RBI Grade B officer (Preliminary) exam was held on August 3, 2014 (Sunday) in two sessions. But since this exam is to be conducted online=>difficult for next years’ aspirant to find “previous question” papers. Therefore, I request all the readers, to share following data AFTER exam is over, in the comments below.
- What was the Span of current affairs latest and oldest topic asked in General Awareness?
- How much PIN (persons in news?) by the way, PIN-2014 series has been uploaded long time back. in case you missed, go to https://mrunal.org/current#pin
- General idea on “topicwise breakup” – in general awareness. How much economy (budget related), how much banking sector related and so on. Did they ask computer awareness in it?
- How tough was English section compared to SBI PO and CSAT?
- How tough / lengthy was Maths/DI section compared to other exams. Did they ask chillar questions like profit loss, or was it entirely focused on lengthy data interpretation as in SBI PO? what was the overall breakup?
- Reasoning section: did they ask high level reasoning like syllogism, assertion-reasoning, course of action etc?
- Other observations about pattern, trend, wisdom, tips for future aspirants.

General Awareness
Maximum qsns were from economy and span of current affairs was May to July!! PIN qsns were simple like post of Ajit Doval n who is attorney general. Conceptual economic qsns were easy if level of preparation was UPSC. But qsns on facts n figures from Budget speech and economic survey were tough….spclly when in every qsn dere was 5th option of other than mentioned above!! May for qsns of figures economic survey or mrunal sir’s survey lecture on it shld b thoroughly done
English
Very easy. Nothing from grammer. Meanings and opposites were easy. One comprehension wid direct qsns from d passage and one qsn on theme of passage. Here dere was one new variety of qsns to test how you can join to sentences. Since i havn’t seen such qsns earlier it took some time. D qsns were 5 in number n pattern was as follow
2 statements were given and den 3 lines were given by which u cld join dose stmts either using those lines in d begining or middle or last. Options were like u cld join dose stmts by Using all 3 lines together den any one line individually or any two lines or none.
Reasoning was easy but time was less and main component was of high level
Reasoning. All qsns were same as given in M.K. Pandey. Some qsns were directly lifted from it. For e.g. In cause and effect there is one qsn on lung cancer to passive smoker therefor govt. wranings at public places of no smoking.
Syllogism 6-7 qsns (very easy)
Input-Output 2 qsns (tough)
Coding Decoding 4-5 qsns (moderate)
Missing series (Numeric) 5-6 qsns were very tough
Arrangements or problem solving qsns like given in Pandey book from pg 628 were tough n were abt 10-12 qsns
Conclusion from stmt 6-7qsns (easy)
Weakening and strengthening arguments 3-4 qsns (moderate)
Data Sufficiency 6-7 qsns (easy)
Cause Effect 6-7 qsns )easy)
Arranging sentences like parajumbles only 1 qsn but was difficult
Quantitative was tough spclly for non math background
Probability 1 qsn easy
Data Interpretation 1 pie chat den 2 tables wid data. Each DI has further 5-6 qsns. To solve these DI percentages, ratio-proportion, averages were key
Den tough qsns were from equations (2-3qsns) den 2 qsns from inequalities
1 qsn each was from Time & Work, Averages, Boats & Streams, Profit and loss
Software was very gud and user friendly though at some institutes equipments like Mouse nt upto date
Overall ppl did well as it was time when ppl had done gud hard wrk for upsc or oder state civil service exams
ALL D BEST TO ALL!!
Hi Folks,
Please someone please provide details and previous year question paper link on Bank of Baroda Manipal Exam, Please help guys.
My exam is on 14th August 2014….
Regards,
Kiran
Had one query…
In the final statement for questions attempted as shown in the table after submission of test:-
Does the column for the questions attempted include the “questions answered & marked for review” or only the attempts “without marked for review”, since mark for review column was showing both “attempted & marked for review” as well as “not attempted and marked for review”.
Thanking in advance for the response.
Same query…
by what time the result will be out? please reply if anyone has idea, so that the preparation for RBI phase 2nd can be started. thanks.
I read somewhere that result of phase 1 was out within 30 days .
ok. thanks!
my exam centre was Chandigarh and it was in evening session.
GA section was the most scoring section and least time consuming. if a person has done recent current affairs and have a command on 11th 12th level economics along with basics of banking, that was enough for today exam. Quant section was the most time consuming and mind boggling, there were ten questions of DI, 5 from data sufficiency and rest statement questions.
Reasoning was lengthy, actually seating arrangements and input output very lengthy and mind twisting. it required intense concentration and understanding. data sufficiency, coded inequalities and syllogism was the easier part and less time consuming, but you have to search them out of 60 question which is itself a task.
found english section of average difficulty. comprehension was easily understandable if a person is a regular reader of newspaper. i found Cloze test little confusing.
total attempted 128 questions.
lets see what happens…
but i can say one thing only the sincere efforts, hard work and regular practice along with GOD’s blessings can get you through the exam ..
all the best to everyone…
First of all a big Big thanks to MRUNAL sir… 2nd slot not posting Questions as many have already posted
almost 60% of GK questions were directly from Mrunal articles… the PIN section was a big big ‘KUNJI’ … Ratan Tata ka question b aaya :P
GK was relatively easy
50 Qs were Very easy
10 Qs were kinda tricky… exact Figures asked in some Questions
10 qs directly frm Hindu/Indian express… either u know it or u are doomed
10 Qs…… hawaa hi nhi lagi…should have been left
Eng — Moderate
Para jumble was tricky
new innovation in form of “Jointers” – Moderate
Passage- Easy
Fill in the Blanks– very easy
Sec-3 Quant– Difficult
questions were easy but Time taking
mostly DI based…. every question took arnd 2-3 Mins…. so selection played a crucial role
there were 5-6 Sitters though which should have been nailed
arnd 10 moderate… which could have been managed with 2 mins on each question
Number series– hawaa hi nhi lagi :(
actually the section in whole was kinda enticing….doable questions but Time taking :(
Sec-4 Reasoning- Moderate difficult
2 puzzles…. extremely time taking….multiple variables even in seating arrangement
DS was easy
argument- weak/strong — easy/moderate
comparison question- easy
coding- easy
attempts
GK- 67, ENG- 27, Quant-15, Reasoning-28… total 135+
I think I am doomed
cutoff should be arnd 120-130 again
RBI Grade B Morning shift
my attempts
GA – 66
English – 29
Quant – 12
Reasoning – 43
accuracy must be around 80%
overall decent paper and a very fresh approach in english section by RBI
Eng- except Sentance rearrangement every thing was manageable
Quant- DI was really time consuming with too much calculation involved.
Reasoning- 2 questions from sitting arrangement took too much time still somehow cracked one of them.
GA- it was easy ..sectional cutt-off would be High.
Basically the exam was too much about time management.
I appeared in morning slot. Because last time i got 112 while cut off was 126 out of 200 so i had a different stratergy.
But to my dismay the quant section was bit lengthy and time consuming and i erred here only.
GS: I attempted 72 questions in Gs and most of the questions have been shared here already, it was more like daily news without too much focus and good questions on economics and banking.
Reasoning: The difficulty level was good but if one could search whole paper he could easily attempt 30-40 questions. i attempted 34 questions
English: The difficulty level was average, the sentence arrangement question was difficult with good possibility of error. however i attempted all 30 questions.
Quant: toughest of all atleast for those who were not in practice and lack calculation skills. 5 questions on quatratic equation, 1 ques on boat and river, 6 question on missing number in series, 10 questions of DI which were of SBI level i.e. lengthy and calculation based. I could not attempt many in this section due to time mismanagement and ended up doing only 15 out of 30.
my total attempts are 152 but chances of missing quant section cut off are high, otherwise i can clear easily. The cut off for general category are unlikely to fall below 125. All the best
Dear Mrunal,
This was my last attempt, paper was time consuming. Your website is one of the best thongs to happen to students recently.
GA- 58
English-27
Reasoning- 35
Quant – 11
Just keeping fingers crossed.
my attempt in G.A . 65 , sure on 62 , English , 29 ,sure on 25 , L.R. 30 ,sure on round 24/5 , Q.A attempt 8 ,sure none . due to lack of time and lack of proper strategy . No chances as i did wrost in Q.A . I took exam just as practice for CSAT , which is my main aim and my ppr 2 seems to be okey now . Had I would have bee take this exam a bit more seriously , I could have manged Q.A a bit better . Hard luck .
Hi Guys,
My exam was in morning session and I attempted in GA 51, QA 20, ENG 19, REASONing 19 (out of race) … as many maharathi has attempted too much in reasoning section and so cut off will be high.
Any possibility that I can clear the reasoning cut off????
Hi everyone,
there was a new type of ques in eng section, where a para was given followed by 3 sentences and we had to find which sentences could be combined without changing the meaning. I didnot get the ques and had to leave all the 5 ques based on this pattern. Please can someone explain me what was actually asked in those ques and how to attempt such ques.
GA was medium
English was also medium
Q.A. time taking if some one attempt only 10-15 with in 30 minute is good
Reasoning was hard also time taking
on my opinion if some one want to crack the RBI’B’ so they can solve maximum in GA ,20-25 in reasoning , 10-12 in Math, 10-12 in English.(but it may be 100%correct)
they will call for main exam
what u say mrunal sir?
other wise we need extra effort to crack RBI’B’ exam
any chance rbi result may come before aug 15??
no chance, it will take 3 to 4 weeks to declare results.
sbhi po results around the corner…i suppose.
GA was easy & questions were asked about very recent things like City of FIFA world cup final
Quant was very hard & reasoning was average,
I have given in 2nd shift
First of all, with extreme reverence, thanks to you Sir!
All the questions from static sections could not escape from your notes. Dynamic section was as usual focused to policies of the current government….paper was OK in all aspect.
I never followed the planned study pattern earlier, this change became possible only because of your study plan and previous year question paper analysis approach.
quantitative aptitude section was almost same as SBI PO (Obviously a comparison of DI questions e.g. common pattern in framing questions of pie chart and table).
In reasoning section most of the questions were from the seating arrangement, syllogism, statement and conclusion, inequality, Puzzle section was smart.
practice from M. K. Pandey is more than sufficient.
English section was not that hard. The HINDU or Indian express reading works in comprehension.
Once again Thank you Sir!
Sectional cutof wil be????????
hello all ,my exm ws yesterday afternoon session ,i attempted 162 total ,ga – 67 out of this 10-12 might be wrong ,eng -23 out of this 8-9 might be wrong ,quant – 21 ,7,8 might b wrong n in reasoning -50 out of this hardly 10-11 r wrong so out of total attempts total wrong could be around 38 , so i can get around 115 marks but according to me i can clear pre of this exam but can’t say anything until result is out
The exam was no where near expectations, i took in the morning slot. General awareness was far easy but quant, reasoning were more tough when compared to mock papers/previous question papers.
I personally read all economy articles from your blog only and im very greatful for all knowledge you are disseminating as I can say all my economy related questions i could attempt only by reading your blog.
General awareness: few qstns were direct and easy like but few tested analytical skills like to increase liquidity in market rbi shud?, SLR defns with one or more correct, (80qstns)
English: paraphrasing was tough & even sentence corrections would take much time(30)
Quant: completely time managment, time was very less and qstns very lengthy(30)
Reasoning: totally tough compared to mock papers, forming patterns with words n digits, critical reasoning, all the qtns were lengthy, time taking and above average levels (60qstns)
mrunal bhai
most of our frnds have very accurately shared the questions in the paper from all sections
Overview:
1.GK was very factual and your PIN and economy articles were very useful. Person preparing for CSE should score well in this one.
2.English was average but one should not try to attempt all 30 questions. Close test + antonyms+synonyms+paragraph arrangement = 18-20 questions
3.Quant was difficult not bcoz of the difficulty of questions but bcoz of lengthy calculations especially in DI(8-10 qns). Data sufficiency(5 qns) and quadratic equation (2-3 qns) was ok but series (5 qns) and other traditional questions were difficult.I could attempt only 10-12 as I solved this in the last 25 mins.If one wants to score well in this section he should attempt it first.
4.Reasoning was moderate but again time consuming.Selecting the right questions was important as the puzzle sets (10-12 qns) involving 8 people/entities were very difficult to crack and could suck a good amount of time without reaching to the answers. Lot of argument/course of action/assumption etc type questions (15 qns) from MK Pandey were tricky but those who had solved good amount of questions from the book would have done well. Rest of the section was standard.
Cut off was 126 for general category last time..it might be around that this time also (+/- 5 marks)
Hello sir, please post.detailed analysis of rbi exam. what may be d cut-offs dis year.
please suggest best speed test to go for ibps exams. i could do only 120 ques wid all accuracy…m nt gud @ maths attempted only 13. it was damn disappointing. please suggest something as i hv few more exams in coming 2 months.
Thank you
English wasnt tough, but if compared to SBI PO and CSAT, it was quite difficult, reasoning was average those with heavy practice would have relished solving those problems, maths was a bit tough, general awareness was above average sprinkled with some below average questions like capital of countries, currency of syria and C in SAARC.
can any body tell me..if i answered 5 question with SAVE and NEXT and 5 question answered and mark for review then in summary in the last how many will be there in answered column,5 or 8??
See in mark and review if you have choosed any option and then click on mark and review then this will be evaluated.
can any body tell me Exact Exam Starting Time in Morning 9.30 or 10.00
I attended evening shift from Bangalore….Questions in GA were easy…if you read current affairs from february (5 months), it will be sufficient to answer at least 50-60 questions, read carefully about RBI operations/policies in these 5 months, definitely 10 questions can be easily answered…no need to read history, geography stuffs in depth…
English section was bit easy….one passage worth of 5 questions, 10 fill in the blanks, 5 arranging sentences, 5 combination of 3 sentences, equal to one sentence, synonyms, antonyms
i consumed lot of time in reasoning, able to attempt 44 questions (some 10 must be wrong)…they found new type of blood relations questions worth of 7 marks, sitting arrangement worth of some 15 questions, all jeeps are buses kind of 5 questions, inference-passage kind of 5 questions, reason-assertion kind of 7 questions…
Aptitude…one boat/stream, one time/work, one trade/profit, 10 pie chart questions, 7 data sufficiency questions, one ration/proportion, 2 permutation/combination, 2 probability…
overall attempted—-GA-60, English-25, Reasoning-44, Aptitude-19 = 148 questions
