UPSC has uploaded the halltickets for CSAT-2014. No change in exam date. It’s same 24th august 2014, Sunday. No change in exam structure- same two papers. No change in negative marking, same 33%.

- any discrepancy in name, parent’s name, photo then send mail to web-upsc@nic.in
- You’ve to tick OMR answers only in BLACK pen. Otherwise you paper will not will evaluated.
- I recommend you bring clipboard. Reason: Sarkaari colleges and highschools have benches have rough surface and holes. It’ll “injure” your OMR sheet while you’re marking answer in black pen.
- if you’ve applied twice, then Use HIGHER REGISTRATION number while downloading the hallticket.
- If your hallticket doesn’t have clear photo/signature, you will have to bring a photo identity proof viz. Adhar Card, Driving License, Passport, Voter I Card etc. and two passport size photographs one for each paper with an undertaking.
- Save your own hallticket PDF file in google drive. So there is no fear of misplacing/forgetting roll number.

It seems UPSC is hell bent on tiptoeing the un-populist line. They should have shown some patience rather than throwing caution to the wind by issuing the admit cards. The issue was under deliberation and any action should have been taken after due consideration of everyone’s perspectives.
However, I think the onus of of all this turmoil lies upon our Government. Most of them have hardly shown any intension to cater to the needs of aggrieved student community. Only when the protests have taken a rather ugly shape( The unruly and violent behaviour of students last night cannot be justified under any circumstances) then they have taken cognisance of the matter. They should have exhibited some sense of responsibility by trying to clear the inhibitions related to exams much before rather than just a month to go for the exams. The real guys to blame are these politicians who have approached this matter in such casual manner.
There is not an iota of doubt that CSAT offers an unreasonable advantage to the so called English/Engineers and supposedly elite educated people who carry an image of being well versed with English. I am an Engineer and I have benefitted from CSAT too but I feel for the guys who are staging protests as they have a point. I say this because some really meritorious guys having expertise in Hindi are outsmarted in the Prelims itself, who are otherwise competent enough to clear mains and may be interview too. How is one supposed to clear an exam when the first obstacle itself is made nearly too difficult for him? Have the guys taking exams in Hindi language suddenly become so incompetent that their proportion in Final selection since 2011 has become negligible? This is an issue which needs appropriate analysis and any drastic measure under the guise of rationality cannot be justified.
It is also disheartening to see all the hoopla surrounding such a Prestigious exam on the basis of language. A short term solution might be reducing emphasis on comprehension and addition of decision making questions instead. Any long term solution needs collaborative discussions and taking note of Grievances of all sections of student community.
Mrinal sir, can any candidate change his or her choice of optional subject? I mean if one has chosen Sociology, can he or she change it to Economics while filling the application form for mains?

3 simple steps to end this CSAT controversy:
1. Reduce the weight age of CSAT paper by half(from 200 marks to 100 marks) or fix qualifying marks equal in percentage in both paper(let it be 35%).
2.Take comprehension in Hindi originally then translate it in english.
3.Introduce more innovative question on mental ability, reasoning ability and decision making ability which can test real administrative aptitude rather than sheer quant and practice sets aptitude.

There seems to be a typo in the question. Did you mean whisky is now one half MORE as much as water. Then we’ll get 96.

Now, how did this came to your mind? In what way age and attempt relaxation related with the present protest.
Nothing is going to be changed because of these stupid protests.. And UPSC is not a private firm that will ever take any action against all the candidates to take revenge of protest. So age relaxation, increment in number of attempts will not be effected. And as admit cards have also been issued, just focus on your studies as pattern of exam is also not going to be changed.

Cause for such a huge hue and cry is unwarranted and uncalled for, CSAT was introduced to test the Aptitude and analytical skills (not even 10th std level) which most of us are familiar with. IF not it can be learnt. even the people protesting know that. They are just finding reasons to make themselves comfortable, is it not essential to have a basic English reasoning capability in this Globalised ONE world. IT is an opportunity rather to learn, paving way for a prosperous career in Civil services, where regional, linguistic barriers can be overcome (atleast while communicating) through common language. We have already got our Independence and there is no battle to be won here by claiming yourself to be a Patriot only by supporting a single language(Monopolistic concept) which discourage Change. Without Change there is no Growth, and CSAT provided for such change, where in a education system which (for most part) only rewarded CUT, COPY PASTE. Common guys lets be realistic about this, this is one paper which can be purely solved by common sense, its the basic requirement which is tested here.. and by Scrapping CSAT is really discourages people who have basic reasoning and cant mug and reproduce.. That said I dont mean/Intent to discourage the latter.. both requires hard work and the problems with Hind translation is genuine which can be solved through constructive mechanisms, rather than resenting the change all together.

Yeah !!! that’s right. If no CSAT then I am in favor of removing of relaxation regarding age limits and attempts. I am 28 and in future I won’t be able to appear but the Committee is on top I respect them. I am not smarter than them. Best limit for maximum age should be dropped to 25 or 26. And I am not IItian but I know IIT or BA honors students of DU or BSC students of Hindu college are really smarter and efficient regarding studies. All engineers student’s are not good if they think that it’s one sided. The exam pattern kisses the person who is Intelligent and hardworker . Without Intelligence , hardwork is not that worth. Aptitude and reasoning is the only criteria to judge one’e intelligence.

Also it’s very hard to get admission in Miranda and DU main campus college .. agar tumhare andar frustration h to main kya karun… thodaa mehnat karo will power ko badhaao.. thoda KICK do apne aapko. Hope you will do your homework well before making such comment..No doubt IItians are one of the best brains of India but social science is always more complicated then the natural science..How much applicability of IIt knowledge is reqd to control a mayhem (as an IPS officer) or working with ministers or in diplomatic relations.Check the UPSc record you will come to know How many IItians infact used to fail twice or thrice even in PT in the pre Csat period i.e.before 2011..Some of them I know personally..Even today many IItians cannot crack PT even..Also check the final selection of last10 year atleast to consolidate your perception..till then good bye..

Madam, plz tell me the criteria to absorb best students from ur view. I know that many candidates who are even not able to qualify possess good knowledge from mains point of view , it’s other thing if they are not able to qualify or not. But more 10 K students possess the required knowledge which UPSC wants, now UPSC wants 1000 who are Intelligent too, so what should be done to absorb the best talented boys and girls. Even CAT doesnot asks the Economics question in CAT,, why?? I think as per u guyz they r fool. Having read all the comments made by my friends and after watching so much happenings over TV the whole day(even the Rajya Sabha proceedings) I have come to the conclusion that this debate has distracted itself and has taken the form of English Vs. Rest languages. But it should not be like that. The main concern according to me is the tiff between Humanities candidates Vs. Engineers/Management guys. This is not a language issue. If we say that Hindi is being discriminated upon then 22 other languages are also discriminated with. And if UPSC is going to set questions in all 22 languages and then conduct the mammoth task of interview with the experts of each language, do you guys think will that be feasible or practical? So its not at all a language issue. Now lets come to the CSAT part. I completely agree with those guys that each deserving candidate claiming a post must know the English of this standard and Aptitude/Reasoning of this level but why make a merit then. Lets make it qualifiying then it will become a leveller. But if a humanities candidate is required to compete with those CAT standard engineers and management guys then he/she will always be in a loss bcoz he/she is far behind after striving very hard. Myself being a humanities background candidate I am able to secure only 135-140 that too after toiling very hard for the last 8 months. Secondly, the comprehension passages, the translation of which are pathetic and mechanical , they are mostly related to environment and have a scientific and technical tilt. Here also the candidates of technical background have an edge over their humanities counterpart bcoz most of engineers and management guys come from English medium. Itna hi nahi GS paper 1 bhi highly scientific aur technical nature ka hota hai, full of environment and science. History ko hata ke culture ko poocha ja raha hai. Polity ke questions pata nahi kaha se banaye jaate hain jo itne debatablehain. I don’t know what is going on here. And lastly I want to ask my Engineer and management friends ki aap log CSAT ko na hatane ki demand kar rahe ho theek hai, par aap logo ko ye accept karna padega ki poora paper aap logo ke favour me banaya ja raha hai aur aap logo ko darr hai ki agar CSAT hat jata hai to uska nuksaan aap logo ko hoga. I cant find a logic that if I want to go in civil services then why should I study about speed/distance/time questions while the whole service is related to the social issues which I have been studying since class 11. I opted for humanities after 10th standard only bcoz I wanted to know the nuances of those issues which I would like to work for after completing my studies. Instead you technical background people should learn about the Federation and other social and political issues if u want to work as a civil servant. By no means I am deriding the profession of Engineers and Management (infact I have a deep respect for them) and if they come and beat a genuine humanities guys in these issues then I have no problem with them being a civil servant bcoz this is the nature of these civil jobs. Grass root level pe jaake insaan ki samajh aur muddo par uski jaankaari hi kaam aati hai naaki CSAT me poochi gayi Arithmatic aur reasoning…..one more thing that most of those agitating hindi medium protestors are from humanities background na ki science……
Mrunal.org comprehension part,Online English comprehension tutor, Several successful candidates, everyone has reiterated that English comprehension are from newspapers, magazines et al. How can anyone compare them to 10th grade books. Just because we hit 180 doesn’t stand case for students who never saw such curriculum. If i was at their place i would had resorted to such protest too. If MoP reduce the interview marks too, it will be the last bite they snatch out of these tyrants mouth. If you are reading this Mr Agarwal (which i believe is true), ponder whom you are lathicharging, come out of office n do something for humanity. Make benefit from your experience n knowledge instead of planning tactics.

The people who are protesting for changing the CSAT pattern are the ones who do not compete with the present pattern and are hiding their weakness through protest. If you are brave enough then compete with English and stop pointing fingers to UPSC. Even I was not selected last year in prelims due to CSAT English but atleast I am trying to show that nothing can stop a determined candidate from reaching his/her destination. Agar abhi se hi conditions se haarne lag jaaoge to baad mein badi responsibility kaise sambhaloge?
