Prologue
- IBPS had conducted online examinations for the post of Probationary officers/Management trainees throughout this October & November 2014.
- Based on the exam experience shared by the players, I have consolidated all the questions asked in different shifts and divided them section-wise so it will help all the future aspirants who are planning to attempt IBPS PO/MT in 2015.
- First and most important thing is to understand the exam-pattern: what type of questions are asked and from which book/newspaper? Then prepare accordingly. For example- SSC requires different approach than IBPS. CSAT requires different approach than IBPS and so on.
- if someone has cleared CSAT and he thinks IBPS will be a “pappu” exam, then he’ll be making a big mistake- same is true for the reverse case.
- Anyways, IBPS PO/MT online exam consist of 200 questions (each right answer=1 mark, wrong=negative 0.25)which had to be answered in 2 hours.
- There were five sections viz. Reasoning, English Language, Numerical Ability, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge.

| Sentence correction | 4-6 |
| Para jumbles | 4-6 |
#1.Reading Comprehension
Read the following passage and answer the questions below it. A few words are given in the bold form to help easy location while answering some questions.
The first of the Great Debates, between Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts and the incumbent Vice President Richard Nixon on September 26,1960, centered around domestic issues. The topic of the next debate, on October 7, was a clash over U.S. policy regarding two small islands off the Chinese coast, and on October 13, this controversy continued. On October 21, the final debate, the candidates focused on American/Cuban relations. Few of the 70 million viewers could have fathomed what this first-ever televised presidential debate augured, not only for this specific series of debates, but more importantly for the preeminent role the fledgling medium would play in the future of the political arena. A pallid Nixon arrived at the Chicago CBS studios after a gruelling day of campaigning. The previous August a knee infection had sidelined him. He was still twenty pounds underweight, and he perspired profusely in an ill-fitting shirt. Moreover, he declined makeup to burnish his hospital pallor. The freshly painted studio backdrop had dried to an ashen hue that obscured his matching suit. The Democratic contender by contrast exuded a robust glow after a month of campaigning in California. He had spent his day rehearsing potential questions and relaxing. An aide later admitted that he supplemented his natural glow with a smidge of makeup. He was fit, trim, and confident. Despite the remarkably similar agends and arguments of the Republican and the Democrat, TV viewers unequivocally believed Kennedy to be the victor – whereas people who had followed the debates on the radio held the opposite opinion. The age of TV had arrived, and the subsequent party shuffle proved the undeniable potency of television.
Q : The author is mainly concerned about which of the following?
- The debating styles of John Kennedy and Richard Nixon during the 1960 Great Debates
- The effect of television on the results of the 1960 Great Debates
- The health of Richard Nixon at the time of the 1960 Great Debates
- The number of television viewers who tuned in to the 1960 Great Debates
- None of the above
Q : According to the passage, which of the following was true of Richard Nixon?
- He had a five o’clock shadow during the first debate.
- He wore a brown suit during the first debate.
- He lost his job after the election.
- He warned of the impending Cuban crisis.
- None of the above
Q : In context of the above passage choose the word which is most similar in meaning to the given word: freshly
- Healthy
- Garnish
- Beautifully
- Recently

After a journey of over 660 million kilometres that took 10 months, India’s Mars Orbiter Mission has swept with effortless ease into orbit ___(1)__ the Red Planet, making this country the first to achieve such a feat in a maiden attempt. Probes despatched to Earth’s sibling planet over the last half a century have often run into trouble of one kind or another, with only less than half of those spacecraft ending the voyage successfully. Thus far, only the United States, the former Soviet Union and the European Space Agency have __(2)__ in doing so. India and its space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), now proudly join their ranks. Although ISRO could draw on its experience with the lunar probe, Chandrayaan-1, __(3)__ six years back, the challenges involved in sending a spacecraft all the way to Mars are far greater. That includes propelling the spacecraft with __(4)__ velocity to escape Earth’s gravitational grasp, guiding it along the proper trajectory over vast distances, and then slowing it down sufficiently to go into orbit around that planet. The spacecraft had to be capable of operating autonomously as communication signals to and from ground __(5)__ could take minutes to reach it. All of this has gone remarkably smoothly, including the orbit insertion manoeuvre with the spacecraft’s main engine, which had lain idle for almost 300 days. It is a tribute to ISRO and the professionalism of its scientists and engineers that every minute detail for such a complex mission could be attended to in the course of a project completed in just one and a half years. India’s Mars effort __(6)__ Rs.460 crore, an economical price tag by Western standards.

confusion regarding obc certificate date issue for ibps po 4 ……sir pls clarified..
my IBPS PO is scheduled to be held on 2nd nov….suggest me wht to focus more in each section of the exam….
First of all you have must remind that IBPS is an exam of overall+sectional performance, you have to clear both of them.
As you have asked what to focus more, my exam was on 11th.. here is the trend more morning session.
In general awareness, i think 20 questions were from current scenario.. i wld advise u to have an eye on last 2-3 mnths current.. Just go thru the E-mahendra’s fb page+Gr8ambitonz website(current affairs section).. you wld find more than sufficient.
one question from currency of whch country is sure short..
Maths: bro the most scariest section for me yet i was able to attempt 20 questions wd 95% accuracy.
15-20 question direct frm DI(practice practice and practice more).
time work/pipes- 2 question both were tricky.
rest don’t remember..
for english-20 question from comprehension(IBPS wale pagla gye hain… no question from find the error). From my side i wld advise just concentrate on accuracy rather than quantity in this section..
computer-bit easy… 8-10 question are frm basic…
Reasoning-10-15 question were frm puzzle like sitting arrangement, Five freinds like red blue colour and east mango banana like that stuff…
syllogism-5 questions pakka hain..
inequality-5 questions(very easy.. just do some practice)
all the best for ur exam… dont panic just try to concentrate on accuracy rather than the no of question attemtped( i attempt 93 with nearly 85-90 % accuracy)
god bless you
pls suggest how to prepare input machine type question in english segmants
1. General Awareness (40 questions)
Current affairs mainly from the last 6 months. e.g committees set by RBI- under whom and for what, mainly from the current affairs section with occasional questions from static part, nothing much from budget, tag lines of banks, not much from sports, 1 question from books & authors, 1 from sobriquets, 2-3 on bank related abbreviations-RTGS,NEFT, focus on some daily banking terms and conditions-dormant accounts, cheque system. Question was good. Last minute preparers may find it difficult as they‘ll go for only the banking related current affairs of last 2-3 months. Avoid absolute numbers-WPI, IIP…focus on who prepares it, time duration, etc. as it is an online exam, questions are quite frequently updated- in my session, no question on noble prize, but future candidate may get 1 from that part too.
2. Reasoning (50 Questions)
Questions from usual fields but with some twists. Sitting arrangement in square table, people facing in different directions, etc ;input-output too…syllogism- mainly on negation based=>more difficult; relation based questions in 2 segments=>more time taking; people-colour-hobbies based question-that too on negation=>more confusing. Relatively tuff as well as time consuming. My advice- better try to practice some difficult questions from book or through net, don’t over rely on previous year’s questions…they were quite easier.
3. Quantitative Aptitude (50 Questions)
Comprised of both DI and other regular part, but, DI was bit lengthy as more calculations, that too fractions; 3-4 questions from DI; plenty of series based questions- that too find the wrong one type=> lengthier.1-2 questions on Venn diagram.
4. English (40 questions)
2 comprehensions, followed by 10-12 questions. 1 easy, 1 tuff and lengthy. Vocabulary, phrases, synonym-antonym was from the comprehension only. Correct the sentences arrange the sentences; find the error …other usual stuffs. 1 fill in the blanks paragraph. This section was OK…will not be an issue for those who read an English newspaper daily. Read the lengthier paragraph carefully, else you’ll have to scroll it again and again=> time loss.
5. Computer (20 questions)
Mainly from MS-word/excel; OS, computer languages, CPUs based info. OK types…don’t be overconfident even if you may have studied computer from primary classes. You may know the (difficult) working details but you may not know the basics- naming, types, shortcuts, etc.
Bolbachan:- Sorry to say, but I wish the paper was tough for others too!! (As this would increase my chances) I could answer only 130 even after practising 4-5 sample papers after RBI-Assistant, which I had just 2 weeks back. My advice is going for Computer section->GA->English->reasoning/quanti. Else you may find insufficient time for the easier parts like GA, English and Computer. Be careful with the sectional cut-offs. Paper may be tuff- don’t panic (like me) or else you will end with attempting 5-7 less questions. One important thing- 200(50+50+40+40+20) ≠ 200(40 X 5). The 20 questions of Computer section that has been adjusted in Quanti and reasoning will upset your timings and emotions, if you don’t handle them well.
Best wishes
is there any problem for students who have done private graduation during po interview?
hi everyone…. i hv just taken ibps po 2014….i was a quite good experience…. exam was overall of moderate level…but with a good level in quant section…..reasoning, comp. and gk is ok….reading comprehension in eng. are tough and related to banking…so better be prepare of eng and quant section :) :)

Apart from above questions 6 more questions which i am able to recall from morning 18th oct session are as follows:
1. Merchant Banking is governed by?
2. Bank holidays governed by which act?
3. Maximum transaction limit in small bank account in a year?
4. Monthly pension limit increased to what amount under NPS?
5. RBI permitted licence to Tata payment solutions limited for setting up what?
6. Money market short term and long term instruments tenure maximum upto?
Will post more questions when i recall them.
There were 2 medium length passages in English, with 10 questions each, including ones wherein you need to find a synonym or antonym of a given word. There were about 6 q related to rearrangement of sentences in a paragraph. There were a few questions on sentence correction as well.
Coded inequalities, quadratic equations, data sufficiency had about 4-5 questions each, while there was one question each on CI-SI, time and work, boat speed in running and still water, mixtures, percentage, basic geometry, etc
No non-verbal reasoning, syllogism, sitting arrangement, input-output, strengthening and negating arguments, data sufficiency, blood relations, direction test, etc
Comp was easy, can’t recollect many questions from GA
There was one on partner of SBI for life insurance, Mogadishu is the capital of, P-notes, FII full form, White label ATM’s, Increase in minimum pension amount, venture capitalists, mtss full form, location of indian institute of tropical meteorology, etc
Pri exam planning by me
First start from GA & Computer – 30 min.
Then English – 30 min.
Quanti – 30 min
Reasoning – 30 min
IN Exam
As pri planned I started from GA –
Questions are easy just language is hard.JK.Capsule is enough.I appeared 31 Qe.
Then computer Also not hard just twisted in language.I appeared 17 Qe.
To both GA & Comp. I spend 25 min.
After that English-
10 Fillers are easy. Also 5 Sentese Corrections are easy.As u must to solve 20 questions of English only choice left is 5 Qe. on Sentence Arrangement because there are 2 Paragraphs containing 20 Qe.so u r choise is to solve any 1 para.or sentence arrangements. but friends it is not easy at all.Total 7 sentence are given which are much confusing I am very shame to say that I spend 10-15 min.on this.I spend 35 min.on 20 Qe.on Eng.
Then Quanti –
DURING practice at home I solve 25-30 que. But in exam questions on Data Interpretation are much Harder and much much time consuming..
I solve 5 que.of DI on grapes w icky are relatively easy, and 5 other easy like direction, and other For.
There are 5 que.on number series.
Also on work-time,boat,
One que.which has 3 sub que. takes my much time but the calculation by me takes wrong..so waste of time
Total I solve only 10 que. In 30 min.
Last Reasoning It is Also much hard this time..
I attempt 3 que. On relation of X and Y which are easy.
There is no Data sufficient Questions. Parallel sitting arrangement is so much confusing, syllogism is easy for me 3 que.On that. Last Input-Output which looks easy is first look but little confusing here I miss..I solved all step but I miss a thing and hole steps gone wrong so again waste of time.que. pattern on I-O Also change they don’t ask u what is the 2/5 step instead they ask u what is the position of some no/word with respect to other no/word in 2/5 step..so prepare for hard and look the change as news in given que. Carefully and then go to solve questions….I attempt only 10 que.in 25 min.
In total I solve
GA-31,Comp.-17,Eng.-20,Reas.-10 & last Math.-10.Total-88
Best Luck Friends & Prepare For Hard…

sorry frens forgot many Qs.. but i didnt find any question based on policy rates, economic growth rates, percents such trivial affairs. over all GA was average. u can damn sure attend 30 questions.
coming to DI part:

some 5 questions related to something like ” a city consist of x0000 population. 20% of them women, 4/5 men etc” bit lengthy.
others miscellaneous with percentages and other stuffs.
then english:
two heavy paragraphs. one easy, other is pure economy, Qs are tricky take time to read the paras only once, then ans it. some 20 Qs from 2 paras. others related to finding mistakes antonyms synonyms like stuff, u can surely cope up except those hefty paras. plz read para only once try to understand the essence of those para and attend Qs.
Reasoning:(the ultimate one!!)
min 25 ques related to postions arrangements, square table(4 sitting corner 4 center type), cirular table, persons with 2 parameters like days and activities ( like interest in dance music etc) you can arrange one set surely,, others will take time,, but just give a try.. cant escape,, ha ha…then as usual syllogism(4 statements), inequalities(6), arrangements shifting(6Qs)
Computer:
easier one… basic one.. damn sure 20.
in total 104.. i attended 20DIs, 30Eng,24GKs,20comp,but only 10 DI:(.. not satisfactory. poor time mgmt regarding DIs.. so frens plz try solving more and more DIs.. varietier ones.. ALL THE VERY BEST..
sorry frens i attended only 10 reasoning(hope all correct).. mistakenly mentioned as 10 DIs.. anyway mediocre performance watsoever:)

Reasoning/Quant: One of the key point which I came to know today is that you have to know your strenghts and weaknesses. You have to know which questions you have to attempt so that once you start you finish with a perfect solution. Overall the reasoning and quant sections were difficult.
Computers: This was the most easy section in the whole exam. 50% questions were very basic.
English: If your strength lies here you are surely going to attempt 30+ here.
General Awareness: This section was moderate. If you haven’t read newspaper regularly, go for monthly current affairs August onwards.
and also thanx a lot to mrunal.org for their valuable guide and will request you to update the analysis of all the exams and specially interview preparation series of ibps po
my exam was on 18th Oct afternoon session
