Finally, UPSC has declared the result for CSAT-prelim-2013 (for both IAS and IFS). Earlier The result system was= you enter your roll number and the UPSC website would tell you whether you’ve passed or not. But this time, UPSC adopted the desi method (uploaded PDF file that contains big list of roll numbers)
I’m uploading the same PDF files on google docs (because UPSC server will become slow as hell for a few days). click on the following links:
- Result: IAS/IPS/Civil Service candidates: click me to see result (~15000 selected)
- Result: IFS candidates: click me to see result (~1000 selected)
- Forgot roll number?Click me but you’ll need registration id
@Those who didn’t qualify
Try again next year with full strength, rectifying whatever shortcomings you had in your preparation. And if this was your last attempt, then my best wishes for all your future endeavors.
Back in 2010, a lady from Chennai committed suicide for failing in prelims, Even in CSE-2012 a guy from Banglore committed suicide. Please remember that setbacks and success will come but life is more precious than one exam, government job, girlfriend, boyfriend or (temporary) nagging of parents/relatives.
I take the liberty of copy pasting a few paragraphs from Mr.Tirumala’s blogspot:
//Start of copypaste//
When I started (UPSC preparation), I always dreamt about what I would do once I am a civil servant. I failed the first time. That’s when things changed. Thereafter, I was more concerned about how to clear this exam than about what I would do once I become a civil servant. The question as to ‘why’ I wanted to be a civil servant was relegated to some back corner of my mind. It was the exam and it was me. Years rolled by. Until this happened. I was too old for this exam and out of attempts.
(So) I am back in industry. My career is progressing well. Biwi and baby are fine. Life has changed. Priorities have changed. And I am moving on.
The job, the workload, project deadlines, cafeteria, cubicle, bitching about the HR policies and the wait for the next weekend. It’s all there. However, there’s one difference. I had the courage to risk it all. I once did. I lost the bet. And I know that I have the courage to build my dreams once more. Brick by brick, I will build. I believe this is my takeaway from this exam, where I didn’t, ‘qualify’…….I spent a lot of time wondering why I didn’t make it to civil services. I thought I will carry the burden of this failure all my life and will never get over this….That’s not so. I moved on, (and) quite well to my own surprise, I must say. In retrospect it looks so stupid of me to even think that I failed. I now look back with a smile…It must have been fun while it lasted. I now work in the field of aerospace with one of the biggest aeroplane makers in world, and I am proud to be an engineer.

My dear aspirants,
Of all this, all said and done, guys kindly introspect where you have gone wrong.. There is no room for golmaal in UPSC.. Its known for its credibility and it is far more trusted that any of the SPSC’s.. When I checked my answer keys last year i was getting around 198 and the cut off for obc was 194.. I dint make it.. When UPSC had given out the prelims marks, I only had scored 152.. A difference of 46 marks. Recouped and drew out following conclusions:
1. I had marked some other answer in the OMR and marked some other in my question paper. So UPSC stands correct here for not selecting an overlooker like me.
2. There is a different answer key for some questions given by UPSC vis-a-vis the ones of coaching factories. So I am in the process of finding out which source UPSC considers authentic. Till now, all I could decipher is: Crap wikipedia(anybody can edit and fool you) and not always is The Hindu correct in stating facts. The Hindu is excellent for analysis and giving a perspective(usually the one which goes against the government). Only government websites are to be relied upon.
I hope all of us learn that when we dont clear prelims, the lacunae is within our ownselves. I am sure all of you would agree after looking at your respective marks, cut offs, and answer keys of UPSC. Not body will then dispute, no one will then question. It would all be self explainatory and you would then become submissive.
I gave UPSC in 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013. I have still not cleared prelims. In My first two attempts, my preparation dint even know that NCERT existed :).. the recent two attempts were serious ones.. but still could not make it.. But after seeing so many failures in UPSC, SBI bank P.O, RBI, god knows what makes me write this article here and console the aspirants. Its probably because the same god feels someone somewhere is sitting and still weeping about the failure. I am sure this short story of mine would in someway muster courage in atleast one person reading this. I am glad to write UPSC.. I am just loving the exam process now. I have a dream.. an exam to clear and one day I shall blog up here and write my story to success. We shall all write in here =, provided we learn and correct our mistakes, instead of just blaming UPSC. And btw I work as a Manager in an I.T firm in Bangalore.
Hi friends,
I m some way agree with Amit. Because, it is quite clear from the gradual increase in cut off of prelims and gradual reduction in cut off in mains exam of civil services examination. I was graduated fro IIT Bombay in 1984(19 years back). Today I m a bureaucrat in state cadre in a northern state and every year I look at the cse papers with my interest. But i m very surprised to tell u all, that UPSC is gradually on a way of colonial attitude biasing towards the rich.If a person of my age (45+) can score 170+ in the second paper of CSAT-2013, then u imagine, what a student who is preparing or selected in IIMs can score. So where is the balance ??? To become a civil servant ,u need a service attitude, knowledge with a broad out look and definitely a minimum level of aptitude is essential but its illogical when some one is selected in the screening process by virtue of his aptitude and intelligence only. The preliminary process was inculcated in order to weed out non serious candidates from the race. but from 2011 it has somehow become a process to weed out serious candidates….
this is the pity with the system.
i totally agree u sir
Agree with you
@Dr. Pavan,
I think u r from lucknow…
Ye tumhara 4th attempt tha..
Aur tum hamesha jhuth bolte aaye ho ki tumhara pre me ho gaya hain.
Kyu?
Kya mil jata hain..
Yaaar real bano dost
If u r nt 4m lko..pls dnt mind
sir i am successfully disqualified in csp 2013 no issues self motivation is my key but plz anyone help me out in studying for prelims i was confused in gs paper one scored only 65 and 130 in paper 2 paper bhi simple tha to shame on me fir bhi abhi pre ke liye kaise padhu plz koi bata do yaar bahut disturb hu
bhai,
next year ke liye padhna hai to mains ke liye padho .
lekin PRE ke liye saath-2 padho. strategy should be—clear your concepts of GS(as Q are confusing these days)-they should be rock solid in clarity as well as understood so well AS IF you have crammed. revise kero GS ko baar-2.
aur paper 2 mein 130 is not enough for the simple paper that was set. so work on that also .see where the problem lies–comprehension or analytical part. weakness ko samajhna bohot zaruri hai. i’m nt gud at planning but without it everything else is nothing. so work on your weakness.

this is the pity with the system and the more pity is that every one is a mute spectator….
Some observations from the roll numbers of candidates who successfully qualified in the exam.
The overall pass rate is around 1.9%. But among candidates with roll numbers less than 5000 (005000), pass rate is around 15%, for candidates with roll numbers from 5000-10000, it is around 6%. Pass rate keeps steadily going down with increase in roll number and is very low (around 0.2%) for candidates with roll numbers of 735000 or higher.
One explanation could be that roll numbers are assigned according to the order in which candidates apply and the more serious candidates apply earlier and the ones applying towards the end were not sure about applying due to lack of preparation and decided to apply at the last minute even without adequate preparation. But does that explain the steep trend?
Thoughts?
See here for a chart of pass percentage by roll number:

Satya, i am pretty sure that your analysis is correct.
Nice work.

true.fully agree with you.
I am agree with you……!!!!! well i dono whether it is biasing towards rich or not…but definitely it has decreased the competition level at Mains at the minimum ….!!!! questing the selection of top slot for IAS.!!
If you passed out in 1984, then it is 29 years not 19 years. If you are 45+ now, then you must have cleared civils at the age of 16 years. Brilliant I must say.
So stop this false propaganda of maligning UPSC and demotivating others.
And Atleast get your maths right while trying to conjure a lie dumbo.
Dear Ankit
Sorry for the mistake. it is 94 instead of 84. but i dont think its a big issue to reply me in this manner. and i m happy that u r the most suitable person for the UPSC 2nd paper. because everyone in this forum has gone through the essence of my writings but u catch the numerical angle in this. this is the wrong in the process of selection in the prelims what i was talking about.
@Ankit CSAT is over and you are IN.
What a reply…this is the essence of all the problems today.
Dear sir
Leave aside mental ability and the aptitude which is required to clear the CSAT exam, but one thing is sure, to be a deserving candidate for the civils one must know at least the basic rules of the language in which he/she is communicating. I don’t know how did you clear the English language paper. I wonder whether it was there in 1994 or not. I am not lobbying for the English language but I feel shame that you are a bureaucrat for so long and still don’t know the basic English grammar rules going by your comments : 1. I am some way agree with Amit. 2. I was graduated from IITB. (These are not typing errors but serious grammatical errors which are not expected from a civil servant.
Anyways, don’t feel offended. UPSC selects hundreds of civil servants every year and is composed of senior officers, so it will be better if you not question their approach and rather rise yourself.
kaushik that was pretty rude man… and it is not about his english; [also ‘I am someway agree with Amit’ is wrong too… every one makes mistakes] it is but about his misguided prognosis that UPSC is favouring the rich, on that i agree with you…
CSAT paper II is very important but not at this scale of difficulty it should be increased, I mean to be a bureaucrat you need to have a sharp analytically sound mind; all those who are giving the excuse of the rich preparing for CAT and hence having an upper hand… WAKE UP… the hindi translation of the passages and every single question brings you in equal footing with one and all… if you find the hindi difficult, you need not only to improve on your english but also on your hindi… I for one need to improve upon my GS and I am going to. I would strongly urge everyone to do the same.
@Chinmoy- wow! how convenient, why can’t it be the other way round, questions originally set in hindi and then translated(both at pre and mains stage), it didn’t occur to you becauseof your indifferent attitude. Don’t you know that there is something called “Lost in Translation”. There was also the elitist agenda to get hindi medium people evaluated in the essay paper, but why bother just look the other way if favours you.
@chinmoy- wow, how convenient, why not the other way round original in hindi and translation in english. dont you there is something called “Lost in Translation”. there was also the elitist agenda of sneaking english in essay paper(thankfully withdrawn) that is why UPSC is in revenge mode-Dont allow rural representation at all.
Cleared
Expected score 240-250
(90-100)+(140-150)
What’s your age?

Give some advice about paper 2(pre) preparation AND FOR BOOK
nd also suggest book for ecology..(paper 1)
frankly speaking i didn’t study paper 2… i was brought up like that..scholarship exams etc.+ 2years reading hindu has bearing on your comprehention(i used to sleep half an hour after every hindu reading !!!)
but
1.standard comprehension and aptitude suggested by mrunal might suffice depending upon your current level of prep…
2.your practice
3.and dont get fooled by stupid type of mock tests..which are designed by some wannabe heroes to display their pride..take positive from them.
ultimately this is the time to worry for mains 2013 as well as 2014.
about environment last year i refereed vajiram notes ncerts etc..

same here friend.
Dear All,
Which coaching institute is good for geography optional in Delhi ??
Thanks,
Santosh.
Neetu Singh’ s direction coaching and Alok ranjan’ IAS r good coaching 4 geography optionals
I am getting the same reply from everyone.
But getting confused between these two.
If you have taken coaching from any one of them.please share your experience/style of teaching/map practice etc.
if you are not brand conscious you may take coaching from Kumar Gaurav of The Council. He is a teacher for Hindi Medium students but he teaches bilingually so no problem for English Medium student also. He doesnt wait time in dictating for notes so that is also plus point for those students who want to made their own notes.
ya.. kumar gaurav is one of the best option 4 geography(optional) rather then alok ranjan…he is the best for climato, geomorpho, environmento…. he is best who works on ur skil development besides cutting pasting…
Mr Shabbir @Vajiram
Never ever take coaching form Nitu singh. She is more concerned about dictating the notes rather than explaining the things.
Shabbir – Hard working,Completes full syllabus,no brand name as such
Alok ranjan – Initially he was very good but now a days he teaches in a very casual approach. He is still very good with Physical geography but for rest part he wont be dealing in details. Will not complete full syllabus.Doesnt check test copies on his own.
Dear Rahul,
Thanks for the input.
i want 2 know, does separate cutoff is also required in both paper or the total cutoff is the only criteria…??? Please guide if anyone know about dis…???
