the place of posting..Or will it be dangerous for her
2. Will I be allowed to sit in SSC exam next year for the posts of Inspector Central Excise/SI in CBI etc.
3. You are planning to leave IB after three years…May we know what kind of job will you be applying for after leaving… if you can share..
Hopefully waiting for your reply as it may help us tremendously to plan our future accordingly…

Is it? That must be for acio-1. Coz acio 2 recruited from any method go thru the same training n have the same pay grade. Ill see if i can get more info on this.

Are you satisfied with it?
In a way, its satisfying. Pay is ok, work is ok, frustrating at times, but still manageable. Not much social life, real life “Tiger” has no time for Katrina. He is not “Ek THA” but “Ek HI Tiger”. Work environment is not what u expect from an intelligence org. It is as ineffecient as any sarkari office, if not more. But still it is successful ONLY because of max 10% dedicated officers at lower level (Acio) and higher level (IPS). Desh par prem is slightly less than Army, but 100 times more than Police. Zero tolerance towards terrorism. You’ll learn when u join. As of now, no plans to leave. But i dont see myself continuing more than 3yrs.

its not army or air force. its IB, a police job. medical aur baaki sab test bas naam ke hi hain. and I can confidently say this,
IF YOU HAVE CLEARED THE INTERVIEW,
IF YOU HAVE BEEN VERIFIED 2 TIMES (oce by IB and once by police),
IF YOU HAVE NOT FURNISHED FAKE DOCUMENTS,
IF YOU HAVE NOT GONE TO JAIL,
YOU ARE ALREADY AN IB OFFICER.
so relax everybody. letter will come, sooner or later.

oh, assistant is entirely different. non executive grade. office job mostly. i have only basic info about ssc. have never written the exam. cant help much there.
through SSC they selected assistants for that no physical training required and they are not entitled for extra 25% pay which is given to ACIO-2 and they are also not involved in spying activities.9to type of work for assistants…

*while filling t ssc post preference i filled all t posts (so post of statistics off. and compiler were 2 filled) –
now tier 1 will b cleared but in tier 2 i am prepared only 4 english and maths that is paper 1 and paper 2 because i don’t know any statistics ie. paper 3..
*so i am troubled incase in my admit card for tier 2 paper 3 is also mentioned, then how to get rid of it ?

i am not sure but may be if doc declare you temporary unfit and give you 2months for recovery , surgery, or anything. cuz its happen in many govt job where candidate joins after couple of months due to medical unfit reason . one case i heard about last yr batch in which hospital gave medical test dates after joining date so due to his medical wasnt done, he gave letter to IB about this situation and they give him appointment letter for next batch.
its really very frustrating… ab to yar ghrwale b shaq krne lge h ki iska selection hua b h ya nhi… atleast IB walo ko itna to bta dena chahiye ki kb joining denge… chahe 1-2 sal bad de…

1 batch ki capacity avg 150 logo ki hoti hai or har teen mahine ke bad nya batch join karya jata hai is liye kuch time lag sakta hai.
every new batch start after max. 75days. thats what i noticed from last year and this batch joining dates.

You should wait. ACIO 2013 will take another 1 and half year to get posting. You will get ACIO 2012 posting soon.

Guess the results had been published long back and even onboarding of successful candidates are over.I would suggest you to check with MHA helpline.
sarna krish – they have not published it yet.. how can u say they have announced it ?? do they publish whole list of result on net or they just mail to candidates who are selected???
So. THEY DIDN’T PUBLICE IT ON WEBSITE……BECAUSE THERE IS A GROUP ON FACEBOOK WHERE ALMOST 25 CANDIDATE QULIFIED IN WRITTEN EXAM ARE THERE…NO ONE GET ANY MAIL OR SMS…HOW IT IS POSSIBLE ATLEAST ONE OF THEM SHOULD BE QUALIFIED, IF MAIL OR SMS ARE SENT TO SELECTED CANDIDATE…..
IB interview results are generally published within 1 MONTH of interview.
IB DOES NOT send mail to successful candidates. It only puts up the list of selected candidates on the MHA site in a PDF.
My advice is to enquire through phone in the SSIB where your interview took place.
Deepak Sir how can we enquire about this delay in results?? can u give phone number through which we can contact ib about delay in result.. its been 3 months now since the interview. plz Sir tell me what we can do??
Sir i am also in the same situation….i called there in Delhi office of ib,,,they said is year result as jayega,,,,i mean aisa kyo ho raha hai? Kya woh aacio tech/wt ka pura exam cancel ho Gaya kya? Hamare interview ka kya Hua,,,Maine job b chod d apni,,,plz suggest,,,where can i find some info Ki interview ka result aayega b ya nai
i also called IB delhi on 19/sep/2013 .. they said result will come in maximum 10 or 12 days..

I have been selected for acio 2 last year in general categ , belongs to Andhra Pradesh(Visak hapatnam).My ib verification was completed in april 2013 but not police ,I could not get training letter till now.I suspect as i wrote i had membership in national youth congress in interview form , also this question was also asked in interview ,i replied,pls tell me deepak sir when could i get my traing letter, i join IB with interest and choice , i am about to complete my Ph D through CSIR NET JRF(getting 25000 per mon, india s highest science fellowship.)

Till now no verification of them has done and no letter till today.

dear even if result is declared it takes many months for joining so if you have sum good plans go ahead prepare for other govt jobs crack some good one .

your situation seems to be very serious.
i have a suggestion. may not work 100%, but might work 70%.
you could write a letter to the Joint director of the SIB where your interview took place telling him that your VERIFICATION IS COMPLETE, and asking him if you can work at the SIB till your letter comes. I have heard that it is possible.

can i take my spouse at place where i’d be posted after training ??

dear deepak m selected in 2012. can during our training we get leave for 6-7 days as i need for mains 2013.
No problem. You can easily get leave to write other exams during training and also during job posting.

@ manoj bhai tum to zyada hi talented ho. Phd chodi, IES ka interview or ab IAS ka mains. ek bar soch lena jo bhi karo.

One in my network told me altogether different story(he is in job). nobody in IB knows about initial posting and criteria for that posting some got Mumbai as there 1st in earlier years selections.
