UPSC has declared the official cutoff marks for Civil service exam 2013 (Prelims, mains and interview stage)

You wont find above link on the FrontPage of UPSC website but if you click on “Examination” section & then scroll down to “cutoff marks”, you’ll see it.

- From the above * and # , now we know UPSC’s official system of “minimum passing marks” (this was never disclosed in RTIs so far).
- it implies that if you failed to reach minimum passing marks in any one paper then they won’t select you for next stage, even if you get best marks in other papers.
- BUT overall merit list prepared by combing scores of both GS + Aptitue paper.

PS: unlike Bank exams there is no sectional cutoffs within an individual paper. (This is confirmed via RTI many times)

PS: In 2011 and 2012, UPSC did not have two options and two GS papers, so comparative table of 2011 vs 12 vs 13 is meaningless. Because entire mains system is changed.

what makes things interesting and complicated is, is it likely that min’ qualifying marks for prelims be raised?
Imagine unpredictable public service commission (UPSC) eilan karte hai ke prelims cutoff marks 3:7 se 6:14 ko bada diya jai.. Jo bhe ho jung k liye tayar ho jao !!

where did you get your score 220?some people had scored 224 ,230 but could not make through prelims,,,there must be questions which UPSC has judged differently otherwise this would not had happened..
Don’t be ridiculous. All questions are judged in the same way.
222 is the OBC cut-off. Obviously it will be much lesser than the General cut-off.
So OBC people who score have scored less than 241 (General cut-off) but more than 222 will no doubt qualify. Those who score >=241 will anyway get through irrespective of category.
How difficult is this to understand ?

what is the cut off for forest service prelims??any idea @mrunal
I am good with Aptitude(CSAT-2), but not so good with GS. 2 months, hard work is sure. Can u recommend some fast track books? so that the basics are good for clearing GS prelims..? plz repli..
Disha, there is not any fast track method.
Just follow the standard reference books.
2 months is more than enough. Finish all standard reference books in 1.5 months and then 15 days revisions. You can revise from these books again or any other notes.
Make your own notes, very much helpful.
When I started, I read someone comment that “you can easily complete course in 3 months and depends on you, 1–2-3-4 times, thanks to that person, I got motivation)
Don’t fall in any trap like sure shot and bla bla… even if you won’t clear in 2 months (I wish you clear) then also you will have a strong and solid foundation which will help later. No hard work goes in vain.
Std books and material already mentioned in strategy part from Mrunal, follow that religiously.
Disclaimer: All on personal experience + advice from those who cleared…
If one was to read the three prel cut offs .. y-o-y growth 2011 – 12 was just 5.56% but for 2012 – 13 its 15.31%!! Going by the same the next expected cut off can be 255 – 278 (5.56% – 15.31% up). Which implies CSAT has to be so strong that its almost tending towards 200 cos scoring extremely high in GS is something which is quite impossible unless UPSC is too sweet ;)
your approach is right if go by trend but everything in this world have a saturation point.
But still we should expect 255 to be on safer side.
Anyway,, more or less both papers have their limit. I think paper 2, is 167 on higher side (if you do 10 question incorrect, which is very much possible) but still this is on higher side, assume we leave 4 questions unmarked just bcz of shortage of time, so it will be 157 in paper 2 . And 90-100 in paper 1 ( just taking 50%). It lead to max 267 and minimum 247.
If we take the avg of two it will be around 255 (same per your calculation).
So, 255 is good and 267 if perfect to clear or to be on safer side.
-we are so valla to do all such random stuff instead of studying. :)

please tell me where to find mock tests (reliable ones) for CSAT…. but don’t suggest any CAT level mock test … because I think that would border on overkill considering level of CSAT which is way below CAT as you would have noticed……….

Gen=241 and OBC=222 bahut na insafi hain….19 marks diff. Betwn gen and obc is not fair…19 marks diff= 10 to 13 mins extra in csat….got 236 last tym and not cleared…dis tym will hav to bounce back… i m sure dis tym with mrunal bhai’s strategy i will make it…thnk u so much sir for ur timely guidance and opening eyes of ours to sail through dis prestigeous exam……

Sir UPSC does not mention Cut off for IFoS 2013 at prelim stage
Sir please provide me the same cut off its very urgent because I have appear in this year exam
wait for individual marks to come up..since pre is common…then picture will be clear somewhat.upsc didnot anbounce ifos pre marks while declaring those of the other stages of ifos ,since it would have given idea of civil services pre.so let’s wait.

If I got 30 marks in GS 1 (i.e. minimum; cutoff for GS1) and scored 200 in GS2 then also I would score 230 which is 11 short of the prelims cutoff. So, how can the GS1 cutoff be 30? It has to be a minimum of 41 if not more.
It is a pretty futile and pointless exercise speculating cut-offs when we don’t really know what would be there in the store.Further speculating that there would be an an exponential increase in the cut-off this year is even more pointless as we do know that UPSC buck’s the trend AKA BACKBREAKING(courtesy Mrunal ji!)

It has been declared long ago…just after IFoS results were declared
Nexe cutoff may be above 260
d only way to clear prelims 2014 is to correct 60 questions in both papers,which gives u 120+150marks=270marks. 270 se upar cutoff lagne ka koi chance nahi hai. isliye bina kisi tention ke dono papers me minimum 60 question theek karne ke baare me socho. best of luck.

Cut off is no doubt higher than the previous year but after reading expected marks of toppers in interviews in this website, I thought it must have crossed 260!!
