CAPF-2015 GS paper: Observations on PIN/Defense

  • In UPSC Central Armed Police forces examination (CAPF)- Total 19 out 125 MCQs came from PIN (persons in news) and Defense. And majority of them on defense only.
  • One question each from Books, Days and Sports asked. Otherwise Nearly 13% of the paper, came only from Defense MCQs.
  • It seems slowly and steadly in both CSAT and CAPF, UPSC is be going for subject specialization to help the non-IAS aspirants
  • e.g. in CSAT-2014, large chunk of MCQs from environment, agriculture to ensure “only IFS (Forest)” aspirants not hurt by “both IAS-IFS but first preference to IAS” type candidates.
  • Same way, here, large no. of Defense MCQs to ensure “only CAPF/CDS” type aspirants have good chance against “my 1st preference is IAS, giving CAPF for namesake” type candidates.
  • Defense portion was centered on army regiments, paramilitary forces, types of helicopters, missiles, officer ranks, aircraft etc.
  • Within 16 Defense MCQs, Barring 3-4 questions, most of could be solved from Lucent General Knowledge (GK) book and My Defense Current compilations. Design your next years’ strategy accordingly.
