RBI Grade B officer (Preliminary) exam was held on August 3, 2014 (Sunday) in two sessions. But since this exam is to be conducted online=>difficult for next years’ aspirant to find “previous question” papers. Therefore, I request all the readers, to share following data AFTER exam is over, in the comments below.
- What was the Span of current affairs latest and oldest topic asked in General Awareness?
- How much PIN (persons in news?) by the way, PIN-2014 series has been uploaded long time back. in case you missed, go to https://mrunal.org/current#pin
- General idea on “topicwise breakup” – in general awareness. How much economy (budget related), how much banking sector related and so on. Did they ask computer awareness in it?
- How tough was English section compared to SBI PO and CSAT?
- How tough / lengthy was Maths/DI section compared to other exams. Did they ask chillar questions like profit loss, or was it entirely focused on lengthy data interpretation as in SBI PO? what was the overall breakup?
- Reasoning section: did they ask high level reasoning like syllogism, assertion-reasoning, course of action etc?

dont expecting anything
this year prelims rbi grade b was easy compared to last year.very basic questions and expected questions in general awareness, quant, reasoning was above average.english was as usually cake walk. i managed to attempt 150 with accuracy of 90%.lets wait for the result.
Ashwin
I have re collected some 68 questions, but hard to type I guess. Any other way? Pl suggest
cld attempt only 112!! looks like gone case….
There was a passage in English section where you had to fill blanks. It had been taken from here http://www.economist.com/news/britain/21594988-striking-recovery-labour-market-and-problem-mark-carney-working-it
Gave exam in the evening shift:
Total attempt:165 gs:80 English:30 maths:15 :( reasoning: 40
I got 122 (41+24+24+33) in the last year, missed cutoff by 4 marks. This year GS was quite easy (even questions like who is the current governor of rbi?) English was same like last year. Coming to maths, boy, it was tough and time consuming. There is one triple pi-chart data interpretation with big numbers, even the other data interpretation was time taking. Coming to Reasoning, it was also time taking. All in all This year level for maths and reasoning were increased.
This year You will sail through….I recon Maths cut off will be between 8-12
Thank you. But just one thing, in the above I mentioned that they’ve asked about current RBI gov, actually my friend said they hve asked current RBI gov followed whom? Silly mistake by me, I don’t know how many I did of that sort :(
hello when would the results be out?? the rbi site says tentative date is sept….and one more query..since so few seats such bloody competition…for paper 2 is it necessary for classroom coaching?? looking forward to your valuable opinions..
seeing the general response i think quant and reasoning were not nice..so overall cutoff expected to plonk from previous levels i reckon…
Hi Mrunal sir,
I appeard in afternoon slot (3rd aug)..
I will share my experience on section basis:
1.General awareness:
This section was an easy section. It had questions fron economy GK (60-70%) as well as current affairs(30-40%), Also there were 2 question from static GK.. like (birth place of gautam buddha)
On that basis 60-65 ws good attempt
2.English
Surprisingly, this was not very easy section as in case of ibps…because there were just 30 question..and 7-8 question were bit tricky.. (parajumble and sentence joining)
Avg attempts 18-24
3.reasoning
Again it has no variation in type of questions. Pattern was same as that of bank exams
Avg attempts 35-40
4.Qantative:
Surprisingly this was tough and time consuming..
Avg attempts 10-15
Cutt off should be somwhere bw 100-120
Atttempted only 126.
Reasoning-18.No expectation.
My exam was in the morning shift. My experience was ok with the exam. Considering the high cut-offs in this exam, I feel I might have done better. My attempt was as follows-
79 in GK, 30 in English, 19 in Maths, 38 in Reasoning.
Reasoning section was ok only if you choose right questions. I could not do any puzzle as it was time-consuming. I must have wasted around 10 minuted on it without any answers. English was easy as expected. Maths was tougher than I expected. Today’s Maths reminded me of SBI-PO had genuine time-consuming and difficult maths section.
Now remains the “loved” GK section. For me, it was hit and miss. Some questions were too easy like–
main character in film Bobby Jasoos,
main character in film Kochadiyaan
youngest female to scale mt. everest
who is ajit doval?
and some difficult ones which i cant remember. Overall GK was not easy. No questions from Sports section. It was more of daily current affairs plus fact based trivia.
Exam: Morning Shift
GK was very factual type: Attempted 49/80
English: 21/30
Quantz was time-consuming: 16/30
Reasoning was average: 31/60
Total Attempt: 117/200 (Max 4-5 guesses)
Number of vacancies more & decrease in the number of candidates will have some impact on cut-offs.. Fingers Crossed!!!
GA: 71
ENG:15
QA: 10
LR: 25
Total : 12
95% Accuracy
Cut off for Quant will fall sleeply. Was so time consuming
Reasoning- level of difficulty was same as that of last year.
I would like to know whether u think that cut off for reasoning will fall or not :)
And the left is left to God!!!

I attempted this exam from Mysore, Karnataka after about 8 days of preparation. And this was my first attempt at RBI grade ‘B’. The General awareness was pretty manageable (One thing I learnt about this exam is that you need to read and absorb newspapers even the minute details) and I did well in english section too. The Reasoning part was tougher than expected and especially tougher last year’s exam and so was the case with quant. Both were elaborate and time consuming. There were few questions that you could get it very quickly though they were listed in the end though. I felt that they had intentionally made it tough and time consuming in these two sections .With the clock ticking in the right hand corner of the screen in the exam, In my opinion, overall you could say the exam was between average and difficult but tilted more towards difficult itself. I do not know what would be a cut off score in such a scenario. Lets see and hope for the best. Would like to read more comments from other people. But looks like most people were screwed by Quant & reasoning.
Dear Sir,
my attempt
gs = 56
eng = 23
maths = 18
reason = 21
total = 118
what r my chances??
gs and eng was ok…quant was tough and reasoning was v tough….looking at time constraint reasoning and maths was v tough.

Yes sure. My mail id lituncse@gmail.com
i think this year paper was tougher than last year bt GK part was ok on the other hand quantitative was quite difficult at least for me .
Reasoning was bit tougher even though questions were puzzle based bt they were very difficult nd this time some changes have also been introduced in english section even though i attempted 4 out of first 5 questions bt still unable to understand what was really asked.
QUANTITATIVE part was difficult as data interpretation was very time consuming nd bit difficult also nd was able to do only 11/30.
BUt i think this yr cut off may be lower than last year’s cut off.
bcoz last year i appeared without much prep. nd scored 113. bt this year could attempt only 138 nd that too wd only 11 in qunt. ..FINGERS CROSSED
i only attempted 112 /200
What was the Span of current affairs latest and oldest topic asked in General Awareness?
3 Months
How much PIN (persons in news?)
Ariund 5 to 6. WB boss, marathi film new comer, writers, Magsaysay awardee ( not currect but old, so this was G.S, cabinet minister’s portfolio)
“topicwise breakup”
economy (budget related),
20 minimum. Ranging from CAD I’m dollars to in depth definitions
All covered by Mrunal.org
how much banking sector related and so on.
Around 15. Negotiable instruments, rbi role, associate bank of sbi, neft, rtgs, upper limit of collateral free loan to women entrepreneur by Mahila bank etc.
Comment: Not detailed. Only superficial.
All covered by mrunal.org
Did they ask computer awareness in it? E investment initiative by Ministry of Commerce is called? That was it if you don’t count rtgs and neft here
How tough was English section compared to SBI PO and CSAT?
Tougher. What I found tough wasn’t the passage like in CSAT (R.C, not English wali English the one which is printed in both english & hindi), nor the word meaning thing. But compared to other exams it was tough. Specially logical sequencing of statements. Don’t know about SBI PO. But RBI English isn’t like CSAT to check language but like in CAT to check comprehension
How tough / lengthy was Maths/DI section compared to other exams.
I’m very poor in maths. I couldn’t attend many questions. I found it to the level of ssc and ipbs po.
Did they ask chillar questions like profit loss, or was it entirely focused on lengthy data interpretation as in SBI PO?
No chillar questions. All needed effort.
L.R section
Each question followed by 5 sub questions. But not simple puzzles. Even round table had 3 factors like language, identity and position.
what was the overall breakup?
G.K=80(67)
English=30(20)
Quant=30(forgot)
L.R=60(37)
syllogism-can’t recall, but no,
assertion-reasoning- can’t recall, but no course of action can’t recall, but no
pattern-I’m a NoOb at RBI
trend-I’m a NoOb at RBI
wisdom- N00B
tips for future aspirants
Take required docs
Clean the thick black accumulated dirt under mouse. It’s very irritating
Work on quant and l.r religiously. But don’t prepare trigonometry, conditional probability, surd, indicies. Work on basics but in details do the most difficult questions of ratio, percent, area & volume etc.
And sometimes even rbi trolls. So be light headed as in csat! Specially in questions like
Statement 1 is enough
Statement 2 is enough
Both together
Either, neither
Don’t try to calculate them.
Dear Mrunal Sir,
I wrote the exam in the afternoon session
Here are some of the GA questions I could Remember
1) President Of World Bank
2)Uttrakhand Disaster Loan by which agency
3)Function of IMF
4)Who accompanied Modi on his maiden visit to Bhutan ?
5)First nation visited by Modi as PM
6)Eco survey CAD details
7)Where does the Priority Sector Lending money go if not used
8) Relation between Bank and customer in terms of credit card
9)SARFAESI Act
10) Who buys NPA from Banks ?
11) Where were FIFA 14 finals played ?
Most of the GA questions were easy and they had also asked some questions from finance and marketing, which was easy by elimination method.
English was generally easy but RBI asked a new set of jumble sentence which was little confusing. Same old fill in the banks, same meaning, opp meaning, arranging the sentences etc were there.
QA
0ne question from Probability, DI , Boats and streams question, Number series(I found this tuff !, wasted time here ). two eqns were given, solve for x and y, check whether its xy etc. There were about five questions of this type.
Reasoning
This was all about time management
Two parallel rows, efgh and ikjl plus country names given, first row facing north and other south, 5 questions related to this
Syllogism, Inequalities, Round table arrangement with language spoken 5 questions related to this.
Floor arrangement. who stay on which floor,
Data sufficiency, Cause and effect, inference question, coding questions,
Input output was really tricky, not the usual ibps,

Mrunal sir thank u.. for ur materials…
Aptitude was time consuming,,..
English they hv sentence correction in a different type… like A/B/C statements….
Reasoning moderate….
I assume most of the response made under the GS are the students from 2nd sitting. I ecountered question like,
FMC
Actor play the role Mr Bean
Budget 2014 related (6);
rajnikanth
CEO of Infosys,
Commerce Secretary
75 gs 25eng 37 reasong quant was very tough.. could not attend any thing other than DI..
thought of sharing gs qustns but almost all are shared..
all the best aspirants… mrunal ji need your support for next notification. . as study plan was not updated. . thanks a lot for ur strong support in indian economy through the blog.. I have been following it since 2012 , I have been apearing for rbi gradi b in 2011,2013 and now 2014 also.. I could clearly find the difference between my first attempt and 2014 in economics.. read all your posts in economy. . helped me a lot.. thank u
Attended RBi grade b exam, morning shift,Chennai.Started off with quants..DI contained of around 3 tricky and 2 simple questions for each fig, quants was relatively manageable attended 23/30,next came to english..found jumbled a little tricky and took around 10 mins to solve it(not recommendable)..RC,fill in etc was quite easy..attended 30/30…next GA..Some were very straight forward but economice consisted of few tricky ones, skipped plain data related ques and managed to attend 58/60(whichever ques i was 90% sure of,and skipped the doubtful ones-no “luck by chance” attempted here.)..finally came to reasoning…had 45 mins in hand..Seating arrangement was quite tricky and took time to solve, another one with 4 facing north n 4 facing south, and respective cities-was equally diff..took up lot of time..Person on diff floors, etc was very straightforward..cause and effect,strong/weak statement etc were quite solvable..left out input output completely due to lack of time..attempted 55/60…total attempt 166/200….Thank you Mr.Mrunal for all the wonderful economic articles(especially eco survey)..was immensely helpful….
My paper was in evening shift. Paper was above average.i am not from economics background but since preparing for banks, knows some eco. Read Ramesh Singh as sugg by Mrunal.
Reasoning was moderate. Some que was simple but time consuming, like blood relations -5 que, statements which weakens and strengthen, inequalities, syllogism, 2 big puzzles eg. 8 people sitting in two rows in plane seat. 8 people frm 8 countries to be arranged with thier seat numbers.
English was easy. Passage was easy on financial inclusion. Took long time in sentence arrangement.
Quant. D.I was very time consuming. Two circles given with 7 stores selling acad books and non acad books both and another circle with only academy books. Lots of calculation. Time consuming. 2 D.I que was there around 7 que each. 5 que on series…..not able to crack them as usually they have some stupid logics. Some 5 que was given in maths like 2 statements which is suff to give the ans. Which probably helped me and gave something to look forward to.
GA was moderate, some total “no idea que” but some very simple que.
Who is the finance minister?
Which minister lost mp election but is a minister in modi cabinet?
Who constitute economic committe in modi govt? Name of ministers
Modi first country visit foreign?
Who wrote the lowland?
Currency of countries, 4 options given, find mismatch
Match Capital of countries
Chief of world bank
Whom IMF give money? Developing countries, developing member countries…
Who buy loans from banks incase of npa
Football wc final in which city?

How companies arrange capital for Large infra projects, name of process? Securitization etc
First newspaper was published in which country?
How much is CAD, according to eco survey?
What are negotiable instruments?
Which is government security in given list? Cheque, tbills etc
In a nutshell, good banking knowledge will help u in GA. And lots of speed practice in reasoning wil help to clear this exam. Total attempted was 124. Reserved cat.
overall 140 ( some 15-20 questions guess work)
gk 55
english 25
quant 14
reasoning 46 (not entirely sure as certain questions were marked for review and mostly i selected them as well)
Quant and reasoning were tough. but and given that GK was more factual and enligh tougher than last time (my perception ) – i believe the cut off may come down but not sure as it could have been tough for me and not for the people who would clear :)
well given the above my experience is as below :)
GK : This part was easy to average and mostly factual 40+ is definetly doable and 50+ is not too difficult (if you knew the facts)
English : it was not easy and i would say it was tougher than spi po. Especially the passage. (generally i am good at english hence it was ok for me)
Quant : Similar to sbipo this section was time consuming
Reasoning : well it defintely was not like 2010 or 2011 yes there were some circle, row questions but the other ones like relation and i/o were time consuming and the conclusion & statements based questions were more analytical. Therefore though i did do 45 odd questions i am not sure of my accuracy
overall : personally i am unhappy with my effort as i felt i consumed more time in quant – which if i had spent on reasoning would have cracked 4-5 more question. regarding chance of clearing defintely below 50% probably slightly above 40% :)
Cutoff : general : 110 -115 (but like i said if it was only me or select few of us who felt it difficult it could be like last year around 125)
All the best for those who will be writing it in coming weeks.
One suggestion would be that don’t spend more than 30 mins in quants and when you start quickly skim those questions you will be attempting (as not more that 15 is required) and just crack those alone and move on. Time could be better spent elsewhere
Attempted 147 qns. In AN.
In g.k. 4 qns regd cabinet mins (who is a min but lost in election) 3 qns regd SAARC (what does C in SAARC stands for) .. Around 40 qns were from economics,5 qns boks related
Could attempt only 17 qns in quants.
Reasoning had quite a few no. Of high level (5 syllogism qns, 10 data interpretation qns requiring accurate answers)
English was quite easy (5 qns on sentence arrangement,9 qns on para-words filling)
Strategy:
Reasoning : sbi po level
Quantatative: DI and Data sufficiency is the key ( 20 ), quadratic equations is a lottery (simple ).
english: Average
general awareness: current economy 30 ( upsc students can easily manage 20+ )
theory econonomy 30 ( upsc students can manage 10-12 )
general current 20 ( person, awards, book name, etc )
questions:
Present rbi governor SUCCEEDED whom?
PSL not met amount goes to which fund?
Uttarkand was funded by which international org,? ( flood disaster 2013)
Modi first visited which INTERNational STATE?
Modi first accompanied by which cabinet minister for out of nation trip?
who amongst given, lost LK election yet is a cabinet minister?
SBi associates bank are how many in number?
dadasaheb palke award 2013 winner?
last year fiscal deficit in billion dollar
imf function is which among these.. ( options were tricky like upsc )
which among these is NOT rbi function.
money supply is managed by which among the below? ( options were tricky like upsc )
which among defines inflation ? ( options were tricky like upsc )
Who among below PRAISED Modi jhi’s invitation to NAWAS SHERIF ?
this year reasoning part was very tough (above average) , GK and Eng Was ok types. maths was time consuming, overall paper was mixedbag,
but looking at num of seats and num of candidates the cutoff will go a bit lower. what say friends?
i attempted 21 in reasoning , very disappointed.
Gave RBI grade B afternoon session …
GK –
current affairs : latest , from April at the most.
static : ncert , ramesh singh n Mrunal Sir’s articles .
[EASY — if u have read seriously!!]
English –
standard stuff .
cloze test , parajumbles , comprehension ….
[EASY — standard stuff]
Reasoning –
NO syllogism (surprisingly ) !!!
inequalities , arrangements (4X5=20ques , 2 tough 2 easy ) , inferences , assertion-reasoning , data sufficiency .
[ MODERATE — it was time consuming , time rahega toh u can solve it!]
Quants –
linear equations (5) , Number series (5) {included in quants suprisingly } , data interpretations (2X5=10 ques) , 1 each of probability boats profit-discount, …
[Tough — series was discreet , not from standard variation completely different , time matters(time rahega toh moderate)!!! ]
How much cutoff do you expect??
