Request: share your exam experience
RBI Grade B officer (Preliminary) exam was held on August 3, 2014 (Sunday) in two sessions. But since this exam is to be conducted online=>difficult for next years’ aspirant to find “previous question” papers. Therefore, I request all the readers, to share following data AFTER exam is over, in the comments below.
- What was the Span of current affairs latest and oldest topic asked in General Awareness?
- How much PIN (persons in news?) by the way, PIN-2014 series has been uploaded long time back. in case you missed, go to https://mrunal.org/current#pin
- General idea on “topicwise breakup” – in general awareness. How much economy (budget related), how much banking sector related and so on. Did they ask computer awareness in it?
- How tough was English section compared to SBI PO and CSAT?
- How tough / lengthy was Maths/DI section compared to other exams. Did they ask chillar questions like profit loss, or was it entirely focused on lengthy data interpretation as in SBI PO? what was the overall breakup?
- Reasoning section: did they ask high level reasoning like syllogism, assertion-reasoning, course of action etc?
- Other observations about pattern, trend, wisdom, tips for future aspirants.

| TOTAL | 200 | 104 | 94 | 89 | 69 | 69 |
Overall, cutoff has “decreased”- compared to 2013’s prelim. but that is expected given the toughness of this year’s exam.

last year cut of was
gen 104…
this time what would be??
No,last yr cut-off was 126.
Thiss yr ,can expect it to lower down since much lesser number of candidates have appeared.
Hello , How many applicants this time ?
GA- A walk with ur beloved one..;)
English- A walk with ur friends….:)
Quant and lR – a walk with ur professor…….
lol….didnt expect such questions…but seriously i am happy that i have given this exam…i now know where i need to improve in quant and LR….but this time cutoff will come down drastically….quant and LR is well above ssc level…u need to prepare separately for this exam if u need to get some good marks…overall its not that good and not that bad…esp quant is very lengthy…if ur not good at percentages….its very difficult to even attempt such questions….LR complex arrangements are well above ssc and csat level…data sufficiency is also little bit hard….
Dear aspirant,
the paper Is very much simpler.. u just have to focus on doing minimum required for each section. Quant part is too time consuming for me, and i attended just 18 out of 30 .. As a whole i attended near 166 question. Quant is too calculous as figures are too large .
online exam is quite uncomfrtable… its difficult to move around different questions with in the same section particularly in Quant and DI
Online xam patteren needs an improvement.
Question Paper is as expected . One should give more stresss on Quant and reasioning .. lengthy question time taking but not soo difficult to answer
RBI Grade B exam went fine until reasoning started. Quant was a bit tuff, English was OK,GA was easy. Reasoning was so tuff and time consuming, better try to manage time for each section than to solve hard questions. All the best.
I’ve updated the article with information about previous cutoffs and previous question papers for mains exam.
gk….easy.. i have not prepared for the exam but still able to do finance realted questions which are related to banking or economy ..

thank you Puneet for sharing question list and analysis on aptitude portion.
sir some of questions in reasoning are repetition such as
“I went to school” stands for “jo pa li ho”
“where is your school” stand for “ru ty pa ha”
what does “school” stand for (this type of question comes in exam of high level)
in quant :- question on quadratic equations were asked
:-which is wrong figure out these 3 10 33 111 349(this is original question)
Hi all
I appeared from Bhubaneswar.
As i had got through Bank of India in IBPS 2 in 2012(final results 2013),this was my 1st experience of a computer based test.
If u analyse last 5 to 7 years of question.you will get a similar trend.
But this time they have changed the difficulty level of the exam.
But yes no of questions same as previous.Till 2011 they had sectional timings that they have stopped it since last year.
1)General awareness was quite easy.It was more of current affairs relating to names and places. You rarely find questions on economics. Some questions were asked on budget 2014 presented by jaitley. But they were fact based. If you are quiz buff you can answer the following question:The author of tale of two cities.Otherwise some banking questions that were bit practical like mortgage,leasing…..overall GK was quite easy.60+ one should answer.
2)English was average to tough.Comprehension came in which some questions of vocabulary was tested.Cloze test and etc…..little bit of practice will fetch u more than 12 marks or may b bit more
3)Quant :as Mrunal sir was asking about chillar ques….friends i will confess no chillar ques.it was tough.even questions on finding relation between X and Y used to be so easy(please refer to prev years papers) this time they were also not that easy.data sufficiency also 1 level higher.overall 10-15 would be ok seeing last years ques and cut off(14)
4)Reasoning. V v v tough.it was a level higher.v difficult to solve the puzzles.i am good at puzzle but i was not able to properly do.i can say they have gone a level higher..
if u compare last year and this years paper ,i would say if you cut the ques of GK of this year questions were much tougher than last year.
200 ques 130 min too tough seeing the level.
one more thing guys.
they had announced in the advertisement that they will conduct the exam on 2,3,9 and 10th of aug.that means 8 sittings.but they have conducted only on a single day i.e 2 sittings.that seems candidates would be less….and some hv UPPCS exam too…but remember even if candidates may be less, competition would still be stiff.I cant comment on cut off as again its a exam with relative performance and even Mrunal sir asks us not to talk about cut off and all..
so friends forget it start for UPSC Prelims as only 20days left.
By the way Mrunal Sir ,my Odisha Public Service Commissions(Odisha Civil Services) mains is scheduled from 6th to 30th sept(old UPSC pattern).once the exam is over i will share the questions. For others who will appear for Odisha Public Service Commissions(Odisha Civil Services) Prelims you can access previous year question from OPSC site
Thanks Mrunal Sir for all the help
GS was easy. Anyone who regularly follows Mrunal’s website can easily get 50-55 correct. Unlike last year, questions from Economy/Finance were fewer and simpler. Most of them were current affairs of months May-June. Some sitter questions were there.
Quant was time consuming but not very difficult. Two sets of DI asked, both were easy but involved long calculations. Questions from Algebra, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion only.
English was moderate. Direct Vocabulary question based on passage with missing words; one easy RC was asked which was based Gross Domestic Savings; One parajumble was asked but it was confusing. Close study of options given in questions helped crack it. A very innovative type of question was asked in English. I have never seen such a question in any competitive exam. In this question, a paragraph containing two sentences was given. Below this, three options containing three different short sentences was also given. The candidate was asked to mark the options which could be used to join the two sentences, and make a single sentence, without compromising with the meaning/theme of the paragraph.
Reasoning, though not very difficult, was again time consuming.
Overall, the questions were definitely easier than last year but were lengthier. Time management is the key for this exam.
My attempts (Gen category):
GS= 63
English= 29
Maths= 20
Reasoning= 21 (“I think this could be a problem” :-(
Guys pls share your attempts.
The paper was totallydifferent from the lines of previous year RBi paper … more like SEBi’s paper. Cut offs will shoot up…however those who knew their strengths and weakness would be able to clear cut offs as pucity of time demanded selection of questions to attempt.
one more i will add most current questions from may to july 2014
hello everyone.
This exam was my second banking exam after SBI PO held recently. In this exam (RBI) questions were not that tough but they were definately time taking. One should do a lot of practice to qualify for this exam. Unfortunately i cudn’t do well ( Reasoning took a lot of time.lack of practice as required for banking examinations). Speed with accuracy should be the strategy to tackle quant & reasoning qstns. looking forward for d-day .
This time rbi want people who have good knowledge of puzzle and quant.
I realy realize that you have to focus on quant and resioning very well.this exam was really tough in these parts, and definatly this will decide the whole picture.
RESPECTED MRUNAL SIR
I ATTENDED MORNING SESSION
LOGICAL REASONING QUESTIONS: some Questions based on circular seating arrangement by giving 8 persons their jobs and direction
2.some questions based on linear seating arrangement with one set facing the north and other set facing the south
3.some questions based on the data of comparison of persons based on weight
4.some questions based on syllogism which could be solved easily
5.some questions were based on Input arrangement step 1 step 2 and final output
6.some questions were based on pattern that there are six floors and person A lives on 4 (quite easy)
7.strengthening and weaking arguments.
Hi mrunal….
quant was a little higher side in difficulty level…sectional will come down from 14 to 11-13
reasoning same—no change in cutoff
GA—very easy compared to last year….any one could have scored 50 without specific preparation
english—same as last year—
overall cutoff will rise by 5-10 marks…
But what about lesser candidates this year?
gs and english expected..
reasoning and quanta difficult to answer..
i attempted 110 questions.. of accuracy.
expected score is 90-100
over all paper is above moderate

RBI Grade B officer, 2014 paper: my review
Given the limited availability of previous papers, I suppose most of us have tuned ourselves to the 2011 papers which seemed simple given 130 minutes time.
As I dont know about 2013 paper, I would say this year’s paper was ranging between moderate-tough on a comparison with 2011.
The high weightage to GA, life made simple for many people who are weak in DI/Reasoning and for those who follow Current Affairs regularly. But questions like Kochadaiyaan hero, Bobby Jasoos heroine, really degraded the quality of the paper, though they were 2-3 in number, this is not expected from an organisation like RBI recruiting its officers.
English seems easy, but was tough as we were going ahead. It was time consuming and not a child’s play. It needs time and patience along with peace of mind to score > 23-25
DI was tough compared to 2011 paper. This almost collapsed the blueprint strategy most of us have prepared for the exam by consuming more time than was planned. Though it took time, the one good thing is that we could atleast find the answers much different from the section to follow ;)
Reasoning with a big chunk of marks in its basket, this section lies above IBPS and below SBI PO. Most of the questions took time and if one visits this section at the end, its more probable to falter for the pressure on mind about last year’s cut-off and the fast ticking time and above all, the answers which we hardly find despite solving a puzzle for 5 whole minutes!!!
On the whole, GA could have been more standardized, English, DI, Reasoning seemed to have set the step for further difficulty next year. I don’t speculate cutoffs. I can simply say, I managed to attempt a decent 163 with a some stray guesses.
GA-60(a few guesses);
English-22;
Quant-14;
Reasoning-46;
Total-(142/200)
Dont know where to focus now- “CAT” or “RBI Phase II”
Math was very tough following by Reasoning>English>GA. Those who managed Reasoning and Math should hope for their turn. Some Question of GA. 1.Who is NSA>2.Who is attorney General>3.Who is president of Srilanka>4.Who is CM of AP>5.How much women MP in Loksabha>6.Who is heading IMF>7.Narmada Dam position in world highest dams>8.Largest number of Minister from which state>9.Actors of Detective>10.Nobel Peace Prize Winner>11.WTO HQs>12.Name the group of World Bank>13. Budgetary Allocation of Bullet Train> 14. Mumbai Metro Rail> 15.Who is Secretary Department of Revenue!!!!!11?????> Which is not a Security to qualify for SLR!!.
English—
Passage related to SDR….not too complicated.Missing words in a passage type problem also OK.Overall a decent paper.
Math–
One que each on probabilty, alligation, cylinder, stream motion.linear equations n then depicting relation between x and y -type questions.Wrong one in series(rather complicated!)
No RADAR graph questions this time.
Pie chart questions little lengthy.
Another DI que based on literacy n illiteracy ratio in some villages, male n female ratio therein(all rolled in one!) quite lengthy.
Reasoning—
Sitting around circle questions
Syllogism
Sitting in two rows facing one another type questions
Just a single que from input-output method
Five persons at five floors type que
Blood relation plus inequalty type questions.
Strnghthening/weakening statement type,cause-effect relationship questions all there.
# Rather timetaking
.
my exam was in morning shift in tumkur, karnataka.
overall exam difficulty was average.
general awareness: most of the general awareness questions are from pin and from my notes some basic questions from money market, monetary policy, elections (as some one already told about the questions in the previous comments)
English: passage, fill up the blanks into passage, rearrangement to form a meaningful paragraph, possibly starter after joining two sentences.
quantitative aptitude: questions on average, data interpretation and sufficiency, finding wrong one in the given set of sequence of numbers, ration and proportions, boat and stream, work and time.
reasoning: statement and arguments, statements and assumptions, cause and effect, blood relations, circular arrangement, liner arrangements ( 4 people sitting in one row facing north and other 4 people sitting in other row facing south), 3 statement syllogism, there are 7 floors in an apartment in which floor who will leave, data sufficiency, sequence output testing, deriving conclusion from passage.
my experience: overall it’s good. reasoning I felt. aptitude was bit time consuming (if you didn’t practice it every day). English and general awareness was average difficulty level questions.
overall I could able to answer 147 questions.
Hi friends …i have given this exam today in morning shift.
i am able to remember 51 questions out of 80 for gs section which is quite easy.
i am sharing them on my blog . http://civilsdsp.blogspot.in/
General Awareness
Maximum qsns were from economy and span of current affairs was May to July!! PIN qsns were simple like post of Ajit Doval n who is attorney general. Conceptual economic qsns were easy if level of preparation was UPSC. But qsns on facts n figures from Budget speech and economic survey were tough….spclly when in every qsn dere was 5th option of other than mentioned above!! May for qsns of figures economic survey or mrunal sir’s survey lecture on it shld b thoroughly done
English
Very easy. Nothing from grammer. Meanings and opposites were easy. One comprehension wid direct qsns from d passage and one qsn on theme of passage. Here dere was one new variety of qsns to test how you can join to sentences. Since i havn’t seen such qsns earlier it took some time. D qsns were 5 in number n pattern was as follow
2 statements were given and den 3 lines were given by which u cld join dose stmts either using those lines in d begining or middle or last. Options were like u cld join dose stmts by Using all 3 lines together den any one line individually or any two lines or none.
Reasoning was easy but time was less and main component was of high level
Reasoning. All qsns were same as given in M.K. Pandey. Some qsns were directly lifted from it. For e.g. In cause and effect there is one qsn on lung cancer to passive smoker therefor govt. wranings at public places of no smoking.
Syllogism 6-7 qsns (very easy)
Input-Output 2 qsns (tough)
Coding Decoding 4-5 qsns (moderate)
Missing series (Numeric) 5-6 qsns were very tough
Arrangements or problem solving qsns like given in Pandey book from pg 628 were tough n were abt 10-12 qsns
Conclusion from stmt 6-7qsns (easy)
Weakening and strengthening arguments 3-4 qsns (moderate)
Data Sufficiency 6-7 qsns (easy)
Cause Effect 6-7 qsns )easy)
Arranging sentences like parajumbles only 1 qsn but was difficult
Quantitative was tough spclly for non math background
Probability 1 qsn easy
Data Interpretation 1 pie chat den 2 tables wid data. Each DI has further 5-6 qsns. To solve these DI percentages, ratio-proportion, averages were key
Den tough qsns were from equations (2-3qsns) den 2 qsns from inequalities
1 qsn each was from Time & Work, Averages, Boats & Streams, Profit and loss
Software was very gud and user friendly though at some institutes equipments like Mouse nt upto date
Overall ppl did well as it was time when ppl had done gud hard wrk for upsc or oder state civil service exams
ALL D BEST TO ALL!!
Maths was very difficult. Reasoning was Time Consuming.
Mrunal ji.. Hats off to u.. bcoz i never ever attempted GA section with such confidence.. Thaanks 4 ur Economic section.., and PIN section… really exam looked easy.., but some reasoning qns nd almost all QA was lenghty., If i could clear QA den am sure I will be in Phase 2… :-)
gk easy, eng avg(sbi po level),reasoning easy only if u practice(eg magical book on puzzle by k kundan),quan was time taking although i had practised a lot still could do only 13questions
Sir,
I have attempted134 questions, earlier I took it in 2010 and even given mains, but that time it was offline, but giving online its bit different and it takes more time than offline. Paper was not so tough but managing it online is not so easy. Some of the questions were directly from the Economic Survey (thanks to Mrunal sir).
