UPSC has declared the official cutoff marks for Civil service exam 2013 (Prelims, mains and interview stage)

You wont find above link on the FrontPage of UPSC website but if you click on “Examination” section & then scroll down to “cutoff marks”, you’ll see it.

- From the above * and # , now we know UPSC’s official system of “minimum passing marks” (this was never disclosed in RTIs so far).
- it implies that if you failed to reach minimum passing marks in any one paper then they won’t select you for next stage, even if you get best marks in other papers.
- BUT overall merit list prepared by combing scores of both GS + Aptitue paper.

PS: In 2011 and 2012, UPSC did not have two options and two GS papers, so comparative table of 2011 vs 12 vs 13 is meaningless. Because entire mains system is changed.

individual marks aane do,iska bhi idea lag jayega.there r many who gave both exams.
if a person gets 200 in second paper then also he needs 41 for gen nd 22 for obc so there is no logic for setting min of 30 marks in paper 1.

Cutoff is very high bt expected coz of easiness of paper 1 this year cutoff will be according to toughness of paper 1.bt we have to work very hard
nopes.i dnt think so.upsc is unpredictable.que paper (pre) ws much easier in 2013 as cmpared to 2014.no one knows how the ppr wl b ths yr.dnt assume anything.bcz thn u wl mark evn those que. which u r nt sure of.if ppr is easy, its fr evryone nd if its tough,again 4 evryone.so cut of wl b accordingly.nd i think ppr-2 wl b tricky ths yr nd ppr-1 wl b easy.,so tht humanities students r nt at any loss.

@deepali….im expecting upsc will set horrible papers (both paper 1 and paper 2) this year….last year it gave just a breath for aspirants….this year it will sweat all the candidates….no matter of situation, should clear prelims thats it

enter you registration id and date of birth
check whether both parts of your application show the necessary details including you pic and signature
if everything appears there then no need to worry.

this years prelim + mains paper is going to be a very tough nut to crack considering the age/attempt relaxation and those who didn’t appear last year due to the syllabus change.
high cut off should b seen que wise nt marks wise.difference of 30 marks means u cn take it as 10 easy que in paper-1 nd 5 easy question in ppr-2 or vice versa,so ths way rise in cut off is nt tht much.any one opting 4 anthro? wl b appearing nxt yr,just strtd prep.
yeah, I have anthro. prepared approax. 50% of the basics so far, right now reading from indrani basu(s chand), selected topics only. plus selective reading from ember&ember( though a bulky book and lots of irrelevant material from exam pov, some of the exam topics have been lucidly explained). anthropological thought, pending.
i hd biology in graduatn,so i took anthro bcz many topics of genetics etc r in anthro syallabus.bt dnt knw abt coaching.wl prepare on my own.bcz m wrking.thought 2 gv ths yr bt nt posibl bcz evn if qualify mains no chance of doing all syalabus in 3 months.ignou material 4 m.a anthro is also vry gud.mny topics r covered in tht.cn we get this in markt? ignou books?

Based on the premise that this year many veterans will be in the fray(due to reasons like new pattern last year + age and attempt relaxations) and the assumptions like that UPSC despises senior players, among others that I may not be able to comprehend. Please throw some light on the type of prelims paper we can expect this time.

you will get mail confirmation after the final submission of form.
I got the mail that says my candidature is invalid because I didnt opt for a center, to ignore is already filled. My form print clearly shows my choice of center. Did anybody else have the same issue??

Dear Friends.why final cut off and mains cut off is low?
due to tight evaluation as usual n new scheme of things
aprox 30% overall to qualify mains and getting the place in final merit

It is my first attempt this year,
and these figures are really frightening man !
The fact that every 2nd person that sees me says “Ohh UPSC,tumse na ho paayega” coupled with this cut off rise ,
makes me nervous !

my score was near about 110 in GS but only 125 in CSAT so overall 235 but below cut off…..sittttt man….now don’t know what to do…….

UPSC hasn’t clarified that. RTI will have to be filled.

Last year many toppers also got ~45 to 50 in pub ad paper-I… So, this 44 code subject makes us worry after scaling…. Above doubt will become nightmare after writing mains in future…

Go back to Part II application form online and complete it with the offline payment details. Only after that shall you get an option to select the CSAT examination centre.
U can find that column after said payment……
use internet banking in place of debit card………..

And i am feeling very low.. expected 240 in pre, so dint go abroad to a good b school… thought wud clear pre…so upsc mains is better than going for b school abroad… (its ranked around 15th worldwide btw :( )

Practice Practice and Practice.
Hope you have done the basics so now just solve mock papers. It will increase your speed and you can define your strategy according.
Increase your speed with quality.
Don’t even attempt a single question in which you have doubt, if wrong it will take your score down.
Now why – Because if you attempt any question just by guess or without surity and even if it get correct in your mock papers, then first you won’t able to analyse where you stand exactly and cant able to find out how much you need to improve and where to improve. Second, you won’t focus on that type of question again and if such question come in real exam then it may lead to loss of marks. So, improve your weak areas by not attempting questions which you don’t know and then analyse your mock well.
Say you got 80 questions in mock, you attempted 50 and al them were correct for the rest just analyse why you were not able to solve – time problem/couldn’t understand the logic/confusion/etc and then clear that problem.
Soon you will be able to cross 180.
(personal experience-100% accuracy for 2 years in all CAT type papers)
Start with your strength, i.e., Either quant or reasoning or comprehension. Better to start with quant then reasoning and at last comprehension.
Save time from quant and reasoning and use it in comprehension.

See I am a new player :)
Started GS one month back but completed the entire course for prelims in one month (1st reading, target is to read 4 times before I appear for prelims)
How I went
1. Geography – NCERT 11th and 12th + GCL (make notes its must)
2. Economics- NCERT 11th and 12th + online + Mrunal (yet to read Ramesh Singh)
3. Indian Polity – Laxmikant (read from first word to last word, if you can’t make notes then underline and write on borders). The best part of the book is that there is some iterative algo :) just kidding, I mean when you will go on reading chapter by chapter, many things repeat again and some link to old chapters so you won’t forget the things and if you forget, the book is so well that you need to read again).
4. Modern History (back to back of polity as modern history have a bit relevance with polity) – NCERT + Bipin Chandra
6. Ancient History – NCERT
7. Mid – NCERT
8. Env – IGNOU

My learning
0. You have to up to date with newspaper and good websites like EPW etc to keep your self up to date. I am facing problem in doing entire year current affairs at once. (Mrunal gave one eg., of Singham making body in some x days…. so true).
1. Once you start, don’t get up in the mid as it will break your flow and you won’t able to remember what you read when you resume study again.
2. Make notes – Very important else atleast do underline. I know many people who cleared this time and didnt prepare notes.
3. Make notes in flow charts – Diagram, relate to some or more incident
4. Sit in front and mirror and now teach to yourself look at mirror what you read, best revision way if you preparing alone.
5. EVEN IF YOU CAN’T PREPARE NOTES AND CAN’T DO UNDERLINE THEN

And play them when you go for walk or jogging.
Don’t go for short cut even if you have less time, increase your reading speed and spend quality time.
Don’t talk to many to know what to read and what to not. Focus on Mrunal’s strategy and at least finish course once so that you can talk sense to your friends.
Just dont waste time on “yaar tera kitna ho gaya, mera itna ho gaya, bla bla bla……… it will lead to nothing else waste of time.
Standard books –> then revise them again –> then any coaching notes/GS Mannual for supplement.

but brother how 2 solve comprehension because that is my weakest portion .
I have score aprox 222 (102+122) in prelim 2013 .
Even I too scored 230 (only 40 in GS) without studying even a second.
Then forgot about it.
Now took Sanyas :) and completely into it.
For comprehension, reading habit will help, read fast. Don’t read and convert in hindi line by line. Read in english and understand the concept in english only.
Because what people do, they read in english and convert it into hindi and then try to understand what comprehesion means, again they convert it into english while answering.
(what I do-I first read questions of comprehesion – then read the paragraph and focus more where I feel that some question is around this line.) – this is subject to your own risk but it helped.
and other is practice mock, the only thing you need to improve to understand that sense in which the paragraph is written and what it signify.

Main ek normal Arts graduate (distance learning) hun aur throughout HIndi me padha hun. Pehli bar CS baitha par pre qualify nahi kar paya, Score – Paper I -51.34 aur Paper II – 150. Paper II me acha score karna kafi aasan hai par Jiska command Paper I par hoga wo pre me to baji marega hi mains me bhi marega.

please tell me where to find mock tests (reliable ones) for CSAT…. but don’t suggest any CAT level mock test … because I think that would border on overkill considering level of CSAT which is way below CAT as you would have noticed……….
Don’t go for CAT level. Its just waste of time.
Paper 2 just 10th level maths nothing else.
CL mock papers (although never seen them but one of my friend joined even after having command in paper 2, so seems fine and then previous year mocks)
if you lack in basis then RS Agarwal is good.

CSAT math/english is not a problem for me (I won’t even dignify that by calling that a child’s play …hahaha)….. having an engineering background involves dealing with the Fourier and Laplace transforms and solving complex mathematical equations on a regular basis and that’s a way of life for people like us…………. I just wanted an authentic mock test for practicing once in a while…………………

after seeing such a high cut off i think thousands of serious candidates, especially the new comers and particularly those from humanities background are sure to get some headache. i accept this challenge. if this trend continues, i think next cutoff will be around 270+ . no matter how much you study for the mains, if you fail in prelims, you lose one year and one attempt and 1000 kg of motivation.
darne se kuchh nahi hoga. darr ka samna karna padega. joi bhi kamjori hai usako dur karna hoga. AND sirf upsc cse ke bharose apni jawani ko barbad nahi karna hai. ye upsc bahut bewafa hai. is liye koi badhiya job pakad lo ya agar already job me ho to pakde rahna.
SO PRACTISE AND PRACTISE MORE SETS TO CLEAR PRELIMS.
