Question from a Visitor
Could you please tell me what should I study for the post of Assistant Commissioner of Employee provident fund I have checked the syllabus but if you could tell me what should I study(I mean reference books etc.).
Readymade books for APFC exam
- Exams like APFC are not taken at regular interval, so whenever such exam comes, some bogus moneyminded publication houses, just copy paste few paragraphs and pages related to the syllabus topics, from other books and publish a Guidebook for APFC exam, containing 300 pages!
- After 1 month, These people will just change the book cover release the same content for Sales Tax inspector’s exam! Therefore such bogus quality readymade books or study material does not serve much purpose.
- Reason: Many candidates also prepare simultaneously for UPSC, State PSC, Banks, SSC and similar jobs therefore competitive level is always very high. You need to have your basic concepts clear and foundations strong. Don’t try to look for shortcuts using such readymade books. (Same Advice for RBI officer, LIC AAO and other similar exams.)
Cost Factor
The General Studies Manual (TMH, Unique, Spectrum) are quite expensive. They’re written for UPSC exam hence very thick and heavy. But the entire manual is not relevant for APFC exam, you’ve to do selective study of only a few topics. So better just borrow it from some friend or try to get an old copy.
Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC) comprises the following major topics/ broad areas.
The medium of the test will be both English and Hindi.
Paper 1 General English
The questions in General English component of the test will be designed to evaluate candidate’s understanding of English language and workman-like use of the words.
Please go through the separate article on ( how to prepare English for APFC exam. Click Me)
Paper 2 General Studies
Note: whenever I mention NCERT, know that it is legally downloaded for free, in Hindi or English from the official website of NCERT (http://www.ncert.nic.in/ )
Now talking about specific topics under Assistant Provident Fund manager’s exam.

| Current Events |
|
| Indian Culture Heritage |
|
| Freedom Movements |
Note: Syllabus clearly says “Freedom movement” so read only Post-1857 period, no need to read Ancient (Harappa) or Medival (Mughals). |
| Population | Don’t know, what exactly this means! May be Human Geography class 11/12 book of NCERT could help. |
| Development and Globalization | See if there are some pdf files on www.egyankosh.ac.in (you’ll need to register there to download files, but it is free.) |
| Governance and Constitution of India | The best book ever written: relevant for all exams Indian Polity by M.Laxmikanth (TMH Publication) Thorough revision for 5-7 times. Do all mock questions given at the end of his book. |
| Present Trends in Indian Economy |
You may also use
NOT Recommended Books: Mishra Puri, Dutt Sundaram, Uma Kapila. Because they’re written from academic point of view, we only need some basic and essential concepts from “Exam point of view”. Similarly I donot recommend Pratiyogita Darpan’s “Special” book on Indian Economy for its obsession with numbers and other trivial information. |
| Accountancy and Auditing | Use National Open School (NOS) material: Click MEYou can use NCERT books. I think class 11/12 has these subjects.OR search www.egyankosh.ac.in (may be in BA/MA Economics section) Or if they’re asking deep questions, you may use Unique Publication’s book on “Commerce” optional subject for UPSC. It has elaborate chapters on Audit and Account. |
| Industrial Relations & Labour Laws | Search www.egyankosh.ac.in |
| Insurance | OR search www.egyankosh.ac.in |
| Basic Knowledge of Computer Applications | If you’re comfortable with computers, then I don’t think any special preparation is required. Else use NCERT’s books on Computer (may be class 10,11,12) or may be Pdf files from www.egyankosh.ac.in for any certificate courses on computer. |
| General Science | NCERT class 7 to 10 (Freely downloaded from official site) (for additional grip) Science portion from Tata Macgrawhill General Studies Manual. |
| Geography | NCERT Class 7 to 10 (Social Science) + Class 11-12 (Geography) should be more than sufficient. And then you may solve the MCQs given in the (for additional grip) GS Manual. |
| Elementary Maths & Statistics | Many people appear for IBPS and SSC have really good grip over aptitude portion. They’ll also appear for Asst. Provident fund. Hence competition becomes really tough. One should be thoroughly prepared for maths and aptitude topic.
The standard reference books for aptitude would be (relevant for any exam starting from Bank Clerk to CAT) However, if you don’t have so much time to go through both of above books, may be you can use IBPS Manual of Disha Expert |
| General Mental Abilities | Same as above. |
There are only two rules to crack this exam
- For Non-aptitude (history, polity etc) Revise – revise – revise
- For aptitude (math,logical reasoning) practice- practice-practice.

my omr boolet series code is 89834 and my age is 25 and omr series number will be according to increasing order of age and hence the total number of applicants will be around 2 lakhs ( approx)
gr8…i never knew this concept…
still the maximum age limit is 35 and many of the aged people too must have given the exam…dont you think the applicants could be around 5 lakhs…in 2004 the applicants were about 4 lakhs…
I dont think so because the gap between opening of applications and clossing of applications is only 20 days and most of the tough candidates are not aware of this exam because they were busy with their CSP-12.
i dont thinnk ur concept works. coz what will upsc do with blank omr sheets(due to absentee candidates). they will use it for next exam surely
Ignorance is Bliss ! Mr. Rajesh first know the correct answers then calculate your marks !
i dont believe you
ur just creating hype
pls tell , i belong to ST category and i hv genuinely scored 45% , would it be possible for me to clear the cut off? plz comment on this ……..
shakil you may clear the test as the general cut off will be around 50-55 and moreover ur having reservation and hence u may clear the exam ,all the best
MY TOTAL SCORE IS 50 AFTER NEGATIVE MARKING I M BELONGS 2 SC CATEGORY……..WHT IS MY CHANCE ANY IDEA?
be 100% sure….u’ll clear written…..prepare for interview
but kuch log to kah rahe hai ki cutoff 70+ tak jaiyegi kyonki paper kafi easy tha……….wht do u think about that?
You may be true but I can assure you those who are saying they are getting 80+ are boasting…i have many candidates jumping after the exam but once they match the keys they cool-off…
80+ score hats off guys. but still i would say kinnly check ur answers it would be good for all those who r scoring more then 60, tc .
80 + score they can open a coaching institute which will be good for there future.
Hemant
My score is 55 and am OBC will i be called for interview? Please reply.
..
I interacted with some of my colleagues. They scored like 56, 62, 69, 70, 71, 44, 46 etc. UPSC will call for only three times of the vacancy advertised (obc total seats=63, gen =135). If you consider the vacant seats, candidates appeared and net score of some people is more than 70. Considering the All India level, I think OBC cut off will not be less than around 64-65. Good luck.
55 is good score u must prepare for interview. gd luk .
Hi, I am preparing for civil services. I answered all of them but not without negative ones! I got 21 wrong. Will I clear?

rakesh,i will pass .if u tell me,i will write down upsc apfc exam, after u all shall write first of all.i am in general category not in sc or st category.
i have guts.
read upsc apfc roll no.
Mr. Rakesh i think u people are extra terrestrial …upsc is not looking for aliens apfc is not a specialist job..any one who is able to impress the interview board will get good marks it is d combined mark which wll b decisive.. Read the d notice meretorious candidates may be offered high initial pay..dont demoralise others.. Desired qualification may fetch u few extram marks only not more than 5..secondly do u think that all those who hold the desired qualification will qualify.. and yet the world goes
“Read the d notice meretorious candidates may be offered high initial pay..dont demoralise others…” where is this written…
It is given in the official notification of UPSC Page 12, point number (i), Employment News 14 – 20 April 2012

how can any body get 57.77
that time there was negative marking of 1/3 rd.got it.
first of all as intimated above there was no -ve marking secondly if at all it was then it must be .33 i.e score must be either 57.66 or 57.33 multiple of.33
Enjoying reading the comments.Mr Rakesh really scared me.But given what usually happens in upsc exams(People estimating over 80 percent dont clear while those estimating 50 60 percent go through, dont know how but this is wat happens.Several braggers after their pre wd have nowhere to hide once the results r out.
haha i agree wid u
Rakesh ko chhod do bhaiyon….he is just speaking his colleagues words, may be his colleagues have mislead him…
market price is always higher then normal price.
source ? any link ?
no market price tends to equal normal price…
http://mywhatis.com/distinctions-between-market-price-and-normal-price/
@Smishra sirji in economics the normal price is that at which demand and supply match each other.now market price hovers around the normal price,so it tends towards the normal price while it neednt be the same as the latter:)
So answer is C ?

Hi ……
i belong to ST category and with a very conservative approach i m getting 40 percent marks ……can any one tell me that what r my chances of getting selected ?
u r on d border line
i think it would be around 45+ for ST..u r almost out…
how can anybody get 57.77 marks , more over there was no -ve marking in 2002 http://cic.gov.in/CIC-Orders/Decision_01092006_1.pdf
ya even i got the same doubt
there was negative marking of 1/3.so,upsc cannot be wrong.
perhaps they have deducted 0.33 marks rather than 1/3 marks…so thats the key to that number…
Got it frens…its written in the instructions 0.33 marks will be deducted…
So this means 0.33 * 31 = 10.23
And he must have done total 99 questions out of which 68 correct and 31 wrong
So, it makes 68 – 10.23 = 57.77
gud
Hi… I belong to SC and I am getting around 65(+/-3) after verifying majority of the answers from internet and after counter checking with various keys from the net. What are my chances for getting an interview call?
if u r sc n u have 65 marks then with out ny doubt u will qualify, so need to worry abt the result.
