- The written test of SBI PO was held on 28.04.2013. Now, SBI has released the list of successful candidates. (Unlike UPSC which takes months to declare any result.)
- The roll numbers of successful candidates, available on in this PDF (click me to Download)
- Congratulations to those who passed.
- Those who could not make it in the list: there is more to life than just one exam so, don’t be a Devdas, prepare for the next competition exam and or whatever other career backup plans that you have.
- 18th June 2013: from this day, successful candidates can download their Call Letter and Bio-data Format.
- 3rd July 2013: from this day, The Phase II (Group discussion and personal interview) will start.
Importance of GDPI?
As per notification,
- your written marks (out of 250) are converted to out of 75
- and marks secured in Group Discussion & Interview (out of 50 marks maximum) are converted to out of 25.
- The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and Group Discussion & Interview out of 100 for each category.
- =As we can see, Written weightage =3/4th and GDPI weightage is just 1/4th.
But ^that should not lead to any laziness on GDPI preparation because notification further says:
- The qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview will be as decided by the Bank.
- The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-I and Phase-II separately.

hi mrunal… just wanted to know whether the call for interview is based on the marks that one has scored in the written? or is it random… because even though SBI had said that there would be three people called for every post… only 3000 people have been called that is 1 : 2…

Hi Guys,
I had my Interview on 6th July,at Bangalore.
The topic for my GD was: Should India be divided further into smaller states for better administration and governance?
Since I was the lone candidate who opposed further division, I was asked questions on my views on the above topic, during my interview too.
Then, as I had mentioned my hobby as Reading about Indian National Movement,Travelling and Exploring Places, and also Current affairs, so the Interviews fired their questions on the above topics only.
I was asked About:
National Anthem
National Song
National Emblem
Difference between Khajuraho temples and Konark Temple
GreenHouse Effect
Rajendra Pachauri and IPCC
Change of leadership in Pakistan and it’s impact on India
How can we make administration and governance better in large states, if division is not a feasible option.
Why do I want to leave my current job (I am a Senior software engineer with Infosys Limited)
Quit India Movement
Women President of INC, pre-independece
Kargil war, Vijay Diwas
Nobel Prize
Magsaysay Award
Mohd. Younis (Nobel prize winner from Bangladesh)
Difference between NEFT and RTGS
Difference between Cheque and DD
Cause of rupee downfall
thanks for your input Abhishek

OBC candidates without community certificate were not allowed to attend gd / pi .
Their session was rescheduled to 11th. So friends please take all the required materials.
All the very best :-)
thank you for sharing this.
Centre: Bangalore
Date: 8 July 2013, 08:00AM
1)Verification till 9:45AM. If you dont have character certificate, you have to give a letter that you shall submit it later. Verification certification is a must. There is a provision to get your GD/PI rescheduled.
12 candidates at a time. In my slot 10 were present.
2)We were taken to a wonderful conference hall at 10:00AM.
4 senior employees of the bank(may be AGM and above, and close to retirement), 1 chairman and 3 panel member sat to monitor GD. 3 Tamilians and 1 North Indian. As I heard the panelist were not from Bangalore and were here for the sake of interviews.
Topic: Is increasing car production boon or bane?
We were told anyone can start but the discussion should follow in an order(clockwise or anticlockwise). Each could speak for 2 minutes first, then a minute each if necessary.
Most points were exhausted by earlier speakers. The chairman didnt seem to be much interested in the second round of discussion. Not all could speak the second time as the chairman wanted to wind up the discussion. Actually discussion was beginning to happen in the second round, as the first round was plain talk. Discussion lasted less than 25 mins.
3)Interview
15 minutes per candidate
a) Chairman begins. Scans your biodata. Few question like why engineering to banking, father/mother. I was asked to elaborate on a point in GD that he didnt agree.
b) Member 1: asked on GK, mostly about your state – some historical places, army chief, first woman head of UN, first woman High Court Chief Justice, etc
c) Member 2: Banking questions – what is banking assurance, money laundering, tax havens, cobragate, fringe tax benefits
d) Member 3: Economics – Consolidated fund of India
Nothing like the usual campus placement and HR stuff. Generation gap I guess!
Overall the experience was pleasant. We were served coffee, water and given a food coupon to have lunch after the interview in a hotel in MG Road. The staff were friendly. But I was cautioned that the first few years will be tough. Probation period will be hectic, moving frequently to different places to get as much experience as possible. After that mostly we will be given rural posting and independent charge of bank. If we qualify an exam after 2 years, we will be promoted quickly to Scale-2.
To Add…
All wore formal dress. Few of us wore ties. Only one had an overcoat. Only one female candidate, that means a pathetic sex ratio of 1:9.
To Add
The Chairman was Hariharan, who seems to be retired Deputy Managing Director of SBI http://in.linkedin.com/pub/sk-hariharan/23/293/722
thanks, that was helpful and best of luck.

Thanks a ton.. Great job!!
Hi friends
i had my interview on 8th july i.e. yesterday centre: hyderabad
gd topic: Privatization in education is leading to dilution of education
Panel had 12 candidates and 4 were sent back because they didnt have identity certificate/character certificate/any other certificate…so take everything with you guys
Panel had 4 persons- 3 of them above 55 and one in 40s
GD everyone of us were given 2 mins to speak and then 2nd round of 30 secs with no repetition of points
note: THEY ARE NOTING DOWN FEW POINTS OF OUR GD AND ASKING QUESTIONS ON THOSE IN THE INTERVIEW
after the GD, personal interviews started
Mine was 15 mins interview
M1: 1. Are you willing to relocate to anywhere if u get selected?
2. Why didnt u go for phd after msc
3. A QUESTION FROM My GD points
M2: 4. Your academic profile is excellent and impressive, Y dont u try for IAS?
5. Since last one month rupee is depriciating and the foreign investors are now taking back their investments from our country. So what should the govt do to restore their confidence?
M3: 6. Who is the head of the state of Germany?
7. In world war 2, if Russia didnt interfere, what would be the position of Germany?
8. Germany got divided into upper and lower Germany. What is the ideological difference between them?
9. Do you know what are Khaps? Do you agree with them? What should be done?
M4: 10.Recently a doctor from Delhi has gone to USA and did research on Cancer Biology and published a book named—————(he named it i dont remember it), which got a prize. Tell me whats the book and the prize?
11. Dolly is famous in biotechnology. I answered y it was famous and immediately he asked me when it was born?
12. Coning human beings- many ethics are concerned with it. What do you think they should continue experimenting on cloning? I told the reason and he immediately shooted at me the next question that so all u biologists think they should be given super powers of god to human beings.(may be he is anti-biologist…hahaha)
13. THE MOST UNEXPECTED AND STRANGE QUESTION- ur personal opinion on NARENDRA MODI. I tried to not to answer it but he was prompting to me to answer this, so finally gave a balanced view. He was asking as if he was modi favourite while it might not be the case. Felt a bit uncomfortable for this question since i never thought there could be questions on politicians/ persons in particular
14. What does your mother and father do?
ok u may leave now.
M3: Again raised the same thing even after i was asked to leave. Can you compare the plight of minorities in other states vis-a-vis modi’s Govt?
Overall it was good except for the questions on Modi since it is an opinion based question which can differ from person to person
Anyways friends i wish you all the best
Thanks shilpa. All the best.
most welcome and all the best
Hey can u please tell from which background you are….?
Thank you for the detailed info… All the best
most welcome and all the best
Thank You.. A small doubt shilpa.. Do we need to carry both original sheets and photocopies of character certificates???

Interview – 8th July 2013, 8 am slot, LHO, Bangalore
What happened in GD has already been covered in comments above by ‘Engg’, so I’ll share my interview experience.
1st set of questions were asked by the chairman of the panel, Mr. Hariharan. Incidentally, my father is a former SBI employee and the 1st question was about that. Next he asked if I wanted to join SBI as means to land a job in my native state (Bihar). Then, he seemed very interested in my profession (business analytics) and asked me to describe what I exactly do.
At this point, a 2nd member started asking questions. He asked me how would I increase the deposits in any branch of SBI, in context of existing customers and targeting new ones. Then he asked questions on Bihar – why is Bodh Gaya famous? Same for Sasaram and Pava Puri and KushiNagar.
Then the 3rd member asked a lot of GK trivia – who was India’s first woman judge of a High Court, who was the 1st woman secretary general of UN and a few other questions. Most of these answers I did not know and said the same directly.
Finally, the chairman asked the 4th member to question me. He asked what’s micro finance and a few other things which I can’t recall.
One thing that was good was that the members weren’t depriciative when I was unable to answer most of their GK questions.
Hope this comment is of help to other aspirants. All the best!
Pls Help! I have my date on 16th, is it compulsory to show them marks certificate of each semester, or a consolidated sheet containing all semesters is enough?. Pls answer.
They are checking the semester marks sheet for verification of the marks that we enter in the biodata form
Thanks
hi im from biotechnology background, no where related to world history background, but still got questions on them..
Attention,Aspirants of the civil service exam I want to share you my bitter experiences that happened today. I am one of the serious preparer of the civil service exam after my graduation till now I completed two attempts in both attempts I went till the interview but I didn’t get through, eventhough I have five more attempts as I belongs to OBC category. The incident happened today that I went to the interview in Top MNC that recruiting for its BPO process, I selected for the final HR interview but he squeezed me a lot and also he blamed for my
inexperience and he sent me out without providing offer letter. So please friends if u are preparing for civil service create some back ups otherwise u will not be valued outside
hi senthil don get disheartened
try hard and get in his time dont worry pray to god..u will definitely make into civils..try for other government exams ….god blesss
thank u shilpa
Right bro! Thanks for the advice. Some of us came here because we had no value before. If we dont do any value addition now, the future is bleak.
Photocopies self attest karni hai ya fir gazetted officer se
for me they didnt ask for gazetted officer, only self attestation was sufficient and that too they took only one copy of the certificates!!
