UPSC has declared the official cutoff marks for Civil service exam 2013 (Prelims, mains and interview stage)

You wont find above link on the FrontPage of UPSC website but if you click on “Examination” section & then scroll down to “cutoff marks”, you’ll see it.

Minimum passing marks: Prelims
- From the above * and # , now we know UPSC’s official system of “minimum passing marks” (this was never disclosed in RTIs so far).
- it implies that if you failed to reach minimum passing marks in any one paper then they won’t select you for next stage, even if you get best marks in other papers.
- BUT overall merit list prepared by combing scores of both GS + Aptitue paper.

PS: unlike Bank exams there is no sectional cutoffs within an individual paper. (This is confirmed via RTI many times)

*UPSC officially mentioned these minimum passing marks of language papers, in the Notification of CSE-2014.
PS: In 2011 and 2012, UPSC did not have two options and two GS papers, so comparative table of 2011 vs 12 vs 13 is meaningless. Because entire mains system is changed.
My total mark is 742.but I was not on the final list. Can you explain it please. Will there be any reserve list?

Mistake in UPSC prelim 2013 answer key: If i look at Q 51 of booklet A of civils prelims 2013, then the correct answer is given to be option (b). but option (a) is also correct. There cannot be more than 22 members in the public accounts committee in all. that implies that there can be no more than 25 members from LS, which is what option (a) says. so the correct option should be (d). Am i missing something? Thanks

Better resign ur current job and study for upsc as fulltime course either through a coaching centre or self study

Sir, i am a civils aspirant. My goal n my ambition is to crack UPSC. I am working as an asst. manager at union bank of india at present. i find very less time and as my posting is in rural area,i cant attend any coching classes. kindly suggest me what steps to be taken for UPSC 2015 exam. how can i manage my schedule? how should i prepare without any guidance?
it will need atleast, 6-8 month of deep study, and nothing else,
prepare your self notes,…stay updated with(from), one or more coaching institute/ Website like mrunal

if you are working,….. i can’t say it is impossible, but a little difficult, in past some of the students cleared the exam with a job in hand,
i gave the Civil services mains exam-2014 this year,
Although paper was different, written marks can not be guessed from outside, still i need some independent, pre result projections.
My Essay paper was not so good,..i will rate it as below average
English language paper a criss-cross situation
compulsor indian language(hindi), just passing
Optional p1 more than average
Optional p2 average
GS1- attempted 50% solid and extra 25% with careless ness (7+3, out of 14 )
GS2- around 40-45%
GS3- around 55-60%
GS4- around 60% with solid and extra 15 % in a reckless manner
What might be outcome,…. should i fear? and if not,……then??

I BELONG TO JAT COMMUNITY AS PER SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT I AM NO LONGER OBC., I AM CONFUSED ABOUT MY NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS, I HAVE GIVEN CIVILS TWO TIMES ONE AS GENERAL CATEGORY IN 2012 AND ANOTHER IN 2014 AS OBC, THEN WILL IT MEANS I AM STILL LEFT WITH 5 ATTEMPTS AS GENERAL CATEGORY STUDENT OR BOTH ATTEMPTS WILL BE COUNTED AS PART OF GENERAL CANDIDATURE.

can any body say me expected cutoff for prilims 2014. i am new comer to civil service preparation.i could score 160/400 when i solved this myself and checked with vaji key.

Cut off for Prelims 2014 was around 210-215 for General Category students.
these cut offs r actually misleading……nothing is ever fixed…they act like brakes when you start scoring more than these cutoffs!!
english is not necesary for rural students
