United Insurance Administrative Officer exam is to be held on 28th or 29th December 2014. They had decided to conduct direct “Mains” exam. I hereby request the players to share their online exam experience / trend analysis, for the benefit of future aspirants.
General Awareness (40: generalist | specialist)
- Financial sector questions: number, nature, difficultly level? Concepts asked or trivial GK-dates-names-numbers asked?
- What was the span of current affairs (3 months, 6 months, 8 months, 1 year?)
- Did they ask anything from economic survey / budget 2014?
- How much was current affairs vs static theory portion?
- How much focus on [PIN] persons in news, books, authors, awards etc.? Example questions?
- Overall difficulty level and how many questions did you attempt in this section correctly?
Reasoning (50 Generalist | 40 Specialist)
- Variety of questions- sitting arrangement/ syllogism / input-out etc?
- Did they ask non-verbal reasoning? (Image based questions) if yes what variety? (Paper folding / mirror images / dice color etc.)
- Overall Difficulty level and how many questions did you attempt in this section correctly?
Quantitative Aptitude (50 Questions)
- Variety of questions- did they ask interest rate, profit-loss, time work etc. or was it entirely based on Data interpretation sets?
- How lengthy was the data interpretation (DI) set?
- Did they ask permutation combination probability and Venn diagrams?
- Overall Difficulty level and how many questions did you attempt in this section correctly?
English (40 questions for both Gen & Spec.)
- How many Qs from comprehension? Their length and difficultly level compared to SBI PO / CAT / CSAT?
- Did they ask separate questions on vocabulary, phrases, synonym-antonym etc? (or was it part of the comprehension passage e.g. what is the meaning of underlined word in passage)?
- Did they ask sentence arrangement sets like CDS and CAT exam?
- Did they ask sentence correction, if yes how difficult?
- How many grammar questions (active-passive, direct-indirect, do as directed.)
- Overall, Difficulty level and how many questions did you attempt in this section correctly?
Computer (20 for Generalist | unknown for Specialist)
- What were the major areas? (E.g. network-internet, security, office, hardware, OS etc.)
- Overall difficulty level and how many questions did you attempt in this section correctly?
- For specialist officers: syllabus said, computer will be asked within Quantitative aptitude portion, so how many computer MCQs were asked?
Technical knowledge (40 Qs for Specialists only)
- Name of your field: Legal / Automobile / Finance.
- Nature and difficulty level of questions.
- Which books / material / web-resources did you utilize for preparing this?
- How many questions did you attempt correctly? How easy / difficult was it compared to other bank specialist officer exams you’ve appeared in?
Descriptive paper
- Essay writing: What topics given? how many marks? Which one did you write? What points did you include in it?
- Letter writing: what topic and how many marks?
- Précis was worth how many marks?
+ Any other overall wisdom / advice to future aspirants?
Job bond system applies in United India AO
- In case any candidate is still unaware: United India insurance AO job requires you to sign a bond for four years, otherwise damages equivalent to 1 year’s salary, will have to be paid.
- + If you resign within probation period, you’ll have to pay additional 25,000 rupees as damages.

Bro here is a tip. Whenever you are given such questions draw corresponding polygon,for eg,if 6 people then draw a hexagon-
1-Read entire given data and place the “letters” on the sides as per the data.
2-Now,there will be a point when there will be two possibilities in such questions,like,A sits to the right of B. Now if you do not know the direction A is facing then immediately draw another hexagon adjacent to it or if you can,then,on the same hexagon,depict this alternative arrangement.
3-You have to think a lot during this process,assign the respective properties like,food preference,colour,etc so my advice,do one question atleast three times,so that you get the crux.
4-Practice the problems from RS Aggarwal’s book,they are similar to this one but not exactly same,but that is okay because you have to develop faster thinking.

Fr definite information se jitne b bhare jaa sakte ho utne bhr lo… 2 to definitly bhare hi jaayenge.. Fr kisi b ek ko apne intuition k hisaab se approximation lga lo.. Fr uske according baaki bharo..jo def lgte h unpe tick lga lo.. Jo table ki taraf face krke baithe h unke liye liye andar ki taraf arrow nd bahar waalo k liye bahar ki taraf… Thodi practice se approximations sahi hi baith jaate h.. Interview experience UIIC AO 12.02.15 ( Generalist ) @ New Delhi : ( I have done BE in Instrumentation )
Reached venue @2pm…10 min walk from Rajiv Chowk metro station..I was happy to see candidates waiting there already..
1. DOCUMENTATION : 2 copies of Interview Data sheet is required. Recent character certificate is mandatory : orgininal 2 copies.
I found the persons doing document verification cooperative. Even if candidates missed some certificates they accepted undertakings.
Once your documentation part is over you have to sit with an assistant who sends you in. He was the most satisfied person I have ever met. I won’t narrate our interesting discussion ( those of you who are attending @ Delhi will definitely meet him :) )
2. Questions were from academic background, insurance ,regional awareness and previous employment. This was same with most of the candidates I talked to .They were also asking about world cup cricket.
Transcript :::: My Interview ( 4 sirs : 2 in late 50s and 2 in late 40s: 1 of them was probably from Karnataka , 1 from Bihar ; I could identify them with their accents as I have stayed at these places…rest two am not sure )
P1 : Since I have done my engineering in an uncommon branch ( Instrumentation ) he asked me what subjects did I study.. I said a few names and he said he hadn’t heard about them and asked me what should he ask me. I said he could ask me about insurance. He asked me about 7 principles of insurance, Turnover of UIIC, profit , history of insurance. Then he asked about Bihar political crisis, and many questions about my hometown ( he seemed to know alot about that place). He signalled p2 to ask
P2… even if we select u, don’t you think you will be frustrated in insurance as your last earlier salary is more than what we are offering you plus the work here is very different.. don’t you think you should stick to your sector.. ( I interpreted it simply as why insurance is better than your engineering job and politely explained him) He later asked me about my father’s job and the naxalism situation in jharkhand. Signaled to another person
P3. What is metallurgy ( I gave a few examples but didn’t define it) he asked for definition and I again gave another example ….he started laughing and rest of the interviewers also joined him… They told me to define it. .. ( 3 idiots movie k yaad aa gayi) Then I said Mettalugy is a branch of science where we study about extraction and production of metals from ores and other elements… he said ok…
P4. why have u written in your posting preference as Karnataka, Kerala and Maharastra? I said bcoz I like those places as I have stayed there during engineering. Also in advt it was mentioned that most of the vacancies are in south and west . He also asked if I have a gf waiting over there in some IT company…( I was like how is this relevant)…I simply smiled (fake one) and said it’s nothing like that…he told me to feel free… I maintained my stand. .. He also asked me about my previous job
P3. (Jumped in suddenly) what attracts me in insurance ?

Afterwards I went and collected my travel reimbursement from the documentation room.
3. Conclusion : they were cool and were trying to have a good time over there. They didn’t ask me any tough Question.
4. Advice : don’t go with warm clothes inside the room , you don’t want to sweat ,while being interviewed .

I have New India assurance AO interview on 23rd feb. I am a electrical engineer, we can apply for AO post both as a engineer-60 posts and as a generalist(Any Graduate)-349 posts. I applied as a generalist and have interview for the same. In the interview if they ask me “you are a electrical engineer, why did you apply as a Generalist and not as a engineer”. How should i answer?
One more question is why do you want to get into insurance sector, why not banking or other sectors?
