- On 7th August 2016, UPSC had conducted preliminary exam for civil services aka CSAT.
- 16th September 2016, they’ve declared result= within 40 days. Seems a new record for UPSC!
- Total ~15,500 candidates qualified for Mains-2016 against 1,079 final vacancies. (15,445 to be precise.)
- To check your result:

- Alternate Filserver Link (if UPSC website unresponsive, I’ve uploaded same files here)
- Those who cleared prelims, need to fillup a new form online before mains. It’s called “Detailed Application form” (DAF).
- DAF will be available from 7th October to 20th October 6PM.
- Civil Service Mains to start from 3rd December 2016.
- Those who qualified – congratulations.
- Those who did not qualify- this is not the end of the world: Look at the right hand green box for the upcoming exams and for next year prelims, rectify for the lacunas in your strategy.
Cutoff marks not declared, YET
Unlike RAS prelims, UPSC has not revealed cutoffs marks of Prelim-2016 immediately after declaration of result.
Anyways, here are the cut-off marks in last prelims 2015:

15,500 selected for 1079 posts, last year 15008 selected for 1179 posts, am I missing the logic?
may be for the last cut off digit (rounded to nearest one- third) itself they had 500 odd guys and they didnt want to leave them out.

the no of candidates selected for mains is always 12-13 times the vacancies..the final vacancies filled up by DoPT is always higher than those declared in the notification as new vacancies from various departments gets finalised later..so the actual vacancies this year should be around 1200..that is the reason the have selected more candidates

General category…. expecting 90 … understood the complexity of exam… got disheartened during preparation…. no proper commitment… UPSC wont be mercy at me if i cant get above 130 …sp this time changing my gear… need to make necessary changes in my strategy … MRUNAL sir thank you for your contribution..
