FAQ
Q. Have you opened your own “coaching factory” in Delhi?
Ans. No, this is being done at SPIPA, Ahmedabad. It’s a Gujarat government organization that runs classes. There are similar bodies by Maharashtra and Tamilnadu government too.
Q. Where can I download PowerPoint slides of your lecture?
Ans. https://files.secureserver.net/0fzRqIv71qNX5Q
Q. What about the videos of remaining chapters?
Ans. Next lecture is on 22nd Tuesday. So with God willing, by Wednesday I should be able to upload the next batch of videos.
Q. Will you publish “text” articles or not?
Ans. Yes certainly.
Economic survey has importance in both Prelims and Mains. If this budget -survey had came in February itself then I’d have gotten sufficient time to cover both angles at once before prelims.
But at this junction, If i try to cover both simultenously then exam will be over before article series is over!
Therefore, in these videos, I’ve tried to priorities all the MCQ worthy points. In the “text-article” I aim to combine both MCQ worthy points + mains-descriptive points, so it’ll take time.

thnx a lot sir..:)
very nice thank u mrunal sir, n plz those who could not understand ,first download ppt, isolate themself ,and analyse ppt and lecture simultaneously .i hope this will help u ,i did it and understood but not ready to fight mcq so going to read e.survey once more……….any way all the best to all of u.
1. The maths asked here, just not test calculation strength of aspirants, instead tests aptitude. 2. When the whole world is moving in one direction (bringing reforms in their selection process), why these people again want to move back? 3. Don’t you people know basic english? English is unavoidable nowadays in the world. Even german people are learning it. 4. Crying for biasedness, against Hindi language is simply illogical. Atleast feel happy that you people get questions printed in Hindi. But others who opt for non-HINDI AND non-English dont even get any favour. So to make level playing field Hindi translation also must be stopped. Or give question paper in all other regional languages also. 5. People who are serious do not protest, instead they work hard and fight in the examination hall. Atleast become winner or shaheed. Dont become coward…
sir reading material in youtube video form doesn’t work in remote areas with slow net connection. please provide the reading material in text form as before..
ravi 86, read the last line of this article. Mrunal has assured he’ll post articles.
text version bhi ayega just wait….
if possible download using IDM then watch.
thank Q…:)

Hi Ashish. I am in Baroda and tried at two book stalls who sell this type of books. but they don’t have. Please tell me if you know some shop in Baroda.
Hey Roshani,
I’m from Baroda too.. I think it’ll take some time before it’s available in bookshops like Bansal. For now, you can order the print version online from Flipkart. If its not to difficult, you could download and get the main chapters printed from any shop. Wont be that costly.
You can get all the books and Delhi Coachingwala’s material from Ahmedabad from Om Tower. But best is self prepaid notes….be wise while choosing…

Evidence supports language bias in civil services selection?
Pankaj Sharma/Zee Research Group
As government appointed committee examines the vexed issue of examination format for civil services, there appears certain merit in concerns voiced against the current system. A study of toppers in recent years demonstrates that urban bred English medium educated aspirants have scored better than vernacular educated peers.
Following protests from students across the country for change in the second paper of Civil Services, the government has postponed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) preliminary examination this year. A three-member committee has also been set up under the chairmanship of Arvind Varma to look in the issue.
Civil service aspirants claim that Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) has been impacting the performance of rural students and those from arts and humanities background giving undue advantage to those from engineering and science streams. Many argue that the new format is strikingly similar to management entrance exams that are tilted in favour of English-speaking urban candidates.
Athar Imam, a student protesting against the change in the exam pattern, said, “The change in the pattern is against the idea of inclusive education. In the last three years, there has been a sharp decline in the number of rural students who cleared the exam. The pattern clearly favours students from urban areas, especially those from engineering background.”
Imam also said that in 2013 only 26 out of 1123 students (2.3 per cent) from Hindi medium got selected whereas before CSAT their number used to vary between 10 to 15 per cent.
The current row is based on the demand of deletion of Paper-II in General Studies popularly known as CSAT. Prior to 2011, the preliminary examination consisted of an optional and General Studies papers. In such a scenario a student could choose one optional, which accounted for 300 marks, and General Studies paper, which accounted for 150 marks. But, as reported, some optional papers were seen as highly scoring and others non-scoring.
The trend of urban English-speaking UPSC aspirants is also evident in the CV of toppers of civil services in last three years. Gaurav Agrawal, who has got the first rank this year, holds Bachelor of Technology (Computer Science) degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow.
In 2013, Haritha V. Kumar from Kerala topped the civil services exam. She is an engineer and was undergoing training as an Indian Revenue Service Probationer at the National Academy of Customs Excise and Narcotics (NACEN) at Faridabad when got selected. She did her schooling at the St. Theresa’s Convent School in Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram before joining the Electronics and Communication programme at the Government Engineering College, Barton Hill.
Similarly, Shena Agarwal of Haryana topped the exam in 2012. Aggarwal has done her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. She had also topped the CBSE PMT in 2004. She studied at Sant Nischal Singh Public School in Yamuna Nagar and Dayanand Public School Nabha.
CSAT was based on the recommendations of Prof. S.K. Khanna Committee which recommended a paper on Aptitude that had a dominant component of reading comprehension, logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude. His recommendations came into effect from 2011. However, CSAT was first advocated by Dr Y.K. Alagh in his Civil Services Review Committee Report, 2001. He favoured the idea of testing the candidates in a common subject rather than on optional subjects.

wrong news. no official notification by upsc
Civil Service has always remained an exam of elites since its inception. Its not about a question of Rural or Urban or Hindi or non Hindi. Its a question of privileges. Access to education, quality of materials and the like. However they may workout the syllabus the privileged always get the advantage, because they are in a better position to adapt simple as that. A few changes in the question paper won’t be of any advantage to any rural candidates. What we need is better infrastructure in rural areas access to better facilities, we need changes ground up. So just work hard as you can. The privileged are already a step ahead.
its true that civil service exam is always remain as the exam of elite groups..
but focusing on the trends n awareness of the indian intelectual masses now its imp is percolated up to the grass root level.
and hence irrespective of class, urban rural backgraond, any academic background this exam is at top prioroty for all.
only the que is of its accesibility, that is certainly not inclusive type.
and hence the linguistic, urbn rural disparity is matter of concern and should be put at higher priority now and deletion of papre2 and giving more imp to GS paper 1 is rational demand
To all
1. those unable to see video due to internet speed, atleast refer to the power point of that lecture (link given at bottom of the article)
2. yes, I’ll publish articles on economic survey. refer to last paragraph of this article, for why it is delayed.
3. no, I cannot record it in english for now, because it’s a sarkaari institute of Gujarat, where I’m required to teach either and Gujarati or in Hindi. And I don’t have that expensive dual-camera parallel recording system at home like they’ve in their institute.
Sir there is a little confusion. You will be publishing articles in text format as well – I get this point clear. But will it be published before prelims or you’ll publish it keeping the mains as target? Please clarify, as downloading/watching videos at times get beyond means with expensive 3G internet.
