Instructions for Mathematics Optional Paper:
- There are EIGHT questions divided in Two Sections and printed both in HINDI and in ENGLISH. Candidate has to attempt FIVE questions in all.
- Question no. 1 and 5 are compulsory and out of the remaining, THREE are to be attempted choosing at least ONE from each section.
- The number of marks carried by a question/part is indicated against it.
- Answers must be written in the medium authorized in the Admission certificate which must be stated clearly on the cover of this Question-cum-Answer (QCA) booklet in the space provided. No marks will be given for answers written in medium other than the authorized one.
- Assume suitable data, if considered necessary and indicate the same clearly.
- Unless and otherwise indicated, symbols and notations carry their usual standard meaning.
- Attempts of questions shall be counted in chronological order. Unless struck off, attempt of a question shall be counted even if attempted partly. Any page or portion of the page left blank in the answer book must be clearly struck off.

What does it mean by —- “Attempts of questions shall be counted in chronological order.” ?
Does it mean that I have to answer the questions serially as 1,2,3,4,5 in stead of 2,3,1,4,5 or 3,2,4,5,1 ?
It means that whichever question you have attempted, they shall be checked in increasing order. It is for those who have attended more than required questions intentionally or unintentionally.

I am completed my graguation in B.E. IN MECH. & came from Gujarat. I have lots of interest in mathematics.So, I need each guideline for maths paper as civil services examination.It’s my final decision for electing Mathematics sub. as optional paper.
(1)How to prepare for that?()Is compulsory to take coaching from any insti. or academy?(2)should I go delhi for coaching or elsewhere(3)which book should I prefer?(4)what stategy should I make? In short,I want complete info. about it.
