[Result] UPSC CSE Mains 2012 result is out, interviews start from 4th March

first of all: sorry for non-functional site for last few days (403 permission denied, 500 internal server errors etc.etc.etc.)
Server had been crashing down due to heavy traffic. UPSC is the main villain behind it because they’re not releasing notification (for next prelims) and their own site goes offline randomly, so all that traffic and queries divert to other sites dealing with UPSC = excessive load on server.

Anyways, Now I’ve ditched the old company and shifted to a more powerful server. Let’s hope site will work smoothly from nowonwards.

Coming to the subject of the article, UPSC declared the result of Civil Service Mains 2012. Around 2600 candidates have been called for the third and last stage (interview).

Those who passed, congratulations. Do participate in the interview discussions going on the forum (click me)
Those who failed, my best wishes and prayers for your next attempt (or whatever other career-backplan you’re executing).

Interview will start from 4^th March 2013.
Those who have qualified for interview stage, UPSC will individually contact them.
The candidates who do not receive communication regarding their Personality Test, should immediately contact the office of the Commission through letter or on Phone Nos. 011-23385271, 011-23381125, 011-23098543 or Fax No. 011-23387310,011-23384472.
The candidates are advised to notify changes in their address, if any, to the Commission immediately through letter or Fax at Telephone numbers indicated above.
The date and time of interview of candidates will be displayed on the Commission’s Website http://www.upsc.gov.in.
The mark-sheets of candidates who have not qualified, will be put on the Commission’s Website within 15 days from the date of publication of the final result (after conducting Interviews) and will remain available on the Website for a period of 60 days.

      I compltly agree with the above comment….come on gys this is just an exam with its own limitations,upsc is just an organisation run by fallible human beings,lot of factors play a critical role …so gv your 110 percnt for dis exam till your last attempt with a single minded devotion n determination of clearing this exam in ur very first attempt,but in case if you miss the bus dont make it a question of life and death……IS EXAM MEIN SAFAL HONA AAPKI YOGYTA KI NISHANI HO SAKTI HAI PAR ASAFAL HONA APKI AYOGYATA KI NISHANI BILKUL NAHI HAI…..and for all those cynical souls who might think this reply to b coming frm a frustrated attempt-exhausted soul….my reply in advance…i m very much in d game with very much fire and determination but dis fire within me also teaches me that…..INSAAN KA KAD EK EXAM KA MAUHTAJ NAHI HAI…. may god bless all of us.

  Its not so difficult Niraj. In fact English is very easy to learn when you apply it. There are few ways by which you can sharpen your english skills,
  1) Read a Lot! Do read news papers (even novels) regularly (esp editorials)and write down the hard words (vocabu;ayou find with their meaning.
  2) Watch english news channels and movies(with subtitiles)
  3) Converse in english wherever possible. Try to develop your own style of conversing.
  4) Take up a question and try to give your answer it in english by building up sentences and using hard words.
  Try these and I am sure you will be able to develop your english in few months. All the very best.

    You have really given some valuable suggestions but 2nd one having a bit flaw. For a person who wants to start a fresh I won’t ever suggest to watch English movies. Reason being the accent. Most of the movies we watch have American accent which at times have different way of writing words. E.g “aeroplane” in UK has same meaning as “airplane” in US
    In India we follow UK accent.

      @Nik it does not hold anymore(UK accent part). first-we speak Indian English (checkout wiki.);and if we don’t then we should.second-you will have to accommodate these differences in order to learn a new/known language.i was, throughout, a Hindi medium student(Sitapur,UP), but i had a zeal for English(&Hindi too); so i learnt it(&still learning). During the course of learning i found out that language, be it English or Mandarin(now learning), is not just about some petty words; it is a part of a broader cultural current. You can’t master a language without understanding its contexts, styles, phrases and so on which ,in turn, are shaped by its culture(s):historical or concurrent.Niraj should try all the suggestions and device some of his/her own;Innovation is always euphoric.I didn’t give up; believe you would not too.Work hard.Don’t try to mug a language up as it will not help for long;Understanding it will do.Try ‘Word-Power-Made-Easy’ by Norman Lewis-its funny &profound (plus UPSC is in love with its part on dictionary in NDA, CDSE etc.).Ask whenever you need help.I’ll appear in ’14.Started already. mrunal.org is very helpful.Best CPF(AC)-solution-paper so far on net.thank you for You still have IT in you.

        You have certainly come out of all odds, its appreciable and will boost others as well. My friend, this accent part is important because we write what we speak. If this gentleman is preparing for UPSC, his every small step will count because those who will be evaluating his copies and taking interviews are those who like English to be in its old form and not the slang form. That was the only reason why I suggested him. Rest depends upon him.

  Ahswin ji k suggestions me thoda add karta hun main:-
  
  1. Jab bhi aap pade, zor zor se pade. Itna to hona he chaheye ki agle kamre se awaz aaye “bhai thodi dheere bol le” :p
  2. Acchi English bolne k liye aapne English me sochna shuru karna padega. Sab se badi galti jo shuruwaat se hoti hai wo yahi hai. Hum apni native language me sochte hai aur uske baad usko translate karte hai English me. Is se badya hai ki aap English me he soche. Ho sakta hai galtiya hongi shuru me lekin aage chal kar benefit bahut hoga
  3. Agar facebook use karte ho ya SMS language use karte ho, to short language use karna band kar do.
  4. Last but not the least “practice is the key”

I read in Hindustan Times that the civil services (main) examination pattern may change,but in all the other papers, to my limited knowledge, there is no such news. They (HT) even use this idea on the pretext that the notification has been delayed,hence there is high chance of syllabus change. any idea about the change in syllabus?thank you

Change in the mains pattern is inevitable.
But,as far as the change is concerned this year,I do not think UPSC will be dat tough on the aspirants for 2013-2014 .
So,change will be applicable for the one who r aspiring to appear in 2014.

Mrunal Sir left the game in 2010, but UPSC definitely lost one of the best would have been administrators. Every post of Mrunal speaks of his brilliance. Anyways the truth has been reiterated so many times but I would still say it again that a single exam cannot decide a person’s caliber. After all so many factors are involved in it. But Mrunal sir is doing a great job by helping other candidates through his notes and posts. Really I mean no one could have explained economics more easily than Mrunal Sir. Hats off to you. Keep up the great work

If there had been no pattern change then why this kolaveri D (delay)? Upsc should have come out with notification for this year and to notify the change for 2014 upsc can come up with other notification at any latter date upto 2014. Anjani bhai think logical.

i am preparing for 2013 civil service i have been working hard day n nite.i go thro interviews all tat stuff the most irritating thing for me is tat most of these toppers either cme from top medical or engrr colleges gold medalists all tat stuff.genuinely upper middle class ppl.bt i dnt cme from such a flock.i am a typical middle class family guy who jus finished my degree the month ends from 25 to 30 are bit tuff days for our family.wat do have for us any words of advice.i mean its so frustrating to see these hifi ppl.b4 them i luk weak.it is true there are ppl poor who got thro these xams.bt they are rarest of rare cases. disclaimer:its not inferiority complex its rather a frustration “has civil service become a upper middle class affair”.

  Success in UPSC is an individual’s achievement. There are many toppers not from the med/engg. field. Check page 108 of this PDF file:

Failed second time. It seems cut off marks was not lowered (or might have been raised!). I can’t do better than this attempt. Sample answers from UPSC would be a great help to analyze what I am lacking. I got 100 in essay in 2011 so probably can’t be my writing skills. Mark sheets of unsuccessful candidates should be displayed immediately after the mains result so that people like me can decide whether to appear in 2013 exam or not.
