Finally, UPSC has declared the result for CSAT-prelim-2013 (for both IAS and IFS). Earlier The result system was= you enter your roll number and the UPSC website would tell you whether you’ve passed or not. But this time, UPSC adopted the desi method (uploaded PDF file that contains big list of roll numbers)
I’m uploading the same PDF files on google docs (because UPSC server will become slow as hell for a few days). click on the following links:
- Result: IAS/IPS/Civil Service candidates: click me to see resultĀ (~15000 selected)
- Result: IFS candidates: click me to see resultĀ (~1000 selected)
- Forgot roll number?Click me but you’ll need registration id
@Those who didnāt qualify
Try again next year with full strength, rectifying whatever shortcomings you had in your preparation. And if this was your last attempt, then my best wishes for all your future endeavors.
Back in 2010, a lady from Chennai committed suicide for failing in prelims, Even in CSE-2012 a guy from Banglore committed suicide. Please remember that setbacks and success will come but life is more precious than one exam, government job, girlfriend, boyfriend or (temporary) nagging of parents/relatives.
I take the liberty of copy pasting a few paragraphs from Mr.Tirumala’s blogspot:
//Start of copypaste//
When I started (UPSC preparation), I always dreamt about what I would do once I am a civil servant. I failed the first time. Thatās when things changed. Thereafter, I was more concerned about how to clear this exam than about what I would do once I become a civil servant. The question as to āwhyā I wanted to be a civil servant was relegated to some back corner of my mind. It was the exam and it was me. Years rolled by. Until this happened. I was too old for this exam and out of attempts.
(So) I am back in industry. My career is progressing well. Biwi and baby are fine. Life has changed. Priorities have changed. And I am moving on.
The job, the workload, project deadlines, cafeteria, cubicle, bitching about the HR policies and the wait for the next weekend. Itās all there. However, thereās one difference. I had the courage to risk it all. I once did. I lost the bet. And I know that I have the courage to build my dreams once more. Brick by brick, I will build. I believe this is my takeaway from this exam, where I didnāt, āqualifyā…….I spent a lot of time wondering why I didnāt make it to civil services. I thought I will carry the burden of this failure all my life and will never get over this….Thatās not so. I moved on, (and) quite well to my own surprise, I must say. In retrospect it looks so stupid of me to even think that I failed. I now look back with a smile…It must have been fun while it lasted. I now work in the field of aerospace with one of the biggest aeroplane makers in world, and I am proud to be an engineer.

For any doubts call the helpline of UPSC: 011-23385271, 011-23098543 or 011-23381125
By the way, Result of Roll Nos.290376, 722998 and 783890 have been withheld on Court direction.

Is there any chance of any discrepancy in the result as i see many students around 240+ not clearing and people with 230 clearing? One can be wrong but not so many. I also myself cudnt clear. Was expecting btw 245 to 255. Dont know what to do? Finished all my chances.
Same here !!
Last attempt !
I too have my doubts over the result.
Is there any way to address this issue since its eating my mind since yesterday. I know I have more than 245 on any given day.
i think this year upsc has followed sectional cut off approach………
it was published in hindustan(hindi) news paper………..
oh god…i was expectin bet 270-280 stil din clear..
whats wit this upsc..no transparency..spoiling 3-4 good years of young people.
sir can u check my roll no. 499366. wats d cut off 4 sc category?
Sorry, you didn’t make it !
i was expecting 200 marks but not cleared in sc category .
Not cleared. Its unacceptable. 3rd attempt how to keep motivate myself its a big challenge. Score was 220 (obc)
Hello Mrunalbhai and friends,
Thank you Mrunalbhai for you help to aspirants.
Congrats to all the friends who made it.
About the cutoff I assume it to be 239-241. Because in our group after using single key(cl) those who had 241, 246 and 247 made it. Me and another friend with 236 and 235 didn’t make it.
Those who didn’t cleared pre, difference of few marks doesn’t make any difference in your ability. We will do better next time.
Many of those who qualified have done it on bases of very high score in paper 2.
Friends from arts background have the real loss in paper 2.( it’s a really tough competition!! )
Those who qualified and are targeting 2014.
Best of Luck.
was expecting 240+ and cleared thw first hurdle
my score according to CL is 237…sc categary..but failed to crack prelim
can anyone check out my roll no…it is 020113
Sorry Harshal, your roll no. is not there.
it was my first attempt, i have not qualified for mains.
i know the loopholes that were there in my preparation
gearing up for 2014, i am going to leave no stone unturned in my second attempt.
congratulations and best wishes to those who got through
and…..thank you so much Mrunal sir for guiding us.
Only god knows how upsc calculate score. I was getting 240 anyhow. Checked 5 keys & googled every question. Still culdnt clear. It was my 2nd attempt. Bit of disillusioned. But this time It Wil b UPSC vs ME. Now or never. Next time I Wil not give chance to UPSC to disqualify me. I take this pledge. For my fellow friends who r like me dont b upset instead ( as Vivekanand said) stand up & stop not till goal is reached.
if u think u can u can…same here…lets fck this bitch named upsc headon…pledge
yes.. cmon guys we all r victim of the same enemy (UPSC) lets take pledge to take revenge next year .. and fall not back but on the head of UPSC
‘Next time I will not give chance to UPSC to disqualify me.’ – words of a true warrior. Thank u for the motivation.
My friend and I are both shattered. It was our last attempt and we were very happy with our papers. Our cut-offs were between 225-232 according to the answers available on the net. My friend too left his job and was so sure to reach the interview especially coz in the last 3 attempts he reached the interview and missed it by a narrow margin. I donāt know if I can trust public exams anymore. What if UPSC also has a lot of potholes just like UPPSC?? I donāt know what to say or how to console my friend. Just imagine how it feels when you have reached the interview in all your previous attemptsā¦but you fail to clear even the prelims in the last and final attempt. Sad story of a general category student in this country.
I seriously agree wid u….. even i have started doubting the selection process now..why can’t these ppl understand that this process take 4-5 long years of a person’s youth which cannot be regained back at any cost….I wish you success in ur future endeavours….tc…!!
Thanks Loyd !
They should put a system in place where the exam happens twice in a year just like CDS, so that one doesnt waste 4-5 years which are the most important years of our lives.
I mean in two years time one would know whether they can make it or not…and then move on with their lives.
We end up wasting our prime years for an exam where the probability of getting through is so low :(
HI Romaira ,
Was too shocked to see my results 235( 97+138 ) was my score..GM .1st attempt..I was so stunned to react, cry literally burst into tears after reading ur comments..its very very painful ..I had worked very hard..probably for the first time in life!! I hv never felt discriminated since I entered civils.Being GM is so Hard ..lost faith a lil ..will fight back but…dont know how to react ..feeling numb…
ANyways enough of my whining…ALL THE VERY BEST for ur future!!
@Meghana: I feel ya babe !
It’s a void that can never be filled!!
Best of luck for all your endeavours. All those who have exhausted their attempts should form a group on FB and stay in touch. The good thing about preparing for UPSC is that we have knowledge about everything under the sun.
And we should use this knowledge to our benefit.
I lost my admit card henceforth the roll no also. I m unable
To check my prelims 2013 result. I have my my registration
No. With me. Please guide me the way to obtain
My roll no. So that i can check my result
Check for your question papers; you have written your roll no on that.
The link doesn’t work.
Call up Mr. Imran Farid, who is the undersecretary (Exams) at UPSC. Provide him with your Registration ID and Date of Birth, he will give you the roll number. I talked to him yesterday, he noted down my details and when I called him today provided me with my roll number.
P.S. No more suspense. I cleared the prelims. Studying hard for Mains.
hi i lost my hall ticket and i need to check my result how cna i find my roll number
Check for next comment. from Srinu,,
Yippeee. . I did not clear, but got my leave extended for one more year :-)
Happy holiday to myself and other like minded :-)
: ) that was a jolly msg. this made me smile for the first time after the results were out. Thank u for the light-hearted words.
My score was something in the range of 227-232 (General). I was 99% sure that i would make it considering expected cut off of around 215-220 from all institutes. But since UPSC keeps on surprising you, you cannot take anything for granted in life. UPSC epitomizes that epic phrase “Hope for the Best and prepare for the Worst”
Now i will prepare more sincerely and honestly and will crack the whole exam next time. :)
All the Best to those who have cleared and, those who haven’t cleared like me “there is always a next time” :)
My best wishes to those who have failed in their last attempt. Life is much more than this. :)
Thank You
Those who got through all the best guys prepare well for mains :)
For who didn’t you know observe, analyse in retrospect..What were the loopholes, in which area you were weak..anyway it was in the past..You cannot change it so try to be in the present..i said in the present..make new strategies and fight..don’t give up…Its the spirit..Real men and women are fighters..They will take every defeat as an opportunity as you know there is no good teacher than ones failures..Heard about the legendary king Robert Bruce of Scotland? He was waging a fierce war against the British but he never won even a single battle..Sick,disheartened and sad he was sitting in his cave after a failed battle..Then he saw a spider making it’s net.. every time it failed and Bruce felt pity for it..But it didn’t lose heart and made it in the seventh attempt…
Bruce ,understanding the meaning called up all of his countrymen and deafeated his enemies and established the glorious Kingdom of Scots !!!!!
Be that spiders my brothers and sisters..Never ever give up….my prayers are with you :)
Sadly we don’t have 7 attempts, just 4..and this was my last :(
I have never attended any coaching in my life..Relied only on basic books and Vajiram Notes..and Mrunal Eco..I cleared pre..was expecting 265+…
I have prepared entireGS notes prepared for the mains..
Best of luck to those who cleared…Lets meet in the interview hall…and then at LBSNAA…..
Hi Guys,
Happy to see u sharing ur happiness and sorrows here.
After looking at Civils papers, I never seen them as a subjects to prepare but the way you need to develop yourself towards being a good citizen. A good citizen will read newspaper to know what is happening around him. He questions everything surrounding him. He weighs the advantages and disadvantages of each government policy. When a problem occurs in any part of the country, he would like to see the problem and searches for a solution. Simply an open ended individual. Think India as your family and all its citizens are your brothers and sisters. If a problem happens in your family, you put your heart and soul for its solution. Only such people can address the day to day problems of this country effectively. If you can seriously think in those lines, you can settle in life very easily. If you can see a problem, find a solution then nothing else required. We have plenty of problems all through our life, finding solutions is the key. I haven’t prepared anything for the CSP 2013 exam but I follow whatever happens to India because I love India and everything about it. I haven’t felt CSP 2013 tough at all. I have written exam well but couldn’t get through. But it still won’t make any difference to me. I learnt a lot and will be happy to learn more and more about my country. If you see it as a preparation, then you will feel if u fail. If you see it as a process of being a good citizen to India, your search will never end and it will bring you a great wisdom for the rest of your life.
I’m gonna copy paste ur post and read it everyday. thank u Naresh bhaiya. Ur words came as the real solution for me. thanks a lot. I’ve been expecting for such motivation and i got it in the right time. Wish u the best too : ) God Bless You
Well Naresh, I also this type of attitude. I think India as a family and always analyse the policies of govt. I cleared Prelims 2013. Now hoping for positive outcomes for Mains 2013.
But my advise for those who left job and started preparation. There could be cases where you need to think about your passion. Sometimes we start preparation without analysing about our real passion. They should think this preparation time to seriously think whether IAS is my real passion. Take this 1 year of IAS preparation in order to find your real passion in your life. If you work for your passion, then there is no other great job than your real passion.
At the end of the day, even if you become a civil servant and you later find that it is not my real passion then you need to struggle for more than others
Another Failure…Lot of sacrifices still not in the list. But the preparation didn’t got wasted. I have selected as Govt. degree lecturer in AP. If we chase high at least we will get Low.
Could you tell about what stream of teaching have you been selected for?
Physics
226 marks as per vajiram key in sc category but did not clear…… shocked.. :-(
I cleared …was expecting 213 to 217…SC category
mu roll no.296809 pls tell me..

SIR
I’ve forgotten my roll no and couldn’t find my admit card. I’ve only registration ID. How can I get it my roll no. Please help me asap. Please tell me.
hi shashank, i think you may downloaded it once in your system to take printout, if you not find in your system try to recover it using various recovering softwares, if you had taken printout from the net cafe we cant do any thing…
Pls tell me how to retrieve my roll no…
Check your question paper.
Got cleared! was expecting 100+140 minimum, considered negative marks for questions having ambiguities.
So looking at all the comments here I guess my score is somewhat 245+ :) Congrats to all…now the real game starts.
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
Hi Mrunal.
Thx for ur comprehensive support,,,
cleared but feared,,last yr also cleared but ,,,,MAINS?????
anyways, thanks a lot for your guidance!
with regards
Shalinee
Nishi Thanks for ur inspiring words..I may not that much eligible to suggest or comment but I can only say one thing that …”WE MUST WORK HARD” irrespective of many strategies..
I thought i can clear but I Could’t…
Thanks to MRUNAL sir for ur great work.
ANd I request u all post ur fresh strategies by keeping an eye on aug,2014
i.e.,long term plan.
WE should have more courage to FAIL than SUCCEED
LETS try for EXCELLENCE rather than SUCCESS
If we achieve EXCELLENCE ,SUCCESS is bound to follow..
There were many things i learnt from this exam, but surely one of them was that work hard, give your best, consistently, continuously and brave heartily but never expect anything from anyone, if you get it you will be most happy but if you don’t you wont feel like dying, there is always other things to Move-On. Those who accept it they will be more stronger than they were earlier.
I m totally dubstruck after seeing my result ,frustrated ….and dnt know wat to do ..Suicide karene ka mann kar rha i was prep since Jan 2012 :((((
Ye har jeevan ki sabse badi har nahi hai…Na to ise jeetna jeevan ka sabse achievement..so ur frustation is meaningless. Please control urself.
A friend of mine, 4th attempt – reached to interview 2 times, failed to clear….still he is alive…..so what is wrong with u.
she is a girl thats why !!!! grow up
No offence…..Rationality never allows this….girls does not mean that they are weak & are sitting to commit suicide…pls stay human…such thought are curse for your mom, sis, wife daughter & frd
Yes Raghu is RIGHT..
If u succed in life whole world will come to know about u….but if u fail then u will know the whole world….:)
Seriously when i went to delhi for coaching in was shocked to see that all my teachers are failures who have tried their 4 attempts…but they have failed on exam but not in life…because of them so many people are becoming ias ips…which shows that success or failure is just a thing not everything in life…commitment is the key in life…not result…:)
common… be a man… suicide…ridicolous… !! i left my job and then was preparing.. could not clear but now more determined to clear… life is not about giving up… its about facing it wid the best shot u have…. so gear up dude… !!
You can be the next Mrunal…..he is so good at what he does now….100s of IAS will remember him for rest of their life….
good one…..really inspirational……
never give up
really very inspirational video i am very touched….
which video ?
i dont know y the video has been deleted. i posted it. And it din’t have anything objectionable.
i think that was taking too much space on server.thats why it has been deleted
excellent video..very touching and inspiring..
Bhagavad Gita : Samkhya Yoga: Verse 37 says:
hato vÄ prÄpsyasi svargaįøæ
jitvÄ vÄ bhokį¹£yase mahÄ«m
tasmÄd uttiį¹£į¹ha kaunteya
yuddhÄya kį¹ta-niÅcayaįø„
which translates to “Slain, thou wilt obtain heaven; victorious, thou wilt enjoy the earth; therefore, STAND UP, O SON OF KUNTI, RESOLVED TO FIGHT”
Posting this one of the best verses of Gita, where Lord himself extols vacillating Arjuna to “STAND UP and FIGHT with DETERMINATION”. I only wish everyone both who have or haven’t cleared to just keep performing your Karma.
ya its short form 4 could not. stop misinterpreting it !!
actually the short is couldn’t.. and whatch what your write.. cunt is down right inappropriate..!!
Bachhe ki Jaan loge kya !
”i m in
tutally agree wid u…”
dont talk like that, you were not the only person who failed, We have also lost our attempts but we have grown more stronger. I was attempting since 2009. If you have another attempts with you be strong and courageous and prepare well for next time and if you have exhausted there are other beautiful avenues waiting for us in life what we were ignoring because of this Heart Breaking Exam. Be strong and be courageous. But before that let our all negative feelings vent out in front of your good freinds, parents, siblings who can correctly understand you and guide you better.if you want me to console you mail me you can give your mail to me
lol..
thanks Jeevan!
Not found in my PC or anywhere? Really in topsy-turvy situation.
I was expecting 235-(gk today, vaji keys),240(vision,synergy);did lots of silly mistakes but was still very confident of clearing pre.
This was my very first attempt and i cud not clear and i must say i am shocked to my core.
All my confidence and pride has been washed away.I was a branch topper of a very distinguished engineering college.I have almost left a very good mnc campus job. This is my first experience with big failure in a long time.Over the past few years i had got so much used to being among the best that it had in a way blinded and deluded me to believe that success was my right.Yesterday was the first time I have cried in ages.
I hope to bounce back from this and go the full distance the next time.
Cheers! to the beautiful exam that has bought me back to my senses.
Even though i cudnot make it through this time,a special thanks to Mrunal ji for providing better guidance than most of those shitty institutes people pay tonnes of money too.
Hi Kamal,
Your comment shows an inner reflection.. and I am happy to see that you are determined to fight back..Civil Services is about this attitude..

same situation man, but its important to not loose one’s focus.. how do you plan to move ahead in your preparation?
