Sir, do we need to get certificates attested or self attestation is valid?
Self certification is valid.
You can write “Certified” along with your signatures and it would be valid.

Is this thing mentioned anywhere in the instructions pdf that self-attestation will suffice ? Or are we assuming ?
Assuming nothing.. its written in the instructions.. attestation or certification.. it doesnt say anything regarding someone who should attest or certify.. i have filled the form earlier as well. And write the date along with your signatures on the copies.. list of documents required is given in the instructions. Read carefully.

Its clearly mentioned in the instructions that
” Candidates are required to submit alongwith their applications only copies of certificates
mentioned in Paragraphs 18 and 19 above, attested by a Gazetted Officer of the Government or
certified by candidates themselves as correct.”(PAGE 9 OF INSTRUCTIONS).
so you can go for any option.

Its is written that u need to sign on the attested copies of ur certificates. Means get it attested and then sign on it. That what I did to be on the safe side.
I have a doubt while filling the DAF for Mains.
Under the Personal information Tab, in Physically Challenged category (NO), did every one getting ‘Multiple disability’ and ‘Less than 40%’ automatically.
i had the same problem. i went to upsc and talked with them. they said that it was a technical issue and it is resolved.

hi …in obc annexture upsc has asked to mention the pay scale of all the position held by my parents.. the
pay scale was 920-20-1760 when my father joined the post in 1991 but now it is 10000-500-
21000…….which one should i mention there…??
You should mention what it was at the time your father held that position, and not the present.
Your payscale would be the current payscale. Always.
I did mistake while filling form….i gave input as 1 2 etc instead of 01 02. Will there be any problem?

I am confused regarding the rule 7 which says “A candidate must hold a degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.”
And the “18” number point in instructions says “A candidate must submit along with this form an attested/certified copy of a certificate (mind it certificate i.e. degree, not the statement of marks) showing that he has one of the qualification prescribed in Rule 7. The certificate submitted must be one issued by the authority (i.e. University or other examining body) awarding the particular qualification.”
And the problem is that I’ve completed my graduation from Delhi University (Seriously, this is the only problem), 2012 batch. And the university had issued only the statement of marks. I’ve also inquired about the degree but they have not arrived yet, and there is a very less chance of their arrival. Is there anyone who is also suffering from Delhi University? Or someone who had suffered earlier and came out with a JUGAD? Anyone? Kindly Help. Thankyou.
I guess there is some timeline. your case is not intricate, as you already completed your grad back in 2012. Whereas some last year students also appear in exam ; say Roman saini air-18 cse2013 . So worry less and study more. post on forumias a new thread or try to search any older, contact Mr saini. he definitely will answer it , through email . mind it not through fb comments

This year there was an a guy who just left it blank. His interview went fine.
Problem arises when you lie, don’t prepare that lie enough to own it & get caught.
There is this myth that one candidate wrote gardening & he was actually taken to the garden, this may be an urban legend, but the upsc building in fact has a garden inside the interviewing area, they are concentric circles, (semi circular)
So keep it simple & don’t lie blindly, relate it to anything you may be interested in.
Make sure you ever the data in a manner that a Khadoos boss can read & understand immediately. Don’t try to show off, be humble.
You never know what they ask, so just chill, take one complete week to fill your form.
Always remember do not panic if you forget a document. Unless you don’t you a major typographical ever, they’ll ask for that document during interview. Mr Farid himself sends a letter asking for all document you make need, even for affidavit in case there is a minor issue with parents name e.g: J.P.Beatles instead of Jude Prudence Beatles or vice versa.

iF YOU decide that you are unable to come with with any hobby (Decision must be well informed, independent and firm, don’t blame the random internet guy for misguiding you) then write “No specific hobby”
In interview major focus on – What is your graduation,PG course and then from there onwards any thing that you say can and will be used against you in the chamber of UPSC.
Although, I was grilled over my hobby. When it is actually something you love, you have nothing to worry about but when you cook up a hobby, then own that lie, what the heck, start doing it after mains exam.Simple.
A stray thought that i just recalled.
Madam Rajni Razdan ask’s such question on hobby, e.g Your hobby is cooking, name 5 kitchen herbs. Simple then she would ask nothing more. Sometimes, people grill you until you either hit bulls eye, or break under pressure.
Blogging can be safest; majority of students started mentioning this and board almost pooh pooh it. it is an idea . not a suggestion. Dont leave it empty (personalesttt suggestion); Shah faesal in interview when asked this question, he said “time milta hai to abhi facebook ka zor hai, thoda time uspe spend kar lete hai” . dont take a notion that if i write music , they will ask about carnatic and hindustani ; gone are those days.

In my DAF in the pre filled blanks my marital status is given as married when I’m not and I don’t remember filling it up as that either . I’ve tried calling upsc no ones picking up . What should I do ?

Self attestation bro; Even if you get it attested by governor of your state, that defies whole logic of self attestation (i.e yes i stand behind veracity )which the government came out with last month.

the obc certificate has to be from competent authority only. but u don’t have to go home.tell someone at home to get it certified by officer and send its print to u somehow. u will need that original one at the time of interview only.:-)

Haven’t you already done that when you filled Pre form. You don’t need to inform at every step ( I didn’t), you only inform during Pre, It is a single process, some make it to step 2, some don’t. Mains isn’t a different exam, it’s still the same exam which is divided into multiple steps.
In case you did not inform your employer then do it now. As far as UPSC is considered it only wants you to inform.
If you do not inform then you may end up in trouble when you are quiting after selection, or like, you are called for a training and the days are clashing with exam days, suddenly you write to your boss explaining why you can’t attend, your boss verifies that info with your personal file and in it, he does not find’s the application of declaration. Now you end up in trouble.
These are rare cases, but why take risk? What if they don’t release you on time for joining?
Besides, you will probably fill “curtrently employed” in DAF, then again you are brewing trouble. Many nested if { else}} cases with switch int c; operator

Your very presence on the DAF page is proof of you clearing the Prelims. You dont have to submit anything else.

It won’t count as an attempt if you don’t appear for prelims.

00) Even an internet copy is accepted; i.e any intermediate marksheet is accepted. These all matter at time of interview. Even if some problem arise in any of your certificate, they will call you again after sending letter and mails.
01) no noc is required by upsc, this is bestest thing. but it is good to inform your office, as they dont do drama at last time
02)no certificate nothing required of any experience. Just write “nasa scientist ” they will evaluate at time of interview .
03) medical test will be done at center alloted by upsc ; you have to nothing to do with this except staying healthy
and yes SELF ATTESTATION . pls respect govt. rules

My only advice to those filling up daf for da first tym is dis is one of the most important thing which might decide everything during the interview i had a bitter experience of that in last year interview where i was grilled over some of the things in my daf so be careful
