Finally, UPSC has declared the result for CSAT-prelim-2013 (for both IAS and IFS). Earlier The result system was= you enter your roll number and the UPSC website would tell you whether you’ve passed or not. But this time, UPSC adopted the desi method (uploaded PDF file that contains big list of roll numbers)

Back in 2010, a lady from Chennai committed suicide for failing in prelims, Even in CSE-2012 a guy from Banglore committed suicide. Please remember that setbacks and success will come but life is more precious than one exam, government job, girlfriend, boyfriend or (temporary) nagging of parents/relatives.

When I started (UPSC preparation), I always dreamt about what I would do once I am a civil servant. I failed the first time. That’s when things changed. Thereafter, I was more concerned about how to clear this exam than about what I would do once I become a civil servant. The question as to ‘why’ I wanted to be a civil servant was relegated to some back corner of my mind. It was the exam and it was me. Years rolled by. Until this happened. I was too old for this exam and out of attempts.
(So) I am back in industry. My career is progressing well. Biwi and baby are fine. Life has changed. Priorities have changed. And I am moving on.
The job, the workload, project deadlines, cafeteria, cubicle, bitching about the HR policies and the wait for the next weekend. It’s all there. However, there’s one difference. I had the courage to risk it all. I once did. I lost the bet. And I know that I have the courage to build my dreams once more. Brick by brick, I will build. I believe this is my takeaway from this exam, where I didn’t, ‘qualify’…….I spent a lot of time wondering why I didn’t make it to civil services. In retrospect it looks so stupid of me to even think that I failed. I now look back with a smile…It must have been fun while it lasted. I now work in the field of aerospace with one of the biggest aeroplane makers in world, and I am proud to be an engineer.

Congratulations. What next?= You’ll have to fill up a separate form for the mains examination known as DAF (Detailed application form)
It will be an online application form, you fill it up, take printout and post it to UPSC, New Delhi along with photocopies of necessary documents and fees.

s give me ur roll number…..its highly impossible to clear the exam at ur score….im from sc category getting 210(92+118) marks but couldnt clear…..from general tp my category, the difference wil be at least 25 marks…how u cleared within 15 marks range….give me ur roll number
I also have a similar experience – about 210-220 score – cleared. My friend from SC cat about 190-210 — cleared.
I cudnt make it nd this was my last attempt. Bt i m happy nw. There is more clarity in my life & aims. I m gong to give intervw in uppsc soon nd hope to bcm sdm. One day i ll b an ias bt d course b different..:-) so dont loose heart..there r other options..b a fighter:-)
sir tell me please what are the exact cutt off for general in this year (2013).
sad day for IFoS aspirant, serious candidate for IFoS have not cleared it due to higher cut off for IFoS. But lot of candidate solely preparing for IAS but being a science student applied for both and this made the cutt off being very high. I came to know some candidate who have cleared IAS but failed in IFoS.
IFoS being a specialist job, upsc should take it seriously and the way of selection should be separate for both.
I applied in IFoS alone and 230 didn’t clear.
its true, there are many candidates who are not serious for IFoS have cleared it but will not appear for mains. they have dented the hopes of serious IFoS candidates.

read a comment at Tiru’s blog that says that the guy has actually qualified via a supplementary result..copy pastying-“hi tiru congrats for making into the civil services 2008, a supplementary result has come out for the 2008 exam and ure name figures in the candidates selected, will u be joining the civil services”…people with 225-229 are claiming success while one 235 says he couldn’t make it ..all in these very comment thread…wonder what would have been the cut-off~good luck to all..both ways~

i have put enough work but didnt get through this time. i got a mba seat in a very nice college and left it thinking i’ll get through.i got 195 and belong to st category. i was preparing in delhi till now and i still didnt tell my dad about the result. i dont know how should i tell him about this…..first time in my life today i didnt take my dads call purposefully but i have to tell him tomorrow, he was having lot of expectation from me and i didnt get through this time…..but i have to accept the failure and get back stronger for next attempt. guys i remember a line by stallone ” life is a’int about rainbows and sunshine ,it’ll beat you down till your feet if you dont take the hard things,if you want to achieve somthing you got to take hard hits and keep moving forward and thats how winning is done!”……..congrats to all who have cleared this time.

i was expecting 240-245 after i checked the answer keys available at all sites.. plz can you tell me what could be the reason that my roll number is not there..i am confused.. i belong to general category so can you plz tell me what was the cutoff??
it might be that the keys provided by different answer keys were different than the actual answers of UPSC.wait till UPSC officially provides the marks.
I believe UPSC might have introduced sectional cut offs this year.

Guys don’t lose hope…..I am sure you guys are good at something. Don’t know if interested, but if job is the question then there is an option of ibps, nicl etc. Life is full of ups and down. The peak of ups depends on how we respond to challenges in the bottom of downs. Best Of Luck

@nitin – buddy der is no chance of sectional cut-off as upsc has already said dey calculate d total marks…& 180 seriously…!!! infact u shud say u wer getting 200 in paper-2 & upsc thot u r 2 gud 4 upsc so dey didnt clear u…i agree paper-2 is much easier den paper-1 but its not tat easy tat every other guy vll say im getting 180-190 in paper-2…i know sum of my frnds who got selected in iims & even dey wer getting 160-170….dont just say anything u like…always check frm d authentic sources & den comment abt ur score or u can b in ur dreamworld abt sectional cutoffs being d reason of u not clearing d exam…:)
P.S. – I cleared d prelims….& i definitely did not got 180 in paper 2 or anywer near also….:)

I am not boasting any thing … and ya i cud even score 200/200 in section 2 on my day.
I prepared for CAT and i am proud to say that i have a good aptitude and hadnt got calls from top iims due to not so good acads even after scoring 99+.
Grow up man.Congrats u got through !! but be polite .,,wud help u in long run.

i second nitin though i do not think sectional cut-offs applied but yes about paper 2 there is no reason to think one couldn’t manage 180.i myself expected around 175-180 and it would be no boasting to say that i could have managed 10 marks more if not for some silly mistakes…but that is part of the process, you make mistakes.and yes it doesnt hurt to be a bit courteous,does it?

I wrote my category as General in the PRELIM form as i Didn’t have the OBC certificate.Now I have got the certificate , so can I write my category as OBC in the DAF ? Please provide info on this .

I have checked my answers from Mrunal’s post for paper-I. I am getting around 115-120 and am pretty sure i would get around 160 in paper-II, even by conservative estimates. I also cleared the prelims last year comfortably. But my number is not on the list.

Gosh, feels weird that there are so many ppl like me. I checked my score with CL and was getting 273 . Paper I = 108 and Paper II = 165 . But i cannot find my roll no in the list :(
I was positive of clearing and even joined some test series fr mains ! I felt sad, anger burst inside me…but i realised that nothing matters, i just promised myself that i’l study harder and do better !! Knowledge is always within us and luck cant bind us forever..right?, so lets continue with more determination and hopefully we will succeed ! Good luck :)

i expected minimum 80+165….and was confident to clear it…but i got a rude shock on the result night!!
i marked a answer wrong in one of the papers and then i tried to erase it and marked another…do u think thats a reason for my negative result?

Yes i admit there was a lot lacking …actually i studied for just 10 odd days. But that doesnt stop me to feel abt something.I was not lamenting or giving explainations….just welcoming a good move of UPSC if at all there was.

i guess 180+ 60==240 dude and cl keys for paper 2 were gud enuf..m sure nitin might have missed by a whisker coz none of answer keys are 100% correct..n surely cutoff would hav gone over 230-235 so better dont underestimate others..
