UPSC-2016 Notification released
- UPSC has released notification for civil services 2016 and forest services 2016 exam.
- 1079 vacancies. [100 less than last year, although more vacancies for PH this time- 34.)
- Last date to apply is 27th May 2016, midnight
- Online application link is upsconline.nic.in
- Apply at earlier because exam centers are first apply first allot basis.
- Prelim exam to be held on 7th August 2016. (How many days left- just watch the left hand corner green box of our website).

No change in Age-Attempt limit
- Minimum age is 21 years.
- Age is counted on 1st August of 2015.
- Candidate already in IAS or Indian foreign service (IFS)- not eligible to appear.

Above relaxation are cumulative e.g. OBC candidate from J&K = 32 + 3(OBC) + 5 (J&K) = 40 years up age limit.
What doesn’t count as an attempt?
- Ans. If you applied in previous exam, but remain absent in BOTH prelim papers, then your attempt is not counted.
- If you fail in prelims, attempt is counted.

Can last semester student apply?
- Minimum education standard is graduation.
- Candidates from last semester can apply, provided that they can show proof passing examination in October/November 2015. Because at that time, they’ll be required to fill up a new form for Mains exam (known as DAF form i.e. detailed application form).
- MBBS candidate must finish internship before interview phase.

When will I get the hallticket/admit-card for prelims?
- Hall ticket will be available online, usually 3 weeks before prelim exam. They don’t send it through post anymore. You’ve to download and take printout.

Multiple applications by same candidate?
- Every time you apply, you get new registration ID (RID). you must preserve RID because you’ll have to quote it again in the Mains application form i.e. DAF form.
- If you applied multiple times (because of computer glitch, fee problem or xyz reason) then when downloading hallticket, you should use higher RID. Because higher RID corresponds to your latest application.
OBC alert
To claim OBC reservation benefit in UPSC, you need TWO certificates:
- OBC caste certificate
- Non-creamy layer certificate.
- Non creamy layer status depends on your parents’ income and property.
- It doesn’t depend on your income/property
- It doesn’t depend on your husband/wife’s income/property.
- If your mom/dad is government employee, then INCOME criteria doesn’t apply. (e.g. if dad is class3 employee, then it doesn’t matter whether he gets 6 lakhs or 7 lakhs. You’re still non-cream layer.)

Mohit.. pg.13 of notification upsc cse notification says that a govt employee reqd. to submit an undertaking with upsc that I have informed my employer about applying upsc cse… I want to know what kind of undertaking they are asking for? Format of undertaking? When n where to submit?
Dear Manoj
That undertaking needs to be submitted at the time of filling the detailed application form (DAF) for the Civil Service (MAIN) Examination. The undertaking forms the part of the DAF and while submitting the hard copy of the DAF the candidate just has to put their signature on that page which declares that “the candidate has informed his employer in writing that he is appearing fro the civil service exam”.
Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Me to in Govt Job. What the notification expects of you is to shoot an Email to your admin/HR deptt stating that you wish to apply for CSE’16, as per the official notification. First inform your HR deptt. Next day, fill the application online.
To keep your documents complete, take a “received” printout of the Email as well.
In case of any problem, your office directly needs to communicate with UPSC regarding your candidature, and not to you.

My DOB is 09-11-1985, (OBC non creamy layer) and till 2015 i had made 6 attempts since 2010 which makes 2016 as my 7th attempt. But while filling the form i marked “CLAIMING AGE RELAXATION AS : NO”. So my question is to avail my 7th attempt should i have mentioned YES for age relaxation or not. Because now my current age is 30 and have exhausted all my 6 attempts. So to avail 7th attempt should i go for claiming age relaxation as Yes or what ? Please i need clarification on this one.
There is no particular format for undertaking from upsc notification. So am going to inform my employer with a simple application for applying this exam….

my research–there seems to be no format, just write a letter and annex a copy of intimation that you have given to the employer…UPSC is very candidate friendly…problem arises only in the unlikely event when employer writes to upsc withholding permission…so fill the form, send the undertaking to UPSC by speed post, and keep a copy of everything with you.

Yes u can select english language for GS.. Your optional paper has nothing to do with your language of GS papers
No. ones you claim your D.O.B. you can’t change your DOB in future. so don’t experiment on UPSC.

Sir I want to apply only for IFS and not for civil service exam but the exam for prelims is same for both of them . So my attempt will also be counted for civil services or not .

Other than Gujarati literature its up to you to choose language. In Gujarati literature language is Gujarati.
