@Those who cleared Prelims-2013, UPSC Has uploaded the Detailed application form (DAF) for the Mains 2013.

One important change / development is (as per DAF instruction Page 13, point number 28):
- In Mains 2013, instead of separate Question Paper and answer book, a consolidated Question Paper-cum-Answerbook, having space below each part/sub part of a question shall be provided to them for writing the answers.
- Candidates shall be required to attempt answer to the part/sub-part of a question strictly within the pre-defined space.
- Any attempt outside the pre-defined space shall not be evaluated.
In other words,
- You’ve to be extra cautious before writing the answers, any scratching of lines/paragraphs for correction, will only reduce the space.
- You will not get any extra supplementary answersheets, if you run out of space.
- You cannot bring the question paper home and going by the previous trend: UPSC doesn’t immediately upload mains question papers on their website and won’t disclose them under R.T.I saying “exam process” is not yet over: Meaning those who’re not appearing in Mains 2013, you will have to wait for few months before you get to see the official Mains questions, particularly for the fabled ethics paper . But there are good people, who’ll appear in Mains-2013 and reveal the questions in online comments/forums, based on their memory. So all is not lost (unlike CAT, where candidates are legally prohibited from revealing official questions in forums/websites/books.)

I have submitted mains application online. Afterwards I noticed that certain columns like fax no., teams/NCC etc., have been left blank. And UPSC mentions in instructions that no column should be left blank.
Will it lead to rejection of application? Please reply soon.
Buddies. Can anyone throw some light on whether we need to get our certificates attested/certified? Does it mean attested from some govt officer or self atetstation? I am little confused in this. Glad if someone can help.. Cheers..!!

Another area of concern.. What does it exactly mean that the cancellation mark for the recruitment stamp should overflow on the application form. Do we need to get some sort of stamping from the post office before we mail the application? Sorry if this question appears silly, but I am a fresher & just want to be sure of everything..;)
Go to post office & ask them central recruitment stamp. They themselves will do all things just tell them to stick the stamp with in provided space & u can fill amount 200/- by your self.
In my “PREVIEW OF THE FORM” there were just 9 pages but after preview and “FINAL SUBMISSION” it has an extra page ( 10 pages) just containing the footnote of roll no.after summary sheet wanted to know if this is normal or system generated error? Does this mean that my summary sheet is more than 1 page( though roll no. mentioned in initial line)? Plz help.

i wish to know whether the officers of indian trade sevice, information service and ordinance service inferior to officers of other services in some way?
this confusion is caused due to the additional description attatched to them like junir grade, grade III and asst works manager. what is the significance of these appendages?

1.In the class or grade part what is to be entered ? I am from maharashtra and here we have first cass etc…so when i try to enter there is no enough space..so what to do?
2.In graduation % section do we have to enter percentage of just final year or average of all year…i hv done engg…
1. you just have to write “FIRST” its under the class box. No need to write CLASS.
2. you have to enter the aggregate % of all the 8 semester.
doubt – after taking print out of daf there is space provided to sign not very page except SUMMARY FORM so should we sign on it or not please reply???

Very technically, No. Since you have a master’s, you HAVE TO HAVE your final bachelor’s degree with you…but it will most probably be accepted at this stage. Foreign University degree will be recognized unless it has little or no recognition in UK. Would you mind telling us what your master’s degree was? Did you work at all in the UK?
I think they are planning to put one question one proffesor sitting side by side and checking answerscriot to avoid subjectivity which was used to happen in my college during maths examination …10 quetions checked by 10 professor nice na………
for Indian economic service 2013 ..if someone takes admission for postgraduate in economix this yr 2013-14 …he will be eligible for giving exam ??

UPSC exams and interview procedures are 99% genuine and there is no discrimination on (caste or religion),unlike state PSC services which is corrupted most of the times.
IAS and IPS postings are transparent and genuine.But if u get IFS and u r a genuine person most likely u will be posted as ambassadors in libya,pakistan,afganistan,somalia etc..not in US UK France..lots of politics involved in IFS cadre by central government interference..

Your B.Tech. qualification is what makes you eligible for this job…So, your masters is of no use to them…BTW, Are there not great job prospects in the UK at this time or did you want to appear for UPSC?

what do i fill in the space provided for
1. “post office” (not pincode_)
2. “fax” (when upsc clearly have instructed not to leave any module unfilled)
3. i cant fit in all my subjects in the column provided ( engg student)
4. whereas i cleared my exam in 2011, the date as mentioned in “pass certificate” is 2012 (it was issued in 2012). so what do write 2011/2012?
5. i have cleared state civil service and have been recommended for a certain post but i still havent join the service offficially. so what do i fill in the service info.

3.only write ur branch name.. Myself written electronics n communications only

it may sound silly but please bear with me( since this happens to be my first mains attempt/ am very anxious about it ).
1. should i write “computer science & engineering” (name of my branch/course/degree) or simply “computer science”
2. yes, the date mentioned on marksheet is 2011 however the degree certificate was issued in 2012 and the date mentioned there is 2012.( so confused!!)
3. In the “employment information” there is a column on “whether you have been SELECTED or APPLIED for UPSC examination/recruitment(including civil service examination) ”
now what this does mean (SELECTED or APPLIED) ? i appeared for civil service prelims last year too (couldn’t clear) and this year (thats 2).
But in the column box provided underneath, there is space for just one entry. How do i fill ?
Hi friends, it is written that “Please fill either Percentage of Marks or CGPA and leave other blank.”
Should we leave it or write NIL/NA/0 as UPSC told that no module should be left blank.

2. no idea about ur passing certificate date confusion.. but i think if u mention 2011 it ll b beneficial cz marksheet already gives u d qualified status. so dont think so much.. UPSC will not cancel ur application for this.
3.in last if u press add then the column will b keep appearing… u can fill as many as u can by keep on save and add option.

Not inferior… but perks u get in service tend to vary…. plum postings and stuff… u can go for ordnance, info, trade with ordnance at a higher preference
