RTI for Photocopy of Mains Answersheet
In a recent ruling CIC (in June 2014) had ordered UPSC to give the photocopy of the mains answersheet to a candidate. So you can demand yours as well. Only then you can know where and why did good / bad marks.

As per the order of Hon’ble Chief Information Commissioner Shri Rajiv Mathur in CIC/SM/A/2013/001282/RM, dated June 3, 2014, he has held that every candidate has right to inspect / obtain a photocopy of his evaluated answer sheet in the civil service exam. Therefore, the said information cannot be denied / withheld under Section 8 of RTI.

- With this application, I’ve added the requisite Rs.10 application fees via Netbanking / DD / Indian postal order drawn in favor of “Accounts officer,UPSC“
- I seek the information in paper format / electronic (CD) format
- Let me know additional charges for getting the requisite information.

Mrunal notes:
- Legally, you can demand the information in CD/DVD format by giving Rs.50, but UPSC babus never give CD/DVD and don’t even return 50 rupees. So don’t send additional money in advance right now. At this stage only Rs. 10 as fees for filing the RTI application.
- After recieving your application, he’ll write back to you asking for additional money for the photocopy/CD charges. Only then you send money.
- if you’re filing online and donot get conformation even after successful payment via netbanking, THEN DONOT Worry. you’ll get notified in 1-2 days that your application has been accepted. (happened with me in past, so don’t apply again in that case, one application sufficient.)
- if you’re filling online, you may also attach a PDF copy of your hallticket (as proof that it’s you and not some third party.)
- Legally information within 30 days. But UPSC babus deliberately reply the letter on the very last day before deadline. So assume 35 days.
- other than that, request all mains players to put their optional subject marks.

I sucked of course… 52 in paper I, 152.50 in paper 2, 205 total. Only consolation is, this came with prep in 15 days of study leave.

Is it possible to get the entire list of selected candidates marks compiled in an excel sheet?
When i am entering all details to open my prelims marksheet, the marksheet is appearing entirely blank like the column of name and roll number are even empty i.e even my name n roll no. are not mentioned. Only “ifs pre not qualified” is written in remarks.
Can u plz tell me why is so???

potential energy — since— water falls from a height it initially has PE
kinetic energy — since — after falling it acquires Kinetic energy before reaching the turbines at the cost of potential energy………
solar energy —- because water in the river flows only due to water accumulated by rain and ice melting which are both caused by solar energy……………. ask TMH guys..what the hell “ultimate source of energy ” means in the first place……………

Important part of the question is the ‘ultimate source of energy’ and the rest can be anything and still the answer remains the same for the given options.

Hydro-electric power is renewable.

I thought I had flunked in zoology as i attempted only 200 in paper1 and 170 in paper 2 and answers were so average that i was ashamed when I came out of the examination hall but I was expecting over 120 in essay :(
Anyway had studied for only 40 days for mains (including optional). Even these marks are enough when I analyse my preparation.

But the thing is i had taken coaching in 2010 in delhi but did not write exam as I just attended classes did not prepare and had to came back to rejoin my software job and was working. I did not prepare after that. This year since I knew I will have a break in Between switching jobs during mains time, I wrote the exam. Now seeing the marks I’m not able to decide if I need to puruse the exam full time at delhi for an year or not (at max I can pursue till dec 2015 now)?
or else I right now have an USA opportunity to move there in october or later (I do have the flexibility to decide as it is a direct offer from US) and come back after couple of years and give one final shot at it, the reason being optional will not be there :-) and I may have to get married as I’m approaching 30 :-)

Pub Ad as a subject is very good according to me but the scores coming out recently look not very encouraging.
But as most of them say chose which interest you without worrying about marking patterns. I will suggest read the syllabus and go through some of the reference books before u decide.
I beg to differ that our cases are not the same. I graduated last year. I had PG plans in my mind before attempting UPSC, but during the final semester of the college I realised that I would not like to settle with anything other than civil services. so, after appearing for prelims in May and finishing my graduation from Mumbai in August, I returned to my hometown (I belong to a small town in Jharkhand), I don’t believe in coaching and I am sticking to self study. In October I had my state services mains, I dedicated too much time to it so, I switched to UPSC mains preparation in late October( that was a blunder).
But since you are asking my opinion I would like to say that just think where do you want to see yourself after 5 years, will you be happy doing job in US or satisfied by staying here and giving your genuine attempt ( irrespective of the result).
I dropped top colleges of mumbai like NMIMS and JBIMS ( their placement record is awesome with avg package around 10 lac/annum) but I have no regret. Personal satisfaction is what we should aim at and at least try for. Isn’t it?

Yes! I thought I wrote it so well, I usually get good marks in essays because I have a habit of article writing so this came as a complete shock to me. Still can’t figure out what went wrong. :/

optional shud b chosen only on one criteria,what subject do u lik? tht’s it.bcz if u lik smthng,u read it more tht too wth various aspects,nd if any unexpected que cms,evn thn u cn write some good stuff.ths is the sole criteria.chose tht optional which u lik most.
Hi deepali, I think, there is a big haul in your comment. In my case, I liked anthro the most, I started it with a lot of enthusiasm, but after studying (not only reading) 3-4 chapters, I found it difficult due to the wordings (especially biology, zoology kind of terms..big big words) and was not able to sustain for long. Finally i decided to opt for other subject (2nd priority subject.)
So, it could be depend on candidate as well as on subjects (when you actually start studying.)
Please let me know, if you think otherwise!!

Could you please provide the Order No., and if possible a copy of the same, in which the CIC instructed the UPSC to provide copies of descriptive answer sheets to the applicants? It would be of great benefit for those filing RTI to get copies of their answersheet in exams other than UPSC, if they could quote the order in course of appeal, as the chances of stubborn rejection at the first shot is very high.

@Mrunal bhai: Till date has anyone got corrected answer sheets of CS mains from UPSC by filing RTI. Will it be any use to file an RTI with them?

I am currently working as PO in SBI (PO 2013). Had to join in Oct 2013 during high time of mains preparation as they denied extension. HISTORY OPTIONAL Essay 100, gs1 41, gs 2 43, gs 3 58, gs 4 83, history 1 48, hisory 2 108.. Not recommended for interview
so there is no chance to get the date of joining postponed?
