UPSC has declared the official cutoff marks for Civil service exam 2013 (Prelims, mains and interview stage)

You wont find above link on the FrontPage of UPSC website but if you click on “Examination” section & then scroll down to “cutoff marks”, you’ll see it.

- From the above * and # , now we know UPSC’s official system of “minimum passing marks” (this was never disclosed in RTIs so far).
- it implies that if you failed to reach minimum passing marks in any one paper then they won’t select you for next stage, even if you get best marks in other papers.
- BUT overall merit list prepared by combing scores of both GS + Aptitue paper.

PS: unlike Bank exams there is no sectional cutoffs within an individual paper. (This is confirmed via RTI many times)

PS: In 2011 and 2012, UPSC did not have two options and two GS papers, so comparative table of 2011 vs 12 vs 13 is meaningless. Because entire mains system is changed.
is paperwise minimum cut off legally correct as there was no such mention in advt. at any stage and as per my knowldge no commission can change/deviate from terms of recruitment examination as published in advt. ?????

Mrunal! what is the cut off of Indian forest service 2013 in pre-paper to be called for mains?
If I am right, then pre-paper’s cut off for forest service should be higher than UPSC…any comment guys!
Obviously ,bro.Only 1000 odd were selected for IFoS mains.Many like me failed in IFoS pre but cleared CSE pre.By the way ,my pre score was around 260(little variation may take place in d official marksheet).So IFoS pre cutoff might be above 260 or so,hopefully.
Within a few days,story willbe crystal clear in wake of upload of individual marks

30 and 70 are NOT CUTOFFs. They are minimum marks to be scored in the individual paper. Just like how in College exams you need minimum 35/100 to be considered PASSED.
Here too 30 and 70 are minimum pass marks. Only if you have minimum pass mark in each paper, you will be considered passed and you will be given a score based on your performance.
A Cutoff is the minimum mark you need to score in order to GET SELECTED to next round.

You are being irrational by comparing two different exams.
Scoring 99%ile in CAT IS NOT AN INDICATOR of success in any other exam or of success in life in general. It is just an indicator of a one-time performance in ONE PARTICULAR EXAM !!! Technically, there is every chance that in the next CAT, you may not even get 70%ile. What will that mean then ??
Civil Services are a different ball game. Number skills alone won’t help.

b tech from a collg wich no one knows and cleared prelims in first attempt along with engineering graduating year so dont boast of cat scores it doesn,t matter at ol.wot matters is how dedicated u,re for this particular exam nd how u approach it

Because you did less then them. Just focus on the pattern and flew.
U will be on the list.
If the questions are hard the same list shows low cut off
If the paper is easy i comparative way it will show high cut off.
UPSC might have lowered the level of paper due the non english candidates which by the 2nd time prelims have gained the expertise and this make the rise in cutoffs.

what is wrong with that question? there is a steep change in cutoffs and that is ought to raise question in mind of any first-timer. Don’t bully any one, just because you have idea about some trivial thing.
cut off depends on difficulty level of exam so can vary according to that.

I attempted mains with English medium , I prepared and wrote all papers with full of my strength, I was very much satisfied with MAINS EXAM. I was expecting Interview call , but I did not qualified mains . well until today i was not able to figure out that what went wrong , I doubted Hindi(Compulsory).I was wrong ……
It was English(compulsory) which stabbed at my back. Actually I never prepared for it ,although I did some practice for Hindi . I never even in my dream had expected this from English .
I did not understand the sick mind set of UPSC , A innocent kid have written altogether 8 paper in English(sub,essay,gs,compulsory) even then they don’t consider that I know English.
MORAL – 1. You have to equally message ego of each and every paper.Nothing can be taken for granted .
2. They want English from “ENGLAND”(still slaves) and not English from “US” or INglish from ‘INDIA’. They are still slaves deep in their heart and mind

While I sympathise with your plight, it is your own doing that you haven’t been selected. Don’t blame UPSC or the English language. UPSC is being kind by making the English qualifying score lesser than that of the Indian Language paper’s. If one can’t score even 75, well then there is no point in saying anything further.
English is called English because it is from England. There is no other version to it. American and Indian English etc are distortions of the original language. In a Maths paper, if a given problem is very tough and you cannot do it, will you blame the whole subject itself ???

And of course there are things like American english or British English because a language is not a dead thing. A language is a living thing and grows/changes with time. I am sorry that you did not clear. But FYI your other 7 papers written in English were never touched since you could not qualify in english.

Marks have been uploaded in the UPSC site. I checked mine 200(OBC). 82 + 117.5. Will give my best next time….
Sir, Its apalling that I’ve score 72.66 in paper-i and 127.50 in paper-ii in CS Prelims. And ST cut-offs is 200 as per upsc declaration. But my Roll.no was not there in the Prelim result. Very sad. Hope they don’t repeat the same on any of the serious aspirant.

Even same problem faced by me. GS + CSAT = 200, ST category but couldn’t clear prelims
last cut off wale sabhi select nhi hote. they only select candidate as per vacancy.for e.g. If there r 400 candidates having 200 marks in prelims they only select some candidates only( in equal marks case merit can be prepared by giving preference to older candidate)

belong to S.T category……on upsc website it is written in remarks that
1. NOT QUALIFIED IN CS(P) EXAMINATION,2013
2. NOT QUALIFIED IN IFS(P) EXAMINATION,2013
please let me know what to do now
what does it means that 30marks min in G.S. and 70 Marks in CSAT. if 241 is cutoff than no stress for CSAT loving students(engg/bankPO/ssc) they ll not change their strategy for CSAT as marks scoring to qualify prelims.
I got 30 in GS and 176 in APTI. will try my best next time. how much can I score in gs if I read only standard books and mrunal.
