UPSC-2016 Notification released
- UPSC has released notification for civil services 2016 and forest services 2016 exam.
- 1079 vacancies. [100 less than last year, although more vacancies for PH this time- 34.)
- Last date to apply is 27th May 2016, midnight
- Online application link is upsconline.nic.in
- Apply at earlier because exam centers are first apply first allot basis.
- Prelim exam to be held on 7th August 2016. (How many days left- just watch the left hand corner green box of our website).

- Minimum age is 21 years.
- Age is counted on 1st August of 2015.
- Candidate already in IAS or Indian foreign service (IFS)- not eligible to appear.

What doesnāt count as an attempt?
- Ans. If you applied in previous exam, but remain absent in BOTH prelim papers, then your attempt is not counted.
- If you fail in prelims, attempt is counted.

Can last semester student apply?
- Minimum education standard is graduation.
- Candidates from last semester can apply, provided that they can show proof passing examination in October/November 2015. Because at that time, theyāll be required to fill up a new form for Mains exam (known as DAF form i.e. detailed application form).
- MBBS candidate must finish internship before interview phase.

When will I get the hallticket/admit-card for prelims?
- Hall ticket will be available online, usually 3 weeks before prelim exam. They donāt send it through post anymore. Youāve to download and take printout.

Multiple applications by same candidate?
- Every time you apply, you get new registration ID (RID). you must preserve RID because youāll have to quote it again in the Mains application form i.e. DAF form.
- If you applied multiple times (because of computer glitch, fee problem or xyz reason) then when downloading hallticket, you should use higher RID. Because higher RID corresponds to your latest application.
OBC alert
To claim OBC reservation benefit in UPSC, you need TWO certificates:
- OBC caste certificate
- Non-creamy layer certificate.
- Non creamy layer status depends on your parentsā income and property.
- It doesnāt depend on your income/property
- It doesnāt depend on your husband/wifeās income/property.
- If your mom/dad is government employee, then INCOME criteria doesnāt apply. (e.g. if dad is class3 employee, then it doesnāt matter whether he gets 6 lakhs or 7 lakhs. Youāre still non-cream layer.)

The creamy layer aspect is determined by the income status of one’s parents and not by the individual’s personal income.

Hello Everyone,
There are two winter seasons in a UPSC candidateās life. One caused by earthās tilt and another caused by UPSCās notification. The former lullabies you to sleep and the later jolts you out of the slumber.
Many of you might have started getting apprehensive about the level of preparation and the thought of skipping this attempt might have crossed several hundreds of minds already. Skip the attempt if you feel you shall have any different feeling in 2017. But depend on it, if you skip this attempt and feel that you shall be better prepared and confident next year then you must be living in some utopian world.
CSE is a cycle and this apprehension is a part of it. You cannot circumvent it. And you shall have to work with it and clear the exam.
Counting from tomorrow till 07.08.2016, you have 101 days with you. And for clearing prelims, it is more than enough. Yes, it is more than enough. But only if you use them judiciously. So, what can you do to make the best out of coming days? Here is the list:
1. Sit down, read the syllabus, pick the standard books prescribed and stick to them over the coming days.
2. Make a time table and work according to it.
3. Donāt read haphazardly and kangaroo-jump from one subject to another and from one topic to another. Finish what you have started before moving to the next.
4. While you study keep referring to the previous year questions to get an inkling about the areas that engender more questions.
5. When your mind is tired and the overbearing fear of failure clouds you, take a small break. Donāt force yourself into studying when you just cannot. Relaxing and rejuvenating is as important as studying itself.
6. Do not forget to read newspaper. Do not get into the fruitless debate whether you should read newspaper till June or July. You must read at least the headlines even on 07.08.2016.
7. Get in good discussions with friends and stay clear of the ones who come uninvited for āek cup chaiā. This āek cup chaiā sometimes takes hours.
8. Reading maps is a good way of killing boredom or so I feel.
9. Try the MCQs that are posted here or from any other source you refer to.
Remember you are vying for the Ambassador to which every Benz salutes. Thodi mushkil to hogi hi! Lastly, the only advice to the late runners is that, Do another Manjhi and Make the bridges where there exist none!

You can choose either hindi or english as the medium of your personality test. No other language is allowed by UPSC to be chosen as medium of interview by the candidates.
I have not achived minimum age qualification of 21 years can i fill Prelim application form with wrong DOB just to see I’ll be selected or not . I’m not giving it in casual manner I’ll be appearing next Year

Unfortunately in ‘Part-2’ ; I pressed the ‘Submission Button’.
Every thing is OK (sign , photo , center ..) ; Other than ‘Applied in Written to Head of Department , if already in government service’.
Is there any ‘Tick’ button for this coloum (Applied in Written to Head of Department) ??? I am already in Service.
As after submission ; I am not able to see that.
Although every other was correct.

Hey, could someone clear my doubts in getting a OBC and non creamy layer certificates. I fail to understand why you need two different certificates, when you have a non creamy layer certificate which you obviously got it because you belong to OBC. I am confused with these gazettes and resolutions. looks like there is difference in the forms for different exams. Guys at the local office are like they are issuing these certificates for the first time. can someone guide me through the process.

Technically you can opt to write your answers in any of the languages included in the eighth schedule of the constitution or English. so practically in your case you could use Gujarati or Hindi or English. Its not mandatory to pick Gujarati to write your scripts. However the question papers will be set only in Hindi and English barring optional literature papers.

Question paper of essay and general studies will be printed both in hindi as well as in english. You can write your answers in any of the scheduled languages as specified by you in your detailed application form but the questions will only be made available in english and hindi.
The compulsory language paper of english will obviously be in english only and the other compulsory language paper will be in that language only.
The language of your optional paper (in your case it is gujarati literature) will be gujarati only.

sir, how many total attempts can be given by an obc candidiate, are there any condition? its very confusing as everyone says that the extra attempts that have been added, are not counted in total and there is some special requirements, for ex. such as those whose paper was cancelled etc. it would be of great help if some clarity is provided on this issue.
