Finally, UPSC has declared the result for CSAT-prelim-2013 (for both IAS and IFS). Earlier The result system was= you enter your roll number and the UPSC website would tell you whether you’ve passed or not. But this time, UPSC adopted the desi method (uploaded PDF file that contains big list of roll numbers)

Back in 2010, a lady from Chennai committed suicide for failing in prelims, Even in CSE-2012 a guy from Banglore committed suicide. Please remember that setbacks and success will come but life is more precious than one exam, government job, girlfriend, boyfriend or (temporary) nagging of parents/relatives.

When I started (UPSC preparation), I always dreamt about what I would do once I am a civil servant. I failed the first time. That’s when things changed. Thereafter, I was more concerned about how to clear this exam than about what I would do once I become a civil servant. The question as to ‘why’ I wanted to be a civil servant was relegated to some back corner of my mind. It was the exam and it was me. Years rolled by. Until this happened. I was too old for this exam and out of attempts.
(So) I am back in industry. My career is progressing well. Biwi and baby are fine. Life has changed. Priorities have changed. And I am moving on.
The job, the workload, project deadlines, cafeteria, cubicle, bitching about the HR policies and the wait for the next weekend. It’s all there. However, there’s one difference. I had the courage to risk it all. I once did. I lost the bet. And I know that I have the courage to build my dreams once more. Brick by brick, I will build. I believe this is my takeaway from this exam, where I didn’t, ‘qualify’…….I spent a lot of time wondering why I didn’t make it to civil services. In retrospect it looks so stupid of me to even think that I failed. I now look back with a smile…It must have been fun while it lasted. I now work in the field of aerospace with one of the biggest aeroplane makers in world, and I am proud to be an engineer.

Congratulations. What next?= You’ll have to fill up a separate form for the mains examination known as DAF (Detailed application form)
It will be an online application form, you fill it up, take printout and post it to UPSC, New Delhi along with photocopies of necessary documents and fees.

Expected 245 to 254.from wizard’s key.not in the pdf of successful candidates.those who calculated 240 with the same key,all cleared.took all doubtful answers as negative.calculated the minimum lowest scores only n got it as 245.too surprised to hear if someone in general category expecting 220 -225 cleared the exam.

Neena. is it 219 or 319? have you checked any other answer keys like Gktoday, Vajiram ravi and others. Please put your analysis on expected score. Because many candidates who were expecting 235-240 (General category) have failed in prelims. So what would be reason do you think? This question is to know the truth. what is the use of being aware of your score and keys in 2014,u wont be able to identify areas you ve to improve nor the time to do it.just another reason to lament for a week.
I have cleared Prelims..had a score of 235-245 ……. Thanks Mrunal sir… I do agree with friends that Prelims has become a joke in CSAT scenario… The Dilemma for UPSC is that… easy questions lead to a meteoric rise in cut-off.. which eliminates many candidates who can be a force to reckon with in the subsequent stages of this prestigious exam…. Many of my friends from BHU, Varanasi and JNU, New Delhi hv failed in Prelims 2013….

Mrunal Sir,I lost the upsc prelims 2013 battle in my last attempt.Anyway I thank u humbly for ur excellent guidance thru ur website.I have missed service by 21 marks in 2010.I belonged to SC category(I scored GS PAPER1=153,GS PAPER 2=83,MEDICAL SCIENCE PAPER1=159,PAPER2=162)ANTHROPOLOGY PAPER1=136.PAPER2 =175,ESSAY=43,INTERVIEW=140).That was my first and the last interview,Since the introduction of CSAT i could not clear prelims for the third consecutive time.In 2013 prelims my expected score was 207,still could not clear.I have improved from 167 in 2012 prelims to 207 by regularly following ur articles.
Even though Iam working as a Medical Officer in Tamilnadu state medical Service,still Iam not able to recover from the agony for the last 2 days.So,it is my humble request that u carry forward ur guidance to lakhs of civil service aspirants.Please inforn the aspirants to have a plan of action for their life in case an aspirants could not suceed in getting any service in civil services.
My sincere advice to all the aspirants,is that please put ur best efforts to clear the civil service.Do intelligent hard work

I understand your situation, but i think there might b some error in your preparation. I will tell my case. Last year I appeared for Prelim without studying much (i.e. 1 month only) I got Paper-I 70 and Paper- II 97 – 167. So cudnt qualify. For one day I got lost but from the next day again i thought that this is my first attempt and I will start from fresh. Now this time I changed my strategy, I read everything not a single topic left. I also studied rigorously for mains before prelims. And practised CSAT paper 2 also. So I was rigorous in preparation for CSAT 2013 for mains and pre. After exam I was expecting 270 marks. And I cleared too. U can see difference in marks scored in 2012 nd 2013 which is around 100 marks. So even if cutt off goes high or low by practising we r always on the safer side. And after clearing prelims we sud always think that this is the Last attempt so that u can put your best in it.

To be honest I’ve given it just because my friends were appearing for the same. I went for exam for just enjoying a trip without even knowing the syllabus. Now that I’ve cleared the Preliminary exam, I really don’t know what to do.
After searching on net I come across your Blog.Sir, Is it possible to crack Mains with study of 3-4 months? Should I go for it ? Do I have any chances? What should I do?

For OBC cut off must be above 230 as I am getting 226 and could not clear.
It is obvious that the candidates who have been selected for IFS Main exam and has applied for ICS Exam has surely and certainly cleared ICS prelims too.
It is an open secret that in the district of India IFS is a far far substandard service looking to the criteria of working and position in the society….
UPSC has done ill and wrong decision making, because the decision has been taken in mechanical manner without applying mind only on the basis of mathematical calculations and it is not so simple maths.
They have made cut off of IFS Exam pre higher than ICS exam which means opportunity of candidates applying for IFS has been reduced drastically, therefore its a violation of Art 14 & 16 of constitution of India,
because at mains level if candidates will be selected in both the exams, then they will leave IFS reducing the opportunity of left out candidates.
For ICS if we assume against 1000 posts nearly 16000 candidates have cleared the prelims, on the contrary for near about 80 posts of IFS only 1053 candidates have cleared the prelims, than these(IFS) candidates have scored much higher marks than that of ICS candidates, therefore cut off must be declared by adding both the no. of post viz. ICS 1000 + IFS 80 =1080, means over all cut off for both the exams should be one. It means at least 25000 should be taken or whatsoever the criteria may be for cut off.
Thus the qualifying list for both the exams must be one and the same, because both the sets of candidate have been assessed on the same pedestal

Now what will happen is people are going to leave IFS and go for IAS because in IFS you have to prepare two Science subjects in mains….. which no IAS aspirant takes esp. after changing of rules( i.e. they take only one subject and that will not be a science subject I can bet on that)…. They are making it harder for IFS at pre level and easier at mains by reducing the competition….. see there are only 38 core IFS candidates….. Can you imagine??? only 1000 candidates all over india??? Is this a joke?? really??

dont understand on what basis upsc selected ifos candidates . . . people who are in both the lists (90%) will offcourse not prepare for i.FO.S and competetion will be among those remaining 100 members . . . is this what upsc meant for “QUALITY” . . . missed out the simplest lozic . . . god save upsc
i have to admit that i was not quite sure of clearing the prelims as i was scoring low(225-230,gen cat).but luckily in the end i made it through.feeling very lucky

UPSC does not announce the marks sheet until the whole examination process is completed. We will have to wait till 2014 for that.

According to cut-off of IFoS exam 2013. I Think, For IFoS exam UPSC have two option—
1.Either IFoS should be merge with IAS exam i.e there is no separate main exam for IAS and IFoS
or
2. There should be separate prelims exam for IFoS.
I THINK THR SUD BE SEPRATE PRELIMS FOR IFO…BCZ JOB PROFILE IS ENTIRLY DIFFRENT AS ONE IS ADM ONOTHER IS BASICALY ENV FOREST CONSERVATION….!WAT A BAD LUCK THIS TIME FOR MANY IFS SERIOUS CANDFIDATES….
