Request: share your exam experience
RBI Grade B officer (Preliminary) exam was held on August 3, 2014 (Sunday) in two sessions. But since this exam is to be conducted online=>difficult for next years’ aspirant to find “previous question” papers. Therefore, I request all the readers, to share following data AFTER exam is over, in the comments below.
- What was the Span of current affairs latest and oldest topic asked in General Awareness?
- How much PIN (persons in news?) by the way, PIN-2014 series has been uploaded long time back. in case you missed, go to https://mrunal.org/current#pin
- General idea on “topicwise breakup” – in general awareness. How much economy (budget related), how much banking sector related and so on. Did they ask computer awareness in it?
- How tough was English section compared to SBI PO and CSAT?
- How tough / lengthy was Maths/DI section compared to other exams. Did they ask chillar questions like profit loss, or was it entirely focused on lengthy data interpretation as in SBI PO? what was the overall breakup?
- Reasoning section: did they ask high level reasoning like syllogism, assertion-reasoning, course of action etc?
- Other observations about pattern, trend, wisdom, tips for future aspirants.

The quanti and Reasoning section is going to decide the cut-off.
And reasoning was not basic reasoning, rather it had 10-15 questions kind quantitative. Over all these 2 sections can be segregated into basic quanti/numericals, basic reasoning; pie-chart 6-8 questions, data interpretations 5-6. Input/output 5-6 questions, equations around 6-7 questions etc.
1. German Chancellor
2. IMF president
1. Capital Markets othername
2. German Chancellor
3. IMF President
4. Secretary of Ministry of Finance
5. FDI Cap in Insurance
6. FCCB defination and expansion of code
7. New movie of Rajinakanth
8. FIFA final match held at
9. If repo rate incrased what the sytem will have
GK is fully of CUrrent Issues and budget related issue rather than static, – Question are not related to Books and its author and Awards
Maths:- Little bit tough (Sectional Cut off made weighter and tougher for non Maths Background)
Reasoning:- Was good but there are around 5 questions ” which says two sentence was given and three alternatives are given and to make complete sentence you can use any of them of three alternatives BUT meaning should not be changed
English:- quite easy and intersting
First of all Thanks a zillion to Mrunal sir for such an astounding initiative in the form of mrunal.org that acts as a protection jacket during the journey to any competitive exam. i request the readers not to consider my further reply too much serious as i am a civil services aspirant hence i am writing what i felt about the concluded RBI grade B officers exam. i may sound over confident or absolutely absurd, all credit goes to the mother of exams. well here is my experience.
1. General awareness:
i have given my first strike to this section as i wanted to boost myself in other tricky areas. it is fortunate that i was able to answer 72 questions in my convenient time. as soon as i opened, the question “which among the following countries hosted FIFA worldcup 2014” appeared, my expectations started going to vain. then some questions like asking the name of the acters from mister bean, the author of a book “a tail of 2 cities”, chief of NSA, match the following “countries and capital” which was dead easy to answer, and no much important questions were asked on PIN’s perspective. in case of banking, RBI’s credit control, credit creation, banking lisence to bandan, ETC. on economics, question on SEBI, intangible asset, usage of currency by countries, questions from annual financial statement july 2014, economic survey 2014, ETC. totally GA section didn’t had much enough to test the well-prepared candidates. it was a walk in the park.
2. numerics:
after GA, i have chosen to spend my boosted up time in numerics, and felt awesome as soon as i got the first question from boats and stream area. then a question from allegation and mixture where the successive deduction of juice and addition of water finally we have to find the percentage of available juice made me feel interesting and motivated me a lot. i must thank our Mrunal sir for enlightening such an easy way to tackle allegation and mixture related problems. then DI problems where i have to spend a little extra time than i’ve decided, questions on data sufficiency especially on profit and loss made me feel interesting. questions on series completion somewhat tested my temper, but i feel that i was able to manage by attending 18 questions. difficulty level is standard as it used to be in RBI.
3. then i have jumped into reasoning while i have been left with 64 minutes. here i would like to note, i have 20 minutes extra for every hour so i had 40 minutes extra compared to other candidates that is non differently abled. reasoning made me somewhat stiff and holding my nerves seemed to be little tricky. syllogism questions were interesting and funny i can say all my syllogism questions were correct. in case of seating arrangements i struggled a bit to focus. in blood relation, i was able to do well. totally i have answered 37 out of 60. the difficulty level was standard as it used to be in RBI.
4. English. when i have been left 14 minutes, i have jumped to english and able to finish 22 questions in 12 minutes. i left the first 10 questions from comprehention and solved the rest 20 that was just like chewing a boneless chicken. after finishing 10, i’ve just given a gaze to first 2 questions from comprehention which came to me in handy hence 22 questions out of 30. the difficulty level to me is no where in english section. finally when i’ve finished, i felt relaxed and ease not like fatigue as it was in last year’s exam. totally i have attempted 149 questions. comparing RBI grade B exam with SBI PO, i feel SBI PO exams seems heavier than the RBI. still i feel little disappointed because of the GA questions in this exam. thinking of testing the calibre of the candidate by asking acterrs names sounds too funny. the overall experience to me was good, now i believe that i must clear face 1. but in a general perspective, RBI need not have under valued its candidates to this much. again i thank Mrunal sir for being my mentor since i started my journey towards competitive exams.
thank you all.
Too Many Questions on Cabinet ministers ..Level of paper dragged down to MAKE MONEY via applications (2015)
SBI PO got total of 22 lakhs application now multiply 80% of that with 500 and rest with 100 thats a huge amount .
Looks like RBI has chosen the same path . from next year the total no of applicants will increase .
Hii Friends,
I qualified last year but that doesnt make me an expert since my marks were 126 and the total cut off was also 126….However the paper was tough when compared to last year. I attended the morning session on 3rd Aug
1. English—-> English was definitely tough when compared to last year. Because I was able to score 30/30 last year but this year i was compelled leave 5 questions which were based on para jumble.
2. Quant—> Tough when compared to last year . There were 10 question based on data interpretation and they were damn easy. But this tym attempt was limited to 20 (all question except those based on DI).
3.GK—> Same as last year, however some questions were really horrific like “Who is playing the role of detective in the movie BOBBY JASOOS”(though I knew the answer, but a to be grade-B officer really needs to know that??)
4. Reasoning –> It was moderate but lengthy…..
gud luk to other candidates

Last yr sectional cut offs??
My total attempts were 162.
with the accuracy you mentioned(95%) and the attempt(162)… start preparing for phase 2
Hi guys.. I gave my exam on August 3rd evening session. I have a query regarding the number of attempts. . After the test the screen showed –
Answered questions – 128
Unanswered questions- 59
Marked for review – 13
So what are my total number of attempts – 128 or 141 ? Please help !
it cannot be known…because marked for review contains two types of questions. one, which you have asnwered and marked and another one is which you have not answered and marked it for review. Let say your 13 marked may contain 12 answered and marked and one may be not answered but marked. but who knows the other possibility except you.
@man same dilemma with me bro. showing marked for review in ga 25 & i think it is attempted 50 not answered.
hi all, can somebody tell me in what ratio to no.of posts will RBI promote candidates to next phase? atleast any past info on this?
coming to my experience, I wrote at hyderabad mrng session. as most of the q’s are already mentioned and anlysis I would nt again do that but I would like to that, knowing which q’s to attempt and which ones not to, must have made the difference.
coming to myself total 147 attempts. ga 70 quant 20 reasng 35 eng 22. overall nice experience. thanks again to mrunal sir as he is helping our generation by easing our efforts in competing exams.I can say definitely that there is definitely a difference in marks between the ones who are mrunalites and the non -mrunalites.
Last year, around 2000 were selected for phase-2. Vacancies were 98.
I wrote RBI Grade B Officer Exam on Morning of 3rd of August. The toughest part of the examination was reaching to the centre which was 35 kilometres away from my place of residence in Hyderabad. If I had gone for a Cab or Auto it would have cost me atleast 1000 rupees. As I had already spent 850 in filling the form so I prefered Public Transport and started my journey at 5 am and reached at centre at 8.30 am somehow.
After this ordeal Exam seemed very easy to me specially GA section. There were hardly any thinking based questions. Mostly were based on simple current affairs. GA was on similar lines as SBI PO.
Next Section was English. First 5 question in this section I did not attempt, and wisely so because I just could not understanding what was being asked. Rest of the part was average. So I attempted rest of the 25 questions.
Next Section was Quant. Although questions were a little tricky but they were no way near to the toughness level of SBI PO 2014. In SBI PO 2014 Quant was horrendous. I could not even sleep that night after giving SBI PO exam because those graphs of DI kept coming in front of my eyes as I closed my eyes. So Quant here was much easier, I attempted 19 and those equations where values of x has to be calculated came to my rescue.
Last was Reasoning, which was just similar to all the Banking Reasoning exams. There was not much difference between SBI PO and this in this section. I attempted here 38.
So in total I attempted 155, and Thanks to outgoing Congress government I have little hope for selection. This was my first exam as an OBC Candidate. Earlier I was in General category.
Did you vote/would you have voted for the Congress (or UPA) candidate?
No, I would never vote for Congress. Till now all my exams have been as a general candidate. Even SBI PO was as a General Candidate. But suddenly I became Backward overnight. This is laughable but what can I do in that?
opting for OBC quota is one’s own choice and cant be blamed on any govt. .you are being a hypocrite if you curse someone for that and still opting to reap the benefits of quota.
If you have really attempted 155 questions with proper accuracy then you have a realistic chance of clearing it esp now that you have a quota.Last year’s OBC cut off was 113.
how you become OBC candidate
please reply me
Reservation is a never ending issue in INDIA bcz of you guys.. who just think for their own benifit..
Poor peoples and socialy backward peoples are in every cast.. but who cares.. Anyway best of luck for your OBC quota..
I am no Mahatma Gandhi. I am just a normal guy just like you who wants to get a good job in reputed Organisation and take care of my family and myself well .So don’t blame me for being a hypocrite. If Government gives me quota I will avail it but I don’t support it. This is morally wrong but practically right. Anyway Got 104 marks 10 marks less than my expectations. I cleared overall quota for General 104 but in Sectional cut offs OBC saved me. Got only 10 in Quant . Not happy with that I attempted 19. How could I get so many wrong in Quant ?
This is the only way rbi come up to make profit in the period of inflation….^.^.^
i think cut off would be near about 110 for gen

GA questions:
1. what is real name of “Pancham Da”?
2. who among the following is not an economist? Nandan Nilekani
Hi Everyone. It was my second attempt. Last time could not clear interview.
About This exam:-
Date 3 Aug, Afternoon slot, pune.
GS:- Mostly focused on current affairs, with factual data. Modi’s government grabbed 7-8 questions. So reading news paper will suffice for these type of questions. Given 5 choices it becomes difficult to guess if one is not confident. Also one of the options was all of the above or none of the given, so u have to have facts correct. (Pancham dais the name of …. Ans is R D Burman, but in options S. D Burman was given and another option was none of these).
Eng:- paper was average.
Quant:- I found it tough with questions on number series, x-y equations. I found that lot of my friends mugged the formulae in arihants book, but too much of short cut formulae became hindrance in thinking ability. According to my opinion try to clear cut off 10-14 marks, and then go for reasoning. (Except for those who have command over quant). Last time i solved 12, got 12 correct and cut off was 12! (obc)
Reasoning:- Average questions. Questions like circular arrangement/relations whichever i found time consuming, i tried to answer only those ones for which whole picture need not be clear. 2/3 questions can be solved without fully deciphering the arrangement. thus it will save time if anybody is getting confused.
Attempt:- GS 78 (20-22 min), Eng 24 (19-20 min), Qunt 14(40-42 min) , Rsng 32 (~50 min) Total 148.
GS:- Newspaper, Mrunals PIN and other current affairs posts
Eng:- Any std book and questions papers from banking chronicles and various government exams.
Quant:- R.S.Agarwal
Reasoning:- Internet sources
Dear Amnik,
Will you share how did you prepare for RBI Mains? Please tell me the books, references to be made for English, Eco, Fin, Manag all three papers.
Thanks
Hi…
I had a hard luck at the center.. I took my pan card fr id proof bt dey didnt alow me to tk xam bcz the name on my pan card ws puja and in the admit card I mentioned my title…
as I dint face sch dilemma before on producing pan card so wasnt prepared fr sch tough time..
is there any way to express my concern wid RBI authority…
wid this I want to bring to everyones notic nt to repeat mistak which I did…
Did they allow You to appear? There was similar case at our centre, the guy had something missing, so he kept his valuables with authorities and after exam he submitted the necessary document. What we could hear was that he promised to submit documents and thus he was allowed to appear.
Hi puja…same happens with me….wat was ur center..we are 5 guys having the same case at dehradun center who suffered such sarkari stupidity….
Hi Puja,
it was written in admit card that name on letter and id proof should be same. Please do not try to deform your name while filling any form. Try to mention same name as you have in your 10th 12 mark sheet and id proof(f they are not the alter ego then try to get it changed in your id proof as well).
Thanks for the inputs guys…
my center ws in ranchi n I hd to travel fr two hrs to reach dere. I cudnt giv false commitmnt to produce the relevant docs after taking xam as it wsnt posbl to get back to the center the same day …
so I wsnt alowd to tak d xam…
Moreover , while filling up the form for pan one exclusively mentions the name one wants to appear on his or her pan card n so I mentioned Puja without the title. Also ones issued pan card after the person submits relevant docs. Still they questioned the id proof. Eventhough photgraph dob and father’s name was mentioned.
I had requested the concerned authority to update the name in my pan card by writing an application.
Total 136 but was only 06..lost
Total 136 but qa only 06..lost
it cannot be known…because marked for review contains two types of questions. one, which you have asnwered and marked and another one is which you have not answered and marked it for review. Let say your 13 marked may contain 12 answered and marked and one may be not answered but marked. but who knows the other possibility except you.
I gave this exam last year also in which I scored 112 marks after attempting 172 questions. This year I was quite unlucky to reach my center at 2:30 pm while the reporting time was 1:30 pm bcz the address provided on my admit card was somewhat misleading & no one on NH 24 knew where this Jindal Nagar exists where my center lied. Anyways, the college staff was helpful enough to let me sit in the exam without cutting my time. Last year I attempted 55/60 in reasoning & scored 48 in it, but this time I found reasoning tougher than last year & I could attempt just 43. I just don’t know why everyone is saying that reasoning was tough. Maths was way tougher than last year, & I attempted 20/30 in it. English was also tougher than last year in which I attempted 28/30. Then GA, I would say was way easier than last year in which I attempted 67/80. I attempted 158/200 overall, & I am quite disappointed to attempt just 43 in reasoning, bcz that was my forte & I was just couldn’t solve those puzzle questions, which I usually do with ease. Last year I couldn’t clear the exam bcz of scoring just 35 in GA, though this time I have done well in GA, but I am worried about reasoning. Overall I think that cut off this year will drop by around 10 marks bcz of lesser no. of candidates & tougher level of english, quant & reasoning(what I observed) as well.
correction- I wanted to say that I dnt know why everyone is saying that reasoning was easy while I found it tough this time
Ga- easier than last yr but could not attempt many 45
Eng- moderate 30
Quant- 17 tough
reason- 35 mod
last yr bhi ga main gaya tha
Any prediction on cutoff?
I attempted 129.Dont know when time got over..:)
Was it call money duration or call money market duration , can’t recollect properly ….
Call money market – it has maturity up to 14 days , I think I marked 15 days option….
Call money – 1 day … It seems this one is the correct …
Call money- demand me jo loan dia jata he.
1 day k lie hota he.
4 may 2014 ko call money ko replace karke MSF aya.
NOtice money- 2-14 days k lie.
Term money- 14 days above
Friends..!!..I have taken the said exam in evening shift at Bhopal..it seemed quite easy..but due to lack of preparation..I could attempt only 140 questions..but I think average attempt is 145..
Hi all,
I am a working professional. I wanted to give an attempt to this RBI grade B for the last 3 yrs, and it came true this year.
As this is my first attempt, i was so blank with the question pattern but the 2013 question paper gave me some clues over it, 2 days before the examination.
First i would like to thank mrunal for his exceptional work, through lakhs of aspirants are getting benefited.
1. First GS was easy as everyone experienced. i have made some where around 62 with probably 90% accuracy.
2. English, was like a piece of cake, I made 25 in 20 mins with 90% accuracy.
3. Aptitude, which sucked most of my time, i managed to do only 14 with 100% accuracy. The mistake i had done here is, i was deriving the formula for surface area of the cylinder :) as i forgot the formula and then at the end of 10 mins struggle, i end up in wrong answer. cursing myself, moved on to reasoning with just 35 mins of time left.
4. managed to make just 31 with relatively 85-90% of accuracy. Spent some time in searching for the easy questions and counting the number of questions answered in between at times :) :) (so stupid right??)…i missed 10 more questions in this section.
over all around 125. I was wondering how much the cutoff would be. I started analysing how much this time would be. Last time 2013, the question paper is very easy. particularly in logical reasoning, the 5 questions in the syllogism is a cake walk, and the input output problem, arrangements were very easy compared to this time.
Also, the aptitude was very very easy in 2013 compared to this time.
And based on the comments here, i figured the paper is relatively tough to everyone. So no worries :).
And one more is last time the exam in offline mode, and this time in online, which some what aggravated the time consuming.
So, if the cut off for OBC last time was 116, so this time, it will definitely come down around 100-105 for OBC.
So, lets hope for our best. Have to start concentrate on UPSC atleast. Cannot afford to make any such mistakes in UPSC.
All the best guys.
I had the exam in the mrng… most of the questions being covered already here … I was as usual haunted as I do in IBPS exams…

English – moderate level of comprehension and Sentence Arrangement Q’s. and there was a very peculiar section which I could not get what it was. They had given 2 sentences (question and 3 answer options. It was like we have to merge those sentences and the new merged sentence should begin with either of the any options or all.
Aptitude – found it very difficult
1. 2 Sets of DI – One was table and the other was pie chart. Table part had – data given in ratios of literate (M/F) and illiterate(M/F) people, total number of literate people given, couldn’t even solve one. Pie chart part had 2 pie’s :) , one pie about number of laptops (include Dell and XYZ) sold for A,B,C .. companies and the other pie about total number of Dell laptop’s sold for A,B,C… companies… so each Q involved us to solve 2 pie’s.. very very time consuming
2. Solving Quadratic equations (4-5)
3. Data Sufficiency (3-4) (1 Q had Profit and Loss)
4. Probability (1)
5. Time and work (1)
6. Finding Wrong Numbers (4-5)
7. Area- Volume (1)
Reasoning – Average but couldn’t find time to solve all
1. Seating Arrangement – one on circular arrangement (8 people with 8 different professions ), linear arrangement (7 people residing in 7 floors)
2. SOT – It looked easy, but very tricky (arranging numbers and alphabets in a sequence asc/dec )
3. Some Syllogism Q’s (possibility type)
4. Coded Inequalities
5. Puzzle Test (A,B,C…. given with some conditions, B lighter than C, A heavier thsn B type)
6. 4 Statements given in a coded language – 4-5 question to find out proper code
7. Statements – argument
8. Blood Relations
Attempted around 137 but not with 100% accuracy. Going by my success rates in IBPS exams(not even cleared once), I will wait for the results to start preparation for phase-2.
All the best for other aspirants
Good luck!

GA 73
English 29
QA 26
Reasoning 32
I have little hope for selection. First thanks to my parents. I came from Delhi to Hyderabad for this exam. I was in dilemma to give the exam or not. But my mother strictly told me to come and write. After completion of the exam I felt very happy because the paper was very easy.
Reasoning was very easy but i didn’t manage my time.practice is the essence of genius in this section.if i may practice i will get better marks..
All the best ..
My RBI-Grade B exam was on afternoon session:
Total question attempted 138
GA: 71
Eng:16
Q: 16
R: 35
overall a good exp little worried about English….i should have done 20+ to be on safer side
otherwise i am confident to get a call for main…………..everything will be cleared in next 15-20 days :)
Very Informative website………………………………All the best to all of you :)
